Paul Craig Roberts: "President Bush, will you please shut up?"

http://www.counterpunch.o...

Just to cite a passage expressing my sometimes eurocentric feelings:

"What does America offer Europe, aside from the millions of dollars it pays to buy off Europe’s political leaders to insure that they betray their own peoples? Nothing whatsoever.

The only military threat that Europe faces comes from being dragged into America’s wars for American hegemony.

The US is financially bankrupt, with budget and trade deficits that exceed the combined deficits of the rest of the world together. The dollar has wilted. The American consumer market is dying from the offshoring of American jobs and, thereby, incomes, and from the wealth effect of the real estate and derivatives collapses. The US has nothing to offer Europe. Indeed, American economic decline is killing European exports by driving up the value of the euro."

Thought It Was Only Me.....

.......who is getting to despise my government. It is heartening to hear that some of you feel likewise. America does not have the capacity to see itself as others see us. But our day of reckoning is coming. I am sure there are many U.S. citizens contemplating moving to another country just to get away from this lunacy -- and the crap propaganda our MSM feeds us daily. Ugh. However does Ron Paul do it! God Bless him..

I like Robert's final

I like Robert's final statement, in which he declares that the US is no longer a superpower.

He's essentially correct. The closest thing there is at the moment to a global superpower is China..because the GOP neo-cons and liberal Democrats sold out our economy to them in Clinton's second term.

The US is becoming a doddering empire crumbling at its edges, the way Britain was a century ago. What even Paul Craig Roberts fails to point out, however, is that this empire is not only despised by the rest of the world, but despised by the majority of its own citizens.

SUPPORT OUR FOUNDERS' AMERICA
Support the Constitution of the United States

Completely agree, Kevin!

Kevin, I could not agree with you more. Even in the Georgia/Russia conflict, I find myself on the side of Russia. Georgia started the fight. Russia finished it. Don't listen to the MSM garbage spewed out on cable TV, etc. We are definitely involved in this mess. There is no way Georgia would invade Ossetia without the go-ahead from Washington. We are the axis of evil. Wherever there is shit, you will find the U.S. in the middle of it.

Ouch!!!

That was a left hook to the gut followed by a right cross to the temple~

President Reagan negotiated the end of the cold war with Soviet President Gorbachev.,The neoconservatives, whom Reagan fired and drove from his administration, were furious. The neocons had hoped to win the cold war, thereby establishing American hegemony.

The Republican Establishment reestablished its hegemony under Bush 1st that it had lost to Ronald Reagan. With this feat, intelligence was driven from the Republican Party.

Question: Considering modern technology and all that it can accomplish, isn't it a little stupid to try to smuggle your own troops into the ranks of another country's and not expect anyone to notice? Boy we've got some real bright *leaders*, now, don't we...?

I think our leaders

are getting sloppy confident. I hope they are surprised when they get slapped down. I think they think they can do anything they damn well please because they have for soooo long. Finally, they are being watched carefully and people know what they are up to. Now we must stop them.

Perhaps Europe would like to

Perhaps Europe would like to provide for its own defense instead of having the US taxpayers pay for it. What have we gotten out of that deal? A bunch of ill informed morons that think Socialism works because they look to Europe and see how *wonderful* it is, not understanding the only reason those economies are even afloat is because the money they save on not having to provide for their own defense is being dumped into their socialist endeavors.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as much against a foreign policy of intervention as everyone else, I just feel Europe should keep its mouth shut as they were quick to acquiesce to US defense when the Soviet Union was busy taking over Eastern Europe.

Yes, we would if somebody

Yes, we would if somebody was listening to us. USA wants to build 2 new bases in Europe - 1 in Czech Rep. (radar) and 1 in Poland (rackets). I don't know how in Poland but there is 65+% (official polls!) people against it in Czech. The whole situation is very suspicious - current government is very weak (it took about 5 months to get enough votes to create government) and US placed the request 2 HOURS after the government was set up.

The point is that we don't request US army to come here and protect us but the army wants to come and is not welcomed. Isn't that funny? You want your man and money back home and we don't want military installations here. It is in perfect harmony and still we won't get it.

Btw. Poland will get few batteries of Patriots as a part of the deal. Hope you won't miss them...

Well said.

In Poland the discussions seems not to have started yet. http://www.isn.ethz.ch/ne...

Interesting though: " In any public debate, newly elected Defense Minister Radoslaw Sikorski will likely emerge as a champion of the plans. From 2002 to 2005, he was a resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, a conservative think tank viewed as close to the Bush administration."

