McCain's pick for VP Sarah Palin is a disaster. Maybe Ron Paul MIGHT win nomination
Submitted by nepos libertas on Sat, 08/30/2008 - 19:18
...assuming the majority of the delegates for McCain feel John McCain's choice for a running mate is execrable.
Little political experience. Zero experience in foreign policy (unlike Joseph Biden, who has chaired Senate Committee on Foreign Relations for some years). Questions of corruption (TrooperGate). Mismanagement of Wasilla Sports Complex land deal that cost at least 20 million dollars of wasted tax dollars plus $1.7 million in lawsuit and court costs. A former beauty queen who proudly calls herself a "hockey mom" as though that's a big accomplishment. This is as bad, if not worse than Nixon's least experienced, corrupt scumbag Spiro Agnew and 41st Bush's vapid, moronically naive wonder boy Dan Quayle.
I honestly expected Romney to be picked as a veep because of his accomplishments and experience in economic-financial knowledge and management. When it was announced that Mrs. Palin is selected as a running mate, I knew it's a ploy to attract the female population comprised of moderate, on-the-fence and disgruntled Hillary supporters. This is cusp of desperation proving McCain's judgment is questionable.
The upside is that some Republican delegates might find the choice for VP appalling that makes them feel despondent about the chance of retaining the White House. They might give Ron Paul a chance to improve the chance of nomination in ballot rounds because McCain's bone-headed choice for a vice president who might be the least experienced president in US history after McCain croak in office frighten them.
The Republican delegates expect good judgment in choosing the running mate based on his/her history of accomplishment and depth of experience in political office. The media rancor over Palin being the choice may have embarrassed the Republican Establishment party, to the point that they are giving the nomination of McCain/Palin a second thought.
This is a perfect opportunity. They should be informed about Ron Paul being a sensible choice (and trusted to pick a substantially experienced and non-corrupt/naive running mate) and cast the ballot provided the RNC honchos don't rig the nominating process and peddle corrupt favors to force McCain on the preferred ticket like the mafia.
I think that with McCain's choice of a running mate who is as bad as Dan Quayle (the power of Internet information provide further insight into Palin's character and degree of experience than what we were fed by the media in 1988) and eventual forcing of McCain as the Republican Party nominee, Republican Establishment party -- who chose to reject Ron Paul by denying him a speaking slot at RNC -- should call it quits in surrender because Obama/Biden will win the election in a landslide.
Here's hoping for Ron Paul to win the nomination. McCain's campaign -- aggressively negative ads attacking Obama, gaffes, ignorant and elitist views and his choice for a VP -- is a disaster for Republican Establishment through and through.
That's why Ron Paul is an alternative choice and the despondent, unenthusiastic delegates (besides RP ones) should know there's the light at the end of the tunnel to make their wise choice. "No way, no how, no McCain!"

The point was to take away Obama's speech
This is the typical politics over competence and the country's welfare. While she might be a good governor, she is not ready to sit down with Putin, should something happen to McSame. And can you imagine the Biden debate, like Benton vs. Quayle "you are no JFK" or in this case no Hillary Clinton. Though I have issues with Obama as well on this score, at least he had the sense to pick someone who has been sent overseas to negotiate with heads of state, and not bring them tea as Hillary did.
With all the problems the country faces, is either one of the leading parties candidates going to roll back the Patriot act, Military Commissions act, the FISA bill, the Executive order 51, or the credit card bill/bankruptcy bill? NO of course not. Both parties are run by the money people in this country, and until they get so greedy as to push the working class people too far into poverty to the point of a revolt, nothing will change. The scary thing to me is Afghanistan, Brzezinski (Carters NSA) drew the USSR into there so they would be ruined, as Afghanistan is where empires go to die, and here it is 20 years later and we fell into the same trap. And I'm supposed to believe Obama and Palin can figure a way out?
"In short, you see, the essential is to cease being free and to obey, in repentance, a greater rogue than oneself. When we are all guilty, that will be democracy. Without countering, cher ami, that we must take revenge for having to die alone. Death is so

Hmm... This may be
Hmm...
This may be considered only loosly related to the topic, but I was speaking with a woman the other day about "leadership". In context, it was about church leadership. I was actually surprised by her comment that she became frightened when women were being ordained as pastors in Christian churches and this is why she left. She thought it spelled trouble.
No doubt that there are women that have the ability to influence and lead, or do good or think logically - but you do have to wonder about the sanity of millions of women who will simply vote for someone based on that persons feminine gender- or because it's "historic' or "new" or "paves the way for full equality" or something of that sort.
If the McCain ploy actually works with large portions of women voters, I'd seriously wonder if it was ever a good idea to let them vote at all.
*puts on flame retardant suit*
I don't care Mclame had Mother Theresa
as a VP I still will not vote for that Stubby Armed Albino War Chipmunk.

