Out of curiosity, I took a brief look at defense section in that manual, and intend to analyze the rest of it in more depth later. First impression: DO NOT take everything in that thing as credible. 3 minutes in and I already discredit a lot of it. Some examples:
Pg 146 – Shotguns
“… when you fire a shotgun at close range it is impossible to miss…” This is outright WRONG. You can miss, and under stress, you likely will. The shot cup holds the pattern together for about 20 feet, depending on the load. The spread has a general rule of one foot of travel per inch of shot spread. Anyone who has taken basic hunter safety (at least in my state) should have been taught this.
An ounce of shot at room distance even with no choke is no more different than using a slug. It is insufficient distance to spread the shot pattern. I demonstrate this in the killhouse and static ranges in every defensive shotgun class I teach.
“gun shows are always a good place to shop for deals on ammo.” This is only half true. Gun shows are a good place to find a deal and keep things off the books, but it’s also a good place to get ripped- the hell- off. If you don’t know what you’re looking at- take someone with you who does (preferably a gunsmith you know or an instructor of reputable stature). Let the buyer beware.
As far as the choices of firearms for ladies, etc… Most of this is incorrect, or some of it is correct but leaves out important details. I do not have the time to write all of it out right now, but if there’s a demand, maybe I’ll write something later. I teach a lot of ladies to shoot, and there is much more involved than what is stated. The only thing they stated in there I can get behind is to seek good training. That much they have right.
But I offer some advice as an instructor with 23 years of experience- be careful what you read both in these manuals, and what you read here from people- most of them I have seen are just as ignorant or misinformed on the subject as the person seeking knowledge.

As with most Socialists, he has a very poor understanding of private property rights. For the record, when I saw video of looting they weren't taking food, they were taking DVD players, clothing, beer, electronics, etc... The constitution clearly allows for private security and even militias. Post 9-11, Ron Paul himself advocated sending in mercenaries after Al Queda (surgical, precise target) rather than sending the US army against several entire nations. He advocated letters of marque to keep the mercenaries in line. Ron Paul is right on the money - better to spend less and target a specific enemy rather than kill thousands with the government army the way we have. Also worth noting is that Blackwater arrived *before* FEMA. Private enterprise is usually superior.

The national guard of that state should be in charge of defending the state, and in case of emergency, they should have the power to call other states to help.

After the Katrina fiasco regarding gun confiscations many States passed laws that completely prohibited confiscation of legally owned firearms all all, regardless of whether it was national emergency, weather related, etc. Here's an article about that: http://www.stateline.org/...
The US Government also followed with their own version of similar legislation. Refer to Section 706 of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2007 (HR 5441). Here's a link: http://www.govtrack.us/co...
And here is the pertinent text from section 706:

