Ron Paul Money Bombs: Not What They Used To Be
by Walt Thiessen
Tuesday, July 8, 2008
Oh how the mighty have fallen! They've been trying to do a good thing, to help Ron Paul-like candidates for Congress raise money for their campaigns, but their latest money bomb effort has fallen flat.
I'm speaking of Travis Lyman, Rick Williams, and the folks over at Break The Matrix. They've been running a money bomb to support folks who are trying to become the next Ron Paul in Congress. Lyman, you may recall, is the man who created the original money bomb websites that helped Ron Paul raise over $30 million for his campaign, including a $6 million money bomb on December 16, 2007. BTM ran a 4th of July money bomb to support more than 25 candidates for Congress whom BTM claims are Ron Paul-like in their stances on the issues.
Instead of raising millions, the final tally board shows that they raised roughly $17,000 combined for 25 or so candidates. Despite the fact that they have more than 60,000 names and email addresses accumulated during the RP money bombs to which they marketed their fundraising attempt, the response rate this time around was dismal.

TAPPED OUT!
How many satillite groups have their hands out to Ron Paul supporters? It has become ridiculous. I will only donate directly to a candidates campaign site OR to the Campaign for Liberty web site. NO MORE MIDDLEMEN! It seems people are trying to cash in on the grassroots efforts. I will not do it. No way. RON PAUL 2008 Jazzloversinc
no shit dude.
like we're made of money.
Once the 3rd party...
I think that, once he ruled out a 3rd party nomination...that's what did it. Many supporters wanted him so bad as a candidate, we would've financed him till the end. Once that door was shut, many of us saw it as a lost opportunity. He could've stayed till the end of the Republican nomination then made a run for it. If he had to give up his seat in Congress...oh well, has put his years in spreading his message.
We need a Ron Paul President, true man of integrity, vetoing any unconstitutional legislation, get us out of Iraq and not fight any undeclared war and dramatically reduce the size of our government(IRS, income taxes, Federal reserve, etc.) and put an immediate dent in these issues. I'm not saying that he could accomplish every thing as President, but these issues would be discussed and debated.
Like others have said it was the Man and then the message. You can have many preachers, preaching the same message, but not many of them do what the preach. I think that why there is also lots of skepticism about Bob Barr.
The economy is what it is, people don't know these Ron Paul candidates, or what they stand or stood for in the past. So to answer you it's a combination of all the above.
I think that, once he ruled

I couldn't disagree more.
Ron Paul is a Leader and a well know man of Character!
I have know of Dr. Paul for years. He has a voting record that matches his promises. I knew what I was getting when I voted for him and sent him money.
This money bomb should have been 25 separate money bombs targeted to the people in those candidate's districts. I have never heard of any of these candidates and I cannot vote for even one of them. Frankly, I feel it is almost immoral to send money to a candidate you can't vote for ( and yes, I broke my own rule by sending money to Dr. Pauls Congressional campaign).
As for me, I am taking a long hard look at Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson . With 750 vetos while in office, I am interested. Frankly, that is what I expected of Reagan when I voted for him in 1980. By 1982, I was a libertarian.

Money Bombs
As I said a long time ago, it was the "Man", and then the "Message". We loved Ron Paul. We knew he was the only one telling the truth. So many would have done anything for him, even to the point of taking a bullet for him if necessary. Many hearts were broken when he dropped out. Most of the people that gave to Dr. Paul's campaign were the little people who could least afford it. And they gave and gave and gave again, because they loved this man so much. Now that he dropped out, please stop being so rediculous, thinking there will be more money bombs. It's over, it's finished!!! Wake up to reality.
"hearts were broken" stupid
"hearts were broken"
stupid sheeple, if your heart was broken, you never really understood the message in the first place, you never really took the red pill.
when he dropped out
again...anyone who puts this type of spin on a courageously run race, then really what the hell. Ron Paul was out there delivering a message that would hopefully change people.
If your one of those who says "he dropped out", you didn't learn a damn thing.
hearts were broken
You pompous ass, you dont have a clue what I said. Apparently your dream wasn't shattered as most of ours were. We could have won this race if Ron Paul had stayed in. Yes he did 'drop out' of the race, regardless of how much spin you try to put on it. The country is going downhill as we speak and we needed Ron Paul NOW, as PRESIDENT. McCain is looking terrible and the RNC knows it. The only one that could have beat Obama or Hillary was Ron Paul. You call me stupid because my heart was broken like thousands of others, when Dr. Paul dropped out of the race? Then "stupid" I am. Better than being an ass who still wants lost cause "Money Bombs" to donate to.
arrogant ass
yea, and calling human beings "sheeple" is going to do anything to help the movement. ever wonder why many people are starting to go against the movement now? it's because people like you throw around the word "sheeple" whenever someone disagrees with you. Arrogant ass!
"..first off he did not quit!!!"
"..first off he did not quit!!!" WHY RON PAUL MADE THE MOST BRILLIANT MOVE IN POLITICAL HISTORY-
http://digg.com/2008_us_e...
For those of you or others you know of who think so, you've been duped like the rest of the MSM.... What he has done is Beyond brilliant!!! Let me show you some points...
--- fund raising.... he can now raise more money (even from prior maxed out donors..they can now donate more money ..I believe its like $5000 per year)
-- money allotment.... now he can at his discretion donate/campaign for or place ads for anyone he believes can join him in congress or the senate...so lets say that his organization helps 3-5 people get elected this November to the congress...(we just multiplied Ron Paul's voice by 5X!!!-- imagine what we can accomplish now!!!)

