Weekend Watching - Andrew Bacevich

Bill Moyers interviews Andrew Bacevich. Bacevich is a professor of international relations at Boston University, former director of its Center for International Relations, and author of several books. He has been "a persistent, vocal critic of the US occupation of Iraq, calling the conflict a catastrophic failure." In March 2007, he described George W. Bush's endorsement of such "preventive wars" as "immoral, illicit, and imprudent." His son died fighting in the Iraq war in May of 2007.

Let's start with Part II of the interview, here:

If you like what you see, watch Part I here.

In grade school, our teacher taught us a useful trick for taking true or false tests. She said, "if any part of the question is false, then the whole thing is false." It is a very useful rule for taking true/false tests. It is not so helpful in real life.

Inevitably someone will go back and watch part I and say, "yeah, but he likes Carter, so he's a liberal, and you're a socialist for posting this, and only Ron Paul can save us." Or "Moyers said that Russia attacked Georgia so I'm not going to listen to anything he says." Get over it. Take what is true and listen to what you think is not so that you can understand other people. We're not in grade school any more.

Amazing and intelligent

Amazing and intelligent interview.

Where have all the leaders gone....

I believe this is one person that answers Lee Iacocca's question.

Here is a direct link to part 1 and part 2 on PBS. http://www.pbs.org/moyers...

While Mr. Bacevich was serving in Vietnam, I and my friends were just graduating from high school. We swore that we would never, ever allow another Vietnam war in our lifetime. Well, look what has happened. I am so ashamed. What will history have to say about our generation, the baby boomers? If our grandparents or parents were part of the greatest generation, then what is our legacy to be? How dare us send our children to fight a senseless war while we sit at home, review our 401(k)'s, plan our vacations and take our early retirement.

Thank you for the weekend watching assignment, Michael. I had not heard of Andrew Bacevich and I like what I see. I wish I could say the same for the man in my mirror.

Wow! Excellent interview! Long live Andrew Bacevich!

Andrew Bacevich said he was a Conservative, a conservative who likes the Just War Theory (who else do we know who said that?) and who voted democrat Soley because they made the implicit promise in 2006 to end the Iraq War. This man is great.

Ok, now we have the following for the office of the Imperial Presidency... that is, MEN who don't want the job.

Ron Paul
Andrew Bacevich
Rand Paul
Jesse Ventura
Gary Johnson

We have 4 years to get America very familiar with two of them.

If Bracevich were so great ...

... he would have known that voting for Democrats "because they made the implicit promise in 2006 to end the Iraq War," was a futile exercise. Didn't he know that politicians tend to lie a lot? The party system is nothing more than a source of diversion for us peons ... to keep us believing we have a real say in the direction of our country, while the "two parties" keep steering us directly to hell.

Not bragging here, but most of the "deep truths" Bracevich has discovered were obvious to many Americans 15 or 20 or 40 or 50 years ago. In fact, I know of one essayist ... Orestes Brownson ... who knew this country had sold out its ideals over 160 years ago (less than 75 years after the US Constitution took effect).. Bracevich is a very well spoken johnny-come-lately.How about we just welcome him aboard without making him veep..

I am heartily sorry for the loss of his son, Andrew, and for the losses of all people who have been brutalized because of US (really banker promoted NWO) aggression in Iraq, around the world and on 9/11 in NYC. May God's justice be done, but may His justice be tempered with Mercy.

Novel Idea

Andrew Bacevich is a gentle Giant!
(just like Ron Paul)

Thanks for posting.

Excellent interveiw. Well stated arguments. Very sad about his son. He seems a strong and good man. We need individuals such as he to speak truth to power.

Mr Bacevich says 'we need an energy policy'

This points out that he believes that the government can solve problems with the 'correct policy'. BS!

This is the same fallacy that if we put the 'correct' president in office , or any politician, that our problems can be solved by the state.

He does say later on that we need to get the government out of the way in order to head towards a solution.

This is what drew ne towards Dr. Paul, to strile at the root, chop and chop away at the government, actually never stop chopping, because government is like the hydra, it always grows another head, to keep it a servant instaead of master.
"Government is not reason: it is not eloquence; it is a force! Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."
-Pres. George Washington

VP

He would make a great VP for RP.

Lots of Truth Here

Unfortunately, the Imperial Presidency, the spineless Congress, and the "living Constitution" Supreme Court live, breathe and have their being in the blood soaked hands of the INTERNATIONAL BANKING CARTEL. Oddly enough, Andrew Bracevich, obviously a deep thinker, seems to miss the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the room. Everything that the US has become can be traced to big money manipulation ... from unbridled consumerism to unbridled imperialism via scripted events, including 911..

Until people like Bracevich are willing to put themselves on the line and face the bald truth (aka REALITY), hard as it is to look at, nothing will change (save the total conversion of the bankers ... and I'm not holding my breath here).

Your right. Mr. Bracevich should have enough guts to tell the truth, finger pointing directly to the Root of Causes-evil globalist bankers. Our goverment and our politicians are deeply corrupted and not servants of American people, but money changers. Thanks for telling the truth, the plain truth.

Some very good points... we need to find common ground with

everybody... and there's plenty of things we can agree on in this discussion.

Mr. Bacevich nailed it when he said:

"until we the American people look to ourselves to fix the problems here in the states, but instead we are looking to 'a presidential demi-god' for change" (paraphrased a bit) He further went on to say that Congress itself has thrust its power to the president, making the president an imperialistic ruler. That as a nation the "supposed" two party system is really only one, one that protects the continuity of big government.