Know your enemy my fellow citizens. Blackwater USA is ready to move against us. They will shoot us and have no qualms about it.
I consider it an act of war against sovereign citizens when the Federal government enters a free state under color of authority with an army or private mercenaries. They are preparing to close this country down.
Like I have said before, not all of the contractors are like this. Some of us (gasp) are actually on your side. I’m living proof, as are most of the crews I work with. BW has really shit in their mess kit and given the rest of us a bad name, so now we’re stereotyped with them.
Just to let you know, their actions have really pissed off a LOT of us, nor I or any of my colleagues will work with them, and we will not affiliate with them. In fact, most groups won’t. They are unprofessional in their conduct, and most private clients want discreet professional security that doesn’t cause a scene. They value communication skill and conflict avoidance, not Rambo.
I was in New Orleans 48 hours after the storms subsided, and I could go on for a long time about things there, but suffice it to say it was a mess, and some of what was reported was misinformation to sensationalize things- other things weren’t. BW made my group’s job a living hell because of their actions down there.
Bottom line though, if things do get out of control and SHTF, be careful who you go after if they are in full kit. There will be a great deal of us who will be fighting FOR you, not against you. I will be one of them.
But if they get attacked by some yahoo who shoots at anything in tactical gear, I can tell you that if you hit the wrong ones, you will lose miserably. The client’s life depends on our ability to prevent, or if necessary to combat a threat and we dedicate our lives solely to training for it every day we aren’t assigned. Paintball practice on the weekends or being good at playing counterstrike isn’t going to cut it with them. Citizens play at it, we live and breathe it. Just know that a lot of us are your ally and don’t mistake us for the bad guy.
Think before you squeeze the trigger, because it might be me. LOL
Many people can't/won't take the time or aren't physically able to personally train for self defense and have the right to contract with private defense organizations. Those organizations should be trained as you outline to preserve their good reputations and public support.
...unless the US is invaded by ground forces. Do you? I really don't understand your position. I appreciate your personal integrity as I can interpret it from your post, but it is not how you do your job, but rather that your job exists that concerns me. I take it you are good with the corporatization/privatization of the military? Does it not create even more conflicts of interest than are already inherently involved in the initiation of all military actions? Truly, the extreme increase in military and police contracting to me is one of the clearest signs a dangerous military-industrial complex. Please, convince me otherwise.
You also have to remember that I am not exclusively a contractor. I primarily work in the private sector or for visiting dignitaries, as do most of my colleagues. I don't just train exclusively for combat.
I study electronic security, I keep up on crime reports, I network with police and find out if the client is going to be in a rough neighborhood when he arrives, I talk to store owners in advance of arrival to see if there's disabled access for a client, I keep up on new tactics criminals use to steal identity, corporate espionage reports, world events in case the client is traveling abroad, the whole works. I constantly train and study for all possible threats, not just an attack, but I fill the role to protect someone else when they are unable or unsure how to do it themselves. That is the purpose of my job's existence. But unlike the military, I can quit on the spot if I think something is fucked up or immoral.
I have a huge liability to think about if something happens, and I can be convicted just like you can, so I have to know the law and study. I have bonding and insurance and a license just to do my job. I can't just go pushing people around or breaking cameras. The client will fire you on the spot, likely sue you, and so will the guy you pushed or broke the camera with.
As far as military contracting- it's the same game, just higher threat. I have a background in military, so I am able to go into hot spots and still effectively protect someone or something, whereas many private security wouldn't have a clue what to do first because they lack experience in that environment. BW, again, is full of idiots, but they have top end influence. Half the crap they pull is not only unethical, but if I were to do it, I'd be history.
Nothing specific that might betray a "confidence" but just a general reference to what type of entity it was that felt the need to have an armed force assembled within our countries borders. The fact that you "live and breathe" this type of activity and are ready and willing to utilize weaponry and tactics which are generally unavailable to the American populace shows a pittiful disrespect to your fellow citizens as well as our countries Constitution. But then again, after seeing the price some people can net by acting like badass bullies, I'm not surprised. Just tell me how I could distinguish someone such as you, who claims to be fighting for me, as opposed to, I'm gonna snag your term here, a gang of government yahoo's who are against everything our founding fathers fought and sacrificed so much to protect us from? A Merc's only alliegence is to the dollar and groups such as the Pinkertons have fully demonstrated just how constitutionaly minded they are.
I worked for several clients there- a hospital, a hotel, the city engineers, gun shops, a few others. I took teams out to recover hijacked trucks of red diesel for generators so the hospitals could be brought online, I escorted the engineers and CDC personnel through unsecured buildings so they could test the water or get the power up in buildings, I did search and rescue, protected firefighters and their trucks, I locked down buildings and cleared rooms because people were breaking in and stealing morphine, demerol, prescription drugs and medical equipment, guns, etc. Some people asked us to go to their house and recover precious art or valuables so they weren't stolen. I also escorted salvation army people in who were bringing ice and food to people. The list is huge- I was there for a month.
My medics rendered aid to people we came across who were injured and we tried to either evacuate them if they wanted to leave, or we escorted them home if that is what they wanted to do. On occasion we found someone who was just hiding and trying to stay safe, and though we understood, we couldn't allow them to stay in the client's building. We would take them home or get them out of the town if they wanted out. There were times my guys broke up fights and arrested looters, and not one of my crew confiscated a firearm unless it was shot at us. Fortunately that wasn't very often in our case.
There were gun shops there that were looted and people WERE getting shot at and hit in some places. That is why we were in full gear- it was a disaster area for crying out loud- you don't just walk around an environment like that in dockers and sandals spreading good cheer.
Yes, we were getting paid by clients, but No, our allegiance wasn't just to the dollar. People needed help, it was very dangerous, NOPD was corrupt and stealing things themselves, in the beginning the relief personnel were so strung out they couldn't do everything, so who else were they going to count on? That is why I was sent in.
So I guess if you still think that I'm just another jackboot based on the list of work I did there, so be it. I can't speak for any of the other groups that were there, but I can safely say it is unfair to judge all of us based on the fuck ups of others. To answer your spotting question- we wouldn't be hard to figure out- we'll be the ones shooting at the guys who kicked in your door.
This profession is a small world. We're just like anyone else; we talk about things and discuss just like here when we see each other. Some of us are outraged, others just try to do their job so they can live. But word travels fast if one of us has a bad work ethic, and this is a VERY competitive and cutthroat profession. If you get a black mark in your folder, you're done.
BW has been the one exception because of its influence at the top. Those who get the black marks usually flock there for work because BW has no scruples, and they're the only ones who will hire them. They also attract a lot of the good guys because they get a ton of contracts.
Overall though, most of us have a moral outlook on things and we won't be party to unethical behavior. I've personally dumped a contract because I found things a bit shady and against my principles. For a great deal of us, it's more than just money.
I don't know... They (i.e. the US government and its corporate allies) may not have all the time in the world. Even the neocons and CEOs have pressure from above and outside. Although they have in their control great deal of military force, they do not possess the only great military force in the world. And although they've had a great stream of revenue flowing through their grasp for years from which to embezzle, that revenue stream may collapse; they may think they're creating a controlled depression, but I think the collapse is far beyond the government's ability to control it at this point. There are so many factors.
In any event, I think these guys have shown us clearly that THEY ARE CAPABLE OF ANYTHING AT ANY MOMENT, and WE SHOULD BE PREPARED (NOW!), both mentally, and physically if one chooses to do so. There is so much insane, violent motion in the world right now, which of course has just been magnified (perhaps exponentially) in the last few weeks as they've prodded the great nuclear Bear of Russia like fools, and much of that insanity is being caused by our dear government.
They must know they can’t get away with it forever, and they will have to lock down on the population. That’s why we must fight now. I don’t think we can assume they will be sly enough to do this slowly; they’re not exactly known for subtlety, are they?
Arm yourself and be ready to act when the time comes..
You will know when it's time!
Thanks!

