Anyone noticed the GOOD DEALS lately? SCARY
This just proves how bad everything is getting......but if you pay attention, you can really score.
This just happened to me in the last 4 days. First off, I opened up a mail flyer, and 2 Restaurants yesterday sent out $30 in gift cards. No rhyme or reason. Here is $30 to use at our establishments. This is crazy. I will use them.
Going around the Portland Area, all of the High End Restaurants have initiated a new Happy Hour. This is not your traditional Happy Hour....it is a FOOD happy hour. You need to call your local Restauraunts in your area and see if they are doing this...I bet they are.......Here is how it is working here.....
Stanfords, Newport Bay, McKormick and Schmicks, Gustavs, Beaches, Henry's just to name a few.
The deal is, buy a drink (Iced tea or anything) and get a big list of full featured Menu items for $1.95.
I thought these would be little portions...but they are the full meal deal.
AMAZING.
Next one....I wanted some new clothes. Kohls is having a sale, so I went. Wow...up to 80% off on clearance until July 22nd!, and if you sign up for their credit card you get to scratch a card off for another discount for 15%, 20% or 30% off. Well I asked one of the guys that works thier what he could do for me. He said he would give me 20% off by default if I didn't get a 30% card, and he handed me a handful of scratch tickets. BAM...I found a 30% discount card. SO I got $1200 in clothes for $212.00. 29 items! Dress shirts, pants, etc.
So with the economy crashing.....you can pick up on some crazy deals going on.
NOTE: I have a great credit score, and I am not in debt. And signing up for this credit card is the only way I use credit. As soon as the bill comes...I will pay it off. And I will cancel the card. Do not use this system unless you intend to pay off the balance immediately when the bill comes. They are betting they will make the interest off me...NOT!!
Make some calls around your town....you will not believe the deals that are popping up if you need something...
Just trying to help!
Peace!

I know
I know that alot of restaurants are just trying to get you in the door so you spend money on liquor. They'll give you a deal on the food but they expect you to have a few drinks and that is where most restaurants make their money.
Sista's Deal of the Week!
Did a little lite shopping today....Stores and manufacturers are just giving stuff away with all the promos. Stopped off at CVS today and here's how I did:
4 - Excedrin PM (24 ct)
1 - Tide laundry detergent (50oz)
1 - Dawn dish detergent
3 - OralB toothbrush
2 - Colgate Total toothpaste
2 - Covergirl cosmetics
2 - Pert Plus shampoo (13.5oz)
-------------
$1.50 TOTAL that I paid after store sale specials, mfg coupons, and store coupons (full retail total would have been somewhere around $70). AND I now have $9.50 to use on my next shopping trip; also a store coupon for a free bottle of ibuprofin.
Can I eat any of this stuff if times get hard? Not likely, but it sure frees up a chunk out of my grocery budget.....But then again, you should see what I do to them at the grocery store!
Anyone else out there have any shopping tips you want to share? I'm always looking for new ways to save.
Michaels arts and Craft has offered alot of cheap deals too
Michaels arts n craft store is offering alllllll sorts of coupons and percentages off of this and that, even local stores giving out local coupons to draw in customers on sunday nights. Sunday night hours were extended from 10am-7pm to 10am-9pm (moonlight madness sales) to try and boost sales for a few weeks. Its very very VERY apparent, every store is now on the line.
I was just in Michaels yesterday
and there were no coupons in sight, and the clearance prices on a few things weren't low enough to bother with. Still no good deals in this town. I'm being persecuted.
over here its buy 1 big mac
over here its buy 1 big mac get the second Free
I have noticed Kijiji is booming
Since people have begun to lose their jobs it seems that many people are posting all their stuff for sale on kijiji.com I hate to think I'm taking advantage of a persons desperation but they have some great deals and maybe I am helping them to pay a gas bill or something. I've bought three new guitars in the last two months on there.
It's not taking advantage
if it's an agreeable deal between 2 people....It's not like you're scamming them.
They offer to sell, you offer to purchase, you both agree on a price. Square deal. No guilt.
You are correct...
I don't look at it as "Taking Advantage". Maybe you are helping somebody pay a bill. I have never looked at this site?? What is it? Ebay type or Craigslist type. I am going to check it out now...but maybe you could give me some advice.
Kijiji
Is just a free place to post ads and to sell things . It's popular since it doesn't require a registration , credit card , or anything. You can post your phione number and have people just call you or use their e-mail system . It's an amazing and free to sell ad site.
Thank you
That is a cool site...never seen it before. I am furnishing my house in Costa Rica.....and this is perfect!
Satan here..
Now take some fashion advice, my darlings. Never go cheap.
And`wear heels ladies..They will make your legs look like a thoroughbreds and the deriere will get the best lift . That's what they are made for.
A sale is a sale. But it's all in how you work it in the end. (sigh)
-----------------------
Get in line. No pushing, no shoving. All souls are taken one at a time, in the order in which they are recieved.
Thank you.
Where's Satan!!??
Where's Satan!!??
HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

