Damn.... I'm Cynical When I Just Want to Have Someone to Cheer For....
I moved back to school last weekend.... School is in Chicago, IL... the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.... being an art school, unfortunately, the stereotypes are true.... it's liberal country.
Add that to liberal/Barack Obama capitol Chicago, and you can bet I'm feeling pretty depressed.
I can't wait to get out of here to attend the Rally.
Tonight, in my class, the teacher made several comments about how excited he is for Obama's speech, the election, and Obama's presidency..... every single student agreed. I was left alone in the corner.... The teacher even felt that we shouldn't even be in class, because we should all be home watching the speech.
I honestly feel sick. It's like they can't comprehend someone not liking Obama. If you do you're a freak (so I'm a freak amongst freaks apparently).
I wish Ron Paul was the Republican nominee.... I want someone to root for so badly... but instead, I'm left out in the street (where I literally walk past shops in Chicago that look like campaign stores for Obama.... his face is everywhere here, newspapers/tabloids, signs, T-Shirts, etc.).
I can barely even cheer for liberty and freedom when both major candidates, the next president, don't truly support either.
How is it possible that so many people can be fooled so easily. Sometimes when I listen to some of the things Obama says, they sound good, and almost like Ron Paul.... but I know he's probably lying or won't really be doing any of that. Is that what people are cheering for? The ideas he's claiming to support? It's like he's turned himself into this image that everyone wants, but people don't realize he doesn't actually represent or believe in that.

I feel with you
all we should do is spreading the truth
educate all we know
one thing about obama...yeah he lies but at least he will be somewhat bound what he says...
We live it everyday!
We're in the south suburbs and most people here feel the need to support Obama to show they are not prejudice(I believe). Chicago is great but it is so corrupt it's sickening. Politicians are naming their sons to be their successors. Unbelievable. The Sun-Times wrote that people are apathetic to it. Obama is also sooo corrupt - Tony Rezco ring a bell. We call Obama the superstar because that is how people treat him.
It doesn't matter what these poor followers think(students). Hold your head high and if your instructor talks about politics again, then you have every right to call him out on it. I always start with, "I can respect the fact you support Obama, but please explain to me on what point exactly you support him on." Then I come back with RP's views without mentioning his name until the end. It appears to work - people stop and think. Chicago is so democraticly? brainwashed that you can't mention the Republican name. This has empowered me in my Obama-nation and I either get people to think about it or write me off as a nut. I bet most of those students and probably your instructor can't really justify intelligently why they would vote for him. Our friend is backing Obama and when we spoke to him and asked why- he said he sounded sincere. When we talked further about RP and Obama it appeared he was starting to "wake up" from his starstruck slumber. I still have my RP for Pres sticker on my SUV. I won't remove it until I get a Campaign for Liberty one.
"For with God nothing shall be impossible"
I Feel Ya...
As a former art student myself, I know exactly what you are talking about. The majority of students in my art college were ultra-liberal and of the same mind in their political views, despite the fact that most considered themselves extremely individualistic and took pride in how rebellious, independent and counter-culture they were in their thinking. The reality was that most conformed to the ideas of the faculty and administration of the school. Being liberal was somehow equated to sticking it to 'da man'. Sigh.
If you really want to make them a true believer, I would emphasize the individualistic and rebellious spirit that the principles of the constitution were founded on. I guarantee that these guys could only recite the first amendment, anyway. And if that fails, tell them Dr. Paul believes in decriminalizing pot and hemp. That should sell them!
sweets- just change one word...
"I wish Ron Paul was the Republican nominee"
to
"I wish Ron Paul BE the Republican nominee."
Now that is change we can believe in-------LOL---
first thought, then reality...

Get ready for another challenge
When we get to Minneapolis and it is crawling with McCain supporters. I personally have not met one face to face yet so it will be interesting to see so many of them in one place. Think of what our delegates have had to go through.
Such was the popularity of Hitler
I can sympathize as an ex-Chicagoan. I think you'll feel a lot better if you look at our predicament from this angle:
You have one vote. Your vote WILL count. So write in "Ron Paul" on your ballot, and know that YOU---even if alone---have voted for the best man. It is lonely to be in such a tiny minority. But you (and I) are artists. Who CARES what the marjority prefers? You have your own eyes, mind and judgment. Thank God! And celebrate!
Consider that in the 1930s, Hitler enjoyed just this kind of adoration from the masses in Germany. In the end, those who supported him had only themselves to really blame. I can't believe Obama is putting on the same kinds of Albert-Speer-like spectacles without any shame!
My last political activity in Chicago was to campaign for Alan Keyes. I am proud of that, and proud that I STILL support Ron Paul. I no longer expect him to prevail. But as always, it is "IN GOD WE TRUST", and if so do we need not pine for our lost American dream. Have hope that we still HAVE a few such great men among the sycophants and pop-star-politicians who lead them, including your poor art teacher and Obama.
Our people will elect a pop-star this time. Only you vote your conscience. You might also consider one of the third party tickets. I reject that (prevailing) idea that voting third-party is "throwing away" a vote. For, in the end, it WILL be counted and recorded. And your conscience will be clear. To vote is your duty, not to pick a winner.

