ScienceDaily (Oct. 14, 2005) — Most drugs of abuse decrease the generation of new neurons in the brain, but the effects of marijuana on this process, called neurogenesis, had not been clear.
In a paper appearing online on October 13 in advance of print publication of the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Xia Zhang and colleagues from University of Saskatchewan show that a potent and synthetic cannabinoid promotes neurogenesis. This drug also exerts anti-anxiety and antidepressant-like effects.
The researchers suggest that there is a positive correlation between increased adult neurogenesis and modified behavior following chronic cannabinoid treatment. These data expand the existing knowledge about the positive roles cannabinoids and their receptors play in brain processing and medicine. Moreover, cannabinoids are perhaps the only illicit drug that can enhance adult neurogenesis and subsequently modify behavior.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with what's being said here. Smoking pot from my experience is just stupid.
I personally can't stand the way it makes me feel.
Immoral? It's your body you can destroy it however you want. Should it be illegal? Hell no.
I've been around a ton of people that smoke pot on a daily bases. I'm smarter than they are, I'm stronger than they are, and I'm healthier.
When I'm around the ones that smoke when they are smoking, I feel like I'm around a bunch of babies and toddlers. No intelligent conversation is going on.
On the subject of ADD, it seems to make these people worse than normal.
Could it help someone in MODERATION? Probably but how many potheads smoke in moderation?

To make any study believeable...
you need to leave out any parts about the lab animals. ("New nerve cells have been shown to form in rats given a cannabinoid" etc.)
Whatever "findings" made from a lab animal cannot be extrapolated to humans, so therefore the information is not only unimpressive but those tests were unnecessary.
What, there wasn't enough human volunteers to smoke pot and get their brains scanned in these lab experiments?
All drug lab experiments should stop and people should be able to take, smoke, drink, etc. whatever the hell they want.
P.S. Of course, it's good for you -- it's a plant.

I often need to use a meat tenderizer, as my meat is usually so tough and hard. In fact, one could say that I am frequently beating my meat. It is best not to pound it so hard that blood begins to flow, however.

Actually, I was not attacking pot per se as a medicine, but just pot SMOKING. I suspect the brain-damaging effects from smoking it are due to the free radicals and polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAM's, or polynuclear aromatics, PAN's, whichever you prefer) found in smoke, and not inherently from the cannabis itself --- ALL smoke is very oxidizing and tissue-damaging.
I was really just trying to make a little joke in my original post, dude. Trying, and apparently failing. Some people have such thin skins --- like they're cyber-peaches: "Fragile, handle with care".
