How hard is it to get Dual Citizenship?
Does anyone on the DP have Dual Citizenship? If things get REALLY
bad maybe this could be an option for my two sons. Any information is appreciated. Are there any countries that are not fascist or communist? Thanks, Peace

how to disappear

Hmmm, maybe I
should try and find them jobs overseas. I wonder if that would work? If they had visas would that keep them safe? Peace
Well....
You could certainly look into exchange programs for school overseas, and certainly if they have a skill and could get a job and a work visa it would keep them out of the US for quite a while. My feeling is that although NO country is going to be completely out of the realm of global government (assuming they win...... which I optimistically doubt)..... the US is going to be where lots of the really bad action is for a while, and it is always the young people that get used for cannon fodder.
My husband tells me that anything having to do with mining of precious metals (from the geologists to the heavy machinery operators) are in great demand all over the world and are paid very well! The companies provide the visas and housing, etc.
I understand your quandary, and think this is a worthwhile investigation. I am already thinking of these things for my grandchildren to see if I can help them out of harms way until the forces of evil are routed from the US. Best of luck and keep the faith. Freedom will win...... after a while.....but that while is what we worry about for our kids and grandkids.
Thanks, for the info.
I have not approached my sons with this and not sure if they will listen to me but as a mom I am starting to feel desperate. One has a computer science degree and the other is working on a mechanical engineering degree I think he has about 7 or 8 more classes to graduate. I have a bad feeling he won't be able to finish. I will look into your suggestions. Peace Patriot
My advice: cut back your time spent here
Make sure they know how to manage their money, make friends, negotiate deals, be a contributing member of society. These skills will help them anywhere.
I, too, am concerned about the economy and the direction of our country: I've been very concerned especially for the last 35 years.
Far better to keep them close where you can look out for each other than to send them somewhere else: the grass may seem greener, but in reality, the price of freedom is eternal and global vigilence. No place is "safe."

Given U.S. law, it is not supposed to be possible, but then
John McCain's immigration advisor (or outreach director) Paul Hernandez maintains dual citizenship, or so he says.
For an immigrant to legally obtain U.S. citizenship, under current U.S. law, they are supposed to denounce any alligence to any foreign regime or country. However, there are a number of people who proudly shout their dual citizenship in the U.S. as well as another country. How that's legally possible is quite beyond my understanding. Mexican law, for instance, allows people immigrating from Mexico into the U.S. to retain their citizenship status in Mexico. The U.S. does essentially nothing about this.

Actually....
It is NOT true that you cannot be a dual citizen. Some OTHER countries may not allow dual citizenship and that may be where the US / UK problem lies, but there was a Supreme Court case in the US (don't remember when) where this issue was decided and the US allows dual citizenship.
I know that up until the 1990's Sweden made you chose at age 18, but now they allow dual as well. And Mexico only started allowing dual in the 90's as well. So it depends on the country. This is a HUGE project to research, but if you've got the time there are options. But as I mentioned before, unless you have megabucks, it will no doubt require a long residency period first. MAYBE your boys can go live in another country and MARRY a person from that country. That makes things MUCH easier.... of course it's not exactly a great reason for marriage!
It is not possible anymore
I looked in to this a year ago. They have changed the laws to make it one or the other. In fact I have friends that were dual that had to chose between the UK or the US. Immigration is becoming an increasingly scary and risky deal. I have a few friends that married foreigners. They are under constant threat of half of the family being deported. We're talking marrying Canadians and English here.
So I say all of that to wish you goodluck!
It depends
I did it by marriage as well as having a trade in structural design and engineering made it easier to become a canadian citizen but I didn't renounce my US status so I stay in michigan but I also have a small office/retreat in Windsor Ontario.
It's easier to become canadian than it is to become U.S. You basically just need a sponsor of sometype and Marriage is immediate although you still need to update a work Visa every 6 months. It becomes the sponsors responsibility to ensure that you will not apply for welfare for 10 years and after 2 years you can apply for landed status.
I used to think Canada would
be a safe place but after hearing about people being sent back to the US my feeling is that when we turn into a fascist state they will too. Hope I'm wrong.

Pretty tough
Unless you are RICH and can buy your way to a second citizenship in countries like Switzerland, or perhaps Dominica, you pretty much have to LIVE in your new country for anywhere from 5 - 10 years and go through all of the processes of residency, etc. Now it IS easier to disappear while living as a foreigner in a country, but eventually they will need to renew their US passport if they have not achieved a new country's passport, and at that point they must be ready to "announce" where they are. But if they have a new passport, and therefore 10 years to "hide" MAYBE by that time things will be better in the US and they will have beaten the game. If they are of age and want to LIVE in another country and go through the process (and pay the multitude of fees), then they should investigate this on sites such as Sovereign Society, or Escape Artist. They list various features of all the different countries and the pros and cons of living in them. Hope this helps. There are no simple answers.
