From a Defeated Nevada Candidate

My name is Chris Dyer. I ran for the Republican nomination to run against a democrat incumbent (Shelley Berkeley) for Congress in the district where I live. I was in a seven person race. I came in third with almost 15% of the votes.

Last night I watched the early results coming in on a TV at the democrat's victory party, which was held at the Culinary Training Academy. I had planned, if I were winning, to address the people there and tell them that they would have the opportunity to vote for me, a Culinary Union member in November. I was there to begin the battle against my opponent at the first moment possible. As it turned out, I was there to feed my kids and shoot the breeze with my buddy David IsBell’s democratic state assembly opponent.

I left to go to the Republican party to congratulate my opponents. My wife had to bring the kids home first. It’s odd to me that the party of family values would have their victory party in a bar where I can’t bring my family. While I was watching the results come in I saw state GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden talking to some folks. She left before I got a chance to say hello. I also missed my chance to talk to the county GOP chairman Bernie Zadrowski. He left while I was in the parking lot changing out of my suit. I did get to congratulate Russ Mickelson on his second place showing and Ken Wegner on his victory.

Today, while I was working, I got a call and I let it go to voicemail. Shelley Berkeley called me! I called her back and spoke to her for five minutes. She said that she was sure I would have won and was surprised by the results. She told me that while she and Dr. Paul don’t agree much on policy, they have a very friendly relationship. She admires the organization and energy of the Ron Paul supporters.

She invited me to join the democratic party. I told her that I am a Republican, whether my party hates me or not. I’m not going anywhere so she should save her op research on me. I’ll be around for a while. She wished me “minimal success” in my efforts to unseat any of her friends and we said goodbye. It was the highlight of my day to speak to my Congresswoman.

As for the GOP, no phone calls, no e-mails. I feel lonely and abandoned. Perhaps I’ll write a song about it! I still have my IsBell for Assembly race to work for. Do me a favor, visit www.IsBellforNevada.com. Donate, or just say hi.

Thanks to all of you for your help in my race. -Chris Dyer

America Needs Patriots Like Chris Dyer

Not being elected in any given election is merely a hiccup - a temporary delay. Freedom is alive and well in the hearts of America's patriots and awaits the awakening of a citizenry to the need for a rebirth of the principles of liberty in our government operations. Young fighters like Chris are making it happen. Thank you.

Mike IsBell

LOVE you guys!!

Nevada is very proud of Chris, Carl & James as well as our other RP candidates. This is just the start. We know we need to, & can organize. That is the key! This quote says it all for me:

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs-even
though
checkered by failure than to take rank with these poor spirits who
neither
enjoy much or suffer much. Be wise, they live in the gray twilight
that know
not of victory, nor defeat. Nor true sorrow nor true love.
--Theodore Roosevelt

If one ever feels like a political failure, just go look up Abraham Lincoln's win record. Abolutely abysmal. If anyone had reason to quit, he did. He didn't.

Great Job

I am very proud to be from NV, where we had quite a few RP supporters in various races. They all did a great job, and we are off and running on this revolution. I want to thank them all very much. It takes strength, time, dedication, money and character to enter into this political arena. Thanks for doing it!!

Continue on towards the mark before us...

