The positive responses to this video are ... interesting? The guy's views in this video bare little resemblance to the views of Thomas Paine, especially with regard to racism and religion. Thomas Paine was a freethinker, and most definitely NOT a christian.
But it's interesting how many positive responses this video got.
Libertarians sure are a mixed up group of folks! We got your radical christians on one side, your radical atheists on the other, etc.
...on the Dark Side and shallow observers, right there as their sidekick, easily misdirected chasing their pet intolerance, as if it matters, while they follow the scent of the red herring as the Reichstag burns.

I usually agree wholeheartedly with the postings on the Daily Paul; but I thought this video was a little off -- and that it could be decidly off-putting to people new to the ideas of liberty.
First, isn't much of American's greatness due to our immigrant history, the rich diversity of cultures added to the indigenous first Americans?
Today while Americans whose families have been here for multi-generations slumber, immigrants often are more aware of the important freedoms this country still offers.
A much better unifying factor than language would seem to be holding freedom as the highest shared value. It's a universal human concept that can be communicated in any language.
He's just saying that once immigrants come here they should have to learn the official language and not change society to suit the incoming immigrants. It's not an attack on immigrants although some may look at it this way. It certainly puts an additional load on many companies and government to supply documents in many different languages.........and it's more regulation which we can all do without. We must unite in some way as we the people or surely we will be divided and conquered.

“That there are men in all countries who get their living by war, and by keeping up the quarrels of nations, is as shocking as it is true; but when those who are concerned in the government of a country, make it their study to sow discord, and cultivate prejudices … it becomes the more unpardonable.”
-- Thomas Paine
This slick video is astroturf fraud designed to rabble rouse in herding people toward emotional chauvinistic issues of no real consequence to the powers that be. It's a sucker feint.
“Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it.”
That depends on whether you think having english the national language is an "emotional chauvinistic issues of no real consequence". When you come to the country you have to pass a basic test on our history. It's not too much to ask to learn the language. The average American should not have to learn fifty different languages in order to function, and how should people coming in, place a requirement on the people who are here? I went into a store in Miami and they were making announcements over the loudspeaker in spanish only, I felt like I was not in my own country any longer. When my grandparents came here they learned the language, they were not asked to give up their beliefs or culture, just learn to speak the national language and they did it proudly. I'm not anti-immigrant, as I am Irish, Lithuanian, Austrian, and many others. Immigrants make our country stronger, there is no doubt about that. I'm not saying that we should be focusing on this right now though as we must first fix the way our government functions. Having it torn in 50 different directions doesn't help us fix it though.
