The Importance of REAL Republican Support

Good evening, fellow Patriots! My name is Corie Whalen and I’m honored to be a new blogger here at The Daily Paul. I’ve been writing at The Ron Paul Beacon for a few months now, and am quite excited to begin contributing to this wonderful site as well. I’m a twenty-year old student from Boston who, like all of us, admires Dr. Paul for his integrity and intelligence. What initially attracted me to the Congressman however, was his novel idea that government officials are required to follow the standards outlined in our great Constitution. As a good friend of mine playfully noted, I am engaged in a torrid love affair with the most important document in our country’s history, and I can guarantee that you will often see that thematically exemplified in the majority of my writing.

As my involvement with the Boston Meetup Group has grown, I have begun to recognize that THE most important thing we can do as Ron Paul supporters is to help to increase our man's credibility within the Republican party. Although subjecting yourself to being the minority voice isn't always the most coveted role, I have learned that when rank and file Republicans meet REAL, intelligent Ron Paul supporters, they are far more open to him and his ideas.

A few weeks ago, after a Freedom March on nothing but the Freedom Trail itself, a couple of us headed over to Tufts University to man a Ron Paul booth at a Fall Convention held by the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans. Prior to the event on Saturday, I had been speaking with one of the main individuals heading up the conference. While he was himself a supporter of Fred Thompson, he was entirely gracious, stating that he was happy to see the Congressman represented - a very good sign considering the common label of "anti-party candidate" that Ron Paul has.

What I learned more than anything manning the Ron Paul booth at such an event was that there are simply many misconceptions that Republicans tend to have about Dr. Paul. An individual who was concerned that he was going to run as an independent or third party candidate if he did not get the Republican nomination approached me. I explained that he has said he does not plan on doing so, and immediately, the concerned Republican felt much better. He also wanted clarification on why Dr. Paul had said he would not necessarily support the Republican nominee, and I explained that Ron Paul's exceptional level of integrity would prevent him from subscribing to a set of ideas he did not believe in entirely. He was satisfied with that answer as well, but before speaking with us, had felt a little uneasy.

After the aforementioned initial exchange, I along with two other Ron Paul supporters from Boston, continued on a conversation with this individual for almost an hour. While we did not agree on everything, the conversation was very rewarding, and I thought it was encouraging to see that most established Republicans do agree with Ron Paul on many issues, and will further recognize this only if they are informed of it by US!

I know that it is impossible for us to reach every concerned Republican, but the truth of the matter is that most states have closed primaries. In Boston, we have been attempting to figure out how we can become Republican delegates and perhaps have some of us eventually attend the Republican National Convention next year. While the information is not always up to date and often times unavailable until the state party chooses to release it, it is important that we make our presence in our respective state parties noticed. This, of course, also leads into the fact that it is essential that us well-established supporters register Republican, even if our states have somewhat open primaries. When I do attend my first Republican Party meeting in Massachusetts as a Ron Paul supporter, I will certainly write about the experience. I have high hopes for the fact that I will be well received. Right now though, most of us are concentrating on New Hampshire, which obviously is a priority.

Hopefully, Ron Paul supporters across the nation have made legitimate attempts at understanding the processes necessary to become involved in their state's Republican Party. Other GOP contenders in this Presidential race have said that they are “Reagan Republicans”. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and not accuse them of necessarily lying, but if Republicans still are in favor of small government and personal accountability, a lot of them truly will be open to Ron Paul if they are shown that he IS in fact a legitimate and very serious candidate. I encourage all Ron Paul supporters to organize under a Republican label, because whether or not some of us like it, he IS running for the nomination of the Republican Party. I hope we do not lose sight of this fact. If we do, it will be at our own peril!

Jackson Hole

Corie, are you Jim and Bobbie's son? If so, (well, either way:)) I am thrilled to see that you are also a Ron Paul supporter! Way to go!

No ...

Well, no, because my parents are named Don and Jill and I'm also female :)

Oh well, keep up the good fight!

Well, I guess the factors you mentioned DO outweigh the name being the same. :)

Keep up the good fight!

Half of Republican Senators are Trotsky Trash

I agree that the Trotsky trash needs to be removed from the Republican Party.

Many of these guys get kickbacks (or in the case of Senator Craig are allowed to remain in office by their Democrat masters) for creating hidden earmarks for lavish socialist NGOs (special interest groups like the NOW).

Call the worthy Senator Coburn of Oklahoma and ask him about the $Billions in hidden earmarks that have been and are being passed as you read this that Americans never got to comment on much less have any hearings about. Ask him what you can do to help.

I would vote for Senator Coburn like I would Ron Paul. He is one of the remaining good guys from the old days.

