Richard Viguerie: Conservatives Deeply Depressed Over McCain Campaign
http://conservativehq.com...
Conservatives are so depressed over the state of the McCain campaign -- particularly its failure to include and enthuse the Republican base -- that they are preparing themselves for a monumental GOP defeat in November, Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, said in a speech to FreedomFest.
"You even have some conservatives who are considering voting for Barack Obama, because they fear McCain as president would destroy what's left of the Republican brand and would finish off the conservative movement," said Viguerie. "Their mood is that of the fatally ill patient who says 'Let's get this over with.'"
"John McCain has had the Republican nomination sewn up for five months and has done little to convince conservatives they should come off the sidelines and fight for him," he said.
Viguerie said, "Personnel is policy and if Senator McCain won't surround himself with conservatives during this campaign, when he desperately needs them, why should we think that he will have conservatives making critical decisions in his administration?"
"Senator McCain has never been a conservative, is not one now, and will not govern as one. From McCain-Feingold to cap-and-trade, he is a supporter of one Big Government scheme after another. History shows that, in the Oval Office, where almost all the political pressure comes from supporters of Big Government, he would only get worse."
Viguerie has also called for the resignation of the Republican leadership in Congress.
"After this year's expected blood bath in the November elections, the voters will bring about a massive housecleaning of GOP leaders in favor of principled conservatives," he said.
Freedom Fest, at which Viguerie spoke, is a gathering of prominent advocates for free markets. Other speakers this year include Steve Forbes, George Gilder, Bob Barr, Dinesh D'Souza, Christopher Hitchens, and Congressman Ron Paul.

I still don't understand
They all say "oh McCain's soooo bad" and really he's not much to the left of Bush. Bush is more left wing than Clinton was. And they all still LIKE Bush.
I don't get it.
Maybe they just like Bush because the left hates him. This is a possibility.

Not Over Yet
Since McCain got the nomination, I have always thought he would not be the eventual nominee. I think there is a huge chance that he steps down and some other conservative neo-con will step in. Sorry I think Paul has zero chance.
Maybe a Lindsey Graham, or Huckabee, you never know.
I was talking to a young man
the other day about the election.
He said"I don't think I'm going to
vote for McCain because he is really old and looks kind of sick."
I have a feeling a lot of the young people see him that way.He doesn't exactly excite anyone!
So of course I told this young man all about Ron Paul!
I respect Viguerie...he
I respect Viguerie...he seems to be one of the only members of the GOP establishment who isn't a neocon fruitcake.

McCain = Not electable
He's done absolutely nothing to help himself. All he's done so far is remodel his campaign countless times and make bold statements how good it's going to be. It's far too late for John McCain, people are beyond confused what he's trying to do. I don't think he cares about the common people in America and around the world. He's for war and his brand of justice.

I feel
a miracle is around the corner. I aint counting RP out yet. I am giving the sheeple a little more time to wake up. Either way, something big is going to happen. I would imagine there is nothing like 300 million pissed off people with chains on thier feet. Either way, it will be a sight to see.
Scenario that could defeat McCain
You know, even though I am a Baldwin supporter, I feel Ron still may have a chance.
The odds that there will be a war with Iran, either started by the US or Israel, are increasingly high. I believe such an attack would backfire on the neocons. In the present economy, already near-devastated, a second war of aggression on Iran would send oil prices into the stratosphere. It would be a disaster for both the country and the GOP.
People are going to be voting the price at the pump this Fall. Republicans already know McCain is a puny candidate who is likely to be soundly defeated.
If gasoline shoots to $8 a gallon overnight, I look for GOP leaders to pressure McCain to drop out for "health reasons". That could reopen the September convention.

I too still have some amount of hope that the GOP will awaken
to the growing disaster that McCain represents for that party and for the U.S.
I wouldn't chance a guess at the odds, but it certainly does seem that there's no love loss between McCain and the more traditional conservatives in the GOP. It's like two democrats running for the same office.
Yeah, well, don't come
Yeah, well, don't come whining to US! We gave you a true conservative who would fire the imagination of the people, but you idiots decided McCain was your guy. Now hold your nose and swallow your poison. You got yourself to thank for Obama's landslide win.
