As a swede I have watched with satisfaction and amazement the Ron Paul revolution.
I have been involved here the last year in many discussions about Europe vs America and given my take on things.
Sometimes and actually quite often Americans have been accused of more than they deserve.
First of all after some research here in Sweden and other Europe countries, most of the things happening at your doorstep are happening here to.
Usually this does not get much traction due to the fact that many of us here are used to being told what to do and not complain.
To my great surprise our equivalent to the FISA act is now much criticized here and if we are lucky may be reversed.
Now my initial topic description here was America as freedom beacon, why then is that so important to the whole world.
It is something everyone in America likes to use in different forms. The neocons even use them when they go about killing people, all in the name of freedom and democracy. That is so absurd of course. It is something villains use to justify their dark crimes.
I know some time ago there were a topic what the differences are between some northern countries in Europe and the USA. Well there are some differences of course. There are socialism here and it is hailed as the only good thing, though know, not everyone here likes that. America now is moving in rapid speed towards this also, this is of course very amazing considering the widespread communist haters not long ago.
In my humble opinion, America are duped by its powers that be quite easily, by one factor that differs us from you quite dramatically.
There are so many uneducated and poor people among you and even some supposedly educated still watch to much tv and are being brainwashed. They really have a hard time thinking for themselves and as someone said most people are repeaters, they only repeat what others said and make it their own thought. Never questioning the truth or validity of it.
Now don't for a second think, they don't dupe us here also they do...but sometimes it is a bit harder as people in general are more educated.
You need asap to stop your spending on wars and spend it on yourselves again and you would once again be the #1 country in no time.
The reason America seems to become fascist even faster than Europe is this mass of ignorant people AND even more importantly, YOU have a much grander history of TRUE freedom. They have to use all their propaganda on you, they have to cheat more in the USA(diebold, etc), they have to move faster with more outrageous laws, because if the American people awaken in time, it will all come crashing down and woe those that finally enrage the bear that is the American people.
What happens in the US is so very important to us here to, cause it is so much harder here, we have been duped for so much longer and in much we never had your constitution, not any history of freedom.
We may think we are free even when we are not. It may move slower here, but they have have much more time. This whole EU crap is of course to override troublesome countries such as mine. Just remove the decisions from the people and voila no more Sweden anyway.
The freedom movement can awaken the whole planet, that is why now more than ever, we all need America to awaken and lead the way once more, for a more peaceful and beautiful, prosperous world.
Right now, most despise Americans for attacking poor nations and killing women and children, but we need America to once again become the freedom loving nation, that leads the way to love freedom and peace.
No other nation can force the US to do anything or even resist.
That is why America need to once again become what it was.
The freedom beacon and the envy of the world.
Now rise Americans once more, I will follow you into Hades itself, for now I too have tasted freedom and want it for myself.

I really could underwrite your statement. I 'am sure if the united States embraces the ideas of Ron Paul the reputation of the united States would be restored and again it would become the envy of the world. Just think on all the poor and ambitious people from your and my country (like Ron Paul' grandfather) who emigrated to America to build up a better livelihood. Now the time is over when you might emigrate to another continent for a new frontier. We have to struggle for our liberty where we are! Being patriots in the best sense of the word. Not to prepare for war on each other, but in friendship and respect for the people of other nations.

you know there are people working on a Campaign for Liberty - like platform in Europe ? I think it would be great to exchange such news and experiences and on a later stage support friends of freedom in other countries.

You know in Germany was all this socialdemocratic talking about "das schwedische Modell" - the swedish model. Always sounded quite opressive to me. So how is "folksheim" (?) doing? I guess it's too long a story to set it forth it here. But it's inspiring, that in Swededen libertarianism may grow.

was prosperous(the Swedish model) part market economy, part socialism, until the bank, currency crises of 93-94, when all our bank system totally collapsed. banks were bailed out by our pension funds as is now happening in the US.
Don´t forget though that we only have 9 million inhabitants and a different history. The people got rid of the monarchy(as power, now without power) through socialism, and we hardly spend anything on the military.
Though lately we still pay as much tax and the benefits decrease yearly a sure sign of to big government and corruption.
as they say democracy always lead to oligarchy. sigh...
a short history:
until the 1930´s Sweden had a strong monarchy and a right wing parliament, a few people was very wealthy and most poor.
around 1930´s the socialist party arose promising prosperity to everyone.
in much this succeeded, much thanks to Sweden avoiding both world wars, we were not devastated and profited much from that.
this worked well until the currency, bank crises as I said, when our fiat currency completely collapsed.
and apartment values dropped 50-60 % in value...the currency lost 50% value a complete chaos...
What caused the bank crisis ?
Maybe this was all part of a scheme to force the Swedish to drop their neutrality and to join the EU. All the strange submarine-appearances and the Palme assassination are supicious too.

side to my European neighbors as well. Many more Americans are starting to question; but as you stated, many are too poor and ignorant (by design). However, many still have that "blind faith" that OUR government would never do that!!!

If they want the people to go back to sleep, they will have to cut the price of a gallon by half.

I hope so. Years ago I thought that a communist or socialist country was that way because the government forced it on the people. Here in America there seems to be a lot of people who support the move toward socialization of many things. Look at the move toward socialized health care. I think those who support it outnumber those who don't. Health care has become very expensive due to regulation, what's their answer...more regulation and taxpayer funding until it becomes completely controlled by government at even more cost. The same with the economy, the regulators cause the problems then seize more control and finance the problems with our money. It seems that this is happening everywhere while Americans are reduced to being treated like children. Can we make these decisions by ourselves anymore? Do we need to put a "government agency" in charge of every function of society? Why can't the people see that things can be so simple and so cheap if we do it ourselves. Do you pick weeds from your garden with a hand shovel or a backhoe? Governments screw in light bulbs by spinning the building.
