First Step Hardest

I went to my first local GOP meeting in my area. Ugh! I am ashamed that I have never been involved in politics. I always thought it was over my head or I was just lazy and apathetic. There were about 25 people
and most were OLD. I'm old and they made me look young. I didn't say anything just went to observe and they had candidates that were running for local office there to speak. They mentioned that they had a gift of money from another Republican group who had folded. LOL

Half of the people there were guests like myself to listen to the candidates. Overheard some McInsane talk but there were a few people who were using the Ron Paul code talk, but I was to afraid to say anything or approach anyone. My husband wouldn't go with me (big chicken, hee, hee) well when I got home, he asked how it went.
I said I was ashamed of myself and that we are reaping what we have sown. We gave nothing and we are getting nothing.

If we want representation then we have to step up and make our views known. They asked Dr. Paul how he kept from getting discouraged he said " I have no expectations". How brilliant and honest. We go be nice state our concerns and such and sit back down. That's it, no need to fight and argue. Let's them look like an idiot if they want to argue.

I plan on going again. The next time I may speak a little who knows someone may come up and say guess what I support Ron Paul, too.
Wouldn't that be great? Thanks, for listening Peace

Of course...

You should mention you are a Ron Paul supporter.

I've stopped keeping my mouth shut. Sure, some people look at me like I'm crazy, but most look at me like, "Hey, I can't really argue with what he's saying."

What I've learned is that most Americans don't have a clue. All those old people at this meeting are brain-washed by Fox News. If they disagree with you, who cares... they'll be dead soon. No offense intended, but when I went to our ballot box here in AL and saw all the old people in line, I thought, "This is the problem with America today. The only people who are voting are the people who have been brainwashed for 60-70 years by our current corrupt political system and the corporate media. These people don't even know how to turn a computer on, much less surf the web to find out what's really going on in the world."

In that most Americans don't have a clue, you can be the one to provide that clue... to be the voice of reason. I find that when I start running my mouth about our government, some people will pipe up and try to disagree. Then the debate starts. Once the debate starts, I win.

Why?

Because I happen to have a slight clue what I'm talking about. I'm no political genius, but I've been following RP's campaign religiously for almost a year now, so I know MUCH more about the real issues that face America today than the average Joe. So, when I bring up FISA, the subprime mortgage crisis, the dollar crisis and it's relation to the price of oil, the repeated violations of our civil liberties through legislation such as the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act and HR 1955... most people don't know enough to have a reason debate against me. Even if they do know something about these things, what leg do they have to stand on in a real debate? None.

RP himself has said it, and I paraphrase...

"I am blessed with the most informed, well-read supporters in the country."

Most people are clueless, and we have to remember that. We are the only ones who really know what's going on, and we have to remember that. We cannot be afraid to talk, because otherwise we will remain the only ones who really know what's going on.

Speak up and don't be scared. The worst they can do is laugh at you behind your back. They won't laugh at you to your face generally... and if they do then you can use your info to get some debating going... in which case the other people will end up looking like a fool. When you are on the right side of an argument... and you know your shit... and you're against someone who has no clue... you will win.

Wow, thanks

for the in put I feel like a fish out of water. It also occurred to me that I could bring a folder with some info to back up any information I give. It would make me feel more secure because I can't always remember all the information and if they took some info they could take it home and read it at their leisure. I want to go at it easy after all this is their den and I'm a stranger. There is just no way I can support Mclame and I am afraid they will want me too. This is really awkward.

It wouldn't hurt...

to have some info with you. I wouldn't break it out unless you are attacked for your views though.

I'm also not saying you should try and rock the boat. Like you said, you are the new person there, and you don't want to alienate yourself right off the bat like that.

But...

I am saying that if you are ASKED your views, you should not be afraid to make them known. Then, if rebuked, come back with some of your info. Try to speak off the top of your head first... and then if you feel you're not getting your point across, break out some written stuff to back you up.

We cannot be silent patriots in this revolution. The lack of our views being heard by the general public is what got us into this mess to begin with.

We must fight for our country. We must do it within the political process, and I think taking over the weakened republican party is our best chance of having our voices heard. We do support typical republican values... always remember that. McCain is no conservative. Even the GOP knows that. Keep that in the forefront of your head when you're talking to these people and you might get some of them to listen.

Thanks and I agree

I've been thinking the Republican Party could be taken back after seeing those people there. I think they are trying to get us to join the other third parties hoping we would go away. They are really weak right now if we could just keep everyone on board. Peace

Maybe ease into it by telling them you are a supporter

of the Constitution?

Can they get mad at you for that?

Wish I could have gone to the meeting with you.

Thank you!

And please do keep it up!

A friend mentioned that people can figure out most all of the rules to football, and certainly enough to follow the action of a game rather closely. This can be taught to any 'bimbo' in one season, following one team. That is around 50 hours of PASSIVE study. (16 games x 3 hours per week)

I'll bet most of 'us' have learned way more during the last (political) season. Time to jump in!!!

You would love my County meetings!