OMG that's CRAZY!
We are SOOOOo gonna have a McFries experiment at our house! The kids will just love this one.
Thanks!
I have
never seen these. Thanks!! The first one is incredible. Why don't the fries ever decay? That is crazy. I will never touch that garbage again. I usually never eat that crap...but once in a while, I will have a Big Mac and fries like I would treat myself to an Ice cream...HAHAHAHAHA Never again!!
Oh well, so much for considering fast food in
the future. I was warned.

Eat that garbage for awhile
And you don't need to worry about anything except what your tombstone will say. Have you seen the movie "Super Size Me"?
Here it is in full.....this guy eats McDonalds every day for a month and it almost kills him. The doctors advise him to stop!! A must see.

McDonald's is...
YUCKY!
I have noticed...
a heck of a lot of yard sales signs going up all over town.
The good deals around here
ceased in 2007. Several years ago Walmart used to put gardening things on end-of-summer clearance for as low as 25 cents, and now all those things don't even go on sale, ever. We used to make deals with the manager for an extra discount on pallets of leftover clearance bricks, but no more. The bricks don't even go on sale, they just disappear. Macy's used to offer an extra 60% off of clearance items, but now it's down to 40%. I'm not finding clothes at Macy's for 85% off like I used to until this year. Good thing I bought 4 or 5 years worth of clothes when I had a chance (now I can't gain weight, ha!). There are no discounts at any restaurant in town.
A Macy's employee said that sales here are still good, but there is nothing in the storage area, like there used to be.
I've been stocking up on craft things and books so I'll have something to do while I'm hiding under my sofa.
You should not have to worry about weight
if you can hide under your sofa. I am pretty thin but can not do that.
I gotta cheap FUV
Payed $2250 for a slightly older 18' vancab Chinook RV with a dodge 360. A year ago they were going for double and triple that but since I guess folks are tightening their wallets and can't afford the fuel costs RV's are being dumped for cheap. Now i'm looking for a good solar panel or two to put on the roof. About half a dozen batteries to stuff in the generator compartment and possibly an HHO generator if I can get validation of their practicality.
Then I'm going to close out my apartment and have a fire sale. If things get really bad I'm driving to Nicaragua. Until then I'm gonna live like a gypsy.

thats is so funny, I'm feeling ya
I have been fantasizing about doing the same thing. Closing down my house (I rent) and heading out on the road.....but what if there is marshal law-no way over the border...what if there is anarchy-are the streets safe...what if there is a gas shortage-stuck like chuck and where.... whoa is me. I have been scouring craigslist for a good RV-smaller van type for over a year. any suggestions? I dont think Americans will be too popular in South America when the collapse of our dollar causes the collapse of theirs...there is NO safe place to hide this one out. But for my children I wouldn't worry a bit.

