Why are you here? A letter to the DailyPaul members and readers

My fellow DailyPaulers,

Why are you here? Most of us are here because we believe in the message of freedom, liberty, peace, prosperty, and the rule of law. This is what that brings many of us freedom lovers and activists together. Indeed, it should go without saying that this far-reaching and important message would bring together a diverse group of people. Young, old, the politically experienced and inexperienced, and many different ideologies and philosophic beliefs. All of us came together and united under Ron Paul. We had two main objectives; to get Ron Paul the nomination in the short term, and continue to spread the message in the long term to bring about a serious change in our country. I feel our long term objective is in need of help, and we need to refocus our energy, at least here at the Daily Paul. So that brings me back to my original question-why are you here?

Of course, not all of us are here for the same reasons that many of us are. This is obviously noticable in nearly every thread. We see those that bicker and start fights, those that childishly call names, and various spammers. We have many threads that have zero relevence to the important task at hand. To be very frank and honest, this is not the place to discuss religion and 9/11 truth theories. This is not the place to smear other candidates. I'm not saying that these topics are not important, just that there are other more appropriate places to discuss them. In my opinion, the Daily Paul (and the internet) is still the most important tool we have in the movement. You may or may not have a different opinion of what the role of the Daily Paul is now that the presidential campaign has been suspended.

Now, to those of us that care about where this website is headed, it is obvious to us that we need to bring back the flag feature. Be it the old flag feature or a new and revised one. There are too many people here, in my opinion, that are helping to focus our attention in the wrong direction. Intentionally or not, the result is the same. There are many posters here who's sole purpose is to create division and in-fighting. You know who you are. We have enough enemies, we have enough people to reach, our road ahead of us is long enough, the last thing we need is division within the movement. I personally don't care whether you now support Barr or Baldwin, since most of us have the same long term goals and just have different opinions on how to get there. Just don't use that to create division. It's counter productive. The flag feature can help curb these nonsense spammers. This election will not make or break the movement, as this is just the begginning.

The revolution march should serve as a renewed sense of spirit, a new begginning to the revolution. So I ask again, why are you here? What drives you to stay in this movement? Having learned what you have, knowing what you do, what keeps you motivated and dedicated to the r3VoLution? What have you sacrificed?

The ones that can answer these questions honestly are the true revolutionaries.

I agree with everything you said, witht the exception

of the flag feature. I was glad when they took it away and I'll be happy if it never comes back. It was way over used and anyone with multiple accounts could censor all speech that said anything they disagreed with. The radical dailypaulers are the ones with the most time to spend altering the site to their liking and any dialog would rest in their supervision.

I did like what you had to say though, and your message was quite eloquent.

Diversity is a Good Thing for Traffic

Yes, the main focus, of course, should be on Ron Paul.

However, if you limit everything to Ron Paul, then less new people will come to the site.

A wide variety of freedom minded topics puts the site high in search results and draws a wide range of people in.

I agree

I agree.

"[The lost causes] are the only causes worth fighting for." Jeff Smith on MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

We were here because we BELIEVED

AND, we sacrificed our vacation time to go out of state to work for Paul's Presidencial bid. Unfortunately, we couldn't get him into office, with all the controlled Media print & TV brainwashing the masses.

But, it does seem he has made "some" difference, in that it seems to have affected people on CNBC programs & other higher "ups" in the Media, because there are some commentators who mention their own criticisms now about the Federal Reserve, etc.

Also, I see, and I hear STEPPED UP criticisms from a FEW members of Congress & Senate about the FEDERAL RESERVE as an entity, plus criticism of the whole "Plunge Protection Team".

AND, THAT IS GOOD.

I am here to support Ron Paul

I am not here to give my reasons to some one else. I love the diversity of subjects on the DP. I dislike the flag feature.
I don't feel it is anyone's right to decide what should or should not be posted other than the host. When people post a thread like this it appears that they are trying to incite a problem.
As I have said in the past, if you dislike a post don't comment on it and it will go away. I just wish that we all could agree that we don't like all the threads and go on. None of us should ever try to force our beliefs on anyone else, nor should any of us try to slap restrictions of censorship on others, here or anywhere else!

It's the diversity of issues that brings people here.

If all Daily Paul talked about was Ron Paul, then only existing Ron Paul supporters would visit. Google searches for a variety of freedom related topics would not send people here, only searches for "Ron Paul" would. As a result, there would be very little draw to the site.

