GOP cancels state convention; panel to pick Nevada national delegates

"The Nevada Republican Party decided Thursday not to reconvene its scuttled state convention this month, claiming it couldn't generate enough interest to reach a legal quorum to elect delegates to the national convention in St. Paul, Minn.

Instead, the party's executive board, in a private conference call July 25, would decide who from Nevada will attend the Republican National Convention to formally nominate U.S. Sen. John McCain.

The state party abruptly ended its state convention in April to head off a delegation of Ron Paul supporters who had captured control of the proceedings and appeared on track to elect a majority slate to the Sept. 1-4 national convention."

This is probably the best article so far about the Nevada delegation. Especially cause it states how the state party shut it down because Ron Paul supporters were winning.

I'm not sure why/how you

I'm not sure why/how you view this as good news. Neither group had a quorum. According to the article the state will pick their own delegates and send. The article says that the state will probably prevail. If this happens, we lose.

How do you see this as good news?

One positive way to fight

this BS by the GOP NV, is to provide especially Chris Dyer, James Smack and Carl Bunce all the financial and volunteer support you have to ensure they win their primaries on August 12th. If Smack and Bunce (or one of them) win their primaries against the GOP incumbents, they are as good as selected, also in November. This will send a clear message to the GOP and RNC and we will have 2 Ron Paul Republicans already

We may have to get a little rowdy now

a little civil disobedience comes to mind, someday we may have to stomp people, I hope not, but we may.

i can hardly believe I was there!

My first convention, and what a disgrace. It's true what people are saying, its all a sham. Are there enough willing people to change this country around? I hope so.

I Hope the NV Folks are in Contact with the Judicial Committee

I assume the GOP has as judicial committee. These folks are elected by the delegates to be impartial (because they never know what issue they might have to decide). They interpret the rules and decide what the outcome should be in cases like the NV convention.

The rules should have some process for resolving this, and the reconventioneers should be sure to keep to the process, whatever it is. If the delegates chosen by the reconventioneers are not upheld by the credentials committee, the next step is to go to the judicial committee (I'm guessing). They may need advance notice, so with time short, be prepared.

No outside court judge will decide in our favor if we don't first follow the rules of the organization. That means appealing (I'm guessing) first to the GOP judicial committee before seeking any help from the government court system.

And even before that, there may need to be an appeal to the NV GOP judicial committee which (I'm guessing) is separate from the National GOP judicial committee. In fact, since NV gave McCain third place, I'd go to them first. Remember, the judicial committee members are chosen because the delegates think they're unbiased and know the rules.

I believe so

At this point we have some very dedicated and determined people working on all the legal issues regarding the state delegation. From what it seems they are far ahead on handling all of this.

I think what we could all do is just raise the public awareness of what is happening in Nevada and to concentrate our efforts on the local offices that RP are up for.

Ok, we got one week to fight this

If I understand this, the article says July 25 which means the phone call has not taken place yet. Right?

Can't believe Nevadans put up with that crap?

Alaney posted the above comment. Well, we're NOT putting up with that crap! We worked very hard to get elected as county delegates to our state convention, we were WINNING big time when the plug was pulled on the delegate elections. We put together a resumption of the convention & elected our delegates. We are filing suit over this latest move by the state GOP to deny our delegates. So what do you want us to do, Alaney? Call Hit Men R Us & give them a list? I'd love to hear your ideas. Nevada has had its shit together probably better than any other state & I'm extremely proud of all the people I've met in the movement here. The story about our disenfranchisement needs to be spread across the globe. THIS is what happens when you don't toe the line! Nevada will be in St Paul, and we know for sure we'll be in at least one convention hall, if not two.

Figured this would be the

Figured this would be the end game for the Neo-Cons. Let's have 20,000 folks in St. Paul for the first day of the Republican convention and seat the delegation of the people, not of the elites, from Nevada.

And then let's nominate from the floor...A doctor known to us all...the good gentleman from Texas and the next President of these United States...Ron Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screw the GOP

Forget about either the republican or democratic party. Let's start our own party. The Liberty party, Taft Republican party, or just plain Ron Paul Party..... or "I actually care about the america I read in history books as a child" party.

It starts at the state

It starts at the state level. Start a state party and call it what you want, but have it ready for 2010. I'm working the concept in my state and want to call it the Bull Whip Party.

Been there, done that

It's called the Libertarian Party, and it was started about the same time Ron Paul got disgusted with events and ran for Congress: and for all the same reasons.

Check it out at LP.org

You're welcome to join any time, and it's relatively easy to become a delegate. We follow our rules (from what I've seen in California and at National conventions) and probably are too tolerant of opposing views.

The big advantage is that as the largest alternative party to the dominant parties, it will have candidates on the ballots in more states than the others, and already has more elected officials than all the other alternate parties combined.

It's all about freedom and liberty.

The problem is neither the

The problem is neither the LP nor the CP can truly accommodate this movement. Only Ron Paul can bridge the gap.

How about Liberty Party?

I was just thinking about Nevada today ...

Thanks.

WAHOR!!

This development gives the appearance of establishing a

means whereby the credentials of the privately-chosen delegates (who will be McCain supporters) can be challenged.

Great quote

"I don't ever remember such chaos in the party," said Barbara Vucanovich, a former congresswoman who has been involved in party politics since the early 1950s. "Frankly, its an embarrassment for our state and also makes it difficult for John McCain. He needs all the electoral votes he can get."

Gee, is this long time GOP activist and McCain supporter really saying that McCain is a weak candidate who needs all the help he can get? LOL. I love it!

it just shows how terrified they are!

and it shows that WE CAN WIN

We

need 20,000 plus RP supporters to deliver the Nev. delegates to the convention floor on Sept.1, now that would get media attention!

Take the first paragraph...

...and highlight it thusly:

The Nevada Republican Party decided Thursday not to reconvene its scuttled state convention this month, claiming it couldn't generate enough interest

...and you have the Party's epitaph, which will be officially announced this November.

We can only hope. An epitaph

I can't believe Nevadians put up with this crap!

There should be outcrys loud and clear in Nevada. This is why I'm writing off the GOP. I hope all goes well with the DVDs4delegate project. It's a possibility, and they should certainly use the fiasco in Nevada as proof that the GOP has deteriorated into a bunch of thugs.
