And you think this is not a police state? DNC
Look at the treatment this ABC News reporter gets for simply telling a cop to "hold on."
Oh wait, I wonder if this has anything to do with it?
outputEslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention...

There was just a story on this on Fox News.
Apparently, the news crew had set up in front of a hotel, and that hotel called the police because they didn't want them disturbing the guests. The hotel is also claiming that the sidewalk in front of the building, at least part of it closer to the building, is private property.
Sorry to disappoint anyone who thought it was something more sinister.
Though it could be that the hotel owner was in on the conspiracy. LOL.

Neocon Alert
I've read too much of this neocon's intellectual slumber, I know this may seem contradictory to my action here, but ignore him, what we really need to do is just that, do.
We need to organize, we need to plan, we need to decide what are we going to do about it, not give into this guy's full time job of disrupting us and making us run around in symantic circles.
We are the awake, we need to educate people that are ready to be woken, what ever this guy's cause is, his effect is disruptive and preventing us from participating in anything constructive.

It wasn't a paranoid episode after all.

fox news is damage control
of course, fox news is damage control.i never expected dailypaul people to cite it as a credible source for explanations.
it doesnt matter whether there was a request for the police, what is significant here is the treatment. forcing compliance while the reporter was on the phone, and bullying him to get out and into traffic? justified? count on fox to find a spin on it and let you americans fight each other again/or police each other again--as long as the result is damage control.
sidewalks in front are public property.
then of course, the hotel personnel are those "scared" of "trouble" and are encouraged to "report" such dissident[reporting news?] activity.if the owner is scared[again, of reporting news?],then your government propaganda is really working.
remember hitler had a way of packaging his police state that ordinary german citizens "reported" the subhuman jews, homosexuals, cripples, etc gladly.
Not sure that will hold up.
What the hotel would be attempting to claim based on what you've explained is called Curtilage. The legal definition of curtilage is 'the enclosed land directly adjacent to a private building.' For you and me, it would be like the back yard which is fenced in. Under this definition, owners can assume reasonable privacy if it is enclosed with intent of privacy. However I don't think this would apply to this situation given the circumstances.
I could be wrong however, and I would need to look more into this.
If the hotel does indeed own the facade and surrounding area, then you are correct.
As far as the issue itself, luckily no one was hurt, but I still believe the officer's conduct was unprofessional.
Absolutely the Hotel owner was in on it.
The Hotel owner had the most powerful people in the world staying at his establishment, He/She would do anything in their power to keep their guests happy. Common Sense.
Wake up.
take my word for it
it took us 20years to wake up from martial law.psychologically,we embraced it at first because our defense minister was "ambushed",we were led to believe everything was getting out of hand. of course, the sophistication of the "soap opera" state apparatus in america is much higher.[im from the philippines, whose dictator was backed by washington-i remember reagan coming here and said in his speech to marcos our dictator "we love your adherence to democratic principles..." 1980s]
but this kind of action by the police, and the upcoming "civilian national police" of obama are the first outright signs.
i hope american citizens will not have to go through what we had gone through. but in the end, after the silencing of dissent, the massacres and the spiralling into 3rd world status by the imf/wb, ordinary citizens openly fought armed soldiers. rosaries, icons of the catholic faith[incidental to the situation only] like statues of the virgin mary, were held onto, flowers were offered, as with food to the soldiers sent to destroy the few military officers who have had enough of the killing. ordinary people against tanks, marine landing craft, sikorsky attack helicopters in the 80s.
you guys are just starting. hear the warnings of those people who were subdued by these machiavellian group of people[the global elite, whoever they are, the police are just pawns] for now, is americas turn. either you all succeed, or be prepared to undergo what washington has been exporting around the world since the 60s
for a preview of what road is open after martial law, pls research the philippine people power 1. feb1986. see how everyone finally got the courage to stand against the military state. how it all ended with little bloodshed.
may you all not have to take it
Thanks jc.

Remember MLK
Since when does a hotel own a public sidewalk? In the words of MLK,
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice EVERYWHERE!"
Our silence is our enemy ... not just on this issue, but all of them that we hold dear.
This Made the ABC Evening News
Is's not just us and Utube. ABC featured footage of this episode on their Evening News today (Thursday 28).
It isn't that often that the MSM shows things like this to the mass audience. They must really have had enough.
I wonder if Americans in general will respond or even realize what they have seen.
Its about time,
maybe they will see the harm they did by promoting the Neocon agenda.
Since when does an out of control cop make a police state?
This as been going on for as long as police existed. What the cops did here is not justified from what I can tell, but that doesn't make a "police state.
I've been arrested before unjustifiably, and successfully challenged it in court. I just recognize it for what it is, a cop loosing his cool.

