The only reason we should all vote for Barr.
I think everyone will agree that America is on her last leg. We need a huge "Shake-up"!!
Unfortunately Ron Paul is no longer Running for President, so why bother voting for him?
I understand the integrity thing, I understand the "it makes me feel good" thing, but realy, what is that vote going to do for freedom? what is it going to do for America?, what is it going to do for John McWar and Barack Obomba? It is going to help put one of them in office!!!
It looks to me, like Bob Barr has the best chance of making an upset!! DONT GET ME WRONG, I dont agree with him on everything, I like Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin, but lets be realistic, no one has heard of Chuck Baldwin, the MSM will not interview him, he has no realistic chance of getting more than 5% of the vote.
Bob Barr, on the other hand, seems to be making his rounds on the MSM (I HATE THE MSM, BUT THIS IS WHERE VOTES WILL COME FROM AND YOU KNOW IT)and getting his name and message out there!!
Bob Barr is not the perfect candidate, but then again, no one is, but lets be United this year and send a 3rd party candidate to office!!
I'm sure a Barr administration would have a place for Ron Paul, and Chuck Baldwin...
WE CAN DO THIS IF WE UNITE, IN FACT, THAT"S THE ONLY WAY!

that's what I'm thinking also
you can't sacrifice all practicality and go 100% idealistically. that's a waste of time.
I will wait until after the Rally for the Republic,
and then decide.
What if Ron Paul runs with Jesse?
What if Ron Paul endorses Chuck Baldwin?
What if Ron Paul endorses Bob Barr?
Basically, I will do whatever Ron Paul says,
I just hope some direction comes from Ron Paul by the
end of the Rally.
Peace.
I completely agree with you..
I will do the same.. Just waiting on Dr. Paul's word.
If no endorsement come then I will write in Ron Paul. My vote is my first shot in this Revolution.
The American Revolution 2.0 will not be televised... It will be downloaded!!!
Unless Jesus or Buddha enter this election
We will never have a perfect candidate for president.
JFK was not perfect he slept around with women and send CIA to Cuba and the Bay of Pigs fiasco....
Bob Barr is the best candidate left with a chance to awake masses to the cause of liberty.
Just get him into the debates.Perot 2.

Learn some math we do not
Learn some math we do not have the numbers to elect a 3rd party period even if we could get every Ron Paul supporter to vote 3rd party. Barr has not earned my vote. No more compromise votes for me period. The LP has never gotten more then 1 or 2% and there is no reason to think they will this year.
Taking back the GOP one central committee at a time is the only logical thing to do and has actual real world results so far we just need more people to step up instead of hoping for some miracle that will never come. We are the people we have been waiting for however we have lots of hard work to do and too few stepping up to do it.
Ron Paul is the only one who has earned my vote so I am voting for the only honest man and not compromising since the outcome looks to be fixed anyways.

The LP is in position to make history for themselves.
They have never had a candidate get the kind of exposure Mr. Barr has been receiving in the MSM - just this week the Colbert Report, the CNN morning show, and Glenn Beck for a full hour. Zogby, which has been closer to the money in their polling, has him recieving 6% nationally at this point and in double digits in a few states. I applaud you for voting your conscience hawkiye, but do not underestimate our ability to shake up things in the status quo - which as Ron Paul said - doesnt necessarily mean we have to win this time around, just spread the liberty message as far and as deep as we can.
That is the key right
The libertarians picked him not because he was the best they could feild, it was for their own exposure.
I will never support him, in fact I am an anti barr.
Unless a miracle happens, Barr is the only hope
And guess what, he probably won't win. So don't look at it like you are voting for a president, look at it like you want to send a message.
If we split our votes, the idea of smaller government is once again shown to be a fringe idea, and any future political movement is damaged. There needs to be a statement made in favor of small government, and Barr is the best shot to do that right now.
The road to freedom is long and hard, we have to focus on each small step in that direction, and sometimes we have to step in some muck.
I understand why people do not want to support Barr, I respect that. I am not sure myself whether I will work for Barr or Donate - I'm still considering, but when it comes to voting, I will vote for Barr.
More sugar fairies of the bubble gum forest BS
Send a message. What we folded for what the machine spit out at us? Oh Ron Paul is a dead candidate might as well back what they will give us. A Barr right up our corn hole's for all of the time spent with Ron Paul. If Ron Paul is a dead candidate then I am a dead voter.
Something needs to happen
Something needs to happen and FAST because the liberty vote is going to be split three ways (Barr, Baldwin and write ins for Dr.Paul). We won't have much of an impact if we are all voting for different candidates. I hope something happens in MN to unite us behind one person.
What a waste of money and resources
"Ideas have consequences." Ron Paul
I like Ron's record a whole lot better than Bob's
but I will likely vote for him.
Just say NO! to Barr
You go ahead and vote for a career politician who 'made a mistake' and voted YES to strip us all of the protections of our rights if you want to. I'll vote for someone who will respect and abide by their oath to defend the constitution.
You are looking for a person
or politician that never makes any mistakes. Good luck finding one. Somehow I think you will never find one.
Are you aware that there are so many bills being voted on and most congressmen do NOT read through it all and in the case of the Patriot Act some had no time in a very short term to read a 315 plus page document. Dr. Paul could also not read through the Patriot Act as well before he voted on it, but his wisdom, experience and instincts told him to be distrustful.
You also have to understand many bills, including the Patriot Act has aspects one is in agreement with and some not. The world is not so simplistic black and white always.
Please stop referring to the
Please stop referring to the Patriot Act as a "mistake". It was a violation of the Oath of Office, and represents an act of betrayal from every member of Congress who signed onto it.
Ron Paul has integrity; hence he voted against it.