Our County Central Committee has some a couple gray heads, one bald one, two gents in their mid-life years with pony tails down their backs, and the youngest member is 46. Well, there is a 26 year old in an apparently honorary position, he has never showed up at a meeting.
The only people on the committee who are NOT Ron Paul supporters are the treasurer and the guy who never shows up.
We passed a couple resolutions last week, one about the Fed and one about not attacking sovereign nations without a proper declaration of war...
Idaho really is the exception, perhaps the one that proves the rule, but our "energized support base" is mostly eligible for Social Security. There is a seriously large group of old men and women who are pissed off at what has happened to their nation, and they are NOT afraid to speak out about Ron Paul - lol!
Thanks for getting yourself to the meeting. You tell your husband I said he is a coward! ;) You keep on keeping on!

Should I come

out of the closet and admit I'm a Ron Paul supporter? LOL Man, I think I now know how gay people feel. LOL

I know what you mean

I've been attending GOP events for months, and at nearly every one I find myself gazing out at a sea of salt and pepper hair, interrupted only by the oasis of the youthful heads of my fellow Ron Paul supporters!

What an inspiring image...

"interrupted only by the oasis of the youthful heads of my fellow Ron Paul supporters!" We are the future!

All for Ron Paul.

I emailed the local GOP to find out about meetings. The County chair called me back in 2 minutes. (I Swear!.) He was excited that I wanted to attend the meetings and asked many questions about who I was. He told me the next meeting was a month from then and was really looking forward to meeting me.

That next month I was busy calling my list of about 4,000 registered republicans. So by the time the meeting came around, every one who would be attending knew me. When I walked into the meeting, the county chair walked right up to me and already knew who I was. Funny thing though, he didn't seem the least bit happy to see me like he sounded on the phone, and being sort of good at picking up on subtleties, I could sense the wariness as I entered the room.

While most there were careful, one guy managed to crack a Ron Paul joke, but no one responded. Anyway, I introduced myself and explained that I was looking forward to learning about the political process and was happy to be there.

As the months have gone by, I am still the outsider, but people have been more pleasant and the chair even emailed me and said I was a breath of fresh air. At this weekend's convention, one woman from our group even asked me if I wanted to volunteer at the national convention. I think that was a big step for her.

At any rate I think it was good that I got involved.

Can someone

tell me? If you do the calling list what are they asking you to do? I wouldn't have to mention Mclame would I? I just can't bear to even say his name. In fact at the meeting one of the biggest loud mouths was the biggest Mclame supporter and he sat right next to me. It made me so sick I couldn't look at him. LOL This is one of the hardest things I have had to do. Peace

I joined in Nov. They are

I joined in Nov. They are all old. I always said I was for Ron. I have helped with their committees and became a delegate to the convention on 7/26. All the national delegates are already elected--now they are going to elect 'electors". I have no idea, but this was a year of finding out, for me. I gave them all copies of the Constitution--they all love it. They do NOT know they are RP supporters, but they really are. They know I will not vote for a liberal like McCain. I told them I would help in the election to get people out to vote but I would never support McCain, so they just know I am a person sticking by my principles, whether they like them or not. I ask questions. I want to know everything. They are used to it now, and me. Last meeting a 90 year old woman got up and ranted about her lifelong fight against Communism, and how they are still trying to take over this country and get God out of everything..she was no speaker but everyone tried to listen. She was much more radical than I, so ...whatever..I find that if I am constantly offering to help, they put up with my Ron Rants..:) I gave them copies of the Washington You're Fired DVD..I gave one to our mayor..and someone I gave one to showed it at the library..every little thing we can do to raise consciousness will make our win quicker and less bloody. We have to act.

Actually this was way last

Actually this was way last October that I called registered republicans looking for those who supported Ron Paul or were interested in hearing about him. That was before hardly anyone had heard of him. I did this up until the evening of the Iowa caucus on January 4th.

What's this calling list that you have all about?

That is all it takes

www.dvds4delegates.com the newest and possibly the greatest weapon the Revolution now possesses.

I went to one of those and became so overwhelmed with emotion for Ron Paul, I almost went to tears. To see all these people supporting the lie made me sad. They did not even know what they truly were supporting. It is sad to see people so lost and in the dark. It is like these people are signing their own ticket to destruction, some don't even know it. That is when it is the saddest is when they don't even know, they are committing suicide for our Nation because they believe in the system and America. With their pride they think they are doing something good for their country, because of the lies that the news feeds them. Sad, truly sad. Go wake em up next time you go, you will feel great pulling their blindfolds off.

Congratulations you just

Congratulations you just moved to the front of the battle. I have been going for months and met some allies and have some PCP’s elected and still when it comes time go to the next one those old feeling of not wanting to bother rear their heads. But I just go anyways and I am always glad I did. I have met some good people and made some allies and became a delegate and am now an alternate PCP that way etc. This is where the rubber meets the road.

No decoder ring in my Ovaltine

Alright, what's this "Ron Paul code"?

When they

mention the Constitution (can land you on nsa list). Getting back to basics,
etc. they use a lot of the same phrases we use here. At least, that was the feeling I got but who knows I've never been to one of those meetings before,
maybe it was wishful thinking. Peace