And the flag feature was clearly being abused by multiple accounts - it was smart to get rid of it.

Not trying to incite any problems...

...or force my beliefs, just expressing my concerns and trying to keep everything in perspective and staying focused on our real task at hand.

I guess we respectfully agree to disagree :-)

For liberty!

For liberty!

Three things keep me here:

Education, community and the restoration of liberty. Plain and simple.

DP updates me on RP

1. Dailypaul is the best site to keep me updated on everything RP. I love the video clips! It saves me a lot of time from having to dig for them in Youtube. Likewise with the articles.

2. I don't care about flagging. If I don't like what the person is saying, I don't finish reading it.

... which brings me to an off topic point...
3. One thing I fear more than almost anything for the movement is that we'll be seen as even more cult-like than many already think we are. For example, Lyndon LaRouche-ites. They used to show up at my university ALL of the time. And EVERYONE, dems, reps, commies, feminists, Muslims, Jews, Christians, black nationalists, mexican nationalists, etc. knew that they were the crazy people. 20 years from now I don't want to see RPites harassing college students with a pathetic magazine and have to admit to my children, "oh yea, I used to be one of them... until the got too crazy." Anyone else share this fear? To sum it up with a brilliant bumper sticker I saw for RP, "I already have a Savior, what I need is a President!"

optimism!

I like your optimism about 20 years from now things being normal enough that crazy people talk to students on college campuses.

Listen up!

Food for thought.

I am here because...

Ron Paul is the candidate that most truely represents the ideas the Founding Fathers died for, and Ron Paul was one of the few candidates who claims to be a Christian and actually lives according to the Gospel. Freedom for all is what drives me to stay in this movement, as well as the hope that we can restore our Constitutional republic. (and knowing that the two parties both have much discontent with their assumed nominees). My husband and i have sacrificed time and money to support Ron Paul's campaign, and also have given away a few copies of the Revolution, a Manifesto

Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips

Just some food for thought,

Just some food for thought, but it seems the Ron Paul campaign was entirely grassroots, from the get-go. There was almost no centralized effort. And that may be what you want in government, but I think the failure of the run says something about this mentality. We (the campaign) had ALL this money (20 million + ? ) and there was nothing done that was comparable to the other candidates (widespread ads, etc, etc) The massive majority of campaigning came from the grassroots supporters (you and me); the sign waves, the moneybombs, the phone calls, the marches, the protests, the blimp (which was a terrible idea), etc etc. It seems to me that Ron never took control of the helm, and steered the campaign in the right direction.

What I want to know, is that if We the People did most of the campaign, then where did all this money go? Because none of it was ever used on the blimp or billboards or other efforts. Where did it all go?

I've delivered

I've delivered hundreds of packets of Ron Paul information walking house to house in knee-high snow. I asked people that had property on the main road if they would be willing to put up a Ron Paul sign. I bought three copies of "The Revolution" by Ron Paul and continue to pass them around. I'm also passing around "The End of America" by Naomi Wolf.

I worked hard to help get some Ron Paul delegates into position, but we were unsuccessful.

You can deliver again...

because Ron Paul delegates ARE in position, to use your expression. We ELECTED RP delegates in Pennsylvania. Help get them to Minneapolis. If we could get a lousy $2.00 from each reader of this post, we would have them on their way.

I don't understand

I don't understand why Ron Paul 2008 or the Campaign for Liberty can't help with this. They still have quite a bit of money. I thought this is what it would be used for. Is there some issue with the money being used in this manner?

Here's the understanding

1. Ron Paul 2008 was dissolved.

2. The C4L has been asked for money but we do not expect any support. To our understanding, their finances will, in part, be used to selectively fund public and not temporary political offices. Delegates fall into the latter category.

Thank you.

.

I've been a Paul supporter

I've been a Paul supporter since '88 when he ran as libertarian...and I prayed all this time that he would run again. I clearly understand why he wants to continue as a Republican and support the decision that he has made.

I had not visited this site very much until about six weeks ago...and visited as a 'lurker'. I finally joined. Now I visit here a few times per day trying to keep up with all the news and events.

Like the poster sez I think there's a lot of stuff here that belongs elsewhere, but that's up to your moderator...I've seen many posts that I would have deleted had I been the mod...doing the 'flag' thing allows those with bad intent to do harm to the site by removing good posts that are relevant to the revolution.

Other posts that flame, insult, etc..should not remain and that poster should receive a warning..one...

