AP: Will young Paul supporters stay with the GOP?
WASHINGTON (AP) — While this year's presidential election shows signs of drawing in more young voters than any since 1992, the candidates who pulled some of them into the Republican race are long gone — and it's unclear whether they've taken their young supporters with them.
Once former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Texas Rep. Ron Paul were both out of the race, their many young supporters were faced with a choice: Should they switch to the party's pick, find another candidate, cast a write-in vote or sit the election out?
Huckabee and Paul appealed to young voters for qualities not associated with presumed nominee John McCain — Huckabee for his conservative Christianity and Paul for his anti-war libertarianism.
Most members of Huck's Army, a Web site for Huckabee supporters, plan to follow his advice to back McCain, although a number have "some reservations," said David Schmidt, 23, executive director of the site.
Paul has not endorsed another candidate and says his supporters "should do whatever they want." But at a party the night before a recent rally in Washington, he told one Paulite, "The contest is to get as many votes as we can to not support the two major candidates."
Electing a third-party candidate "would be the best thing for the country," Paul said. "Whether (Obama) wins or McCain wins, policies won't change."

I am new here, but ..
Have been reading a long time (every day) since the debates. I have made 4 donations to RP and have posted on Digg when RP was the man.
Just thought I would post this for folks who have not seen yesterday's Glenn Beck show.

Hey thanks..
for that link. I want the media mentioning our Rally and our campaign so people will go check it out!!! Welcome To The DAILY PAUL :)
Im staying
Its the only way we are going to make a long term difference. The GOP is in shambles. Nobody.. I repeat.. NOBODY really wants to vote for McCain. Ive been to the GOP meetings locally and its a shame the sheep herd mentality.
Once the GOP fails, we can rebuild it. It will only take us a few years to make a difference. Stay united with an eye on the prize. We need to be patient and stick together.
And Im writing Paul in. Barr voted for the Patriot Act... I cant trust him.
I wish nobody wanted to vote
I wish nobody wanted to vote for McCain...but if you haven't noticed, he's making up ground. There's a 50/50 chance right now that he'll take the win.
The media is in on this too.
Remember large parts of the media used to love McCain. It wouldn't take a whole lot for some of them to have second thoughts on Obama, and start pushing McCain. Or perhaps it's related to ratings, or who knows what.
Don't be surprised when Obama loses. I thought Obama had a lock on this thing, but now I'm far less sure to the point, that I give a 50/50 shot. Either one is just a few diebold machines away from a loss or victory.
Who are they kidding?
OLD Ron Paul supporters won't stay with the GOP. I've been around since Goldwater, and I've had enough treachery.
The GOP in its present state
The GOP in its present state is unacceptable. Thanks to a group of RP enthusiasts in the Idaho party however, I will stay with it and help them return it to being the party of small government and personal liberty and responsibility. Ron Paul isn't about the election, he is about the r3VOLution and the future of our nation.
Agree
Only if they clean their house up substantially.
I mean, painting the walls and replacing the carpet.

What a bunch of BS they
What a bunch of BS they spent most of the article talking about Huckabee's youthful supporters. BS No way he had more of the youth vote than RP.
I will stay with the GOP...
only with Ron Paul winning the nomination. Or future pro-liberty, pro-constitution candidates who tell the truth.
I Think Not
I don't think very many Ron Paul supporters will be sticking with McCain. I will be voting for Bob Barr myself.
Ron Paul for the Long Haul
Ron Paul write in baby! Young Paul supporters unite~
Exactly how did they get this information?

They're Other People Besides US In The GOP?
:) That's what 'cha call news AP ...
Yes, stay with Ron Paul
and his platform and follow his advice: vote for Barr, Baldwin or Nader. The more third party opposition to the status quo get, the better. Not voting or writing Paul's name in will send NO message and may not be counted (or they can just change/manipulate a Ron Paul write-in to a vote for McCain or Obama), whereas voting for a third party candidate will send a message. None of the three third party candidates are on the same level as Ron Paul, but they are close enough to warrant a vote.
Independent Write-In For Ron Paul
Don't care what anybody says. Have had it with third parties. "Constitution Party" for instance. Was a member for three years. 57 "delegates" voted against the very motto of the party: "Principle Over Politics" on April 21, 2006. Now, one of these is the veep nominee! This infamous Hz 57 included the founder, Howard Phillips. Not to say I'm running tail between the legs back to the "RNC". Never that.
I vow never to give money to any party again. Stay Independent.
The time tested candidate is: Ron Paul
See ya in Minnesota!

Well Said
I agree completely. You said it well.
They consider me young?
Hot diggity!
this article bothered me
because I check out McCain and Obama's sites all the time, to keep an eye on what they're up to. But they won't be getting my vote.
YES! YES!
Go Huckabee go!

I really enjoyed reading this and it shows that we are still highly engaged in the movement.

If the GOP's access to ballots and debates can
be effectively exploited, yes.
If not, then no.
Additionally, RP's message has about as much
to do with the GOP as it does with the Democrat Party-- that is just about nothing. The politicians in both parties despise liberty.
Pro-liberty minded people should exploit any party that gets them what they need.
Liberty is the message. Parties are just a tool.
I'll be staying with Ron
I'll be staying with Ron Paul and the REAL Republican platform.
