Daily Paul Maintenance (Again) - Site on the Blink
It is not you - We're doing some maintenance here to get the site in tip-top shape for next week.
Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned!
How is the site running now - faster, slower? What is the experience like on your end? Thanks.

This is the fastest the
This is the fastest the DailyPaul has ever ran since I have been active on this site. Great job, Michael!
I spoke a little too soon...
Browsing through the site is really fast, but the comment I posted took abaout 30-45 seconds to go through....other than the slow posting the site is working great!
Thank you
Thank you all for your help - your eyes, ears, opinions and input. I could never do it without you!!!

Site is Loading Faster
You all are doing a fine job with your site, keep up the good work!
have not evaluated yet
but seems fine
good luck and I thank you for improving my favorite site..
DP is running
faster, now. Good job.
seems good...
I did have an incident on the 29th where the DP window froze and wouldn't load when I was trying to read one of the posts. Can't remember which post it was (its not on the front page anymore) and I never got to read the whole post cause after a few minutes my attention was drawn to something else, could of just been on my end of things thou. Other than that the site has been loading very well for me. You guys are doing a great job I'd never have known anything was going on (performance wise) if you hadn't told me, and I check the site a minimum twice a day. As for speed I can't really answer we got DSL a few months back so everything always seems really fast, (dial-up was traumatizing!)
C4L culprit?
No slower, no faster than before -- well except it's faster than it was during the maintenance. :)
I think the C4L ticker previously kept hanging up the loading up pages, though; and perhaps the C4L graphic logo now there may be affecting things. I noticed that while the ticker was on the DP, the page would load, but the ticker kept the load running very s l o w l y. More than half the time, the ticker itself never completely drew in its graphics, and the alert at the bottom of the window indicated that C4L was the cause of the wait.
I've also noticed on the C4L site itself, that the "Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty" logo on the home page has problems -- like it's a flash image that can't load properly, and shows up kind of flashing, alternating between a white background and a B&W static background (like old TV set "snow" static), and the lettering of the logo gets kind of blacked out and shimmers all blurry-like.
Unless that's just me having too many martinis while I visit the C4L.
Seriously, I suspect there's issues with the C4L graphics that get translated over to pages that use their graphics. IANAP, but worth looking into, anyway.
/ Mac OS X running Firefox 3.0.1
I agree fan.
Using same system as you. If you read my post below that answers the problem that I was having -- it was C4L related.

Speed of this site
This ite is running just fine. Thanks for all that you are doing!

Smooth
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Yes, it's faster.
Though that may be partly due to less traffic and people loged in at this time of night in the US.
Dr. Paul cured my apathy
Seems faster.
I'd been having probs for about a week. Every time I clicked on a thread the "campaign for liberty" link would show up in the status bar on the bottom of the page.

Better but not great
Page generation times are better. I don't see any visible difference on the home page from how it was yesterday. Submitting a new post/replying still takes makes the db chug a bit. Not as fast as it could be. As long as the page gens are faster that's a good start to making this place more user friendly. I think the page gens could be faster though. My guess is the queries on the index are not optimized. Learning how to use pull only the rows and columns you want can help. Also JOIN and LIMIT can be very nice things.
I suggest getting rid of the "Recent Comments" and "Online Users" block. You could speed the site up a lot by getting rid of them. They are redundant features for such a heavily visited site such as this. If you really wanted to speed up the site farther you could get rid of the "Who's Online" block too. It wouldn't make a big difference on that one but those queries can add up. They are like the background processes on your computer. If you want things to go fast then get rid of the stuff you really don't need.
You could do yourself and your visitors a great service by simply chucking away features that aren't a necessity. For a site as this which does seem to have a constant issue with downtime and slow page gens my advice might help out a lot towards the overall speed of the site.
It's jammin' now...
...opens every page right away.
ahhh xntryk1
must be mostly off for me then... none of the threads are responding, nor responding if I click on reply to a response in this thread.
Perhaps a few minutes to watch this important video

Only this thread working?
All other threads seem to initially appear then followed by a white/blank page with 'done' in the bottom bar.
They're all working....
...but it's still just off and on.

Calling him a "doo-doo head" was probably going a little overboard.

I was just starting to
get paraonoid, thanks
You just think that's Michael
It's actually one of our handlers from one of the alphabet soup agencies getting the new spyware installed.
Don't pay any attention.
Did you know that delegates to the Republican National Convention should never, under any circumstances vote for John McCain? Instead, they should vote for Dr. Ron Paul; because, after all, a vote for Ron Paul is a vote for freedom.
Me
too!