Apparently there is a neocon pawn in the Polish cabinet.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

hmmm...very interesting...

A couple weeks back, was reading here about the Avian Flu vaccine trials on homeless vagrants in Poland, (where several suffered horrible deaths), and wondered how THAT connection was made. Now, we know!!

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention!

Never heard about that.

Do you have a link? Sounds a bit like Dr. Mengele is back.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Actually

with 28.38 Billion €/41,69 Billion $ or 11 % of our federal budget, apart of all the 'accomodation costs' we have to pay for NATO-troops stationed in Germany, is quite a lot for a nation 'surrounded by friends' . Apart of this I, don't know why we send troops to Afghanistan (and more than 22 died already), if not to pay tribute for being a cohort of the US.
I am sure the mayority of the people here would welcome the dissolution of NATO. No one does seriously expect the Russian to invade us.
As I often said, implementing Ron Paul's non-interventional foreign policy would make the US much more popular again here.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Agreed!

no more entangling alliances- with anyone, Arab states or Israel, Europe or anywhere else.

Libera me, let the truth break, what my fears make--Leslie Phillips

that is a little harsh

NeoConned said, not understanding the only reason those economies are even afloat is because the money they save on not having to provide for their own defense is being dumped into their socialist endeavors.

Having lived, worked, and traveled in Europe, I can say that while US military spending does provide economic impact around bases (particularly the large Army bases in Germany), this is not the cause of Europe's economic success.
Economic success comes from finding and exploiting comparative advantage.

Also, I experienced that parts of their socialism did work - to varying degrees in the various countries. I also experienced that parts of the socialism did not work. The -->culture<-- of the country appeared to be the largest factor on social cohesiveness and resulting success/struggle of socialist policies.

we dont want

and don't need no us arms or troops here.

all hostilities with Russia is due to US aggressive actions.

If the Us leaves here the tension will be much less.

Perhaps spend some time

Perhaps spend some time convincing your governments of that because Im sick of my taxpaying dollars being spent there and my fellow citizens looking to Europe's "socialist success" without understanding why it has worked this long.

Also, please don't misunderstand. I concur with the article wholeheartedly.

unfortunately

the politicians here to are bought and paid for and support whatever Washington says. It does not reflect the people though.

I´ll be sure to vote the right way next election at least.

My country is neutral and have never had any us troops here, but I guess many other do.

NeoConned

though I agree with you, that the US should cease spending on its military presence here, you have to see, that our 'elites' are largely educated and paid by the same people and institutions that push your country to this interventionist foreign policy.
After the 'Iron Curtain' came down, I am sure most people would have said "thank you and please prepare your final bill for your expenses, dear Americans". Instead our politicians kept us in treaties (like NATO) that were now instrumented for neocon imperial politics. At least since 9/11 we are hardly allowed here to critisize this without being called 'anti-american'.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Yes, it is a shame that a

Yes, it is a shame that a small handful of people around the globe are controlling all of OUR wealth. I'm NOT ok with my nation supplying arms to the rest of the planet then trying to butt it's nose in when those we have supplied get into a skirmish with one another. It's utter lunacy.

I am so disgusted with my countries foreign and domestic policies I could literally puke, but usually I just drink whiskey instead ;) Thanks for seeing my point of view and responding with kindness. Hopefully Ron Paul politicians will start springing up in your part of the world as well. A global freedom movement to get out from under the thumb of these psychos currently in power is definitely needed for the longevity of our species.

Definetly!

I just read Chancellor Merkle advocates Georgia to become a NATO member http://www.novinite.com/v.... Utter madness. She is just a pawn like Saakashvili.
In the end we agree, NeoConned. And I would like to have a decent whiskey too now. But I have had enough wine for tonight - LOL.

And you remind me, I have to work on the White Rose http://www.dailypaul.com/... .

How about this chilling last

How about this chilling last paragraph that was in Pravda..GEEZE we have to get those men out of the White House!

"The US is not a superpower. It is a bankrupt farce run by imbeciles who were installed by stolen elections arranged by Karl Rove and Diebold. It is a laughing stock, that ignorantly affronts and attempts to bully an enormous country equipped with tens of thousands of nuclear weapons."

Where has our peaceful and open and friendly democratic government gone?

USA Bully

In God We Trust!

Yes, it bullies not only our country here in the USA but has become a global bullie and I am routing for the underdogs.

USA is vomit as is, and needs a complete overhaul.

May Almighty God help us