Those posts are disruptive and for most of us are not informative ...as for me when the posts become negative I simply move to another subject.

What have I done? I've contributed funds...I've talked to people personally, found things of interest to forward to my email list..I've converted ten people to become passionate Paul supporters...I'm elderly, I've been seriously ill...but I can still do a bit for what I believe in.

I thank sincerely all of those who have done so much and know they will continue to do all they can to bring about a positive change in this country.

God help us all. God bless us all.

I am here because...

I am trying to raise money to help get delegates who were ELECTED in Pennsylvania's primary to the GOP convention. No need to convert them with DVD's because they're rabid liberty lovers who ran on a RP delegate slate.

Wanna help get them to Minneapolis? Go to http://cpalpac.com/home/d....

I am here

I was here for many months before registering and love this liberty zone.
Love articles on economics survivalism politics advancement of freedom and conspiracy/awareness...

DP gives me energy!

Disagree with some of what you say

The flag feature was used by trolls exclusively to ban articles I'm now seeing all the time. When the flag feature was here all we had was flame wars. Now we have articles about real news being posted all the time. The smart people don't post on articles they don't fully agree with, they just let it float to the bottom. The flame wars have driven out the idiot egomaniacs.

I agree with posting about important news and information people need to know about.

I've given alot of time to this movement, but its worth it.

You're correct. When there's

You're correct.

When there's thread I don't like, I don't always respond to it; I prefer to let it drop off the Active Forum Topics. I only get in arguments on threads where I want everyone to read what's been posted, especially if it's obnoxious trollery by the O.P.

So while we still have lots of flame wars now, the smarter posters know to let the stuff they don't want to see fall off the screen.

I'm Here Because

six months ago I found out our public education system was more of a training camp for socialism/indoctrination, whatever you want to call it! I am here because I realized I did not have the education I thought I had. I have donated monies where I could, I am talking with neighbors on a local level; but mostly I am re-educating myself and with every new revelation I pass the word - to the clerk at the grocery store, to the customer at the oil exchange shop, to my brother's girlfriend, to family members with letters and lists of websites. I am boycotting certain corporation's products, I don't buy anything imported, I have started a garden, I am learning to make jams and can, I buy coins and do not use FRNs, and whenever I can I say something/anything out loud passing the warning.
PyraBang for Liberty

FRN and ALD

Last I heard the American Liberty Dollar had Big Brother invade and shut them down. Are they back up and running? Which private minter/printer are you using to escape theft from the Federal Reserve?

I haven't found a substitute for FRN or ALD. Any suggestions?

I am here because this

I love the posts. I am a Paulista and I just can't get enough. I will say, however, that I avoid the posts that go over to the dark side with the conspiracies. Some posters are all about that!
Peace to all.

I am here because

www.dvds4delegates.com the newest and possibly the greatest weapon the Revolution now possesses.

I think time is running short. I don't think we have four years, the shit is gonna hit before this happens. What I am most upset about is alot of people on here with the unwillingness to help out. There are still some on this site that think this is a joke, if they thought it was real, they would be willing to give of their time and money, at least their time. There are a lot of lazy drama loving people on this site, they think they can save the world by typing on dailypaul. As far as sacrifices go, I canvassed two precincts, I bought ads about Ron Paul and spent about $4000 on them, I donated to the campaign, and many other candidates and causes, I stood at my election place the whole day and night in sub zero temps, my pants were ice when I left. That is what it is about, being comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is it, good luck to us all if we don't get off of our asses. We don't have four years, for those of you who think we do, keep dreaming.

You've done more than most tog.

I flew to the US in January to be a precinct captain and I couldn't believe how hard it was to get people to walk around with me while I knocked on doors. I didn't ask them to do anything but HOLD stuff.

I'd still like to know how much money has been raised and how many more delegates you need to send DVDs to.

If we had a target to shoot for money-wise, that might help generate a bit of competition to get the job done.

Peace.

Yo, Lisa C.

Evan's DVD project is a great idea, but the bird-in-the-hand is going to be lost if RP supporters don't find the resolve to help fund RP delegates get to Minneapolis. For example, we have delegates here in PA who were ELECTED in the primary who are all UNBOUND. They aren't going to vote for McCain. But that's only if they can get to Minneapolis.

Most of them are okay and can handle it themselves, but a few just aren't going to get there without help. Each of them are going to have to cover about $1,800 in expenses, principally airfare and hotels. Not every patriot can afford that expenditure. Daily Paul rah-rah posts (this is not directed at you) are no substitute. We are going to lose a couple of delegates.