the Executive Order that allows Michigan National Guard to be redoplyed to Florida and Georgia National Guard to be redoployed to Minnesota or whatever combination so that they don't have to kill their aunts, uncles, cousins etc.
They will be less sensative if it's not thier home state.
THIS IS NOW LAW!
IF YOU'RE NOT PUKING YOU SHOULD ATLEAST BE GAGGING!
!!!Truth is treason in the EMPIRE OF LIES!!!
I'm with you
The national guard of that state should be in charge of defending the state, and in case of emergency, they should have the power to call other states to help.
The federal government is too big to efficiently mobilize to help a state.
Of course, this would be much easier ifthe national guard was still in the nation...
I can agree with you here.
Now if we could only figure out black water.
Black Water & the rest of those thugs
Stand no chance against a force of Warriors & Guerrillas. And rest assurred
This force is much more at the ready & prepared. The dipshits that are behind the possible coming chaos are in for one big surpirise. For what the Patriots will fight for will be much more valuable than US worthless dollars

After the Katrina fiasco
After the Katrina fiasco regarding gun confiscations many States passed laws that completely prohibited confiscation of legally owned firearms all all, regardless of whether it was national emergency, weather related, etc. Here's an article about that: http://www.stateline.org/...
The US Government also followed with their own version of similar legislation. Refer to Section 706 of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2007 (HR 5441). Here's a link: http://www.govtrack.us/co...
And here is the pertinent text from section 706:
You don't need a law
it was already illegal here in Louisiana per both State and Federal constitutions.
On the contrary...
This makes me want to lock & load!
Know your enemy my fellow citizens. Blackwater USA is ready to move against us. They will shoot us and have no qualms about it.
I consider it an act of war against sovereign citizens when the Federal government enters a free state under color of authority with an army or private mercenaries. They are preparing to close this country down.
TO HELL WITH THEM!

Just for the Record
LOL
thanks, you make good points.
Many people can't/won't take the time or aren't physically able to personally train for self defense and have the right to contract with private defense organizations. Those organizations should be trained as you outline to preserve their good reputations and public support.
I don't think anyone should be on US streets in tactical gear...
...unless the US is invaded by ground forces.

In some ways I agree

MW, you made my day...
I am so glad that some guys in your line of work think like you do, and support the Good Doctor!!!!
Stay healthy, stay alive, we need you.
Blessings.

Interesting perspective
I've not heard from anyone employed in actual private contract work in your field before. Thanks for posting your view(s)....An interesting read.
I'd be curious as to just who your "client" was?
Client
Good to hear. I hope you're
Good to hear. I hope you're spreading the freedom message with as many of your colleagues as possible.
---------------------------------------
The pursuit of liberty is addictive... Let's make it contagious.
I try.
80,000,000 gun owners in america.
Black water or not I will defend myself. I however will not be starting the fight.. I will deal with it when it reaches me however.
The only problem with those 80,000,000 gun owners...
...is that the gov't never takes us on all at once. It picks us off one by one, with overwhelming force. And it's got all the time in the world...
http://groups.yahoo.com/g...
Both they, and we, may not have all the time in the world.
