Off Topic - Need advise from the only ones I trust.
Okay - this really is off topic. My husband and I are getting ready to buy a new mattress and are considering the sleep by number. I was wondering if anyone else has tried it, liked it or hated it.
I hope this is okay to post, but I figure this group is the only ones I know who researches the hell out of something, beats it up, shakes it down and kicks it's ass then stands behind it or takes it to the curb.
go figure! thanks in advance!

My chiropractor just recommended it.
He cautioned me to be sure and get a trial period of 30-60 days, whereas you can return or exchange it for a full refund.
My dear friend is a chiropractor and he gets a discount
for pushin it. He couldn't decide on one though.
Am I really joining this conversation?....LOL
I had back surgery two weeks ago, and I have a feeling that our big ole pillow top is way to squishy for me but my wife loves the thing. My parents went to Memphis and their hotel had a sleep number bed and my stepmother absolutely raved about that thing. This woman never has anything positive to say, honestly, never in my life has she had anything positive to say. I haven't even touched one and I'm sold on them. We're building a farmhouse on 40 acres and our pillow top is getting sold in the moving sale! Got some decent prices on Ebay too.
Ok, now don't tell anyone I was in here. :O)
We love ours. 4 years old.
We love ours. 4 years old. Adjustable head and feet and massage. Never use the massage, head and feet occasionally. When I have been on my feet all day, I air my side up to 100 then lay down. If you air it up first, it actually makes a slight bubble good for stretching your back. Remember that your number is when you are laying down. for a few weeks after we first got it we slept great, then my kids changed the setting, so I reset it without me laying down, couldnt figure out why it seemed so hard. Before this, we were going through a matress every year, I am 6'4" 300lbs and we were buying expensive mattresses. Hope this helps.
just bought a mattress
just bought a mattress recently myself, a beauty rest. after being the shrewd skeptical buyer that i am, i was very uninterested in the 'discount' prices being offered. i finally found one that felt like a winner, and found out it was almost a grand. i think i audibly laughed and thanked the salesman for his time. he said as i was walking out the door that they had one for me, the mattress i wanted, for about 400 less than their asking price. what was the catch? well i made sure to find out. midway through the sale i asked him how long ago it was refurbished (just like your electronics). he seemed surprised and said that it wasnt too long ago, the previous owner had it for 3 days before they returned it for not really liking it. they have to industrially clean the mattress and rewrap it before selling it, it was techincally not brand new but i sure as hell would never have been able to tell the difference. near the end of the sale i said i was still reluctant on buying it because i had bet that this would be an 'all sales final' purchase because it was refurbished. with some more surprise he admitted that was the case. about to walk out for the second time, he couldnt help but to attach the 60 day warranty to our refurb/like-brand new purchase. so i took it.
moral of the story is that if the price of the mattress is too good to be true, it might be because youre not getting it brand new, make sure to ask if you have suspicions about it. learn and inquire about all warrantys incase youre unsatisfied, mattresses are pretty major investments if youre looking to get a nice one to last you a while.
I dont know if any given brand has any negative political history to it, i do know of a horror story in jersey where there was a sleep train that was selling frames and mattresses from floor models that were infested with bed bugs. make sure that your mattress is factory sealed, and if refurbished, that it was fully cleaned before you finalize your purchase.
good luck with your purchase :)