Anyone who wants to help can go to the PA expense fund site at http://cpalpac.com/home/d.... If we could get $1.00 from everyone who read this post, we would have it made. But most RP supporters just want to read the Daily Paul and do the rah-rah thing. Very frustrating.

Have you asked

Have you asked Ron Paul 2008 or the Campaign for Liberty to help? I know they still have quite a bit of money. I would think this is what it should be used for. How are other candidates getting their delegates over there?

Where else is there?

Wait; there are other sites on teh intertubes? ;)

Help Pennsylvania delegates get to Minneapolis

Go to http://cpalpac.com/home/d... to donate funds to help get our delegates to the GOP national convention. Some of them won't otherwise be able to go.

You should start a forum topic on this.

Also, the word responsibility comes to mind.

Well, the DailyPaul is my home...

...of sorts. I get news, views, and the patriot blues. I hear ya' on the flag feature, however that works both ways. Good threads can be buried by trolls, which is why I am for a $5 monthly membership. You can read if you're not a member, but you can not post. I think that it's a great idea! Please, please,......those who will respond by saying, "I can't afford $5" save your sob stories. YES you can! As far as voting goes, we need to have a consensus about what to do on election day and then stick to our guns. We have no power when we are separated which means we MUST vote together. If we vote divided then the establishment wins. Well, they win either way, but at least we can say "screw you" together in unison. I personally believe the establishment is doing a great job of dividing us. There was a time on the DP when PEOPLE actually posted news about their local dilemmas and accomplishments. Many great threads in the past! It was like a patriot intelligence agency working feverishly to end the corrupt establishment. Recently I received an e-mail from Break The Matrix about a "digg squad'. This is not a new idea as the Daily Paul had the best digg squad anyone has ever seen!!! When someone said "digg war" on the DP, everyone swamped the article as if they were defending freedom itself. Ahhhh.....those were the days! Still, we have a lot to learn and pass on, so I'm here educating myself and keeping tabs on the numbskulls. Anyhow, thanks for the topic!

Membership fee...

Thats actually not a bad idea. $5 a month may be a bit too much. Maybe $15 for 6 months membership.

Maybe we should propose this and the DP members can hold a vote?

Has the DP ever held a vote before?

Everything is about money.

I have put so much time and money into all of this. I am not well off. I deeply enjoy coming here to read all of the posts (well alot of them) call me crazy but I still hold out hope for a miracle RP could be president.Even the media is paying attention to him now. Almost seem to be asking him what needs to be done to save this country. They do'nt seem to be looking at him like a flake anymore. They sure seem to be seeing Mccains insanity now. Even Obama is being looked at differently. I think people are realizing. Oh NO! What have we done! I got off topic here but I love checking in here. I wake up to it and check it again before bed. People who come here have won my respect, made me laugh, given me hope, and I have learned alot.Even when people fuss a little I can understand it. It can be frustrating when you want something so much. It's nice to have somwhere to go where others are there who are working for the same things. Peace to you all. I feel like I'm among friends and family here. There will always be little disagreements with friends and family. You work it out and remember why you care for each other. Wish I could say that about my real family. Unfortunatley all they care about is money. They would throw each under a bus for it. Just last night my sister told me that (like I was some kind of nut out of touch with reality) My excitment about the march made a few hundred people look like thousands. She is trying to make me out to be crazy so my Dad will write me out of his will. See sometimes you need a place to go.

I don't think there has ever been a vote on the DP...

...but it shouldn't be that difficult for Mike to implement, aside from having the time to do it. I think $5 a month is reasonable...it's a $1.25 per week.....18¢ a day...seems reasonable to me, especially knowing that trolls will be diminished to a more manageable number. Aside from keeping the trolls numbers down, the trolls that do pay will be forced to help our cause by supporting the DP which makes the monthly membership fee a win-win situation!!! Don't you think?

Agree 100%...

...Maybe a portion of the proceeds going to the CFL?

You know what to do.......

Remember that? Yes, we are the best digg squad ever known. Nobody does it better.... We are the Champions!!!!!

Plus, I bet our Representatives are getting to know us by name by now. Ha!

Oh and don't forget the spamming.

Hey Realdeal! I remember with a great deal...

...of fondness. I can't help but smile when I recall the past year. Great stuff! Spamming is my specialty....all paul-bots are spam experts! Thanks for the smile and chuckle!
