Bernanke vs. Ron Paul – Live - Wed July 16, 10AM EDT

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke continues with his semi-annual testimony before Congress Wednesday morning. Bernanke will face Dr. Paul and the Congressional Committee on Financial Services on Wednesday July 16 at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Be sure to tune in on CNBC, Bloomberg, or CSPAN. To watch online, tune into CSPAN.org.

It was six and a half years ago that I first saw Ron Paul, live on CNBC, during Greenspan’s February 2002 Monetary Policy Report to Congress. Dr. Paul began by comparing the US financial system to Enron! I simply could not believe my ears. Here is an excerpt of the exchange:

Ron Paul to Greenspan (2/27/2002): In many ways I feel that the system you have been asked to manage is similar to being asked to manage an Enron system, because Congress is notoriously in favor of deficit spending. We are currently expanding the national debt at $250 billion per year, and we have nearly a $6 trillion debt. Now we create that debt by buying votes. We spend a lot of money....

Truer words were never spoken. I realized immediately that Dr. Paul was a bona fide hero for going head to head with the then near god-like figure of Greenspan. I was so impressed that I transcribed the whole exchange from CSPAN's video system later that evening (there was no YouTube back then, kids). The complete transcript of that exchange remains, for posterity’s sake on my super old blog, Depression2.tv.

Some things have changed in those 6-1/2 years, and some have not. Greenspan is gone from the scene and mostly disgraced, but Ron Paul is still here and more respected than ever. The national debt has grown by over 50%, and is now closer to $9.5 trillion! And as recent events indicate, we're that much closer to a systemic financial crisis.

When I think of how I randomly heard Dr. Paul that morning on live TV, I can’t help but wonder how many new supporters he'll pick tomorrow, and how far that influence will extend. Be sure to tune in, and let your friends know.

Who was the man

Who was the man who was nailing Ben to the wall with questioning?
When Ben would start talking in circles and blowing smoke, this guy would cut him off and say "No! It was a simple change, why did it take so long to make it happen?!" .. Ultimately Ben blew enough smoke to eat up the time and they wouldn't let the guy ask anymore questions.

Anyone know who it was?

I'm Surprised

I'm surprised that Bernanke has been agreeing with part of what Ron Paul says.

The probable explanation though is that Bernanke knows better than anyone that the economy is in trouble and since he only took over a couple of years ago, if he begins agreeing with Ron Paul, then what he can do is shift most the blame to his predecessors.

He's a sly guy.

I am generally not a violent person

but when Bernanke looks at RP with that smug "look", I just want to slap him repeatedly about the head and shoulders.

When Bernanke looks at the American Citizens

He probably will get SLAPPED around on numerous upcoming and many occasions while defrauding the American Citizens. Bernanke is a FED SHILL. We The People KNOW this and HE will be accountable. Good Luck Ben...YOU are going to need it. Apparently Americans so far will tolerate losing their Freedoms and civil liberties....But if you MESS with their Money? They WILL HURT YOU! LOL!

Look, put yourself in his

Look, put yourself in his place. How else is he going to respond if his livelihood and judgment are questioned. Would he simply quit his job and suggest that the Fed be shut down? Get some perspective.

Dismantling of the Fed would be much, much, MUCH larger than the man heading the organization. I don't take anything Bernanke says personally. In fact, I actually feel for the guy sometimes. He is in a thankless job and he has no clue how to do it.

Bernanke does not yet realize that our world is actually controlled by perception and feelings (for the most part), rather than balance sheets. One leads the other. When people feel good, they spend more and feel confident to invest and create. This is how Milton Friedman was able to survive his post for as many years as he did, by providing cryptic messages that could be read as both positive AND negative, depending on what you brought to the process. Friedman was basically what we used to call a mystic who would read the tea leaves and confuse the tribe into believing that he knew what he was talking about, thus ensuring his survival.

It really is all a magic act.

So now you're an apologist for Bernanke?

Get some perspective?
I think you are the one that needs perspective.
And yes,if Bernanke had any substance,he would say " you know what RP ,you're right. We need to get rid of this private banking cartel that is not accountable to anyone. We need to get away from this fiat currency that is breaking the backs of the working class.I need to go find a job somewhere else. What can I do,to be part of the solution?"
If you had any substance, you would not be defending Bilderberg Ben Bernanke.
But after your idiotic BBC 9/11 post, why would I expect anything less.

You clearly do not

You clearly do not understand human nature, nor do you really understand how the world works. This goes a long way toward explaining your blissful life.

Interestingly, you would never admit to posting thick-headed statements on 9/11, whereas if compelling EVIDENCE (not hearsay, conjecture and wild-ass theories) is ever presented to counter the current understanding of that day's events, I'd gladly change my argument. No one has, and I don't foresee anything other than henhouse paranoia continuing to feed your arguments.

Your apologist post for Bernanke clearly shows you have

absolutely no sense.
I would never put myself in Bilderberg Bens' shoes as he is a criminal conspirator for the illegal unconstitutional Federal Reserve.
That fact that you would sympathize with this creep, shows you are in the same league.
As far as 9/11 is concerned,my statements are on record here as well as yours. I will let the readers decide who is delusional.

As a reader I decided

That for people to call names because someone doesn't agree with them 100%, is very immature and of absolutely no help to the cause. Not only that, but what "League" does that put you in? Dare I say MSM Political Pundit League of Amerika?

I get where you're coming

I get where you're coming from with how you feel about Bernanke, but you do need to understand a bit more about human nature. Everyone does what they do because they think it's the right thing to do, not because they feel like being evil. I'm sure Bernanke feels perfectly justified in his actions, although that obviously involves a huge element of denial, but we've all been there and done that at some point.

I'm firmly on the truther side of the 911 debate, and I have good friends who I've talked to about it, some of them checked out what I was tellling them and they're clever people who I respect, but about half weren't turned to my POV, despite the vast amounts of evidence available. I'm not sure why but I found myself getting quite angry with them, which is definitely counter-effective.

I guess that's the point of my post to you, is just to say stay polite and deal with facts only, don't get personal with people 'cos that doesn't work, so I hope you don't mind this bit of advice.

There's a huge debate going on in the Guardian today, about 1700 comments last time I looked, and the truthers have won hands down, due to some hard work by a few dedicated posters who have kept polite and dealt with facts only, and completely shown up the shills who have mostly had to resort to personal attacks.

On a similar note, Ron Paul is trying to educate people, so if he was less courteous to Bernanke it would inevitably mean that many typical American conservatives being exposed to Ron Paul for the first time would disregard his message without listening to it.

I guess Ron might call that

I guess Ron might call that entire string of invective, "an interesting point of view".

Also, I'd be very interested to learn what it is that you do for a living. What your religious viewpoints are, how much you have saved for retirement, the names and ages of your children, which clubs, leagues, and local baseball teams you support and your shoe size.

Heck, you know everything better than anyone else, so we might as well learn from the best.

"nationalization"

What a pretty word for socialism. That other Congressman from Texas was really good.

He made the observation that we privatize profits and socialize losses. This national corporate-socialism has to stop.
