I worked in healthcare for 20+ years, I took the vaccine maybe 4 of the last 6 years "to protect the patients." It ALWAYS made me sick and I always got the flu anyway. The doctor would always say "think how bad it would have been if you had not had the vaccine" and it always seemed a bass-ackwards view to me. I have not had the vaccine in several years now, and have not had the flu. Granted, I no longer work in the public, either.
Where oh where to find the truth? It is right there, in the ultra-fine print in the package insert. Sure, there is probably some fudging of numbers, and maybe a true suppression of clinical trial results, but they usually tell you what the risks are to avoid liability. You say you couldn't read it or did not have time? Well, that was YOUR negligence, then, wasn't it? Seriously, that is how the CFO that runs the doctor's office and life will view it.
Get out the magnifying glass, tell the pharmacist to help the next customer, and read the insert.
"May cause heart attacks in otherwise healthy patients" was the eye-opener on my headache medicine. Sure, migraines suck, but I am thinking a heart attack would suck more... not anxious for a side-by-side comparison...
