Stop the Insanity: Time to boycott the DVD website in response to spamming, sleazy tactics
I'm the first one to applaud people for taking initiative and launching new projects. I'm also the first to understand that we're a diverse group and we're not always going to see eye to eye. With both those things in mind, I sat back and ignored the spam from supporters of the dvdsfordelegates project for many weeks.
But enough is enough.
You've seen these threads, I'm sure. They have titles like:
"I dropped www.dvds4delegates.com $500.00 last week, and because you are all getting fired up about it, I am gonna drop another $" (by tog2476 on July 17)
"*UPDATE* Okay!! I hear you guys!!!! Will do my best to answer questions regarding dvds4delegates!!!" (by daughter4liberty on July 17)
"Okay, I see it is time to post another dvds4delegates Q&A thread!!!!" (by daughter4liberty on July 17)
"Another disguised post for www.dvds4delegates.com, are we taking up too much room trying to get Ron Paul elected" (by tog2476 on July 17)
Really, none of these posts are appropriate. Creating a thread to "announce" that you've donated money to a project is not newsworthy, even if that's your legitimate intention. When you read these threads, you can tell it's not. They're just giant link-dumps disguised as legitimate discussion. Then the other spammers pile on. "Yeah yeah yeah! You're so awesome is the best thing in the revolution since sliced bread." And many of these posters have signatures (or even more obnoxious, reverse-signatures that enter text BEFORE the post). Some of these signature spammers make pointless posts (like "bump" or some inane comment) simply so they can get their signature out there again.
But I figured it was best to "live and let live." An occasional "tangent" is OK. But the sheer volume of spam, and the sleazy tactics of the spammers, have crossed the line.
Let's look at both angles:
THE SPAM FACTOR
Besides the fact that these people threadjack, spam via signatures (and the even more pathetic "reverse signature"), and insert spam-links wherever they can (even if the thread isn't related to their project), there's so much more that they're up to.
Take tog2476. This guy creates a thread called I dropped www.dvds4delegates.com $500.00 last week, and because you are all getting fired up about it, I am gonna drop another $, which is pathetic enough. Six of the 14 comments on the thread are from tog or fellow spammer daughter4liberty, including some truly insightful comments like "GO TOG!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" and "THANKS GUYS YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!" Those aren't just the subject lines of the posts. They're the entire posts! Oh, wait, let's be accurate. There's other stuff in the posts, but it's just the "signature" which is the same in every post daughter4liberty made around that time. Apparently patting each other on the back and using lots of exclamation points are rituals spammers enjoy.
That post is bad enough. But what did tog2476 do next? He created yet another spam thread just a few hours later. This one, brilliantly entitled "Another disguised post for www.dvds4delegates.com, are we taking up too much room trying to get Ron Paul elected," included multiple self-bumps in the form of "shout outs" to those helping him.
Daughter4liberty is another spammer in this effort. She created two threads with intellectually dishonest titles (
"*UPDATE* Okay!! I hear you guys!!!! Will do my best to answer questions regarding dvds4delegates!!!" and
"Okay, I see it is time to post another dvds4delegates Q&A thread!!!!") within approximately two hours of each other! Was anyone really asking "questions" regarding the site (not counting fake questions from sock-puppets to provide a pretext for another thread)? If so, why weren't they answered on the site? And even if there were such questions, there's no justification for the second thread.
THE SLEAZE FACTOR
Daughter4liberty is out of line for spamming and creating threads, but tog2476 takes the sleaze factor to another level. Take, for instance, this nugget: "sorry for the inconvenience...If you don't like this post you are on the wrong site."
Aside from the fact that he's arrogantly lying with an insincere "apology" for the inconvenience, he then turns around and attacks anyone who would criticize his spamming as not being a true Ron Paul supporter. Tog missed his chance to work for Rudy Giuliani, apparently. This reminds me of "if you're against the war, you're against the troops" and other despicable smears.
Nutjob spammer-ally Liberty_Belle commented: "I choose not to participate in things that we will have plenty of time to discuss in the FEMA camps...but I don't impose my personal will on those threads. Do you have a problem with these positive posts?...then just ignore them! Time is of the essence here...and if you are not willing to be a postitive part of the solution then you are most certainly part of the problem! Is it frustrating to you to not be able to "tase me bro?"
OK there, spaceman.
Then there's wackjob "IamVoting4RonPaul" (also someone behind the divisive attacks on Paul supporters who are considering voting Baldwin or Barr if Paul doesn't get the nomination), who writes: "Now, Agent Parkman, please be honest. You were never going to donate anyway because you're not a Ron Paul supporter. It's pretty obvious that you weren't around for the money bombs...Why do you only show up on the DVD threads?"
Wow. This is just a smörgåsbord of BS. Agent Parkman? I've never donated? I'm not a Ron Paul supporter? I wasn't around for the money bombs? I only show up on DVD threads? I don't think you could be wrong so many times in such a short post without trying REALLY hard. But at least he didn't call me a CIA disinfo agent. Yet.
Right. Point proven.
Perhaps I'm being too rough on the DVD project, and perhaps these bad apples aren't speaking for the project. If this is the case, those officially in charge of the project need to rebuke the actions of TOG, Daughter4liberty, and the other spammers/attackers. Unless and until that happens, it's clear this is a project associated with unstable, unsavory figures and should not be supported.

