Low Tax New Hampshire has Nation's Lowest Poverty Rate
New Hampshire has one of the lowest tax rates in the country with no state income or sales tax. And guess what? Yesterday the Census Bureau reported that New Hampshire also has the lowest poverty rate in the US.
Does anyone see a connection?
I learned this fact yesterday at a meeting to help eliminate the Massachusetts State Income Tax. This will be the first question on the ballot on the November election. The last time it was up - much to everyone's surprise - the initiative got 45% of the vote! This time, with the economy the way it is, and increasing awareness of government waste, it has an excellent chance of winning!
If we here in Taxachusetts can get rid of our income tax, we will serve as inspiration to states across the nation and help turn the tide against government waste. Please don't feed the government!
If you live here in Massachusetts, please consider joining up to help however you can. We are a small group facing an opponent with a $5 million budget! We need all the help we can get!
If you don't live in the state, you can help out with a donation!
Thank you! I will keep you updated on the progress.

Capital Gains Tax
a slight correction...some capital gains in Massachusetts are taxed at 12%...some at just 5.3% (what a bargain!) It depends on which form you use. I don't know if you have a choice, probably not cuz everyone would use the 5.3% form, right? Details are here: http://www.mass.gov/?page...

oops...I didn't mean to post this - didn't hit stop in time I guess - the real comment is above

hopefulfiled is right
this reason why poverty is so low is that housing is so high , you have to have a lot of money to live there. this is where all the doctors and well to do's live to avoid taxes. i used to live in massachusetts and i wanted to move to NH thinking it would be cheeper to live there, boy was i wrong. the cheapest living in this country is in iowa. i bought a 5 bedroom house out here for 27,000 with about 2 acres of land and what really surprised me when i moved out here is that i actually make more money per hour here than i did in the most expensive state to live in which is massachussets. and i got a job in less than a week after i moved here. NH is very pretty and all but it aint worth the price if your just an ordinary factory worker like myself.
A little off topic
I have several RP stickers on my truck and I also have a end the income tax bumper sticker on this truck. Well 2 days ago I got pulled over by the police who was driving a state vehicle who represented himself as a federal inspector. I believe I got pulled over because of the end the income tax bumper sticker. Because he made very angry remarks and gestures toward this bumper sticker. He also gave me $300 in fines. I will fight them of course
Consider the Demographics Report:
2005 (total population)
White 96.97%
Black 1.29%
AIAN* 0.63%
Asian 2.04%
NHPI* 0.07%
* AIAN is American Indian or Alaskan Native; NHPI is Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
As of 2004, the population includes 64,000 residents born outside the United States (4.9%).
In 2006, New Hampshire had the lowest birth rate in the nation.
Compare to SC:
2005 (total population)
White 69.12%
Black 29.68%
ASIN* 0.69%
Asian 1.31%
NHPI* 0.10%
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, South Carolina has an estimated population increase of 74,316, or 1.7%, from the prior year and an increase of 309,237, or 7.7%, since the year 2000.
Immigration from outside the United States resulted in a net increase of 36,401 people, and migration within the country produced a net increase of 115,084 people.
According to the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health, Consortium for Latino Immigration Studies, South Carolina's foreign-born population grew faster than any other state between 2000-2005. The Consortium reports that the number of Hispanics in South Carolina is greatly undercounted by census enumerators and may be more than 400,000.
No surprise at all
It you subsidize poverty you get more of it.
I live in the People's Republic of New York. We subsidize poverty like crazy here, and boy do we get a lot of it.
Yes no surprise, but the liberals
will sure not like to hear this...
Empirical evidence always wins
It's good to see a solid correlation between freedom and prosperity. I wish the media would throw this kind of evidence into their reports whenever they talk about poverty.
I also suspect that the definition of poverty is a little strange. Probably many of those 7% in poverty have a car, multiple TVs, a full fridge, etc... In other words, luxury compared to socialist places.
I wish you luck
But you living in the Communist states of the NE, I doubt it would work. Next you guys should get easy carry permits....

That source is outdated
Wikipedia has more recent data. They do have a capital gains tax. 5% it seems. They are still ranked like 48th in Revenue as % of income.
Thanks
I changed it accordingly. Still no income or sales tax. (We have both here, and 12% capital gains tax!!!)

My parents live in NH,
and they have an Interest and Dividend Tax, which is 8% over a certain amount. Also, one must figure in their outrageous property/real estate tax. For instance, I know of one person who's home is worth 150,000 and she pays 5000 a year in property tax. Also, I suspect that the reason poverty is listed as so low is because they are very good at checking out fraud in the welfare system, and also because the price of housing is so high that poor people can't live there. We left the state because of the high price of living there.
i live in texas and that is
i live in texas and that is what i pay in taxes for the same value house and we have a pretty high sales tax 8.25% on top of that (they want to raise that too)
Trade offs
Getting rid of a state income tax and sales tax is great but the hungry monster needs to be fed. Therefore, it is the property owners that get it. Anywhere you have low income or sales tax in a state, you generally have ridiculously high property tax. That stinks. Who can retire in a place like that? And is it fair that the property owners subsidize everyone else?

New Hampshire is also a beautiful state...but
When you fly low over NH and Vermont the contrast is amazing.
But New Hampshire blew it big time when they passed over Ron Paul.
I'm afraid that little state is going to get run over by the momentum of the Federalies in the next few years.
Homeland Stupidty will just pressure and blend New Hampshire in with the rest of the country.

New Hampster just looks greener and cleaner.
Better roads. I'm most familiar with the green and white mountain areas. Hiking and shiing.
I lived in Connecticut for 42 years.
