Does Anyone Have a Good Explanation For Why American Cops Seem to Be Getting More Violent & Aggressive in Recent Times?

It sickens me to hear these stories about police killing people without justifiable causes through tasing and beatings. There is a new case that seems to crop up every other day. What's going on?

Are they being trained differently these days? Are they all on drugs?

How on earth do they all keep getting away with murder and assault without being reprimanded at all in most cases. Our country has become sick and twisted. I mean this stuff has become really commonplace and we just sit by and watch without doing anything.

I guess it's kind of hard because once you get upset enough about one thing, there's already a new incident to take its place.

Here's a link to some sad examples of police abuses of powers and completely getting away with it

Clearly, all policeman can't be bad, and I don't want to make a gross generalization about this issue, but it seems that there is a rise in these types of cases and I don't think it's just the increased ability to hear about it via updated reporting technology.

What does he mean volunteer

We are mixing that word up. Volunteer is a person who is not paid. Officers and soldiers are paid (too damn little, for sure). Soldiers are not volunteer vs. drafted. They are free will or drafted. They are hired or drafted. But we call them volunteers. No they are not. See, that is another semantic that basically our government has screwed up to make going into the army sound extra giving of self. Soldiers are hired and it is their work. They hire on to give their life with the understanding that our government is suppose to be moral enough to keep that from happening except under life threat to the people here. But it is their choice to make that decision. If they don't trust the government to make a moral decision, then they need to not apply for the job.

This is not a joke

I know 2 people who scored TOO HIGH on their exam to become a police officer, one for San Jose Police Dept. and the other for Battle Creek, MI police dept.

I have read recently that they fear people with too high of an I.Q. or score will get bored with the job, I think people with a high I.Q. might actually think for themselves, and refuse to arrest people who arent breaking real laws.

A prime candidate

for the secret service and the fbi was rejected with no explanation and I am certain it was because he was of such high moral character and high IQ.

Sheriff, "Yeah, we all

Sheriff, "Yeah, we all wanted to be state patrol. They got the cushy job and get to go wherever. Those of us who didn't make the cut... well we became sheriffs. Those that don't make that cut and become sheriffs... Well, they become city cops..."

The more the demand for law enforcement officer the more money it takes. OR... the lower the bar for required prerequisite.

Combine that with post 911 fear mongering, chemical environmental manipulation. (fluoride, aspartame,GMO,RBGH,chemtrails, legal drugs,etc...)

If the government could change something they didn't want wouldn't they just change it? Perhaps what they/we are getting exactly what they ordered.

Personality profiling. Take personality test, pick a certain group of traits. It is the "us versus them" mentality. It is very easy to do, succumb to the temptation of power. Only Frodo and Samwise resisted the Ring of Power.

We changed style of policing the last several years. We used to have peace officers, cops who did not assume people were criminals, they would look the other way as long as no one got hurt. They kept the peace. Now we have law enforcers. They activily search for anyone who is, or might be, breaking the law. Totally diffent mind-set. Think about Sheriff Andy Taylor from Mayberry, as an example of a peace officer. Law enforcers discussed the finer art of arrest with Rodney King.

No, I don't think all cops are bad; I know quite a few and for the most part they're good people.

I do take exception when they seem to receive much different treatment than "civillians" when they break the law. I don't like it that those "in" law enforcement or the court system (judges) get to play by a different set of rules.

Yeah, I do...

Most of these newer cops are veterans of these awful wars. The cycle continues on into the civilian world.

Hell, the first place I applied to work when I got out of the corps was the local police department.

I think the main problem is simply that we hear about it more.

If something happens in New York, I hear about it on my news all day. This hasn't always been the case. Second, we have a society that is fraying at the edges, which causes chaos and often provokes a violent response. Third, many cops are now veterans of Iraq or are trained by veterans of Iraq, they come back and handle security duty like they handled it there. Fourth, and also importantly, our civil rights are being ignored and trampled on at the highest levels, this trickles down. The Neocon philosophy is one that asserts that the state should do whatever it takes to maintain order and peace without regard to rules and rights.

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

Our WHOLE society

has become more Violent and Aggressive. Look how quick people turn on one another discussing issues. I baby sit a little girl and her older brother. The boy seems to run that house hold. I tried to tell the parents in a nice way they need to regain control of their home. Not cruelly or anything, there are ways to do it without aggression. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a clue how to do it. Wow, the boy is only 7 yrs. old I hate to think what he will be like when he becomes a teen. Hope I'm not around. Peace

My DAD!

