One Day Primary Record of $3.1 Million In Trouble (correction: Dead)
Naturally, we all would love to break the $5.6 million one day record of Kerry in the general election of 2004, but a one-day unity move to kickoff a general election campaign is standard after a nominee is chosen.
What doesn't happen is for a primary candidate, amongst the many in a field, to get a bunch of actual donations (not the bogus event staged last January in which "commitments" were included by a candidate who had pre-planned to report his first contributions on a single day: no names).
Once the total for today passes $2.3, Ron Paul will have received more actual contributions in one day than any primary candidate in American history.
UPDATE
The campaign says the total for one day is a little over $3.1 million, but the $326,471 or so dropped into the till this morning by the campaign (and not included in the running total for the day at www.ronpaulgraphs.com) may be included. If so, then when the thermometer hits $5.9 million, we should have broken that record. We're closing in on $5.2 as I type this.

I DONT THINK WE SHOULD COUNT THE DAY OVER TIL 12 PACIFIC TIME
Folks - MONEY IS STILL FLOWING IN.... nobody said the money bomb is ending at such and such a time - its only 10:45 pm NOV 5TH on the west coast - I think alot of people are still holding back for that last boost and I hate to think they are not being counted for the day.... ELECTION DAY lasts through all time zones til 7pm so why not our money bomb...
any thoughts anyone?
Awww, geez, people. LOOK
Awww, geez, people. LOOK WHAT WE DID!!!! I'm asking you to imagine....Imagine what it would be like when he is the nominee. WHEN it reaches that point, this will be the RON PAUL JUGGERNAUT!!! Well, actually, I guess it is already. General election? If that actually happens, my friends and fellow warriors, it will be all over. NO ONE will stand against us and our fearless leader. Oh, my God, well done, my fellow compatriots. I am experiencing a euphoria that I have NEVER connected with a political experience before. Thank you one and all.

There will be more big days ahead
"Naturally, we all would love to break the $5.6 million one day record of Kerry in the general election of 2004..."
Oh, don't fret antboy... WE WILL beat that record in the 2008 General election season, once Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination.
It is the primary election hurdle that we must win. Once the average Republican (and Democrat) learns about Ron Paul, and see that he's for real, the support base will grow by leaps and bounds!
Cherish this feeling today... Let it motivate us to do "even more" to reach out to our friends and neighbors locally... Keep up the hard work, folks! This is a critical time... The first primaries are just over a month away.
I was thinking that myself
I almost mentioned that in my original post, and agree that there will be a giant burst after the nomination for the general campaign. Of course, this was the one needed to remove the incredulity of fair-minded skeptics (those that aren't fair-minded can always come up with a new reason to ignore us). And I must say that donation graph for the quarter looks a lot nicer today than it did yesterday!
$4 miillion
Hey, it's only fiat currency.
But we did hit the big 4-Oh at midnight on ronpaulgraphs.com. More than
$7 million in the kitty for this quarter -- that $12 million goal is looking a lot more doable now.
40,000 donors -- that has to be a record for one day.
But somehow those scientific polls never find us!
Yesterday I figured we'd be doing well to get $2 million today. I'm glad to have been proven utterly wrong. I've got $300 left to my legal limit. I'm saving it for the Boston Tea Party.
$4 million the easy way: Check! Is there another goal?
There is now $4 million more in the Paul campaign bank account than at midnight, and we have, in reality, deposited more in primary money than Clinton did on her "$6 million" day. But you can still do one more thing tonight: ruin me financially.
I gave my $100. Then, as I had promised, when we hit $1 million online, I gave another $100. At $2 million, another. At $3 million, one hundred more.
Yesterday was our 23rd wedding anniversary, and I made reservations to take my wife to Cafe Beaujolais this weekend to celebrate the luckiest day of my life. But if the online donations hit $4 million, we're eating at Burger King on Saturday. You don't want to ruin our anniversary dinner, do you?