He's damaged goods in this movement because of the Patriot Act. No amount of spin can undo that vote.
That's what's ironic--that Barr adherents should be trolling here trying to sell their candidate among constitutionalists who bear a grudge against him. A much more effective use of their time would be to troll McCain boards, where constitutionalists do not hang out.

Question
has Barr not worked the past 4,5 years against the Patriot Act?? Remember the one he voted on was Patriot Act 1, not the far more elaborate Patriot Act 2. Also, the Patriot Act does contain things like port security Dr. Paul, Baldwin and Barr would ALL be for.
of course there is infringement in his voting record, but as Dr. Paul has said this does NOT mean he cannot represent the views seriously and honestly.
Dr. Paul has rooted for Barr and Baldwin more than once now. They both attended an event in DC about Iran policy.
Tell me, some of Barr's advisers are also Dr. Paul's advisers and friends, like Bruce Fein - who will also be speaking at the rally for the republic, Doug Bandow etc. These are all FACTS! or are you going to try to say this is trolling?
Barr is very much a constitutionalist, like Dr. Paul.
Barr isn't even a
Barr isn't even a Libertarian, as far as I can tell. He's certainly not a constitutionalist.

It's called principle
And it's a very simple concept. When you're voted into office to represent your constituency you swear an oath to defend & uphold the Constitution of the USA. When an elected official not only fails to defend the Constitution, but votes FOR a bill which seriously compromises the protections of rights which it affords, I'd say that makes them no longer worthy of the public trust.
Bob Barr may very well have seen the light and decided that what he did in support of the (un)patriot act was wrong. He may very well be sincere in his desire to mitigate the damage HE DID. Now you can make all the foolish 'it would have passed anyway' arguments you want to, but the simple fact of the matter is that without the YES votes it would not have passed. Try this mental exercise on for size...what if Barr's YES vote was THE yes vote the bill needed to pass? Would you still feel right about making the argument 'he only did it because?' Probably not.
So, that said. I welcome his efforts to forward the cause of getting politicians elected that will obey their oath and truly represent we the people. But he'll not get my vote. He's proven his judgement can not be trusted, and I will not be one who'd vote to place him in a position of far greater importance lest he have a subsequent and worse 'lapse' in his judgement.
STOP COMPROMISING!!! You either want our government to be the way it should, or you're willing to settle for something less. I know what I choose.
So
you would also not trust Walter Jones then? It should be noted that Barr did negotiate and put in the sunset clauses, otherwise it would have been permanent!
Certain people interpret the constitution differently. Take the DC gun issue. The lawyers of the supreme court should then also be in 100% agreement on issues like habeus corpus, 2nd. Amendment etc. but they are NOT.

Barr
is a member of the NRA, with an A plus rating and has always been strong on the 2. Amendment, as also noted on LRC, so really, one does not know how you are call him a traitor on that. It is so crazy accusation, actually hilarious. He worked with LP member Dick Heller on the DC Heller case.
Learn to do some research and read.
Read this for starters... http://www.gunowners.org/...
Rep. Barr shows support for Lautenberg ban
In early March, Rep. Bob Barr endorsed the concept of the Lautenberg gun ban, calling it "important and worthwhile legislation." Barr's comments appeared as an editorial in the March 6, 1997 issue of USA Today, where he called for only a limited repeal of the Lautenberg ban. While he opposed the retroactive part of the ban, Rep. Barr endorsed the underlying principle behind the Lautenberg gun ban, stating that,
This [Lautenberg gun ban] is important and worthwhile legislation, and we cannot allow its effectiveness to be reduced.
Unfortunately, this was not the first time that Rep. Barr has expressed his support for the underlying principle behind the Lautenberg gun ban. On September 28, 1996, Rep. Barr issued a memo on his Congressional letterhead stating that:
The Lautenberg amendment with the Barr language is strong protection for women and children. [Emphasis in the original.]
And then on October 12, 1996, Rep. Barr sent a letter to the editor of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, again saying that he had fought hard to "improve" the Lautenberg language. He noted that because of his amendment, the Lautenberg gun ban could now pass constitutional muster and not be struck down by the courts. Barr stated:
Under the Lautenberg language -- which was cleared up through my amendatory language that was adopted -- there was no consistent definition of "crime of domestic violence," and therefore the entire provision would have been declared unconstitutional. My language corrected this deficiency by setting forth the common elements of the crime that would apply to everyone. [Emphasis added.]
Rep. Barr was also one of the Representatives who voted last September in favor of the Lautenberg gun ban as part of the omnibus spending bill (H.R. 3610).
The above statements would seem to indicate that Rep. Barr is content with only repealing the retroactive nature of the ban, and thus, leaving the gun ban in the federal code in perpetuity.
Gee, that's real 'friendly' to the 2nd Amendment, isn't it? Good luck pushing your candidate on people.
Thank you for posting that.

