The economy going sour provides an opportunity for consumer activism

I recall when i was younger there was an attempt by some groups to promote "voting" with your dollar. Unfortunately, the truth was, this wasn't a very effective strategy.

Well, times have changed, and with the economy as lean as it is, consumer activism can make a real difference. A concerted attempt to boycott companies that have unethical practices and a drive to support good companies could lead to a more ethical capitalism.

For example, why not avoid garment manufacturers who use foreign sweatshop labor? Avoid businesses like the Gap and Nike, and buy American. Instead of Coke and pepsi, how about RC cola? I don't know about places like Costco and Price club, but surely they are better then Walmart? And of course, there are still plenty of local merchants and mom and pop stores who are surely more deserving of business then mammoth changes run by global corporations. What do you think?

I agree John.... especially

I agree John.... especially try to stay away from the fascist multi national corporations like proctor and gamble... any company that donates big money to both sides of the election.. all they are doing is buying favor and unjust laws against competition.. very good Idea.. if we could get our 3 or million people who support Ron Paul to do this, we could do some damage!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

I buy American, I also

I buy American, I also boycott all of the big 6 media companies, 4 are on the CFR including GE the largest defense contractor. CDs and DVDs don't get used up like gasoline so we can retroactively boycott these media companies. Look through your collection and see which DVDs and CDs you have are from the big six Viacom, News Corp, Sony, GE, Disney, and Time Warner and their subsidiaries, set them aside, and take them up to a used book/DVD store or sell them on craigslist or ebay and use the money to buy food and ammo. Film yourself selling them if you like and put the video on the file-sharing sites.

I also only get movies and music from smaller companies like Lionsgate, Weinstein, Palm Pictures, Thinkfilm, IFC, etc.

Here’s the list