UPDATE - My wife says screw the French food: she wants a Whopper, Fries, Diet Coke, and to live in a free society based on mutual respect for life and property. Even SHE is against me. But I still have hope, if you stay below $7,115,107 on the total quarter donation graph.
Antboy, why You are so greedy?
Couldn't You donate at least one of Your two french hens?
No, not to this campaign -but to Stephanopoulos!
This guy might be starving next year.....
Online total per ronpaulgraphs: $3,992,786. Merci
Well, the total contributions posted on November 5 came to more than $4.3 million, easily outpacing the primary haul form Clinton's June 30 bundle. But www.ronpaulgraphs.com was adjusted to remove more than $300,000 of offline contributions that were posted the same day, leaving the online total at midnight EST at $3,992,786. Of course, undoubtedly the last refresh was delayed by the enormous volume of contributions in the final minutes, causing contributions made on November 5 to be registered as November 6, and the chart at http://paulcash.slact.net said the total was $4.00 million, but who can trust these rounded numbers? So I escaped by the skin of my teeth, and only contributed $400 to Ron Paul's campaign on November 5, and I'm not adding another $100 just to be a nice guy. It's the principle of the thing. That's it. $400. No more.
UPDATE - Foiled again: since I refused to do it, my wife made a $100 contribution. Oh, well, sing along with us:
Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us, all we ask is that you let us have it your way: Have It Your Way, At Burger King, Have It Your Way, At Burger King. ;)
lol
lol. Sorry but just eat at Burger King, cuz we've beaten the 4 mill!!! Sounds evil and I'm enjoying it. Hahahaha

Must be online only
Not yet, since my commitment was based on the online donations, and the adjusted starting figure for that was $3,115,107. It'll take another $250,000 to cost me another $100 contribution, and with only one hour to go, I don't think the rest of you can ruin my dinner. I'd like to see you try.
It could be much, much more than we think
Uur current count could be significantly less than what has actually come in. If you look on RonPaulGraphs at the chart for today, it is nearly a straight line since about 8:00 am this morning. Since it is unlikely that our giving was that consistent throughout the day, this would indicate that there has been some sort of throttling going on in the credit card processing to avoid overloading the servers (on either Ron Paul's end or the credit card companies).
What does this mean? It means that they will be processing our donations well into tomorrow morning, and we really have no idea how much we have already given. I have seen several pushes throughout the day to push the figures faster, and each time the line hardly budged from its straight course.
At current rate, they will process over $4 million in donations today, but the actual number could be significantly higher than that. We won't really know until that straight line stops climbing sometime tomorrow (maybe even Wednesday?!).
In a word: wow.
It could be more, but what it is is quite amazing
A friend of mine told me that the reason he is a pessimist is because that way he is always pleasantly surprised. You may be right, and we also have to wonder about the phone contributions today and whether they're being added by the campaign staff as they come in, or await a later accounting.
But I'm going to take what is visible as quite good enough: this will be coming in far, far above the predictions of most people, including all of us positively biased supporters.
$4 million for the day if we hit...
$6,788,000... getting close, should do it. I think we'll end at $7 million total by midnight ET.
Remember when $100,000 was a lot of money?
We're less than that from being $4 million higher than the midnight reading on the donation chart. Less than 30 minutes at our current pace.
Ding ding ding!
$3.5 million today so far, with two hours left until midnight EST.
I'll bet we broke every and all records for numbers of donors in a single day, regardless of whatever quibbles there are about who got how much money when.
Can we pass Clinton in the next hour?
We're less than $200,000 from having deposited $4 million (online and offline) today, which was Clinton's approximate primary election deposit on June 30. At our current pace, we can do it in an hour.
Hillary got 6.2 on June 30th
Among 2008 presidential candidates, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton holds the record for raising the most in a single day: $6.2 million on June 30.
This was on ABC news. is that the bar now?
It would be a strech for the next 3 hours to pull in a million an hour but there is a money bomb set for 930 and thst could help reach this.
I guess the question is would everyone whoh gave give again to top that?
huh? 930 bomb?
