A new idea to direct our energy?

I had an idea that I thought I would share with the rest of you. I think this would be worthy for all of the meetup groups to take note of. When I see a McCain or Obama sign in the yard of a neighbor I want to tell them about Ron Paul but I feel silly since the election is over and, aside from national delegates, no one can vote for him now. But I remember that Dr. Paul always says it isn't the messenger, rather the message itself that draws people together. We all know how much enthusiasm that our message has incited. So I thought for a while how I could share our message with fellow neighbors and I finally came up with something. For now on, any time I happen to see an Obama or McCain sign I will pass out 25,50 or even 100 letters on the street of the sign. The letter will be a personal letter to potential voters and fellow citizens laying out why Obama and/or McCain is not the answer. I will explain my deep concern for the United States and why either Barr or Baldwin is forever better than McBama. I am going to tell them about the Campaign For Liberty and then give them my e-mail address and our group website. Hopefully the recipients of the letters will see an ordinary, frustrated, concerned citizen with an earnest effort to explain why Obama or McCain is not the answer and we can draw more members to our group and our movement will expand. This should be our mission until November. Whenever you see the McBama signs out, find some free time and leave 25, 50, or even 100 letters on that street. I think this will be a great way to build a coalition of potential voters that will be on our side next election cycle. Our movement has the most organized grassroots effort today and this will be a great way to get more people to come with us! Let me know what you think:

Greetings potential voters and fellow citizens,

You may or may not choose to read this letter. Ultimately, it is up to you to choose whether or not this upcoming election cycle will be more of the same. I am writing this letter to you merely as a concerned citizen. I have set out on a personal mission in this particular election season to tell 25 households about the message of true liberty, freedom and prosperity for each sign in support of either John McCain or Barack Obama. Hopefully this letter will allow me to reach many more. The reason I am doing this is because I believe that my message, the freedom message and ultimately the message of our founding fathers is 25 times as important and needed as either John McCain or Barack Obama.
Currently, the state of our Republic is at stake. We have a war that has lasted two years longer than WWII, our economy is in bad shape, civil liberties are eroding, and the constitution is being ignored when adherence to its guidelines is needed most. Now most Americans must decide between two candidates that, although on the surface look different, are the same. Each candidate offers no solution to the dreadful foreign policy that has ruined America’s reputation around the world. In other words, neither Barack Obama nor John McCain wants to address the fact that our troops are spread all over the world acting as a global police force. Neither candidate wants to address the interventionist policy, both foreign and domestic, that continues to erode the freedoms of each American. While Barack Obama claims he wants to stop the intervention in Iraq he would like to intervene in the lives of Americans through increased taxes, more government regulation, and an increase in the size and scope of the federal government. He, like John McCain, will continue to say what he needs to in order to get elected. This is done at the cost of our liberty, our values, and our constitution. On the other hand, John McCain, although sincere, is running on a platform of American imperialism and loss of American sovereignty. Although he may not have as many plans to meddle in American citizens affairs, he has plenty of plans to continue the failed foreign policy (interventionism) of most presidents of the 20th century. What I am leading up to is the point that neither candidate has the interest of liberty, freedom, or our values. In offering a solution, voters must first understand their civic duties. When considering a presidential candidate you must vote for the candidate who upholds the oath of office that they will take: I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. If a candidate offers anything to us that will not preserve, protect and defend the constitution then any consideration should be eliminated.
The question may be asked, “Who then should I place my vote for if neither Barack Obama nor John McCain will uphold the constitution?” Two major 3rd parties are answering that question. The Constitution party and the Libertarian party both have candidates for president. For the Constitution party Chuck Baldwin is running for the office of president and for the Libertarian party Bob Barr. You may already have the immediate argument that neither party has a true chance to win but if you are to carry out your civic duty that argument is insignificant. I encourage you to consider either candidate as they will certainly uphold our constitution much more than either of the two other candidates. You can learn more about Bob Barr at www.BobBarr2008.com and more about Chuck Baldwin at www.Baldwin08.com
Some of you may, upon learning the message of freedom, become energized and want to take an active role in preserving liberty. I have the answer for you: The Campaign for Liberty. The mission of the Campaign for Liberty is to promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity. You can sign up with the local Amarillo chapter campaign for liberty by going to www.ronpaul.meetup.com/22.... We have monthly meetings every 2nd Thursday of the month. Currently membership is at about 60. I invite you to join our group and to attend a meeting. You can find out more about the national campaign for liberty by going to www.campaignforliberty.co....
Lastly, I hope that my earnest effort to inform you about the folly of considering voting for either John McCain or Barack Obama will at least give you a chance to cast your vote in a responsible manner. If you have any questions, comments, or anything you would like to get in touch with me about you can e-mail me at campaignforlibertyamarillo@gmail.com. And if you made it this far I hope that you will be willing to protect your liberties, your rights, and your values by accepting my plea.

In Liberty,
Clint Townsend

It is a great way to identify actual voters...

Good idea.

I have a 1000 RP flyers that I don't know what to do with. Politically active people (people displaying signs and stickers) are definately a good target...and what's good is that they target themselves!

I'm not sure of the timing though...I kinda want to hang on to the flyers until November...to coincide with some Ron Paul voting event. Wow...that's just around the corner.

PS: Is being politically active like being sexually active? LOL

Ron Paul is the great uniter, the income tax fighter...the military-supported, defender of the border...the political apathy solution and the champion of the Constitution! Doctor Paul is on-call!

That...

doesn't sound bad either.

Survey

I live in a subdivision, and I walked around 40% of it during the campaign to pass out campaign literature.

Lately, I've considered coming up with a quick 10-15 question survey to give to those neighbors willing to take the time to complete it when they open the door and see my smiling face.

I do not plan to mention Ron Paul or the Campaign for Liberty specifically unless I get the feeling they're already open to our ideas. I just want to get a feel for who my neighbors are, their concerns, their skills, their willingness to speak up and let local, state, and federal government officials know where they stand on issues, etc.

I'll ask them if they want to stay in touch on the last question of the survey and probably try to get their e-mail address.

Things I've considered asking about on the survey:

-How often do they correspond with local/state representatives?
-How often do they correspond with national representatives?
-What are their feelings on the strength of the local/state economy?
-What are their feelings on the strength of the national economy?
-something about the consequences of growth in government
-something about inflation...
-something about the food supply...
-something about their skills, what are they good at? - can they fix things, can they make things
-What are their hobbies?
-Would they like to keep in touch and work towards a stronger neighborhood/community?

Can anyone else think of some good questions to add?

Anyone...

think this idea could go anywhere?