Welcome to college. Where
Welcome to college. Where you'll always hear liberal and Democratic pandering no matter what year it is. Obama just happens to be the popular subject right now.
Here's how I stomached it in college: I was very vocal in my opposition. I constantly challenged the professor (in a polite manner) in class. In my assignments and tests, I usually argued against the subject matter and used to research back up my arguments. It helped that I wasn't a slacker, spoke clearly and like an adult in class (i.e. unlike most of my classmates, I can form a thought without throwing the words "like" or "you know" after every other word), and had other people proofread my work for errors before turning it in. The last part is important because it helps the opposition take you more seriously.
And guess what? Despite being a pain in the ass in class, I consistently got A's. A competent professor will appreciate a well-presented original and critical argument even if they don't agree with your opinion. Many of my professors complained that their students don't challenge them or the subject matter enough; that we're all too timid to speak out minds. And if you get shafted in the grades department despite being a good student, you can make a damn good case to administration about blatant discrimination. Luckily in my case, it never came down to that.
Did I sway anyone's opinion? I honestly don't know. But it felt a million times better to voice my conscious than to stay silent and frustrated. And it certainly made the class more interesting and tolerable.
Hey Voice
give this to your teacher from me.

You'll gain skills to become
a strong communicator at the Art Institute (you already have excellent verbal communication skills.)
I also live in a very liberal area and find it most successful to focus on doubts thinking liberals already have about Obama's inconsistency, his support of our global military empire, FISA, etc. It's hard to be patient, but by focusing on their better instincts you can help them see beyond their conditioning.
Look for an active meetup group in your area for fun and personal support.
It would surprise
It would probably surprise you how many RP conservatives that are hidden it those liberal areas. Like another poster said, wear a RP button or shirt to pick up conversations. Other true conservatives will surface in the process.
Hope!!

aww, thanks, that was sweet,
aww, thanks, that was sweet, and it did make me smile ; )
Friend,
Forgive them (your classmates), for they know not what they do.
Seriously. What they need is an education, and you can, slowly but surely give it to them. You can start by first honestly engaging them. What do they think is so great about Obama? Depending on what they say, you have your opening.
"I like him because he's for universal health care," they might say.
"Oh yeah," you might say, "How is he going to pay for it..."
Hm.....That might get people to stop an think. Then you can talk about the Federal Reserve.
Relax, take it slow. You've got the whole semester. You don't have to convince them all at once, nor would you be able to.
Don't be afraid to wear your Ron Paul button or T-shirt. After all, you're an artist - you should be fully self expressed! I'm certain that you'll be able to find others to hear the message...
Hang in there and keep fighting the good fight!
What kind of art do you study?
Michael
Another thing I SURELY would
Another thing I SURELY would do. I would ask to talk to the teacher after class. I would tell her/him that she made you very uncomfortable bringing political dogma in which you do NOT believe, into the classroom. Tell her you think it was unprofessional, as well as choosing a candidate to push that is KNOWN for being corrupt, having corrupt friends, and on judicialwatch.org 10 most corrupt politician list. Well, dunno if you can bring up the last part, but I think that the teacher should know you did not take that class to hear socialist type propaganda, like universal this and that.
Besides, look at Veteran's hospitals and other countries with "government health care. Not ONLY is it an unconstitutional venture in our country, but we would probably have to wait months for appointments. Or doctors themselves would leave the profession in droves. Just think what it would do to THEM.
thanks, that's good
thanks, that's good advice....
I'm focusing on painting and drawing, but I hope to explore other areas too....
Forgive me
But I don't think that is good advice. You do'nt want to start off on a bad note with the teacher. Maybe the part about not bringing polotics into the classroom to promote a candidate but the rest is a bit hypocritical.
Perhaps. But I have been a
Perhaps. But I have been a teacher, and they really are not allowed to do that stuff. I NEVER was "afraid" to talk to teachers when I did not understand something, or they made me mad, and I went back to college and got an EH teaching degree (with honors) when I was 47 years old.. Maybe you considered my response too critical, but I did tell him he did not have to go that far. He should most certainly mention his dissatisfaction of bringing that candidate up in class, though, and not be afraid to do so.
O-bomb-a...... "probably lying"?
No. There ain't no "probably" about it. He IS lying. He's your typical CFR slime, professional politician (just a different color than most of them). That's why so many people fall for his BS. Oh sure, most of them will have voter's remorse later on. But a fat lot of good that does us NOW. It happens over and over and over and over again. It's like most people have no long-term memory. They keep falling for the same BS all the time. All I can tell you is hang tough. Either our time will come, or we'll die trying to make it come......