Where did you get that about a bomb on 9:30? I hope its true, but what site. I just hope we pass the 7 million mark!!!!
"We can be free and alive" - RP
This is an "online" record
This is an internet record and don't forget that some of the CC companies are posting the cash on a huge delay, so most of the money coming in until 8am or so tomorrow will count as REMEMBER THE FIFTH cash! We may break ALL records by the time all is posted.
Great Job Guys
Looks like Ron is going to have a really good day. Also, don't forget the west coast is driving home from work right now. Somewhere around $4 million for the day still is in the cards by 12 AM EST.
HEY!!!!!!!
Don't forget that some of the CC companies are posting the cash on a huge delay, so most of the money coming in until 8am or so tomorrow will count as REMEMBER THE FIFTH cash!
ALSO, I JUST REALIZED THAT I HAVE ALMOST $200 IN CHANGE sitting on my dresser. I plan on adding that to my next donation, which will triple it! Someone mentioned a "Change for Ron Paul" idea. I think we need to promote it. Everyone needs to add whatever change you have around the house to your next donation.
I agree with the change
I agree with the change thing. Around my campus, you usually see ALOT of nickles and quarters just lying around; the campus population is composed mostly of rich kids that are too high class to humiliate themselves to pick that change up, lol. As the poor slacker that I am, I pick it every once in a while. I think we can come up with quite an amount if we do that.
Straight Line
I find it a little odd that the giving has had such a consistently straight line when you look at the charts on RonPaulGraphs. Could this be because of some kind of throttle on Ron Paul's website? Could it be that they can only process so many credit card transactions per hour or is it possible to increase the rate of contributions?
I am just curious if anyone might now the real answer on this one. At current rate, it looks like we should easily break $4 million for the day.
Great Question Khomar.
There is a technological "speed limit" being applied via cc companies and the RP website to keep it from crashing. So we will have big totals well into the morning of the 6th of November. Cool!
The next question
If that is true, then will those donations count as being made today (11/5)? I would assume yes as they would have an 11/5 date stamp for when they were submitted. In this case... wow... that means we will have over $4 million processed by midnight. That also means we have absolutely no idea how much we may have actually donated today! We won't know until we see that solid line change direction indicating that all pending transactions have completed. Wow!
One day now best ever! But ...
Some are suggesting that the June 30 staged event in which $6 million of bundled contributions were delivered to the Clinton campaign is a valid record. Only $4 million of that was primary money and, while it is not fair to treat previously written checks as being given that day just because they were held for a single day deposit, some will attempt to call that the record.
So, where are we now? With over $3.1 million online plus our own $326K deposit of offline checks, the campaign has already posted over $3.4 million today, and is less than $600,000 from the next (highly debatable) record.
We will say we need $4,000,001 in total (and we get to count our own deposit: fair is fair). Since the midnight unadjusted number was $2,788,636, our aim is to get the thermometer to $6,788,637. And even in the time it took me to type this message, we only have around $550K to go for that one. With almost 4 hours to go (no cheating with time zone arguments, or they'll deny we did it).
This is as good a time as any for people who want to say they were a part of this historic day to send something in: $100 is nice, but there is a little round spot for $25 on the donation form, and many people who aren't yet bringing in their own incomes are putting in $08 for 08. Can we quiet the people still aiming to minimize our accomplishment by obliterating this one last target?
Less than 300K to Hilary's one day primary "record"
We've pulled within 300K of the primary money Clinton deposited on June 30. Although it isn't really a fair record, beating that with our honestly same day contributions would be another feather in what has become a virtual pillowful of feathers in our cap today.
Do you have a reference for
Do you have a reference for the 4 million primary amount? I estimated about the same from a cursory look at the flood of double-2300$-contributions in the list for that day. Would be nice to have that backed up by something.
Sorry, no precise figure on Hilary's June 30 target
That one was dropped on me too quickly to have time to research, and I'm relying on the same cursory glance you used. We'll have to sort it out later, but I didn't want to delay posting the target just because of our current imprecision.
