It is time -- arguably, it is past time -- for you to get your family and your wealth safely outside the borders of the United States. America has become a police state that is moving quickly toward total surveillance and, in typical American fashion, the resulting society will almost certainly be the "the best and the biggest" tyranny in the world.
Make plans right now while opportunities still exist to secure your wealth outside of the authorities' rapacious reach because that door of opportunity may be slammed in your face in the near future. It is not merely that government at all levels is starving for the cash that's dried up from property taxes and, so, will steal and confiscate like a drunken highwayman. Many factors point to rise of the Total State, which will grind up your freedom, your future and the lives of those who resist.
I read about 12 news sources a day, from far-left to the Religious Right; month by month, there is a dramatic increase in reports of police brutality, government surveillance, crack-downs, the control of daily life down to the minutia of which oils you may cook french fries... And there seems to be precious little opposition to the arrival of totalitarianism. Perhaps the flood of oppression is too overwhelming and has caused a general paralysis; at times, that is my reaction. But, mostly, I think people are either focused on financial survival or they actually applaud the Total State. Even those who believe they believe in freedom are among the applauders because they buy the justifications being offered for the annihilation of civil liberties. For example, consider just one of the incredible and successful assaults on the due process and liberties of us all; in the name of defending women and children, the campaign against sex offenders has created a class of "untouchables" in class-free America -- people whom the government tells where to live, how to make a living, which sites they can e-visit, etc., etc. In the name of noble goals, the government has erased the idea of serving out a time in jail (which used to be called "paying your debt to society") and, instead, established the idea of indefinite sentences and 'forever' punishments.But the establishment of this caste system is just one aspect of the wild plunge into tyranny.
What should worry you the most is that everything has occurred before the economic collapse of the United States, which I believe will happen in the near future. (The timing depends somewhat on when "too many" foreign-held dollars are dumped back into America.) I expect a severe depression to unfold over the next few years. And nothing, nothing, nothing encourages the growth of State as much as people who are frightened and hungry/homeless. An entire population can turn to a leader much as children turn toward a parent...and for the same reason: to feel safe.
If an economic depression is added to the convergence of the police state with a total surveillance society, then I honestly don't know what will happen. But I do know that you don't want to be there to find out. Don't be fooled by those who say "but America has too strong a tradition of freedom for this to happen." Pre-Nazi Germans thought their culture was too sophisticated and fine to allow the triumph of barbarism. Leave.

No I would not leave, even if it were financially possible. This nation is the last beacon of hope. Socialism/Fascism-what ever you want to call it, is finally coming into focus after decades of planning. If we just pack up and leave, there will be no safe place to run. We have a duty to not just stay and protect our families, but to also safe-guard the liberties for generations yet to come. We need to further educate, and if need be, fight until the final seed of totalitarianism is unsown. Desertion is not wise, nor is it dignified.

I think that pretty much sums it up. I believe there are enough patriots in this country that as that time approaches, we can finally wake up the masses to our aid.
Think about how many people voted for RP. Think about how many liked his ideas, but did not vote for him. Think about all the people that just don't vote, and haven't for a long time, because they know deep inside it really makes no difference. There are a lot of people in this country that don't trust the government as far as they can throw them. There are a lot of people on the fence, not knowing whether to trust them or not.
I really don't think Americans will give up their guns. Not completely. And it is for this very reason. Blood might have to flow to refresh the tree of liberty.

I live in Japan--lived here for close to 10 years. I'm 38 but in the best shape of my life. When it comes time to fight, that's when I'll come back. Until people start waking up and taking all this seriously then I'm just going to stay here and wait. By the looks of how stupid and aloof folks are back home, I'll probably be waiting for a while....
Until then I'll still support this cause by means of monetary and moral contributions but I won't step foot on US soil until something REAL takes place.

Justice is sometimes more important than a life of comfort. I think justice needs to be served. They've taken a country, a country so great it could take all the money it spends on military and war... and use that money to feed the world's people and still have some change to put away in the piggy bank... and they've turned it into a country that is essentially an instrument of mass destruction. Someone needs to pay for that. If all the patriots leave, the sheeple will just be led to the slaughter.

I have a sister who lives in Switzerland now. I saw her once before she planned to get married. She told me that she wasn't going to vote and then told my dad she would consider denouncing her American citizenship. He told her to think twice because there's no turning back. This pissed me and my dad off like nothing ever. And yes, I told her about Ron Paul. I showed her my sign. But it didn't click. I told her that if I saw my country in trouble and could be able to do something, I'd fight for our dear land. I wouldn't run away, I'd face it. I've faced other tough things. Not afraid to die for freedom here.