I remember when i tried to get the April1st moneybomb going...i kept on posting it everywhere. I started threads solely to remind people when it was and how much longer till it arrives. And their were people like you that actually flagged me for starting a moneybomb thread. I admit I started doing things that made people mad... like starting a thread titled "Mccain accepts Ron Paul's debate challenge"... and then all i wrote was "April Fool's". It was funny to me but people got mad. DVDfor delegates is a good idea... we should have a money bomb just for that.

That's quite a post, you spent some time on that. You really gave it to folks who are trying to make a difference. If you don't like some one trying hard to make a difference and/or not giving up, just ignore it. It's your right to disagree.

Why do you oppose a project (albeit maybe could be handled better, but this is volunteer "grass roots") that's trying to make a difference.

Well, I've sat by and watched the "debate" over the DVDs4Delegates project and I now have a few things to say, so if you don't mind I'm going to post my thoughts and concerns. I've read many reasons why this project should not consistently be posted on the Daily Paul. First of all, I don't believe the frequency of the calls for help or attention to this project have been overwhelming or irritating. Secondly, where else, if not at the DP, can patriots look for help in regards to the various important projects currently in the hopper, not to mention the ones coming down the pike? The DP is home-base which makes it the place for such information and exchange of ideas and concerns. I read one post where the author was comparing the DVD's4Delegtaes project to an Obama4President spammer....really....I actually read that! The project in question is meant to inform the republican delegates of the message that we have been spreading for the past year and a half....which is based on the philosophy that Ron Paul has been spreading for nearly thirty years. Ultimately, spreading the message is our main purpose. should we spread the message to the populous at large? Of course. Should we make a concerted effort to spread this message to those that are meant to represent the populous at large? Absolutely! Delegates are people that take part in the political process for various reasons and I will not speculate what those reasons are. However, the fact that these individuals participate in the political process is why we should be spreading this message to them and more importantly, helping them understand it. Operation St.Paul is also geared toward this effort and I think of the St.Paul operation as a little reminder, to the delegates, of the message that they obtained from the DVD4Delegates project. There is a "big picture" to all of these projects and we must do all that we can to ensure the success of each of them, which will ensure the success of the big picture. Personally, I would rather see 20 DVDs4Delegates forum topics than a plethora of the various obtuse topics regularly posted here at the DP. Instead of posting reasons why the DVDs4Delegates project and future projects shouldn't be frequently posted at the DP, think of reasons why they should. It will make our movement stronger and enhance the success of the projects we use as our weapons for freedom.

are a complete waste of our time. I think the project is a great idea and a worthwhile project but some people have taken it to a point where people will actively avoid it. I will not donate until the noise stops.

That is not what Parkman is saying...
Parkman is clearly a liberty-minded fellow. He clearly supports this freedom movement. Re-read his post, then reconsider your above statement.
On an aside, I do agree that these DVD posts would become white noise for those not as passionate about this particular project. There is a certain viral element to these posts, and whether or not they are productive is another matter.
Look, it comes down to this: observe the proper forum conduct, we can only make ourselves look like immature children with this bickering. Post and let post, its as simple as that. Recognize that the forum topics added each day here should represent the highest in reasoned, civil discussion in our liberty movement, for we are only doing ourselves a disservice by placing limitations on our discussion.
Parkman clearly supports RP because he takes the time to post here, whether or not his topics are enlightening is another issue. End the cycle of bickering once and for all.

Some of us are still hoping Ron Paul is elected President in 2008....I would rather see 4-5 posts about the DVD project than 4-5 posts about OTHER CANDIDATES...especially since the RNC hasn't been held yet..and this very project is designed to help Dr. Paul...soooo, it doesn't bother me....as a matter of fact, I signed on to help mail out dvd's should the project reach fruition....

3. Understand that this is a big year and the Liberty Movement should try to make a big impact. Accordingly, we shouldn't be attacking each other. We need to stay together, even if we vote different ways, and organize for the future. Angry attacks against fellow Paulites will only hurt this movement and our chances of being a political force now and in the future.