"Defeated candidate" is only in the eyes of the beholder. You are only defeated if you choose to be. Many victories have been won. Many more victories can and will be won. Continue on towards the mark set before us. Freedom, liberties, etc..
Regardless of the process, system or the supposed loyalty of the party, many have been educated and are getting involved. We the people have been making a difference, not only at the local levels, but the state and federal levels as well. WE MUST not let up or back off. Continue the advance for bringing this country to the respect and honor we are fighting for.
I have educated and taught individuals how to become a delegate, precinct leader and now representatives at the state level. I now take pride in knowing that there are one of each that I mentioned in positions now that were not before who believe in the strict adhereance of our constitution. We might have a new state representative the next election cycle in a state that has been taken over by neo cons. I understand and know the system and how to take advantage of the loop holes of the corrupt ways of those in office. I've been around them and I know how to rub elbows with respect with out giving up the standards and values of the constitution. Timing is everything. Learn to have a since of urgency sprinkled with patience.
Study the issues and the law of the constitution. Learn how to talk with respect and confidence. Learn to listen. Speak intelligently. KNOW what you are saying. People will listen if you know the truth of freedom and its benefits.
Ron Paul has the wisdom and knowledge of freedom. He dosnt have the voice or stature of a Ventura. But he dosnt need it when he has the strength from the true freedom message behind him.
Mr. Dyer, I thank you for your strength and courage to run the race. Do not give up. Condition harder and be smarter. This is a notch on the belt of life for you. Learn from this experience and teach anyone who will listen. If each one of us can convert one or two people around us to the freedom message this nation can be the role model for all nations.

You did exceptionally well

You did exceptionally well for a first try. Hang in there..you are certainly not alone..we're with you all the way.

Be of good spirit...be proud of your accomplishment.

I have no idea....

...who Ms. Berkeley is, but if she doesn't agree with much of Ron Paul's views and ideas, I don't think much of her! Don't let the bastards get you down, Chris....keep fighting the good fight for what we all here know is right! What the Dems stand for is nothing short of treason. Chin-up and great job for your first time out..15% ain't nothin' to sneeze at....

Take it Back!

First - Thanks for running!

The ironic thing about your post is that when you say you feel "lonely" in the Republican Party - I know there are so many others all across the county (me included) who have that same feeling.

That tells me we really shouln't feel lonely at all.

We are getting closer and closer to turning that corner. Soon it will be big government, neo-con wing of the party that will feel "lonely" in the GOP.

This is our Party - We are here to TAKE it BACK!

Keep on fighting the good fight and know that you are NOT alone!

15% is a WIN!!!

This was never going to be easy, or fast. You have captured, and educated 15% in your area. That is more then I can say. Well done.

Not bad for one campaign.

You've got to start somewhere, and if any of the Ron Paul Republicans besides the good doctor himself get into the congress this year, that's a 100% gain.

-jcr

Gee

I can't get the GOP to leave me alone. I've donated in the past-before I got education-and now they snail mail and call constantly. Consider yourself lucky. I don't want to hear from them right now anyway. Until they shape up, I am not the person they need to be calling.

I'm glad to hear a democrat speak logically of Ron Paul.

Thank YOU, Chris. For all of

Thank YOU, Chris. For all of your work and dedication, and continued and better successes..
Persistence is fertile!

Thanks Chris!

I had a blast campaigning for you, and I know that it's not over. The encouraging comments alone are enough to tell us to keep going, keep campaigning for you, and we'll get you in there yet! Besides, all us sad Republicans need something to do to drive the thorn farther into the side of people like the joker!

Thanks Chris

Chris,

Thanks you for all your hard work, I am sure you reached many people with your message of Liberty. We are much stronger because of YOU!

Freedom isn't Free.

Wow! I'm really

Wow! I'm really impressed.... it's great to hear stories like this of people.... even people from here on our little site, doing great things like this. Even though you didn't win, the fact that you had the respect of your would be opponent, a member of Congress, and garnered 15% of the vote is impressive.

I wish I was old enough to run/was prepared with the experience/foundation necessary.... but I'll have to wait a few more years. Hopefully by then there won't be a need to try.

Losing Sucks!

I must start off with that, because after all it does!! It is no fun working your butt off travelling the state, getting over 7000 votes, spending thousands out of your own pocket and using the hard earned money of those who donate to your campaign, and finding out that will only be 14% of the vote. But, there are certain things we can all take away from this. Between Chris, Carl Bunce, and myself, we got twice as many votes as Dr. Paul did finishing second in the state. We can even throw in the 3000 votes Jesse Law received as he was a Constitutionalist as well. The R3VOLUTION is alive and growing in Nevada.