Unless your on a trouble maker list,
When marshall law comes around or is about to be instituted, my advice, get a sailboat and have it ready/live on it.
Take some sailing lessons, buy a 35ft or larger, refit is with wind gen, Solar Panel, Water desalinator, and 4-6 months of toiletries, canned goods, Meds, Survival stuff, OH YEAH spear gun and dont skimp out on the fishing and snorkeling equipment.
Sail boats are the equivalent to Canadians, They can travel all around, no attention or hassles brought to them. If they harrass you, say your going to FL. Then jump to the bahamas.
You would be supprised of all the things and how cheaply you can live on a sailboat. Eating tons of seafood, I also sugguest tons of beer, and cigarettes. Great for barter down island..
I HAVE ALREADY done this and now sailed down to the Dominican republic. The LAST place the Us would invade. Unless they are in short supply of good looking women;)
The only bad thing about this place, is it is downwind of Puerto Rico. If a nuke hit PR, the fallout would come this way.
IS NOWHERE SAFE? lol
I spent quite some time . . .
hanging out in the Caribbean. Oh my, when I think back at the completely insane time I had down there. I absolutely love Puerto Rico. I spent some time wandering around the rain forest. I think it is a great place to go if all hell breaks loose, just for the beauty of it. When I was there 20 years ago St. Thomas, USVI had a crime rate per person higher than the city of New York. You won't escape crime or for that matter the US military. I was down there during the Golf War and military ships were down there protecting one of the biggest oil refineries in the hemisphere on a neighboring island. I remember hanging out with the military scuba divers (the guys that would fix the damaged underside of a ship). I'm a certified diver and spent day and night diving. We also went Island (or sandbar) hopping by way of boat. I used to dive with a guy that had a t-shirt that said "we invaded this" with an arrow pointing to a hardly visible speck on a map - Granada.
I'm all for bailing out if all hell breaks loose. I've made sure my kids speak more than one language. My kids are used to traveling.. They would adapt. I'm okay with living in a grass hut and fishing. My one son would love nothing more than to live in the middle of nowhere. He loves fishing more than anything. He's good at it. I'm okay with homeschooling if I had to do it.
That's what my brother is
That's what my brother is doing. He's got a 46' motor sailor. I tried to tell him to get it out of Lake Union though in case they shut the locks down.

"The LAST place the Us would
"The LAST place the Us would invade." US invaded the Dominican Republic in 1965. We continue to have a military base there, as usual.
Partially correct
To say we invaded the dominican republic, is to say the soviets invaded afghanistan. In american historian eyes, both were invasions. In truth we were INVITED. The Soviets were INVITED also, by the pro soviet ruling elite Of Afghanistan. BOTH were aledgedly to restore ORDER.(Whatever def that may be)
As for a base, HMM, wouldnt call it that. The US has a Hangar and some personel as an ATTACHMENT to the embassy. I will check to see if there is anything else and get back to you on this thread.
Besides, ever hear the saying " Been there DONE THAT"
I will correct my original post to say AGAIN.
Think about spending time
All hunkered down during marshal law. You will need to have a Rig that would accommodate you and any one else you have along during that time. You would need to keep your RV dark, no sound or light escaping just in case someone is watching. What you are talking about is something called boon docking, do a search on the net. There are large groups of people living here and there full time. I have a bit of experience with this and have given it allot of thought. In the case of marshal law I would plan to hold tight and not move until I feel the world is more comfortable, get a ham radio. Your Rig will need to have food and water for how ever long you plan on staying dark. You will need to handle waste and manage power and food usage very well. There is allot to this lifestyle but it is fun and free as in free bird. If you want to talk more you can email me orabox@hotmail.com
thats what I am talking about
real solutions and scenerios. I am a gypsy at heart and have had thoughts of my ancesters and their own battles with freedom. Theirs was a hard cold reality. and I am here because they survived. Will I fair as well or wimp out and go to a REX camp mmmmmm.......I hate thinking about this but I love dreaming of experiencing America and all her glory from the front seat of a camper van. Burning man is calling...

My husband and I
have been looking for a used small RV with the bed and kitchen, too. LOL
Then we thought the same thing what if they close the road. I was just thinking if they closed the road maybe you could find a little side or back road to hide out until they clear away. I don't know paranoid I guess. I also thought about getting a jeep or 4 wheel drive and go off road. My neighbor said that may not work because of satellite tracking, Decisions, decisions.
Peace Patriot
Depends how you do it
There are many places you can hunker down, many states have BLM land you can stay for a long time. There are commercial parts of the city that will not be bothered if you park for the night or a week or two depending on the conditions. One thing is if they close the roads and you are stuck it would be best for you to be in another state than the state your rig is registered in. This will allow you to play the tourist card and tell the military or UN troops that you were on your way home to X when this all happened and that you are scared. That would prolly be better than nothing. We are about two weeks from launching to St Paul. We move slowly a few hundred miles a day and plenty of days off so we give ourself lots of time. If we get caught up in a mess (Something Big), that is what we will do, go dark listen to the ham radio, make a decision as to where to go next.
That used to be my thought
That used to be my thought but i decided to go with the RV and bump my Explorer. Check out the "Rialta". Pretty slick rig for a couple.