an "out of control" cop...
becomes a police state when he calls for "out of control" backup and they respond to take you to an "out of control" lockup jail where they file "out of control" charges against you to which you have to appear before an "out of control" judge in an "out of control" courtroom and pay heavy "out of control" fines and have a permanent "out of control" record against you for standing on a freaking public sidewalk reporting on "out of control" politicians....move along, you fool...if you are not with us you are against us and the "us" are patriotic americans...are you telling me you don't "see" this?
O Captain, My Captain, rise up and hear the bells!
What makes us a police state
What makes us a police state is:
1. The Patriot Act
2. The Bush/Pelosi FISA laws
3. Unwarranted surveillance of the Internet
4. The gestapo presence at our airports
5. The Military Commissions Act
6. Official sanction of waterboarding
7. State-run gulag at Guantanamo Bay
8. Construction of FEMA camps
9. State use of Blackwater paramilitary forces
Everything is in place for Hitler/Stalin-style fascism, pogroms and ethnic cleansing. The Bill of Rights is nullified and the Supreme Court is doing absolutely nothing to stop the setup of a dictatorship. Both political parties are complicit.
All we are doing is waiting for the right lunatic to seize power--the Constitution has been turned on its head, and the laws and police state agencies are all set up and fully operational.
SUPPORT OUR FOUNDERS' AMERICA
Support the Constitution of the United States
I agree with Ron Paul
where he says "Mr. Speaker, what, then, is the answer to the question: "Is America a Police State?" My answer is: "Maybe not yet, but it is fast approaching." The seeds have been sown and many of our basic protections against tyranny have been and are constantly being undermined. The post-9/11 atmosphere here in Congress has provided ample excuse to concentrate on safety at the expense of liberty, failing to recognize that we cannot have one without the other."
We don't have a "police state," but are moving in that direction. There's no reason to exaggerate. Stick with reality.

It isn't exaggeration. We
It isn't exaggeration. We already have a police state in operation--it's just a soft one that is maintaining good public relations at this time.
There would have to be substantial repeals of post-9-11 laws and dissolution of federal agencies before I would say that we aren't a police state.

Nicely said!!!
If the Patriot Act and freedom destroying Executive Orders were properly reported by the Media, it would be a well known fact that we no longer have a Republic (or "Democracy"). However media silence and good PR have kept our Republic intact (the illusion anyway)
Even many of those who know what is going on, don't really know what is going on. They must go back and read our founders documents and essays to see what we are really missing. Some will be next in line for the oven saying, "we almost have a dictator running a police state".

Not true.
There's nothing systematic about. They're in a situation where some people are trying to riot. They're being yelled at. The cops are confused. Some of them weren't trained well. Some of them their stupid. Some of them enjoy pushing people around. That doesn't make a "police state."

What went on before this clip?
I wish they would show the entire clip so that we could see this in the true context. They start the clip right when the police officer seems to be at his wits end. I'd like to judge this knowing all the facts.
Analyze the situation
See all and everything. Half of a story is only half of the truth. If the truth will set you free why hide the first half of it? This guy could have done a number of things before the camera was rolling. Flashing his penis at the cop. Showing the cop his butt-ox. Spitting on the cop. Telling the cop to fu99 off! Pissing on the sidewalk. Yelling at women passing by about how his balls smell.
I could go on and on. Thats what happens when we only see half of a story. I will not waste my anger on a half truth. Till all for now nothing.
yes, you could go on...
...you blow hard, you are such an idiot...i would love to be there to see you rationalize away why "they" are taking your possessions...my God, you are a fool
O Captain, My Captain, rise up and hear the bells!
there is also an article
That gives more details.
from that article
The sheriff's officer is seen telling Eslocker the sidewalk is owned by the hotel. Later, he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street.
It was two hours later when Denver police arrived to place Eslocker under arrest, apparently based on a complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel, a central location for Democratic officials.
During the arrest, one of the officers can be heard saying to Eslocker, "You're lucky I didn't knock the f..k out of you."
--So there you have it, apparently Hotels own their own sidewalk, and didn't like the reporter being there to watch the comings and goings of the important people. Plus, I would be interested in knowing who asked the Sheriff to move the reporter away from the front of the hotel. Who do the police take orders from ? ? ? That's the real question. So much the better that the officer is a bit of a thug and likes doing this kind of thing.
Um
Still half the story.
that should actually work quite well for you...
since you only have half a brain!
O Captain, My Captain, rise up and hear the bells!
Response to the sons of anarchy
Big man on campus. You do what makes you feel good. Question all authority and wallow in your anarchy. Go against the grain and be a rebel. Fight the man.
Now in my travels I have found that honesty is the best policy and by working with the angry police man to a common agreement seems to work. Blowing them off as if to say "F.U." well thats just not polite.
Go ahead. Be an asshole to the Dick cop and trust me that dick cop will fuck your asshole attitude right out. You wont be able to shit out of your asshole for a week. Don't be a pussy though. Dicks fuck pussies too. Find the middle ground and the Dick cop won't be able to find a place to fuck you. It has worked for me.
I don't understand the need for vulgarity

