I have been reading tons of books lately about history, economics,
philosophy. Been thinking about what is really destroying America.
I think the number one cause of our inexorable descent into destruction is caused by the breakdown in our morals both as a culture and as individuals. I just read a book called "Torn Apart" by Diony George.
Very good, well written, non-fiction book in novel form about how porn destroyed her family. Made me think about the total breakdown of values, decency and morality we are undergoing. I am sure her experiences are not the exception but more the norm. God has been kicked out of our schools and replaced with indoctrination by the state. Immorality is everywhere and accepted as the norm. Porn is everywhere and easily accessible by anyone who wants it.
The family is the root of our society, or used to be. Now it is under attack from all sides and the traditional "american" family is almost a thing of the past. Debt, taxes, inflation, and pornography are destroying the family unit. Not sure how much time we have left before we get past the point of return just like the romans. Our empire is collapsing and we are under assault from all sides.
So many things we need to fight against it is almost overwhelming.
I fear for what my kids will grow up to endure.

Okay, here's the problem
Government support of corporate programs. It's fascism to use tax dollars to promote corporate social programs (like FCC censorship, or abortion). It might seem crazy, but FCC censorship promotes things like pornography. Just like prohibition or war on drugs causes more of the stuff the government is trying to limit.
Look at the paradigms we're being forced to endure-the government watching over us is good and the media whores are bad. Neither is completely true or false because the individuals within those organizations is the core of the problem and using our money to promote social programs that impinge on our freedoms is wrong.
In a free society immoral programs are not supported by the majority of people-they have better things to do.

Out of those four there are two we can do nothing about: taxes and inflation. Debt and pornography are choices people make just like drug addiction, food addiction or any other excessive habit that brings about their demise.
Personal responsibilty has died in this country - remember the girl who asked Ron Paul during the MTV discussion how he would support her birth control needs? indeed we are well on our way. Porn is an addiction for some. I believe people should be free to live their own lives, but not to the point that it infrenges on others. I guess my point is sex should be private. Folks are out in the streets screaming about their "prefrence" of partners...hey, that's personal isn't it...it used to be. The day children enter public school, they are sexualized. Sex is in their faces daily through advertising on TV. You don't have to buy Hussler or Playboy anymore, just visit myspace and you'll see all the skin you want.

...that porn is destroying America. There are those in any population who have a propensity for addiction, be it alcohol, gambling, sex, etc....and yes, porn has most-likely destroyed some marriages and relationships.
I also STRONGLY-STRONGLY-STRONGLY disagree with your presumption that religious people, or church-goers, or christian/judeo folks are far better morally than those of us who are not. (Did I mention the word 'strongly'?) Of all the dishonest scumbags I've dealt with over the years in business or met casually, I think it's fair to say 75% of them were hiding behind an aire of being a "good christian" and had a "jesus fish" on the back of their minivan. I believe the downfall of American culture as we know it today, can be traced to a single event from the early 80s. A black boy was charged with murdering a neighbor kid in Miami...and his defense lawyer, Ellis Ruben, was able to sell the jury that the violence on TV MADE HIM DO IT!!! That the kid wasn't responsible for his actions...and the idiot jurors bought it, adn aquitted him! ..and from that day forward, no one has been responsible for their own actions. Nothing you do wrong is your fault. Can you imagine stealing a car at 15 or 16? I would beg them to put me in jail so my parents couldn't get ahold of me!! It is an absurd assumption that only religion or religious people are somehow the only moral human beings. I am agnostic and I can tell you that I have higher morals and ethics than many people that practice religion. I don't need a god or a diety to tell me how to behave well in society. I treat people the way I would want to be treated. All throughout history religious people have been corrupt and immoral. All throughout history non religious people have been corrupt and immoral.
It is also absurd to blame our collapsing country on pornography. I have looked at some form of porn since a school boy and well before the age of the internet. Since when is sex or sexual images so inhumane? How bout we just ban all pornography and sex. I bet the New World Order would love that idea since the population would decrease over night. Lets just legislate sex to the point that we no longer procreate and become extinct. Yeah that would be a wonderful idea. There are countless reasons why our country is being destroyed. How bout our government being unconstitutional? Pornography whether you like it or not is a freedom. As long as nobody gets hurt, killed, or possessions stolen then porn is another freedom that should not be infringed upon. If you don't like porn then don't look at it. What would be the point if there is no life after this in which we will be judged and held accountable for our actions in this life? We would do whatever feels good and whatever we can get away with. Why obey a law? Why help others? Why not steal something if you know you can get away with it? Why not cheat on your wife if she will never find out?
You are an agnostic? Why? Take a stand. Why not be an atheist? To maintain God is unknowable is a reflection on you. You either don't want to know or are afraid to acquire that knowledge which will require you to act differently.
If you really want to know if God exists the path is there in front of you to take.