PERIOD.
A long history of the American public compromising on the issues that should matter the most has gotten us where we are. When will the American public smarten up and say NO MORE!!! ?
I thought you were going to say
We had our heads up our asses, that was the only way I could see someone voting for bob barr
Thanks. I needed that!
With the "logic" used , this thread almost has me convinced to vote for Obama. Nahhhhhhhhh, I think I will go ahead and vote for someone who is actually qualified. That does not include Bob Barr, no matter what position he is taking this week. Even Dr. Paul cannot talk me out of voting for the most qualified person who ran this year. If the media can't do it or Dr. Paul can't do it, what makes anyone else think they have a chance?( Thanks Orabox , you are correct, someone does have to have a misguided viewpoint to vote for somebody besides Dr. Paul.)
One votes to
send a message. Barr does not have to win to send a message. Perot has also sent a message, although he came third. And the LP is in existence since 1971, not the Reform Party.

Click on the state by state chart for the details.
Baldwin is shut out of twelve states, 1 more is disputed, and 1 other looks like he won't get the signatures.
Barr is shut out of 2 states, 3 more are disputed in court, and 1 other looks like he won't get the signatures.
Worst case for each candidate:
Baldwin will be on 36 states' ballots
Barr will be on 44 states' ballots
Best case for each candidate:
Baldwin will be on 38 states' ballots
Barr will be on 48 states' ballots
Also, Baldwin will not be on the ballot in some big states, including California and New York.
I Will Be Voting for Bob Barr
After Ron Paul announced his exploratory committeed, the 18th contribution he received was mine. I went on to donate his campaign the legal maximum. I organized a Meetup Group to rally local supporters for him. I am so proud of Congressman Ron Paul and our movement. I joined the Campaign for Liberty.
As the Republican Party leadership has rejected Ron Paul, I renewed my efforts to make an impact for liberty.
I organized a Meetup Group for Bob Barr and have donated the legal maximum to his campaign. I will be voting for him because I want us to have a voice in the General Election for liberty. I want to make an impression on the American people that following the US Constitution is the best way to ensure peace, prosperity and freedom. I want to be heard and not ignored and the best way is for us to rally behind Bob Barr.
The first fallacy
is the saying the lessor of the 2,3 or whatever evils. They either are evil or they are not. We are so past hoping for someone to figure out what side they are on, what they believe in, what a Consitutional Republic actually means, or how to take a stand without fear. Forget about the next election as it is clear we are at the crossroads right now. The dividing line is here, so take your side and live with your choices. The higher truth is this not even really about a person or a vote but what you will accept as your idea of freedom and what you will do to make it happen.

I can't in good conscience vote Barr, so will probably end up voting Baldwin. I don't agree with him 100%, but doubt I'll ever find a candidate I do (unless it is myself - and yes, I am thinking about running for a city/county/state seat).
Then let Obama win....Did
Then let Obama win....Did anyone notice the title of the post "The ONLY reason"
Does anyone here really think barr is as bad as mccain or obama????
Yes, I really and truly think Barr is as bad as McCain or
Obama...He can spout all the "niceties"...all the "correct things" he wants....this does not mean I believe him. Obama speaks well....but is he telling the truth? I think not. If Barr has truly seen the light, and at this point I don't believe he has, then he has to prove that to me...I would want to see consistency over SEVERAL years...before I'd support him...
If we disregard the party
If we disregard the party lines, I see no difference worth noting. Certainly his running mate, Wayne Root, who reportedly said we should bomb Iran into the Stone Age, is no different from someone who'd be running with McCain.

When you call someone who is no longer a neo-con a neo-con, remember that you are denigrating a great many of us here who were "awakened" in just the past year. I was a neo-con myself - since I was old enough to vote. It was a combination of things that led to my accepting Ron Pauls message of truth and understanding our freedom being at stake. Bob Barr has travelled a similar path to many of us here, in fact he did it before me. If you want to spread the message of freedom, you have to allow those of us who havent been here as long as you - stand by you as equals, or the movement will not grow.
Maybe. . .
I can see where you're coming from. I guess he could have had an awakening, but he was in pretty darn deep. I just have a bad feeling about him.

Might be busy testifying at the international war crimes trial. The international community will want to know, how could a former CIA agent been misled on evidence of WMD's in Iraq. They will ask him if he feels like he was complicit in the murder of millions of innocent Iraqis, considering he had intelligence available due to his connections relating to prior CIA positions.