Gotta Love DP:
Your post actually made me laugh. Thanks.
So it's off topic. So what, as far as I'm concerned, the better we can make life for ourselves and our fellow man, nothing is off topic. Isn't that what made America great in the first place? To make a better life.
"I figure this group is the only ones I know who researches the hell out of something, beats it up, shakes it down and kicks it's ass then stands behind it or takes it to the curb."
I am in agreement and have truly learned something new every day right here.
I have been sleeping on air mattresses for years and am OK with that I guess.
But I just recently renovated a new bedroom for myself and was thinking about an actual bed.
So here I am cruising through DP and well, what do ya know? I learn about a company called Lifekind. This revolution sure has opened my eyes and changed my life. Much for the better, wiser, and healthier. Thanks for sharing all.
I love my country
I am appalled by my government
lol! my fav subject! mattresses!!
i have a simmons beautyrest diamond ultra with a plush hi-loft pillow top
you will NEVER want to get out of bed! :)
I've got one
I've got an older model, about 8 years, and I love the thing.
The one thing I can warn you of...if you and your husband have completely opposite tastes in soft vs. firm, it can be a problem because the person on the firm side will roll downhill to the soft side.
My wife and I have similar tastes, so it isn't a problem.
It produces an amazing range of feels...from so firm that you're sleeping on the floor to waterbed soft.
I've been really pleased with
the all-natural products from Lifekind. They sell organic mattresses of several types, organic bedding, high quality. I've purchased 3 mattresses made of 100% organic natural rubber, in various sizes for my family, . They are very comfortable, and dealing with the company has been problem-free.
Lifekind also sells an inner spring mattress and a futon style with a natural rubber core. They've shipped to me in California and D.C. The website is www.lifekind.com
About how much do they charge for a twin mattress?
I need one for my daughter.
I had the Select Comfort and really liked it
for a while then I started to hate it. We had the two twin foundations to make a King and put it this way...you cannot use the middle of the bed. I now have a Tempur-Pedic and really like it (about 5 years now)
This is where ..
Truth be known.. this is where I would come for advise too. I don't post a lot but I read a lot here, these people are WONDERFUL! Let me know what you buy and how you like it...we need a new one (mattress) too. :)
we love the sleep by number bed
We have had it for years and swear by it.
We keep our
sleep number at 69.
Waterbed!
I know they're out of fashion, but for my money you can't beat a waterbed for comfort. No pressure points, and they're heated.

You can
do the deed for one month on it and if you don't like it you can send it back.
Could I suggest buying some silver instead.
It might give you a better nights sleep having peace of mind that you secured your personal wealth.
Just a suggestion.
ELFs
My deal is the thought of wiring --- an electrical current--- running underneath me all night during sleep. Does this mattress get plugged in? Does it emit an ELF (electromagnetic low frequency) field? I'm a bit paranoid I suppose --- but I wouldn't use it for the same reasons why I don't use an electrical blanket --- just not proof positive it is 'neutral' to the body.
I love my air mattress
I would suggest going to a mattress store and trying out the many different types before making any decision. A mattress is a big expensive investment and one that is important for your health.
I have an air mattress but not the “sleep number” brand. I had no intention of buying an air mattress. I thought they were just like waterbeds, which I don’t like at all. I tried several different mattresses and when the salesman suggested I try the air mattress I was skeptical. When I laid down on it my entire body went “ahhhh”. I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and am in constant pain so easing pressure points is very important. It has a nice pillow top and I even bought a very plush mattress cover for it to add softness. It is like sleeping on a cloud but even with all this comfort I wake up every few hours with pain in a hip, shoulder, back, etc.
As for drawbacks, yes, it does have to be pumped up frequently. I would say once or twice a week, which I don’t find to be a bother. I keep mine at it’s fullest and still it’s fairly soft. Mine has a 10 year warranty and I’ve had it 7 years now. When I first got it the connectors for the air bladders and the pump didn’t connect properly and it would lose air totally overnight. I contacted the company. They sent me NEW air bladders and pump and since then I really haven’t had any problems with it.
Yes, you will need to buy deep pocket sheets for it. I found some on sale for $20 a set so I got some extras. Watch for sales. If you have a local mattress store they may have a different brand that is like the “sleep number” and you can get it for considerably less that the big brand.
There is nothing like a good night’s sleep so make your investment one you can live with.
Maybe buy
top quality sleeping bags. LOL

Paper Ballots,Hand Counted At The Precinct Or Bust
Ha ha I almost moved in to the
mattress store when looking.
I didn't think they were constructed very well for the top dollar they ask.
My last purchase was a soft squishy foam one, I love it.
The number beds are popular with the individual adjusting feature though.
I don't know that they're bad I just thought the padding and stuff was cheap.
And don't forget those high thread count sheets,(some are better than other's) heaven!
Get a king or queen, not two
Get a king or queen, not two twins pushed together to make a king. You'll have a big crack in the middle that I wish I didn't have. we got it that way so that one person could sit up and read while the other lays flat. I like mine OK, but sometimes it loses air and you have to make sure it's pumped up to your number.

Are sure you belong here? - Trust no-one.
Just kidding. :)
I have one, 8+ years now, it's OK. Nice to have 2 zones and adjustability but they always leak over time. Not a problem, just annoying. You have to keep pumping them up.
Good luck, sleep tight.
Most stores have a warranty.
Ask them what their policies are on the warranty. I wouldn't order it. They can refuse it if it comes back to them damaged. Purchase a mattress pad, it will protect it from stains ( they will not take back if stained ) THEY LOOK FOR THAT.