I disagree.....
I think that by chosing Palin, the McCain team has caught the Dems of guard in a big way. The Democrats spent the entire primary season energizing the female voters, only to turn their back on them by chosing Biden. If they would have picked Hillary, this thing would be over, but no, they picked a stogy old establishment Senator. I think experience factors are overblown. A governor has much more management responsibility than a Senator. A governor has a smaller microcosm of the Federal system. They oversee legistlatures and budgets and the whole spectrum of management, whereas Senators have to have the "easiest" job in the world! They get assigned to some committee where they don't even have to attend meetings, and then they vote in obscurity so nobody really knows how they're voting, and they don't "manage" anything but a lucrative staff, and even for that, they delegate to someone else. A Senator is about the least prepared selection, in my opinion.
alan laney
I agree with alaney...
Some of the original posters points are valid, but overplayed (IMHO).
This was a play to the conservative base, but she is no "Blue-Blood" Republican... another plus. She has more experience that BHO and when the Dems picked Biden, they shot themselves in the foot... Palin is the salt in that wound.
This woman is a very smart pick to fit into a flawed system.
I like her... I still won't vote for McCain, but now I won't feel AS bad when the GOP gets another 4 years. Who know, McCain might get his ass kicked by Cindy because he picked this babe... she could be our first female prez when Cindy smothers him with his own pillow if he starts talking in his sleep.

Palin knows about Russia
From this Reuters article:
Let's just interrupt the interview for a moment to ask:
Why are Alaska's National Guard troops in Kuwait?? She has to go all the way to Kuwait to see her state's National Guards?
The article continues with InSane describing Palin's extensive foreign policy qualifications (bolding is mine):
See? Palin can point to Russia on a map. So at least she's got a leg up on InSane as far as geography studies go. (Wonder whether he ever figured out where Iraq is?...)

Hey! Does it really matter who McCain picks?
In the end..it's still McCain. Same policies, same temper, same neo-con mentality.
Palin will have no say or control over anything. She's another Obama-like first term-er with no will of her own anymore. She sold out for her fifteen minutes of fame.
Congrats, babe. Bye.

On the upside, I've never heard of her being a CFR, TLC, Bilderberger, etc. Where Obama met up with Bilderberg this year.

Gov. Sarah Palin and Alaska's Legislature last year approved a major increase in taxes on the oil industry -- a step that has generated stunning new wealth for the state as oil prices soared. Already oil companies have stopped drilling on state lands, thanks to the tax burden Alaska imposes. (Similar to Obama's windfall tax and redistribution to a taxpayer rebate)

I don't believe she is in
I don't believe she is in with the CFR, Bilderbergs, etc. but she sure will be a babe in the woods in that crowd. It should not take them long at all to suck her in and destroy her honesty and decency - especially with McWar as a her personal tutor. The best thing that could happen to her is for them to lose this election.
Pat
BOHICA!!
Sometimes I think they are just screwing with our minds
Since the beginning of this election they have thrown every absurd concept into this.
Hillary Clinton, a woman for president who's husband was impeached ?
A Black man for president with ties to organized mafia criminals ?
Then there is mccain who on his best day seems to have a hard time remembering his name.
Now they team the black man who has gone against his original anti-war stance in front of everyone and people don't seem to notice .
Now they have the pro-war mccain adding his VP who is a Ron Paul pro peace advocate ?
I swear this whole thing is just one ludicrous distraction after another.
What's really going on ?

You're missing the point.
America NEEDS someone with ZERO foreign policy experience. It's the foreign policy numbnuts that have gotten us into most wars and who basically keep us playing big brother to Israel.
We need people in Washington who care about America and not about Europe and Israel.
Anyway, don't get me wrong, I would never vote for John McCain even if he chose RP as his running mate....
Quit Crying
Gov. Palin was endorsed by the Libertarian Party in 2006 and said good things about Ron Paul. He won't be the nominee. EVER. Some of you people are worse than Hillary supporters!!!
It could have been Romney or Lieberman. Take this selection as a realization that we are a growing force in politics in this country!!!
McCain knows he will lose. So why not pick a female Teddy Roosevelt and be remembered for making electoral history in the GOP.
Yet she doesn't support legalizing marijuana or gambling...
Pretty shoddy job by the Libertarian Party if you ask me....

And no federal government
And no federal government should be powerful enough to prevent any state from going their own way on this, since that power can just as easily be used for bad as for good. And most likely will be.
Your position is good in theory, but in practical political terms, the best way to ensure liberty is to limit government as much as possible. In a federal election, that means limiting the federal government. Even if that may, on occasion, limit them from forcing a state to allow a particular pet liberty of yours.
It's still a McCain ticket!
I don't care who he got to be his VP he still doesn't get my vote! McCain's pro war, Palin's pro war, she's new to politics and appears she is very naive ("what's a vp do?") and very "moldable" it's a neocon dream ticket.

Do your research. First of
Do your research.
First of all, what the hell does the VP do? Under the constitution, NOTHING! So it's a legitimate question. What do they do, Mr. JBing?
Secondly, she voted for and campaigned for Pat Buchanan in 1996 and possibly even 2000 (when he ran on the Reform ticket). But nah... she's a neocon alright .
You seem to forget who was seriously close to the VP, Lieberman. Talk about a neocon dream ticket.
Stop speaking until you learn how to use words and terms correctly. Calling her a neocon is clearly ignorant on your side.

