one really corrupt government. A $65,000 house (in Nov. 2006) has property taxes of $3,900 (in 2009) ... WOW! If you bought the house for 65K, every 17 years you get to pay the price of the house all over again, only these payments go into a black (tax) hole and you don't even get the deed to the property.
The people who are robbing and pillaging: probably a combo of illegal aliens and amoral public school dropouts ... "educated" on those very property tax dollars. I say, privatize the schools, let the parents pay for and decide the curricula, and cut off the crooked politicians, local and federal.
I have a feeling that, for lower end housing at least, demolition is the wave of the future (cheapest out for banks ... and no assets to worry about).
How can any of us consider ourselves free? SLAVES every last damn one of us! You dont "own" shit. You never will. You will keep getting taxed to death until one day you wake up with nothing and you are FORCED to work and all your wages are given to the government.
Just to give a little idea of why the house would not sell. The east side of Detroit looks and is a full blown warzone. On most blocks there are only two or three standing homes and one of those three is a crackhouse. The City of Detroit is dieing and the east side is still leading the charge.
I am surprised that they found a buyer for the 1 dollar price tag. Had that house been on the west side I could see getting it but if you plan on building on the east side you better get a block or two of land just to fence off and turn into a private community.
in the last year I've watched complete neighbourhoods die off leaving small ghost towns , I was watching my local "news" and they were interviewing an old woman who's neighbourhood had vacated. she is 81 and lives alone in this place where the street kids are going through all the houses at night tearing out copper and anythng else worth money. it's like a war zone and this elderly woman who paid off her house years ago is left there.
This is the saddest thing ,imagine working your whole life to be left with constant fear at age 81 ? the last thing she said while in tears in the interview was that " If anything ever happened to me noone would be able to hear me scream for help."
In a few weeks or months
In a few weeks or months that house will probably be burned to the ground. Detroit has major problems and very dangerous areas.
Property taxes way out of wack =

This is not surprizing....
considering the damage that was done to the house, it is also too bad that the tax man and the banking industry are the only ones who really benefit.
