The Engel/Paul "Securing Our Borders and Our Data Act"
Washington, DC - Congressman Ron Paul is an original cosponsor of legislation introduced July 31st that would ensure that a traveler entering the United States would be subject to searches of their data and digital equipment only if a border agent has a reasonable suspicion to believe the traveler is or is about to be engaged in criminal activity.
In an August 1, 2008 front page story, the Washington Post exposed the ease with which the government can search and/or seize a traveler’s laptop, blackberry, or other electronic device. A border agent can require any individual to provide access to private or other sensitive data with no cause. They can require the owner to surrender their password for encrypted data as well.
“The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution acknowledges the right of the people to be secure in their persons and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. It is unfortunate that it takes legislation to remind border agents of this Constitutionally protected right, but it is apparent to me that HR 6702 is absolutely necessary,” stated Congressman Paul.

Securing our borders is good
"only if a border agent has a reasonable suspicion to believe the traveler..."
I suppose I am thankful for this legislation and having laws that can protect us from sex/child offenders and terrorists. If an agent suspects something, they should have the right to search data. Don't you agree?
I disagree
If they suspect something, they should hold them while they get a warrant.
The data will still be there when the warrant arrives.

If you have to travel ...
Be sure and encrypt many gigabytes of the constitution, specifically the 4th amendment and make them un-encrypt 400 copies of the 4th. Wonder how many times they would harass an American if they had to spend 100 hours a month opening zippped up versions of the constitution?
In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Sorry to go off subject for just a minute, but I have to say that I was rather disappointed today after listening to the ramblings of Alex Jones for quite some time to not hear the "huge announcement" about the Campaign for Liberty that was supposed to be announced. I have been watching the DP all day for the update but am somewhat disappointed because it will not occur today.
Can anyone spread any light on why there is a delay in the announcement? (Please don't speculate) And please, please do not make the announcement on Alex Jones. I would rather not listen Jones' ramblings on his show. It really does discredit the movement. If it is such a huge announcement, I am sure at least someone with a more mainstream audience (Wolf Blitzer, Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, Joe Scarborough, Niel Cavuto, etc) could make the time to share the information. Thanks for your time.

Ahead of the curve as usual...
If I lived in Texas and Dr. Paul was my congressman, I could sleep easy about how I voted.
Mr. Nystrom: Has congressman Flake and Congressman Paul ever contemplated a liberty caucus with strict requirements?
WAHOR!!

Dr. Paul continues to wave a fan at a hurricane. God bless him. He never gives up. Why, oh, WHY can't we get just another couple of hundred like him in Congress? Can it be there aren't that many honest people in the entire country willing to run?

Willing to run, yes! Where
Willing to run, yes! Where would an honest, working class American get the millions of dollars needed to mount a campaign?
Absolutely necessary to extend this idea to all Law Enforcement

Another homerun for our hero.

Constitution
If unconstitutional law is passed and is therefore not really law as the writings of our founders and the constitution (Article VI) itself suggests,,, why is another law needed?
For some unknown reason we the people have been accepting any and all bills passed as 'law' without any constitutionality test.
By requiring new law to correct bad law only re-enforces the belief that anything that makes it through Congress is in fact real law.
Having to remind Congress of constitutional requirements shows how badly we have erred in the people we sent to represent us.
As Ron represents most of our ideals he does not represent most of us. If that little area in Texas can vote someone of caliber in why can't we do the same? Most tell me it can't be done but I see it done every time he gets re-elected.
Oh well, preaching to the choir....