A vp is around in case something happens to the president...
considering I wouldn't vote for this women to run my state; I really can't trust her with the position of being a heartbeat away from the presidency; especially when your dealing with the oldest presidential candidate in history who has had four bouts of cancer.
But please; go on defending someone with questionable ethic history and absolutely no record of being a fiscal conservative; just becase she said a nice thing about Ron Paul once.

Palin as VP was brilliant
Several of my friends were really excited about Sarah Palin, especially the women. As a guy, what's not to like?
Let's face it. Winning the presidency isn't about issues anymore. It's about personalities and image. The election will be won or lost by a majority of voters who don't know a thing about the issues and only vote on who they feel they like and trust the most.
Sarah Palin is a spunky, beautiful, strong willed woman. That beats anything out there.
I saw her say nice things about Ron Paul and it seemed like she really meant it. So her heart seems to be in the right place.
Obama or McCain are going to win. If Palin is vice president, at least there is a glimmer of hope that things could eventually change the way we want. She could be president and pick someone like Jesse Ventura as vice president and have Ron Paul in the cabinet. At the same time we can get a good group of Ron Paul Republicans into Congress and really get things going. Palin has the natural charm and personality that will be able to win votes. She says she likes and agrees with much of what Ron Paul says. That's a great combination. She would be able to say exactly what Ron Paul does but instead of being perceived as a nut, she would be considered a very smart and wise leader. Many times it's not what is said, it's how it's said and who says it.

I dont think someone in big oils pocket is going to pick anyone like Ventura for VP.

'qualification'
I consider Bush to be completely unqualified. Same for McCain - too many years as a Senator. Palin, in my mind, is initially well-qualified because she has NOT been a part of the corruption. What is needed is a person of character, energy and willingness to follow the constitution governing her jurisdiction. I do not know her that well yet, but check this article: http://pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/opinion/columnist...
"Talk with her for awhile, as I did last Wednesday, and try to count the number of references to her state Constitution. During that phone call, she cited it more than 12 times -- not once gratuitously.
"It's my bible in governing," Palin says. "I try to keep it so simple by reading the thing and believing in it and living it. It's providential. Some of the crafters of the Constitution are still alive. They're my mentors, my advisers. I get to meet with these folks and ask, 'What did you mean by this?' And it makes so much sense."
How is she not corrupt?
She's in the pocket of big oil. Her husband works for big oil. He's cced state and goverment emails. Shes been in several large scandles all involving corruption; including firing a lead cop because he refused to fire the cop who had just divorced her sister.
Lovely lack of corruption there.

Ah?
Big oil? You mean the one she raised taxes for? Her husband works for the oil industry, but she's not in the pocket of big oil. "I want to drill in ANWR" doesn't equal "I want to blow up the world for oil".
Several large scandals? Name them. Firing a cop? Really? You mean the same cop who tazered (sp?) a 11 year old boy? You mean the same scandal which she prompted the legislature to investigate because she knew she didn't do anything wrong? Ya... that's such a huge scandal.
Please, calm down.
The Tazered a 11 year old boy thing isn't true.
Its just counter falsness put out by her supporters. Would there be a ethical investigation for he firing the copif the cop tazered a 11 year old boy? Probably not. This is the only place i've heard this excuse used.
She raised taxes on big oil; by a minimal amount. Even her local Republicans pushed for more of a raise..
She waste 20 million dollars on a ice rink in the town she was mayor of. Leaving every citizen with 4000 dollars of debt to the goverment pratically.
She signed in the biggest operating budget in her states history. 2 billion dollars over the last one! What more do you need to show you all she cares about is BIG goverment?

I'd be happy if you were right
but, barring some skeleton in her past, the Republican base will warm to her in a way McCain could never muster, as will a percentage of gender voters. She effectively excites the pro-life, pro-family, Christian, 2nd Amendment, and blue-collar demographics that McCain was lacking, There are even a few men who will vote for her because she is hot and they want to keep her in view longer.

I don't understand?
I do not understand the strategy here. Now with Obama, Bidden was a logical choice because if Obama had an attack of conscience, (like John Kennedy did), and it became necessary for the ruling class to have Obama assassinated, they would be left with a V.P. replacement that is loyal and obedient to them.
In the case of McCain I think they can depend on his loyalty but may fear his age and health could cut his term short. Does anyone know if Palin is a CFR member or loyalist? If she is then it would make sense to have her as someone in the wings that is loyal, inexperienced and therefore pliable to their dictates, in case McCain kicks the bucket.

I'm not truly familiar with Palin or her qualifications, but I just do not understand what the public considers "experience" for politicians...especially in foreign policy. It seems to me that no experience might be better than someone with a track record like those we commonly see in our executive. I hope inexperience will translate into inactivity. However, I hope that McCain does not get the Presidency anyway...unless his chipmunk cheek is terminal.