Great Post AntBoy
I agree with you today has been a day of broken records and history made. We have a few hours left lets make them count. What a great day.
Black Swan
Have you read "Black Swan"?
I think what we have here is a "Black Swan"!!!
They said it couldn't be done because it hadn't been done before
I have: Tabel's book captures beautifully the tendency of people to underestimate the probability of rare events, and treat the improbable as if it were impossible.
Today is an extraordinary day in American history.
Double up?
$6,230,214 would double up the day from where it started. Right now (4:35 PM PST) we are under $100K to that point. If we hit that the $3.1 million is history and the real headline is this:
"Paul Doubles Donations in One Day, Bombs Competiton"
Byline:
"Other candidates reeling, not sure what hit them; people speak with their wallets"
You've done it to me again: over $3 million online
Me and my big mouth: $100 to start and $100 for every $1 million of online contributions today. Now that we've passed $3 million, I need to head over to the campaign site AGAIN. At this rate, I should just make http://www.ronpaul2008.co... my home page.
I HOPE YOU PEOPLE ARE HAPPY!!!! My Christmas budget is now down to 3 French hens, 2 Turtle Doves, and a Paul Win in the Primary
you made me
laugh out loud! I'm happy to stick it to ya! :D
LOL!
Well, he can certainly buy the five gold rings and then some!
Ron Paul now at 6 to 1 odds to win the election
Place your bets on http://www.gambling911.co... They are giving Ron Paul 6 to 1 odds to win. That is getting to be a very good bet. The last time I saw Dr. Paul's odds he was a 65 to 1 shot. I like these odds a whole lt better how about you?
Trade a little money for liberty. What is more important than our freedom?
Not according to sportsbook
Sports book puts him at 4:1 odds:

We've set the one day record! But ...
Since the $3.2 million added to the coffers so far includes the $325K plus dropped in this morning from offline contributions, there is a risk that someone will claim the campaign gamed the system by holding contributions from other days, so we should get past $3.1 million in online contributions alone, making any counterargument invalid. When the total for the quarter is at $6.3 million, there will be no possible challenge to our claim of the all-time record for contributions to a primary candidate. Not the all-time record for a "second tier" candidate, but the all-time record, period.
magic # is $6.2M
ny times reports that is what billary took in on 6/30. Of course, much of that could have been pledged prior to that day and delivered as 'bundles'. But the $3.1 would appear to be the Republican max. Good job guys! Now lets take out Hillarys number
rant.st views on finance, politics and science
Bundling earlier contributions doesn't count
We're talking about the day the contributions were made, and not the day they were deposited. Clinton isn't the only one to try and create an artificial one-day record, as opposed to the real one-day record we're setting today of people actually contributing on the day.
But, heck, we're running out of historic targets at this point, so we might as well treat it as another nice milestone.
Thought was 6.2 million
An article said that Hillary took in 6.2 million in a day in June. Can anyone confirm?
Either way, we have 5 hours to really pour it on. Let's do it!
Not to mention also...
...that Fred Thompson is in a bit of trouble and has basically said that Huckleberry was one of the highest taxing governors that Arkansas ever had..
"Thompson also called Huckabee "very weak on immigration policy" and "one of the highest-taxing governors that we had in this country."

3M?
I believe we just hit 3million. WHOOHOOOO!!!
3.1 million in sight
We're over $2.6 million now and will probably be at $2.7 million before I head home from work.
Since there are probably a fair number of people who planned on contributing after they get home from the daily grind, I'd say $3.1 million is certainly within range now. Hell, we might hit $4 million by midnight.
(Especially if we cheat a bit and use midnight, Hawaii time :-)
PUSH!!!
It would be invaluable if we could break the one day primary record of 3.1 before all the primetime news programs air tonight. LETS ECLIPSE IT BEFORE PRIMETIME!!!
Good catch! Hey if you've
Good catch! Hey if you've been holding out for a slow down to donate, don't. It won't slow down so donate now before the prime time news.
