Amish Population Nearly Doubles In 16 Years

"Amish Population Nearly Doubles In 16 Years"

Wed Aug 20, 7:07 PM EDT
The Amish are expanding their presence in states far beyond Pennsylvania Dutch country as they search for affordable farmland to accommodate a population that has nearly doubled in the past 16 years, a new study found.

States such as Missouri, Kentucky and Minnesota have seen increases in their Amish populations of more than 130 percent. The Amish now number an estimated 227,000 nationwide, up from 123,000 in 1992, according to researchers from Elizabethtown College's Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies.

Over the same period, Amish settlements have been established in seven new states, putting them in at least 28 states from coast to coast. The new states are: Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Washington and West Virginia.

"When we think they might be dying out or merely surviving, they are actually thriving," said Elizabethtown professor Don Kraybill, a leading expert on the Amish who shared his research from an upcoming book with The Associated Press.

Pay attention opportunity seekers.
1. Demand for land.
2. Barter partners who KNOW how to run ag farms
3. They quietly and legally are resisting the NAIS and REAL ID.
4. They were never on the grid, except for some of their money.

The Amish communities in Mexico...

have been so successful that the Mexican government has prohibited them from buying and owning any more land. The Mexican do not like the fact the Amish keep their own culture which includes maintaining English and German as their primary languages.

Interesting...

I've never seen an actual Amish or Mennonite person in Texas. Wonder if they're planning to come here? We've got lots of cheap land....

that's not all

You all have some pretty aggressive and out of control governmental officials (as the FLDS found out) as well.

The amish epitomize

The amish epitomize jeffersonianism and are a perfect example of how communities can thrive through voluntarism instead of a nanny-state

From 1996 to 1999 I did business exclusively with Amish (85%)

and 15% Mennonite.

I never made so much money and had so much fun. $5,000 to $10,000 a week and dressing down was a must. Mondays and Fridays off!

I had dinner with them, went to their auctions, barn raisings, flea markets and even peed in their horse stalls.

They referred me to each other. I always had appointments. I could never figure out how the word traveled so fast even though most had no phones back then.

I miss them.

But I plan to do more with them in the next few years. More are moving towards southwestern Pennsylvania now.

In

Ohio somewhere. Used to be anyway.

In Indiana is a clan, maybe more than one. Seymour, Indiana area, but I haven't been there in 6 years or so.

Ohio

It's my understanding that Holmes County, Ohio has the largest settlement of Amish in the U.S. Whenever I visit relatives in Ohio, we always make a trip to Amish country. The farms are beautiful, and it's not as commercialized as Lancaster, PA. There's also a large settlement in Indiana.

Think of all the chemicals

they don't get exposed to like we do through what we eat, drink, wear, wash our clothes in, etc. Pretty tough to stay away from in this day and age, but they still make their own soap!

Also

think of all the media propaganda they are not exposed to. They also have no energy crisis and are true libertarians, closest to the founding fathers.

they are a long-established example

of self-reliant, peaceful communities that go their own way and don't bother anyone else. when I lived on the east coast, I used to buy raw dairly and other organic products from them. Very positive, sweet, honest people.

Many are considering leaving Pennsylvania

Recently the gustapo Department of Ag has confiscated the farm of a guy who was selling raw dairy products.

The government has got to go.