Always had a way to do it. My fanny got warmed up plenty of times and I gotta say, I have respect for others and treat folks the way I expect to be treated. When I look in the mirror, I like the man I have become. Mostly due to the fact that My Dad made sure I understood the important things in life.
I have told my boys, that in this great universe, everything revolves around one central point. That point is not you!

I love my country
I am appalled by my government

Rising Frustration

Just like everyone else the economic times are hitting police officers and their families hard too. They aren't getting pay raises fast enough to keep up with inflation. This in no way justifies their behavior but it might help explain the apparently short fuses we are seeing.

Additionally we are more aware do to the fact that we are here and waking up to the real world. Some for the first time. Kind of like getting a new car. Suddenly everyone has the same one as you.

Remember,

All police departments in the US, State, Local, Tribal, all ultimately answer not to the citizens that employ and pay them, but to Chertoffs Department of Homeland Security. It is just a taste of things to come. They have been trained to think of us not as citizens that they swore an oath to protect, but as the enemy, to be made to comply.

If you want my opinion, it

If you want my opinion, it stems largely from the low regard military culture has ingrained in it's soldiers towards "civilians". I remember well from my short military career how we were taught to think of ordinary citizens as less than ourselves. Add to that the fact that the welfare culture has infested liberty's garden with human trash and weeds of every sort and you don't have to imagine the outpouring of frustration and hostility, you can watch it on youtube.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Most Police

are good people, just like Soldiers they have a job to do that is in itself a fine line to walk. There may be a few rogue agents out there but most are just regular people doing a job.Now sometimes it may become a blur to them what that is.I mean when you start to equip them with military style weapons and train them to become an assault force and mirror military action that fine line gets even thinner. But those who abuse their power should be dealt with. But a lot of times when you see these videos and things you only see a part of what really took place.A citizen can't expect to enrage a officer and not expect to get railed on it's human nature. If you point a weapon at a officer you should be aware of the consequences of such a thing. When you threaten with deadly force it is met with deadly force.

Yeah, Whatever.

A cop takes the "job" He knows what it's duties entails. He knows it's mostly extortion. He likes the power over people. One person at a time it's a cheap fix, until the next poor bastard he encounters. Protect and serve is one of my personal favorites..LOL. The truth is, that a cop is the enforcer of the elitists who make the laws in which opress us as a nation. They are a rougue bunch, with a us against you mentality. Unfortunately the laws do not apply to them as they do to us. I could name many cases, where innocent people where wronged and even murdered by them, and nothing was done. They are above the "law" and they KNOW it. They are not open to rational debate. It's my way or jail for you, this is what they are taught. At the heart of this is monetary gain, it's another form of extortion from the people. You wont obtain freedom very long with a cop loving mentality. They enforce the laws that take away your freedom. You cant hide the truth behind it's a "job". The Nazi's said the same thing in order to escape their persecution. As long as I am armed, I have no need for a "police protection" This I have learned from experience.

Yeah, Whatever.

I say take it with a grain of salt

and if there is a local issue with an incident, then handle it locally with tack and w/o prejudice. And contact your local officials with the issue.

There are good and bad EVERYWHERE! I've seen some posts here where a cop made a mistake and they wanted to make a federal case out of it.

Again, remember to choose love. Two sides to EVERY story.

Homeland Security

I think that the traing has changed and the federal funding has increased through Homeland inSecurity. New training guidelines and procedures and money for new weapons, uniforms and training all coming from the fed.

Your question is a fallacy of logic.

by assuming every person agrees with you.

It's the reporting and the availability of information that has changed, not the police. Look into the history of Chicago during the prohibition. I think you'll find that it negates your argument to some degree.

I think there are plenty of good cops. They go to work and return home without killing people. Just like you.

That is a good point

Times have definitely changed since then, maybe it is more so the reporting, but there are many angles to this discussion as is seen through all the responses thus far, One of the more intriguing aspects I think is the technology and the weaponry that is being used today.

I think in many cases, these tasers are to blame. Now that tasers are being employed, they are being used in a lot of situations that don't warrant their use simply as a tool of compliance. They demonstrate to the perp that the officer has power over them just like a gun wouldn't have done, but the officers are trained to believe that it won't kill the perp, when in fact, in many cases it has done just that. When the lawsuit comes up, the officer has an excuse that he didn't know it would kill them.

I think we should not allow officers to carry tasers anymore, unless they can learn to use them responsibly, however, this type of responsible use doesn't seem to be a forthcoming issue being discussed out in the open media. It's more of just the reporting that something amiss happened with their use, and then bloop* brangelina's baby, etc.