LOL
It's off of a movie. It wouldn't sound right without it.
Is there a pattern in the Denver P.D. ?
http://www.9news.com/vide...
This story makes you wonder. Of course the guy in this piece didn't come out as well as the ABC producer.
Check it out.
OH MAN,
This was MISSED golden opportunity. Do any of you watch hockey, when another player gets interfered illegally or not, but the player falls or pretends to be injured in order to draw a penalty.
With cameras rolling, he should have locked his feet together, fell, claim injury, damaged some of his equipment, if possible in the street, where his LIFE could have been in danger.
Then see if the bully turns into helpful police mode.
I love police when they are helping others in dire straights. I hate police when they are tax collectors and violators of civil rights and only FOLLOWING ORDERS.
Freedom may be worth searching for.
Remember, Dont battle the govt with guns(ALONE), Beat them in court, in state legislature, or hire Ron Paul for president.
He was very lucky
he didn't get hit by a car or bus. It did not look like that was remotely a concern with the cop pushing him out in the street. Let's see if ABC does anything about the situation. At least people are finding out that no one is immune to this type of treatment.
This video just gave me a great idea... a little sick but
A private bus company... patriot drivers... who cruise these events...like sharks...cop pushes reporter into the street....wham!
That would be front page news for a year.
Of course we camouflage padding on the front of the bus so it's not fatal...
"Committed To The Eradication Of Poverty Among Patriots"
"Those Who Strive For Excellence Refuse To Fear Mediocrity; They Eradicate It."
I'll drive.
So long as the bus can be classified as a non-lethal weapon.
The irony of a MSM producer being harassed and illegally detained by the very same establishment of power they helped to loft to such heights of power isn't lost on me here. It's funny in a very macabre sort of way.
Hey, the cop pushed the guy
I tried to avoid them your honor.
The tape tells the whole story.
I never expected a public servant to do anything except "serve and protect". You feelin' me judge?
"Committed To The Eradication Of Poverty Among Patriots"
"Those Who Strive For Excellence Refuse To Fear Mediocrity; They Eradicate It."
Don't ignore the police like this reporter did
One of the worst things that you can do is to ignore the police if they are addressing you. This ABC reporter was talking on his cell phone and casually pushing off the cop.
If this happens to you, I would suggest good manners - hang up the dam cell phone and talk to the cop. They are people carrying out their orders not policy makers.
Pragmatism would suggest hanging up the phone-
...just to satisfy the cops ego. From what I saw, the producer was engaged with the cop and complying within reason of the law. Unfortunately the cop was not reasonable and appeared to have less regard or knowledge of the law than the producer.
I beg to differ with your point about being policy makers. When your job is to enforce the law and uphold the constitution, your fidelity to those responsibilities supersedes "policy". When police consistently defer to policy over the core essence of their responsibilities, they are policy makers in the worst sense. This cops ultimate policy is to defend the constitution, not the violation thereof.
If he doesn't have the fortitude to obey the laws he is defending, maybe he along with many others should seek new employment opportunities.
Now that I think about it, our country would be well served if Congress and the President would follow the same logic. ;-)
You sir, are a tool.
Why should he have to hang up the phone? Is that illegal, to use a cell phone on a sidewalk?
JeffH, Why the need to
JeffH, Why the need to unnecessarily call people names? Is it justified in this case?
I did feel the need to.
Otherwise I wouldn't have done it.
The OP to which I was responding smacks of the attitude that the police state loves...Obey the 'authorites' at all times, or else
Why should that producer have had to hang up the phone? What law did that producer violate? What charge did the officer believe he had against that producer to effect an arrest?
I'm just sick and tired of people rolling over and going belly up in the face of 'authority'. It's an attitude that has no place in a just society. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with questioning authority in any circumstance, and most certainly authority is to be challenged when it is improperly used. A polite, 'gee, I don't agree' doesn't quite emphasize my feelings on this subject adequately. So I poke a bit.
What you call "poking", tends to be
a napalm strike in a great many of your posts. Calling you tactics "poking" is a stretch. If the OP was opposed to challenging the supremacy of the state, I would be surprised to find him posting here.
The ease at which you resort to name calling and derogatory remarks does precious little to forward the conversation or encourage participation- especially from folks who are maybe not as certain of your convictions as you are. IMO, this approach introduces unnecessary antagonism and division into discussions that would otherwise be more enlightening and unifying. Just a thought.
If you're annoyed, take it out on those who really deserve your angst. How about the Denver PD?
I'm annoyed
By people who say they want freedom but are so afraid of the 'authorities' that they can't envision standing up for themselves and their own God given rights let alone the rights of others.
I'd defend your rights, with force if necessary. Would you do the same for me?