Well if it's just for you
Well if it's just for you and maybe a dog or two like me then a smaller than 20ft. rig is adequate. You'll get better fuel economy with a 318 but you won't have the same tow capacity. If that isn't an issue for you then go with a 318. If you score a really good B class camper van you can get them with a straight 6 and that would be the best fuel economy, but the roof top real estate is limited if you want to put solar panels on the roof. Don't waste your time with a generator with today's fuel costs. 6 to 8 batteries and a buff alternator will work just fine. If you get solar panels make sure it's better that 120 amp output. 100 is okay but I recommend 120 or better
Craigslist: "campervan", "B class", "chinook", "sportsman", "tradesman", conversion van"
Some of these B class rigs actually go for more than a vehicle my size. Mine is a little bit bigger but not by much.
Decide what you want to spend and do not exceed that amount. I had decided many months ago I would not spend more than $2500 and looked everyday for nearly a year watching the economy circle the drain waiting for prices to fall.
I think what's important is not being in the city and being flexible. I have a friend in Nicaragua now working as a Naturalpathic doctor and one going down as soon as he pays off his jeep. There was a major push some time ago to purchase Costa Rican property but it's getting pretty run out. The Nicaraguans seem to be relatively accepting of Americans but every now and again you have to leave to Costa Rica and come back.
I'm also working on a steam-powered-burn-barrel-generator/water heater. lol If we all have to run we can try to hook up with one another and pull our resources together. Chance favors the prepared mind and like minded individuals will do far better than those fighting the police state in the inner city. Even if we can't leave the country we'll be far better off if we eventually coalesce around the same goals with the same ideals.
Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.

And another thing... the dodge 318 will take dodge 360 heads. Hot rodder will sometimes use RV engines because the RV spec accommodates those types of mods.

...is selling 2G laptops for 400 frn and 3G for 5. The CPI is still too high for most folk I know.
What is "WallyWorld"?
What is CPI? There doesn't seem to be any "deals" around here. Just the usual sales.

I'm all over this one.
Bought food storage containers last week at an outlet place. Good quality stuff that'll last for many years.
Also cookware that can be used on the stove, in the oven, on the BBQ pit, even on a direct fire....Sweet deal on it, too. And it should last decades if used and cleaned properly.
All of this stuff over 70% off.
Picked up some great clothes as well. Sturdy stuff that will last a while: denim, heavy twill, etc. Have several pairs of work boots so didn't buy more (and found no good shoe deals anyway). I'm in the south so we worry more about dying of heat stroke than freezing....No parkas needed so just stocking up on general clothing.
The only big question is what sizes kids will need later so I'm just picking up things here and there in different sizes when the price is right (90% off or more).
Funny thing: I'm not seeing any great deals on guns or ammo right now....Wonder why? (sarcasm)
For those stocking up on food and household goods: Every single week I get items for free....And lots more for almost nothing. Take the time to match up the weekly store ads with the coupons and you'll be amazed at what you can find. We cut our grocery/household item spending by over half.....And that still includes buying extras to have on had for hard times (stockpiling sounds so extreme, doesn't it?). Many stores will let you combine their store coupons with mfg coupons; Also stay tuned to those stores that will double or triple mfg coupons...You can really "clean up" on occasion using that method. For the lazy at heart (like me) there are online services that do all the matching for you so you don't have to spend hours doing it yourself.
Remember, pay cash...IMHO if you're going into debt to buy those "great deals" then it's probably not the deal for you.
Happy bargain hunting!
the only complaint I have
the only complaint I have against my wife is that she is just not as thrifty as you ladies!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
aldi food stores have good quality items very cheap
ground beef 1.99lb taste great-not the chicken though. ALL their fruits are excellent and very cheap. Shaved 40$ off my weekly food bill and eating healthy with the fruits and vegis.
"Ideas have consequences." Ron Paul
You got that right!!!
I forgot to mention the great deals on Furniture right now!! Nobody is buying furniture. You can go into a furniture store right now and just low ball them!! It is crazy. They will sell it below cost just to generate some cash flow.
Now I understand that we are going into a bad economic time, but I needed a nice couch to hide under when SHTF. LOL
I forgot to mention
that at a number of stores I asked about coupons and discounts......All but 1 gave me a least an extra 10% off (the best deal was 20% extra). Various schemes like signing up for their mailing list or their "frequent shopper" cards. One store clerk rang stuff up like I had a 20% off coupon (even though I didn't). Sure was worth asking about!!
better not hide we need you on the front lines
but you can always burn the couch for heat this winter...lol