I have prayed and I have received a spiritual confirmation through the power of the Holy Ghost that God is real. Jesus Christ is his Son who came to this earth to redeem all people through his atonement and that through following him and trying to emulate his example we can experience happiness and joy in this life and the next. I don't think that. I don't believe that. I KNOW that. Anyone who is sincere in their desire to know the truth, through prayer can also gain that same knowledge.
However because God gave us all the gift of agency we are free to accept, reject and even to deny. But, denial doesn't change the reality of His existence, only ones ability to truly benefit from that knowledge.
I never said or suggested porn should be legislated against by our overbearing and totally corrupt government. Merely suggested that it is a powerful symptom of this countries decline. Even more than I was aware. I had just finished reading the book I cited and learned how it destroyed a whole family. Can't have a free society when most of the people in it are immoral. Porn is not victimless. It is about exploitation, and degradation. It cheapens intimacy and makes a mockery of God's plan for us.

that 10-15 yrs. ago, porn shops were few & far between. The ones you did see were little, dingy holes-in-the-wall where mostly creepy older folks (mostly men), lurked around, & there were NO hot chicks shopping there.
Today's porn shops are like a Wal-Mart. Big, bright, & lots of people strolling around w/ arm baskets looking at perverted items the same way they would browse for clothes. Porn may be old but it is nowhere near as mainstream as it is today.

This is not a rebuttal of your post, I merely wanted to address this statement of yours,
After everything I've researched, the number one American enemy is the private Federal Reserve bank that imposes the largest tax to Americans through inflation and charges our government interest on the money it prints out of thin air. It is robbing America of it's wealth and in direct proportion, it's freedoms. The less wealth there is to go around, the more people will fight over things.
This is the root of all problems, because it results in enslaving the people, not only through tax, but in encouraging legislation to pass that would not otherwise - if it was known the money for it could not merely be printed up. If we knew we could not just print up money, we would not so easily go into trillion dollar wars either and a whole slew of other issues that require government funding.
Americans should unite behind abolishing the Federal Reserve before any other issues, which are minor in comparison. With the Federal Reserve gone and the fruits of the people's labor back in their pockets, people could live much happier lives and focus more on what really matters, such as family.

The problem with our country is not...
the availability and access to porn. I'm 41 years old and I had a little collection of nudie books when I was a teenager. Guys passed stuff like that around when there was no internet.
The problem with our country in that regard is bad parenting. I know my sister is a Mormom, and they follow the Morman religion pretty faithfully, and they are excellent parents. Their house is paid for, they have money in the bank, and they own their cars. They don't drive a BMW, they have older reliable cars that they will drive til they won't go any more and then they will pay cash for another slightly used reliable, inexpensive car.
They live like my grandparents taught us to live. My parents were older when they had me, and my grandparents were very old when I was growing up. They came from the generation that came from poverty and struggled to get ahead and get out of the poor house. People today don't have much of that influence any more.
Parents should be responsible and keep tabs on their children. They should teach them proper values and life principles. They shouldn't rely on the society or the government to raise their kids. You cannot legislate morality. We've seen this with prohibition, the drug war, prostitution, etc. It just doesn't work and it costs tons of wasted money.
We need better parents... not more government control.

This is my third reply to you this evening, and I think it is because I actually like you. I want to share some secrets with you, and hopefully you will see the humor here. I encourage you to take these secrets with you, to give you a secret sense of smug superiority. Really!
I am sure by now you have had the experience of talking and talking until you are blue in the face, to someone who just does not “get it” about Ron Paul’s message. It almost seems like either they are somehow the slightest bit mentally dim, stubbornly choosing to not hear, brainwashed by the MSM, or some maddeningly mysterious mental “brain on” switch just isn’t getting flipped.
Here is where the secrets begin… Those “Christians” you apparently have come in contact with; either in your real life, or here on the DailyPaul blogsphere world, the ones that are always quoting scripture or lists of “rules” they appear to want to shove down everyone’s throats; (here is secret #1) they have missed the entire point of those “rules” being in the Bible. It is another one of those “sad but funny” things.
The whole point of having those rules in the Bible is to demonstrate that it is impossible for people to be good enough to impress God by following the rules for even two seconds! By posting all of those scripture verses and lists of rules, they are actually breaking the rules!
Secret #2 is that the Bible makes it totally clear that we have absolutely no power to “make” ourselves or anyone else a Christian. It is totally a God thing, and if someone acts superior due to his religion or is obnoxiously preachy, he has missed that fundamental point, and is, once again, breaking the rules!
If they act “good”, or “right”/”correct” or even “nice”, most likely they are trying too hard to play by the “rules” and aren’t allowing God to work through them, which is breaking the rules. You can tell that someone is doing things “right” when you can describe their actions using words like “grace”, “loving”, “kindness” “gentleness” and “humility”. That is evidence that God is working through them and in them. You know, like when they are acting like they just asked themselves, “What Would Ron Paul Do?”
Now that you know some secrets, I hope you don’t smack the “Christians” upside the head with them, because it won’t do any good. God has to fix them. (Some may even be totally mad that I told some of the secrets, and say that I got it all wrong. You are perfectly capable of deciding for yourself what you believe to be true.) We can talk until we are blue in the face and they just won’t get it. Just know that they are either dim, stubborn, brainwashed by wrong teaching, or maddeningly stuck in the “brain off” position. Chuckle to yourself and let it go.