I remember watching news reports of demonstrations in east Germany as communism was coming to an end. I knew it was all over for the commies when I saw a demonstration in Leipzig, and heard the marchers yelling "Wir Bleiben Heir!" (We're staying here).
Before that moment, every east german who wanted their freedom was looking for a way to escape to the west. It was when they decided to fight instead of fleeing that the whole rotten state came down.

But if things went haywire on a global scale, I'm afraid that white Americans who are fleeing to Costa Rica would have their throats slashed in a heartbeat.

Act2:We invade and occupy the country inadvertantly killing hundreds of thousands of civilians and decimating their entire infrastructure, and then tell the people back home that we will be treated as "libertators".
Act3: Now, we say it was all a huge OOOPS on our part, but claim we have to stay to "stabilize" the country and make it safe for democracy ..reversing 1,000 years of history between these three ethnic groups bound by a false border created by the British after WW1 ....brilliant.

Wendy is a world treasure, warning of government intrusions on our liberties far in advance of almost anyone else. Think of her as a general, figuring out the best strategies for freedom ... not a private best suited as canon fodder in a headlong assault against the bad guys.

the guilt i would have leaving my friends and family and my fellow americans behind to deal with the horror would kill me! theres no where to run anyways! stand and fight and we will win! sure some of us will die, but we are going to die some day anyways. better to die for your freedom than die a coward. do you really think the military won't eventualy revolt and fight with us? they have family who live here too. when they realize that what they're doing is evil and wrong they will mutiny and fight for us. sure it could get pretty ugly for a awhile but we will win. and then we will have to power to enforce the constitution the way it was meant to be. for the people! on paper, i'm still a canadian! even though i lived here for 99.9% of my life. and i'm 47 years old now. i could go back to canada if i wanted to but whats the point, if theres going to be a north american union, we're all gonna be in this shit together. i love both countries, but i will stand and fight here in this country since its really my home.

If you have no intention of expatriating, why so bitter if someone else chooses to do so? Curiosity as to why I can understand... Sadness that a fellow American FEARS THEIR GOVERNMENT SO MUCH I can understand.

Truth is, there are really no nations today who are not authoritarian, or becoming more so. But they are not all becoming FASCIST. They are not all becoming economic vaccuum cleaners, sucking the financial life out of those not part of the privledged elite. They are not all printing their currency into valuelessness. [ For example: Singapore, which publishes far more honest numbers than the federal reserve, posted a negative 0.3% inflation in 2007]
And there are precious few governments on the planet (other than ours) who see the road to "sweetness and light" at the end of hell fire missles and 500 pound "smart bombs".
While I am sure there are others on this list who are better traveled than I; still I am better traveled than most Americans and I will say this: Precious few I have met overseas equate Americans with the American government. Most (by watching their own government) understand the difference.
Why would I consider expatriation? Because of the possibility of a draft. I have young sons, and I will not let them have my sons. It has been brought up in congress twice in the last 6 years... Of course it was called "national service"... When it is done, it will be sold by the media as a "mandatory" Americorp... With a federal department to decide who is a "volunteer" and who fills military "needs"... Doubt it? Rangel's bill is available as a .pdf on the internet. Put forth in congress Jan. 2007. Scary ka-ka.
Further, as the original poster allueded: If you don't do it now, will you be able to do so in the future? With the bail out of Freddie and Fannie... How can GM be far behind? And then?

Sorry to come out so pessimistic folks. Truly. But there are a lot of reasons to be afraid these days. Especially if you have kids.
It is the nature of posts such as this, as to seem as if the poster thinks they have all the answers. This is why talking to someone will always be better than blogs. There is no give and take, no sense of understanding the mood of the speaker.
So if the orignal poster seemed fearful; perhaps they were. God knows I am some times. My wife says it is because I research too much news... :)

I for one am getting weary of being....well...weary. Let's face it folks, none of us will live forever. I alway's liked that motto, "It's better to burn out than to fade away" I will admit I have thought of sunny beaches somewhere else, I wont lie, sometimes I want to leave and escape this madness. I have never been one to be forced into a corner. I am desperate for freedom and willing to fight for it. I just want to know, if only for a minute what real freedom truly feels like. I guess I was born with a gift of seeing what others cannot see or refuse to see. I know it's coming, and in a way I welcome it, so we can get behind it, I dont like being in front of this monster. I have come to the realization, that it doesn't matter where you go, eventually it will catch up to you, you can escape for a while, but it's hard to escape from yourself. I will stay and fight with words until I am forced to fight with bullets. I am ready. I wont go down without a fight. And, I know, I am not alone in my way of thinking.

Having said that, I am an optimist and I think freedom will only start in such a society as this.
