You may have heard the fuss about it as HR 1955. Well, it passed the house, and now YOU may be considered a terrorist the next time you THINK about using force to protect your civil liberties.
Do you care about 2nd amendment gun rights? Do you care about a political issue or religion or social change? Do you care about the Bill of Rights?
Here is language directly from S 1959:
"The term `violent radicalization' means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change."
Take out the word "violence" and you're looking at a law that threatens belief systems, ideology, politics, religion, and social change.
This bill is an offensive threat to our civil liberties.

Right now about this bill. I did a few weeks ago, as soon as I heard about it.
I'm pretty sure that if the tens of thousands of people that visit this site every day called ASAP, we could have a pretty good effect against the "homegrown terrorism" bill.
As others have pointed out, all it takes is someone like Glenn Beck, and a whole group of people are labeled extremists and radicals. Why would these committees (on national, state, and local levels) be any different?

Even if most of America is still asleep, they won't be for long. All it will take is a financial collapse,which we all know is inevitable, and all those sheeple and naysayers and neocons will be screaming " bloody murder " on the whitehouse lawn.

I have been posting this bill on Dailypaul since HR1955 was passed in the House on October 23. This link will show you the progress of the bill in the Senate. Right now the bill is being discussed in the Committee for Homeland Security...S1959 has to be approved by committee in order to be put on the Senate floor for a vote. It may or may not make it out of committee but this site will allow you to see if it does.
Also, you can go to the link at the bottom that shows HR1955 which is the same bill that passed in the House, click on it and you will see another link that will show if your Representative voted for it. My Representative voted yes for it and I blasted him and told him that he may as well have burned the Constitution. This bill is extremely serious for our freedoms so keep the link in your favorites and watch it and if it goes to the Senate floor for discussion and a vote, CALL YOUR SENATORS! I will update Dailypaul if I hear more information.

On the surface, this Bill is only about putting together a commission to study how to prevent homegrown terrorism. But the implications are just atrocious. How can the government know what a citizen is thinking and planning unless they spy on him and investigate him? When you put this together with the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act, I see citizens being detained (or threatened with detainment) for being activists for such issues as gun rights, property rights, free speech, etc. The really basic issues.
If this Bill gets out of committee for a vote on the floor, it's time for us to go ape-shit.
We need to learn about it now, and start educating our Senators on our impressions of it.

This link will show you the AYEs and NAYs for HR 1955, which passed the House on Oct 23. It has not been voted on yet in the Senate.
As Mike pointed out, this bill is to establish a commission of 12 people to investigate the issue. It is NOT a bill of action. However, I think it is worth our attention now because the implications are so heinous.
I didn't wake up to just how threatening the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act are until about 2 months ago. I'm sure I'm not alone in that respect. Now that I see the pattern emerging, I want to push back against it. The individual liberty expressed in our Bill of Rights is what makes this nation great; you've heard this many times before, "freedom is not free." Our forefathers fought and died for our freedoms; the least we can do is continue the fight in our own way, now.
If anyone knows the following patriots, please pass on to them our appreciation for voting against HR 1955 before it turned into S 1959:

We must do our duty as American citizens and at least burn up the phone lines next week ,this bill is just the first step to banning free speech they will be going after any website that they deem potentially dangerous or is critical of the federal government ,from anti war sites to patriot websites and 9/11 truth . Even if you don't agree with what someone says they should sure as hell have the the right to say it . Our goverment is famous for getting an inch and taking a mile . So please people lets make some noise and call our senators because if we let them take this first step they will walk all over what few rights we have left .

Be sure to read It!
Make sure you read the bill before you get too excited, it provides for a committe to study the supposed problem, and present options-NOT enacting options. I think its a terrible step toward totalitarianism, but be sure that you don't get carried away-its a study, not an action-granted, it's a frivolous waste of our money, and has truly evil potential, but to run around telling people that the sky is falling down will only make you look like a fool, and be ultimately counterproductive. I sent the text out in an e-mail to friends suggesting what wonderful things this "blue ribbon" committee might come up with, and how they might be used.

I hear what your saying but I have absolutely no confidence in these people . Do you remember the bill that Ron Paul wrote requesting that they be able to read the bill before they voted on it ,I mean how far down this rabbit hole are we when the congress and senate aren't allowed to read a bill before they vote on it ? I mean if they were actually able to read somehting like the "patriot" act some of them might not have voted on it but these people voted for a bill they didn't even read ........oh god I am losing it so I will just quit typing for now .

You're right. So far, I've only read the first page. I've read enough to learn that I don't want this going any further. When you combine the Patriot Act, which justifies spying on us, with the Military Commissions Act, which justifies imprisoning us without due process, and then you add this bill, a person can predict the sky falling down on individual liberty.
I don't mind looking like a fool.
1) They spy on you.
2) They learn that you say something passionate about using your guns to protect yourself from tyranny.
3) They imprison, torture, and dispose of you.
Really, I don't mind looking like a fool. I think there is a historical precedent for The State doing horrible things against individual liberty.

Every time I write one of my senators I get some cookie cutter response back from them and usually it doesn't even cover the topic I was complaining about but this bill could be very dangerous ,they can deem any websute or anyone connected to it to be a potential terrorist and with the absence of habeus corpus this could get really bad for some of us .

If you've emailed your representative and your two senators, then you've done your job.
Now, if we can persuade some of our compatriots to do the same, maybe the "leaders" will follow.
I'm encouraged to know that one of my senators, John Barrasso of Wyoming, has opposed the Real ID act. If he can do that, there's hope that he may help to oppose S 1959.