The Break the Matrix emails i get
are really awful. They need help with their delivery. I really would like to support them but, to be honest, I have no idea what they are about.
I didn't even know about the money bomb.

The "Common Joe" citizens are WIPED OUT
It took EVERYTHING WE had and then some to raise money for Dr. Paul. He knows it. Trevor Lyman knows it, and you know it.
We gave all we could give financially! Most of us are not rich, where we have an endless bucket of money!
PLUS, we are all burnt out and saddened by the fact that Dr. Paul will not be our President.
We are depressed about this country!
We are distraught that now staring in our faces are 2 men who are corrupt to the core, who represent the CFR establishment and "status quo", and we are heartsick that so many people are so naieve and wanting to vote for Obama for such childish reasons, who cannot argue their way out of a closet let alone find distinct reasons to vote for these mindless, numbing, political puppets.
We are sad That's all. Sad.
DON'T ASK US FOR ANY MORE MONEY.
We don't have any more...
Alive and Well
1. It's the economy, stupid! Can't afford to get to work, so how can we afford to fund campaigns? Though, one might rebut that the only way we will ever be able to afford gas tomorrow is if we do fund these campaigns for liberty and sound money today.
2. Money doesn't win a campaign; people win campaigns. We've all heard the stories of candidates being outspent as much as even 7 or 10 to 1 and still winning. All I need is one big list of Ron Paul candidates (maybe to be posted on the CL website?) and I'll be happy to cast my votes for them on election day.
3. The revolution is not dead! An anecdote: My brother is now die-hard for Obama, though he voted for Paul in the primary. Just the other day I sent him an RP video clip, and he responded to me expressing how sad he was that Paul didn't win. "I mean, Obama's a warhawk compared to Ron Paul! What a great country we'd have if he had actually won." What I'm trying to say is that just because we don't have the activism now that we did during the primary doesn't mean that over 1,000,000 people no longer believe in freedom, prosperity, and peace. All primaries wane. Every single RP voter I know, both "mainstream" and "extreme" freedom-lovers, will vote for him again in 2012... or another candidate who is just as similar.
4. Gaining supporters. Primaries are "pick your pony" races, for the most part. To win the ideological battle takes more than a popularity contest; at least, it does for the majority of American voters. Want to plant the seeds for next election and the continuation of the revolution? Go preach freedom and the Constitution to your neighbors, friends, colleagues, family, etc. Remind them today what it means to life free, and maybe in 2 or 4 years they'll understand it enough to vote for it.
Now get to work!
What in the world...
are they doing at BTM? I keep seeing mcBain advertisements when there should be NONE!!! for him or Nobama. I refuse to play the enemy of my enemy is my... Candidate? I don't care how much the gop pays them, it is all blood money.
the reason for the McCain advertisements is Google.
Since Break The Matrix just got started, they have been using Google's AdSense program. This program searches for terms on the web sites that is used on and gives ads related to those terms. If somebody clicks on the ads, the web site makes a little bit of money. Break The Matrix will be replacing this with their own advertising program. The purpose of Break The Matrix is to get Ron Paul's message out to the main stream by having a cable channel. They just launched the channel on Independance Day. Watch the channel at http://www.breakthematrix....
Well I can't speak for everyone but
I would be more willing to donate if:
1. The Ron Paul republican was from my state.
2. The Campaign for Liberty website just asked for us to make a giant pool of money and they would determine how much each candidate needed to win. For example, someone who is very likely to win in one state might need more or less than someone who was unlikely to win in another.
I trust Campaign for Liberty but I don't trust the numerous other "money bomb" websites that come knocking at dailypaul's door for our money.

