Banning a substance

Is it constitutional for the federal government to ban any substance, whether it be a drug, money, metals, what ever. Can the federal government ban anything constitutionally or is it up to the state government to decide.

But I think it is not. As I understand it. But maybe someone else can verify it or have a different view.
