Evangelicals Warn Against Romney on Ticket
And so it has come to this:
outputProminent evangelical leaders are warning Sen. John McCain against picking former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as his running mate, saying their troops will abandon the Republican ticket on Election Day if that happens.
They say Mr. Romney lacks trust on issues such as outlawing abortion and opposing same-sex marriage and because he is a Mormon. Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year.
"McCain and Romney would be like oil and water," said evangelical novelist Tim LaHaye, who supported Mr. Huckabee. "We aren't against Mormonism, but Romney is not a thoroughgoing evangelical and his flip-flopping on issues is understandable in a liberal state like Massachusetts, but our people won't understand that."

Hmmmm.... How very interesting ?
I wonder how many Romny delegets will be at the convention.
I have to say it! the
I have to say it! the "evangelicals" are very very very stupid!
as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD
Oh, for crying out loud.
Like McCain isn't enough of a reason for Evangelicals to sit this one out already?

i don't know about ANYTHING....
i can't make such blanket statements about who is going to be what after fourteen months of all of THIS.
THIS being......understanding what the hell is going on in our country and the rest of the world - even if only on a small level....
Dittos for me.

tycoon VPs
Reminds me of the old campaigns where the VP typically was chosen because he was one of the richest men in America. VP was often for sale, much as ambassadorships or a night in the Lincoln bedroom are now.
So the Stain can pick Romney who might toss in $50M since he spent more than that on the primary. But doing so would cost him a bunch of Huckabee's crazed neocon blood-and-guts evangelicals.
HA!
HA!
They act like Mormons aren't socially conservative, when in fact, they are probably even more so/the most socially conservative out of all the Christians....
I don't like Romney, but it has nothing to do with him being Mormon. It has everything to do with his flip-flopping on issues, his record, and former liberal leanings...
To me, Romney is the kind of politician who will do or say anything to be in power. I have no idea what to expect from him or what he really believes in... I'm not even sure he knows himself.
One of my biggest gripes with Romney...
is he is way too Corporate America, and look what that has gotten us, especially with our government. I am all for Capitalism, but not when it comes to the CEOs of companies using we the tax payers/citizens, and our elected officials as pawns in order to make their fortunes.
I love the media's usage of
I love the media's usage of "evangelicals". It's almost in the same tone as "the free masons", or "the black panthers" or some such.
I asked several "evangelicals" in our office if they cared.
They couldn't give a crap about Romney. They don't even agree with each other on who should have won the nomination.
More collectivist thinking...it's very important to the media. Apparently.
Is it possible we can
Is it possible we can convert these guys???
I sincerely doubt it... too
I sincerely doubt it... too much of the Christian movement doesn't even fully embrace the Christian message anymore. If they did, they would have been with us from the beginning. Now their judgment is clouded by irrelevant/non religious issues.... they don't even focus on the things that important, and they no longer approach issues with true Christian philosophy.
No, the Evangelical Christian block is more about the Republican Party than Christianity.
Ponder this...
hmm, I wonder - you know there seems to be a lot of chaos on both sides of the isle this year- the hillary camp setting out to vote for McCain, the evangelicals voting against Rommy- I wonder if they (evangelicals) could be persuaded to vote with the Constitution Party- you know somehow get them to side with Baldwin (he's a pastor after all), parse them into a third party and remove them from McCain altogether- it would serve to weaken the Republican support even further if it could happen... just a thought...
If they can be convinced that Chuck Baldwin ...
has a chance, I would think so. Many still care about integrity-and Huckabee has little. He was on Judicial Watch's Top 10 corrupt politicians list.

as a Conservative Christian myself, I think
IF we truely cared about integrity we would all be for Ron Paul. But the Church has compromised so far on the message of "not by might , not by power, but by MY spirit, Says the LORD", that she can't see a true Christian right in front of her nose.
That having been said, most of the (thinking) Christians I know are still for Ron Paul. and think he is the candidate with the most integrity.

Church & State
What I like about Ron Paul is that he keeps his religion to himself, in the spirit of the Constitution.
I may be wrong, but I've never seen him mix religion with government and politics.
I like that,too
I'd rather see him live it out than try to force his beliefs on others through the arm of the state. Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips
So the troops won't abandon
So the troops won't abandon the Republican ticket if McInsane is the presidental candidate, but will if Romney is the veep? Nahhh, won't happen. After all, the Democrats are "evil" - we can't have one for president!
Though I'm only 21, I've seen it before. Evangelical leaders saying, "We won't vote for so-and-so", but then urging support for them because the other side is considered "evil".
From watching politics and listening to what my father says, I believe that most of the time a neo-con Republican will be worse than a neo-con Democrat, as the conservative wing falls asleep when there is a Republican majority or president. Rock-a-bye, baby....
You've got it right, Katie!
My husband has always had the same theory, and look at the mess good ol' "conservative Christian" George Bush has led us into! By the way, I am a conservative Christian and therefore this bothers me a lot!
They used the wrong analogy.
They used the wrong analogy. Mcain and Romney are not like oil and water. They are like depleated uranium and depleated uranium. The exact same toxic sludge and both are flip floppers. Everything they said about Romney could be said about McCain. Blind fools. If it weren't for the fact that a McCain presidency would equal disaster for the world, I would wish that he gets elected so they will have to experience first hand just how terrible he is
what on earth?
I thought doc Dobson and co. already shot their wad saying they would sit home if it was McCain. Just cross this line! Well...no, no, Just cross THIS line! Well...
If you're gonna sit home, why'ont ya just rack up a little credibility and do it.
And McC IS TRUSTWORTY??!!!
Who are they trying to fool? McC told the liberal voters he voted FOR the liberal Supreme Court judges that are pro-abortion!
Oh sure...
"Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year."
What are the 1.2 million+ Ron Paul supporters then? Chopped liver?