Too many money bombs for too
Too many money bombs for too many things. Folks are tapped out and the economy is getting worse. We need a more streamlined strategy of how best to use our limited resources, not to be pulled in all these different directions.
I agree
I donate to causes as the funds permit.

Couldn't have anything
to do with a totally obliterated economy where people can't even afford to drive to work anymore, could it?
What do they think we are, the Federal Reserve?
It was very unwise of Ron
It was very unwise of Ron Paul do suspend the campaign.
I still can not understand how he could make such a stupid move and kill off the entire spirit of this movement.
You are a right brained
You are a right brained person.
I can't exchange ideas with right brained people. All I can do is shake my head in agreement with the left brained people.
Ron Paul knows what he's doing. I know what I'm doing. Most people know what they're doing. Everyone's doing the best they can.
In my not so humble opinion, it sounds like you don't know wtf you're talking about.
The campaign should not have
The campaign should not have been suspended until the next campaign...the campaign for liberty was fully in place. We have a gap where supporters or left discouraged about the defeat with no new direction ready to pick them up. CFL is not really up and running except for a few information tidbits.
He had his reasons.
If the spirit of the movement doesn't reside in each one of us, then it is for nought. End of story.
Well said!

those weren't the only money
those weren't the only money bombs.....there were money bombs for all sorts of things.
can we say dilution? that contributed to the problem in part.
I sent cash in till I recognized that my savings had stopped growing. Food, gas and donations had crept up in the first quarter.
I also realized that if I could get 10 people to take the red pill, it was worth more then any amount that I could potentially donate.
Having a bunch of elected officials that have stances that aren't understood or backed by the sheeple doesn't work.
I have to agree with the
I have to agree with the majority of posters, its more a reflection of just how bad most of us are economically than we were just a few short months ago.
As for me, I can't believe how much worse things have gotten, but I am in one of the hardest hit industries -- the restaurant business. No industry has come close to being as hard hit as we have. All one has to do is look at Starbucks and how they are closing 600 stores. Last year if anyone in this business even dared to suggest that would happen a year later no would would have ever believed them. Starbucks was the envy of everyone.
In my case its even worse as my plight also involves a rotten to the core Franchisor, who's story of numerous lawsuits has only started to hit the mainstream. When the full story comes out on this is will blow people's mind with the story of just how rotten a corporation can be. So there I have it... in a business where sales have dropped like a rock, COGS have gone through the roof, minimum wage increase have hurt us, and I have a lawsuit to deal with on top of it.
Donate to a campaign now??? It more likely I'll be looking for donations to pay to keep a roof over my head soon.
Exactly
Did they even consider the BiFlationary stated of the union?

I'm just not donating anymore because I really can't afford it at this time.... Things have become too expensive, and I need to start saving my money for the coming school semester (groceries, supplies, etc.)....
Gee, I don't suppose it could be....
...because these "money bombs" are not specifically FOR Ron Paul (the only one with a proven track record of Constitutional integrity) - could it? Nah.....
http://groups.yahoo.com/g...
exactly!!!! none of these people running have a proven track
record...they all just want to follow in the footsteps of someone who does.(nothing wrong with that...but it is like investing in a new company with no track record....)
ULTIMATELY THIS IS THE REASON...
Unproven track record... ?
... So are we going to wait for someone to have a twenty year track record in Congress before we support them ?...
Personal financial issues aside, none of the reasons posted here cut the mustard.
As centralized as our government has become, we still have three branches of government- including the Congress. Wish as you might, Ron Paul is not going to run for President again anytime soon, if ever again. More importantly, even if he was the President he needs Congressmen who represent liberty as well. To believe otherwise is to fall prey to a cult of personality. Dr. Paul provided leadership and inspiration for many to rise to the call for more personal involvement including seeking out public office. This will be his legacy, starting a mass movement- not being elected to the presidency. Many are now rising to the call. To forego supporting those who are seeking public office, because they are "not Ron Paul" is myopic. Remember, it's about the principles not the personality.
Considering that we are Ron Paul supporters, I have a hard time believing that risk aversion could have that much sway. We don't have any more time for caution, "track record" be damned.
I've sent support to BJ Lawson and Amit Singh, and plan to support a few others as well. I challenge others to do the same.
Besides, how much will your debased currency be good for otherwise ? ;-)