Our technology has allowed us to witness things going on all around the country, but it is like watching commercials.

The policmen in my town are great

Our state police are the best.

Everyone makes mistakes and the media just cranks up what they want for their reasons.

If you have any concept of how difficult a policeman's job is you wouldn't bother with this crap.

These guys are dedicated to their jobs.

Alex Jones hates cops go there and post.

i agree. our cops are fine. no issues here.

E Pluribus Unum...

.....Out of many, one.

What are we idiots?

What makes you think by just showing the bad that we will never see any good? There are always two sides to every story. I'm sick of all of this cop bashing anarchy bull crap that goes on in here. Bad cop did this, bad cop did that! What about good cop did this, good cop did that? I guess this is what happens when people of different cloth's come together under the banner of freedom. If there were no laws. No cops. Then that means I could come over to you, any of you, and take you out for not believing in my goat demon pagan god. Tuff titties said the kitties but the milks still good. There are more good deeds that go unoticed than the bad. Are we so gullible that we believe movies and TV of all things for this "I hate the man" immature frame of mind. Oh wait I guess people pick that up and drop it in adolescence. Grow up.

Sorry I disagree.

The "man" as you say, enforces the laws that keep us down. Law's which force us to comply regaurdless of how stupid they are. They drive around and look for ways to extort. It's thier "job". They set people up, take bribes, lie, cheat and steal. There is no such thing as a good cop. They might be the nicest fella in the world, but at the end of they day, they STILL do thier masters bidding. I have watched many cops hide in wait behind buildings, in medians ect for thier next victim. They can pretty much do anything, they want, including forcing people to turn on other people. This sickens me. I recently had a conversation with a conservation agent I know. I asked him if it was legal to put a small boat in the back of a truck and put it in creeks ect, without a license. He told me you could do it as long as you paddled it and had no motor. He then went on to tell me a story about how him and his buddies had found some small john boats on the banks of a pond located on federal land. He told me how they "took em" and sold them. I could go on and on and on. It's not a kid mentality, it's the truth. How do you ever expect to be free, when cops enforce all these laws, which take away our freedom? If they lie in wait for us at every turn? It doesn't matter if we abolish the income tax or get rid of the fed, they will just turn up the heat on us via the "man". If you want freedom, what you ask for could never be under these circumstances. Ps> I dont fear what people will do as long as I am armed. I am very good with my weapons. I have spent a lifetime with guns. If someone is brave enough to try to do me harm, then they are brave enough to eat some lead.

I guess the question is, if

I guess the question is, if there were no cops around would you kill me because I didn't worship your goat?

Most people follow laws not because they are afraid of cops, but because they are reasonably responsible and act as such. I'm not saying that people are angels, but it is the people who maintain order through their own generally nonviolent and cooperative behavior while the authorities take credit for the good behavior of the citizens.

The folks on Lew Rockwell have written quite a few essays along those lines. Very enlightening.

I may need to "grow up" but I really don't believe that cops should be beating, tasering and shooting people as often as they apparently do such things. Take the 16 year old boy who fell off an overpass (no drugs or alcohol involved) -- his back was broken but the cops tasered him nine times because he wouldn't get up when they ordered him to do so.

And that is not an isolated incident. We've all heard the stories. I don't think I'll ever "grow up" enough to welcome the shooting of elderly women and the tasering of little kids.

That's not to say that many cops aren't decent people who strive to do a good job. But the stories we have been reading do seem to indicate a trend toward cruelty by those in authority.

It's perception. The truth

It's perception. The truth is cops are probably mostly the same, but more things are illegal now, and the Internet permits people to see what happens to abused suspects worldwide in an instant.

SUPPORT OUR FOUNDERS' AMERICA
Support the Constitution of the United States

Two theories...

1) Authority & power corrupts. People should have authority because they've 'earned' it by their charecter. But not so in this world.

2) My feelings and this is just my opinion but people are attracted to what is IN them. If you are freedom loving you will be attracted to the Constitution. If you have a sadistic or mind control bend in you, you go where you can express that. I throw Dentists into this category too.

Alot of cops I know were bully's in scholl as we were growing up. I've also met some who I percieve to have deep seated self esteem issues.

But thats my 2 cents

My Theory

Same as the "people" in the airport TSA
1) Improper Training
2) Too Much Authority

Also Jack Mclamb, a police officer who trains police to respect the rights of sovereign individuals has said most precincts are hiring and promoting the most dangerous and immoral officers over nice guys. Felons, illegal immigrants and Iraq veterans with PTSD are all being hired as officers.