Also, outside of Dean Heller and Jon Porter, James Smack received more physical votes then anyone else in any other race with Republican next to their name. I address this in the third person because it is the voters and volunteers that did the work to get there. The Smack Campaign received more votes in just District 2 than John McCain got in the whole state in January!!!

Now, we start working our butt off for candidates like David IsBell. I will be working for a Constitutional Judge Candidate in my area who is right up the same alley as Dr. Paul. I will work to help Scott Kelley, a Ron Paul guy, to achieve victory in his Washoe County School Board race. I will help Mike Darby win a seat on the Pahrump Town Board, as he is a Revolutionary who made it to the November runoff.

And, I will weigh my options...there are several statewide offices that are up for election in two years. It is my opinion Congressman Heller may run for Governor, which opens his seat up for me to run again. Good ol' Harry Reid is also up in two years...wouldn't that be fun? I do know that if I'm going to pursue a statewide office, I will decide rather soon and give myself 18 months to campaign instead of three.

And, of course, I want to talk to Chris...no need for both of us to run for the same thing!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Chris.

In Liberty,
James Smack

One of those votes you got

was from me! I was so proud to vote for you and only wish the results had been different. Dean Heller is a tough nut to crack but your showing was terrific and I love that stat that you pulled more votes in one district than McCain did in the whole State back in January! Go Smack...whatever office you decide to run for, I have a very positive feeling about the momentum you will have gained.

For Chris...think of it this way. You got a bronze, you medaled. Go Chris, go USA. There is gold in our future.

IT'S DOABLE

James

thank you for your input, hard work, dedication etc. The whole system is towards the incumbents, who already have a superior warchest and I know Heller this time also got the endorsement of the club for growth.
Yes, the three of you only had a very short time to campaign. One can understand you feel down, but do not let it get to you. Think positive about the immediate future and your strategies. If you have some political or public position in the next 2 years, it will help you a lot for congress next time. All your trouble is not in vain. You have some name recognition, website and experience now which you did not had before. One can only go step by step from strength to strength. You have to fight for liberty, you have have lost the first battle, but this will only give you power and inspiration to win the war. Very good that you could improve on Dr. Paul's primary totals, with much less money and name recognition. Numbers growing are important.

Chris Dyer

Thank you for your courage. Sounds like you did great. And I can only imagine how much you have learned from this experience. You are talking the talk and walking the walk.

Chris Dyer, I don't know you

Chris Dyer, I don't know you but I have the feeling that you're a true HERO of our revolution. Thanks for everything you've done and for everything you will do.

You Are An Inspiration

we thank you -
stay strong - keep on!
we need folks like you -

You did great

and the best of the three NV RP candidates and the only one in a Democratic area. I suppose your competitor that won had much more money. I suppose Shelly Berkeley - who voted for the war - is relieved you are not the GOP nominee, but she would have been favored to win in any case as this year seem to be one for the Democrats. You got some campaign experience and almost finished in second place. Think of it, the guy that won the primary will probably lose and not be able to compete in 2010 in the primary. That could be the perfect time for you to win the primary (and seat) in 2010, when - if things go right, it should be a strong year for the Republicans with Dr. Paul to retake congress, like in 1994.

If the Dems win the presidency and in congress/seats, people will be inclined to vote for the opposition (GOP) in 2010 for some balance and by then the GOP has probably started returning to its roots.

You have some name recognition now and also received the endorsement of the RLC, which means a lot. DO not be too disheartened with the cold shoulder of the GOP. Dr. Paul has faced this situation for decades, but he is now stronger as ever and will make breakthroughs in
the coming months and years, I am sure.

Thanks

You are making a difference.

I got a call from the Republicans asking if I want to be an election judge. I just might. At least I know things will be honest on my watch!

Wow, what a beautiful

web site and family. Don't give up or get down we are just getting started.
I give a donation tomorrow going to bed. Peace

Thank you Chris

You are a trailblazer, and your efforts were not in vain.

Thank you.
Michael

Thanks for running, Chris . . .

You guys did an awesome job.