Don't argue the war with the good people who, like myself were OK with getting rid of Saddam, etc. But let them know that real rights have been relinquished at home. That will get their attention.

It is not just the Patriot Act that interferes with a man's right to talk to his girlfriend or wife or parents about a warrant he might have received.

There are other laws like IMBRA that force Americans to have background checks just to be allowed to say hello to foreign women, which is a burden that doesn't even work logistically so people are prevented from meeting each other entirely.

A hidden clause in the VAWA allows a woman to move in with a man and then falsely claim abuse to win his house, his car and bank account...because males have no rights in today's court system.

The Republicans now agree with the Democrats that all men are would-be rapists and must be background checked just for being online (if the Ron Paul Revolution completely fails, the Internet will be regulated).

Ask other Republicans whether we need to be trying to undermine Muslim societies by supporting DC-based radical feminist groups that only tighten their grip on American society with the funds they get to do so.

absolutely!

The more we get involved in the GOP, the better our chances become.

It's really that simple.

Rebuild the GOP

I'll be left up to RP people to identify and take out the Trotsky trash element of the GOP. "Permanent Revolution" (called nation building today) to "Republic Restoration."

Campaign Documentary

What we need is a campaign documentary. Something that records history as it happens. Part - 1 The Early Days, Part - 2 Iowans for Tax Relief faux pas launches Campaign, Part 3 - The Early Rallies Part - 4 Mainstream Media Living in the Land of Oblivion, Part 5 - First Round of Debates, Part 6 - Ron Paul's Early Television Appearances, Part 7 - Momentous Days: End of Q3 and Beginning of Q4, Part 8 - First Tremors of a Political Earthquake: Independence Mall, Part 9 - Endorsements Flooding In, Part 10 - The Early Primaries.... etc.

Don't let the media run with it... get a head start.

The fine balance....

Hey, Corie, Welcome!

ok, boy do I get yer plight.

1. You can't alienate by being TOO iconiclastic
2. But you've gotta have SOMETHING to offer
3. So, NEW ideas, but within a framework of traditional values.

The good news is, Ron's like the perfect candidate with these restraints in mind.

I guess I would say - "The Republican Party didn't ALWAYS suck"

Hey, the party has been betrayed! The party of Goldwater, Reagan is now the party of {fill in the blanks. SO MANY HACKS and CRIMINALS}

go get 'em. I'm over here in the Bahamas. Yeah, it's nice but boy there's such soul-satisfying work to be done back in Mordor.

Good Luck,

Capn Mike

Corie:

You are an excellent writer and you will be a nice addition to :"Daily Paul"
I'm sure you now understand how difficult it is to get through to the Free Republic Crowd. They give no ground and like Sean and Rush fight like heck for their principles, which, of course, do not usually coincide with the supporters of Ron Paul including myself.

Be that it may we all will try to convert them over to being Ron Paul supporters; however, the odds are not in favor of accomplishing this.
With respect to Faux News, they have their fixations and it will be difficult to move them as well. For educational purposes their is an excellent documentary (I got it through my Netflix subscription) called "Outfoxed "and this pretty much tells the story on how things get spun on this Network.

Again, thanks for coming aboard, I look forward to continuing to read "The Beacon" and your various blogs on Daily Paul

FR is bogus

If you are having a normal discussion about the candidates and have too many good things to say about Ron Paul (all of which are true) you will be banned for being a 'troll'. I guess the good stuff got to be too much for the admin and this is my second time being banished from there. I don't think I said anything terrible, just a normal discussion back and forth, but the facts were looking too good for him I guess.

A clandestine suggestion

Perhaps you could use the cover of Reagan or Goldwater?

For example, "I don't think Reagan would have advocated this foreign policy. Afterall, he got us out of Lebanon when the irrationality of the Arabs became so obvious."

I guess what I'm saying is that you can troll around with Ron Paul's ideas without mentioning his name. Plant some seeds, some gentle reminders.

That does not work either

Tried it...you would think that with a name like FREE republic they might be a bit more interested in limited government-they appear not to be(I mentioned no war or foriegn policy) I thought people who loved leviathan had websites of their own...like dailyKos perhaps.
Mike Stahl

welcome aboard...

...and spread the word.

keep up the good work!

Thanks Corie!

Please don't wait. Attend as many Republican town and city meetings as you can and if you need materials I have them for you, just email me.

This is what I have been doing all summer -- boothing and GOP meetings. It is a job that MUST be done. The last GOP event I attended was a breakfast. It was not hard to carry in one small sign and a bag of stickers, buttons and about 4 varieties of flyers to put on half a table shared with another candidate. (They did not charge for tables so they had 4 or 5 holding all candidates' materials) Our stuff looked very beautiful next to the others, some of whom had nothing.