Steroids are pretty rampant in the police academy these days too.

My best guess

Is that they are getting upgraded to a "blackwater" sense of training since adolf Bushler decided to install the homeland security police state.

You said it right,

"our country has become sick and twisted." The cops are a product of our society.

This notion of mine is not something I got from reading a book. I'm old enough to have watched, with my own eyes, our society run off of the edge of a cliff.

well

You know how they have those simulation screens where cops have to determine who the bad guy is? Notice how the whole goal of the training is to shoot the bad guy? how the bad guy always raises a gun at the cop?

Their training is detemine what the threat is, and act. They are taught to use force for the most part. And because of that, they have the convenient excuse of "I was only following what my training taught me to do".

If you dare speak when they tell you to be quiet.. because apparently cops have the authority to tell you that you cannot speak... then you will be beaten. If you dare try to block my repeated blows with my metal baton on your legs when you won't shut up like I told you and put your hands behind your back (something that is very hard to do when another person, even a cop is beating the shit out of you) then you will be beaten.

Ever tried to force someone's arm behind their back? Ever had someone do it to you just playing around? It's not a very effective technique if you want someone to relax and submit to you. I don't care who you are, it will only make you tense your arm up to prevent yourself from being injured. But natural automatic responses to prevent injury, are seen as resisting arrest to them. So they use more force.

You cannot be a natural human. You cannot do or say as you want. You will shut your mouth, you will obey, and you will not dare film their abuses. You will respect them or you will be dealt with swifly and forcefully.

Cops are being trained to view people as their enemies. We are all a potential threat and we must all be dealt with the same. End of story.

LOL, I find your description in this paragraph amusing.

Maybe it's so funny beacause it contains some elements of truth and shows the hopeless absurdity of it all.

We are all being trained differently these days...

Humanity is EVIL, haven't you seen the TV? Talk to your average democrat and you will learn that humanity is indeed evil, unless of course, they work for the government.

I just had that discussion with the local county democrat chairperson. She ended by telling me that 'people' are so bad that there must be much, much, more regulations. I guess in her world, saints, or maybe extra-terrestrials, are those who run government. The Ignorance runs deep! Just ask that dork cameron dehart.

THE MORE I LEARN ABOUT GOVERNMENT
THE MORE I LOVE MY GUNS

I believe,

that as the criminals become more brazen, the police have to counter that effect by being more forceful. It ain't easy being a cop, you are indeed putting your life on the line every time you put on your badge.

So, the academies that train officers treat it like military boot camp, and once they finish their training, they would lock their own mother up for jaywalking.

And remember, that cops don't make that much money, so finding quality people willing to risk their lives isn't that easy. So more than a few degenerates make it into the police force.

But, this is only my opinion.

total bullsh*t....

more brazen criminals, my ass!

what kind of bs crap have you been eating lately, buster?
the TRUTH is that the pigs are low intellect as*holes that seek power behind a badge...their low pay ensures that ANYONE with half a brain will go elsewhere to look for sustainable employment so they ONLY get those they want...those they can TRAIN to brutalize citizens...these revenue collects for the state (yes, revenue collectors are all they are now because they sure as hell don't protect and serve) are taught treat old men and women the same as kids...hassle them, harass them, get their money for the state...the cowards would never go after REAL criminals without a SWAT team and a TANK...why do they do what they do? because they are less intelligent than most anyone and now, behind a badge and a gun can be important...
O Captain, My Captain, rise up and hear the bells!

Hey buddy,

50 years ago, when a cop said you were under arrest, people went willingly, today they flee or shoot at the cops, that is the truth.

But what we have here, is a few bad apples giving the rest of the police a bad name.

But in my opinion, a few bad apples would be about 1%, but I believe we currently have about 5% bad apples.

But, this is only my opinion.

I was pulled over

The cop ran my plates and no record came up. No registration nothing. He was mad at first but then I told him I was retired active duty and in the Reserves. His mood changed and was very polite. I was also in return. I guess its all about your perception of what a bad cop is. Every time I have talk with the police they have been kind and calm. As have I.Anarchy is never the way.

I dont advocate

Anarchy. I never have. I wouldn't mind cops, if about 90% of thier powers were stripped from them. They should only have power to arrest when someone has done harm to somebody else or thier property. That's it. Everything else can go in the trash where it belongs. That means no more power to entice, no more power to entrap people, No more enforcement of stupid laws to keep us down, just imagine how great you would feel if a cop got behind you then.