Thanks to all our candidates who had the guts to run.

Chris Dyer! You did great!

You came in 3rd in a seven person race and that is amazing!! You set a great example for so many to get in there and fight! Don't give up or get down ..you have everything to be proud of and many that are admiring you for stepping up!

I loved the song you made of Sue Lowden BTW ...I thought it was great!!!Maybe post it here for those that haven't heard it!

CHRIS DYER

CHRIS I had a similar experience in PA. I ran for a TWP. supervisor
position & FROM the begining I was on my own. THE party clique runs thiings in LANC CO & if you aint in, you aint in. I beat the DEM in the secondary But lost to another REP write in. OH, well I had some better things going so I didn't persue any more positions in politics ... WE have around here what I call the Mennonite Mofia. I did change to DEM party so I could vote for a, possible, better man during primaries. IT was just a name change not ideals.
SO hang in there you'll get another shot if you persue it.
HANGING OUT WITH,
TLF

You didn't lose

Having the courage to start the journey of taking back the country is a big step. And you don't know how many other people you affected during your campaign. You can't expect to turn around 50 - 100 years of corruption in the country in one election. We must all "take back the ship" (as G. Edward Griffin would say) by affecting a few people at a time.

Keep up the good work, and when you feel lonely, just remember the videos of Dr. Paul standing there year after year giving his speeches to an empty chamber........ and never realizing that one day all of that work would inspire a Revolution that would change the world.

Never give up and congratulations on entering the fight.

I agree you didnt loose.

Thank you for all your hard work!

Congrats on your showing in

Congrats on your showing in the election. You arent alone though.
Youll get em next time.

If she seemed sure you would have won,

is there any way that there may have been some vote fraud? The minute I saw you mention Lowden, that's one of the first things that went through my head.

Chris, ...

YOU are one of the real HEROs in this Campaign for Liberty! Never forget that. You ran w/the first of many batons that will be passed from one freedom fighter to the next. Be proud. I am very proud of you!!

doing the right thing is

doing the right thing is often lonely. someday, you'll be able to tell the people that matter most to you, that you tried to make a difference. you participated.

its' a beautiful thing.

You did a great job!

So when do we start campaigning for your next run?

Nice shoes btw!

Chris, We Appreciate Your Efforts

I'm not in your district, but I did vote for James Smack and I think you did a terrific job. I did send you a small donation...sorry it couldn't have been more...and unlike some, I laughed and enjoy your "love song" to Sue Lowden. Ron Paul has said to have fun and enjoy ourselves along the way, and that little diddy of yours came at a good time for some laughter.
Remember....Rome wasn't built in a day and you are delightfully young with lots of time to make a big impression on the political scene. Good luck to you in the future in all you do...and, oh, please do it for us, we need good Republicans.

IT'S DOABLE

Thanks for all your hard work Chris

Don't give up, you'll be celebrating next time!

Quick update

The Nevada GOP just called me right after I posted this. They asked me to donate money to the party. I told the nice girl on the phone that this was the first contact I have had with the party since I lost my election last night. I did tell her that I will be donating directly to REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES. Not to the REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Is there any wonder why they

Is there any wonder why they are going to get dominated this election cycle?

Well, congrats that you came in

3rd , anyway. And welcome to our group. And sorry you didn't win, we really need freedom loving people to win. And thanks for running, too.

Great job!

Thanks for being proactive in trying to directly change Washington yourself. It's all about spreading the message, and I look forward to hearing about your victory party in a few years!

haha That comment about her asking your to join the Democratic Party is comical. It just represents her lack of political philosophy with even the suggestion that one could change their party allegiance at the drop of a hat. That's Washington for you unfortunately.

Well, it's not like the GOP

is based on any principles.

I would advise to mooch off whichever of the two parties will get you on the ballots and the debates, Dems or Repubs.

What can I say?

The GOP is a sham 'cept for a few glitches in the system that inserted Taft, Goldwater, Buffett, Reagan, and Paul in between hundreds of statists....
