People have been underestimating McCain; he could do well.
McCain's viability is really based on the price of gasoline, not his choice of running mate. If it drops below $3.50/gal., he has an excellent shot. If some outside factor like a hurricane or tensions with Russia or Iran make it climb to $4/gal. or above again, he's doomed. Anywhere in between, and it could be a close race.
After the elections, you should expect a fuel price surge, especially since both candidates back a new war.

It's not much choice between the two. As Ron Paul has pointed out, there's really no difference in their foreign policies. And McCain is a liberal internationalist, just like Obama.
That they got this far, certainly, shows how stupid the people are in the two-party political mainstream.

Democrats tend to choose polished presidential candidates who know how to lie and promise effectively, while Republicans tend to choose figureheads who please all the right corporate bigwigs, and to hell with wit and charm.
