Is Ron Paul going to vote to Impeach Cheney today?

Dennis Kucinich is going to force a house vote to impeach Vice President Cheney on November 6th, 2007. Does anyone know if Dr. Paul supports this?

I think it's an important issue that needs to brought up and I hope he will vote to impeach Cheney once and for all.

I'm sorry

But a vote that helps Cheney, is a vote against what our constitution stands for.

I will be extremely disapointed if Paul uses "constittutional legal-ese" to allow traitors to walk free.

There is a time for peace, and as well there should be a time for justice.

People in Paul's position are the ONLY kinds of people who get to make these types of decisions. Otherwise everybody walks....

This is a time to make a stand.

Ron Paul does not support impeachment

Dr. Paul said in an interview today that he did not believe impeachment was the proper route to go. While I think Cheney is wrong on lots of things, I agree with Dr. Paul.

That is why this campaign and his supporters are still are so wonderful. We can disagree on something like this, and obviously many even disagree with Ron himself, but we can, at the end of the day, still support this awesome guy for President.

The downside to Cheney's removal as VP

So far, Bush has not, and likely will not, give his endorsement to any of the republican candidates. However, if Cheney is removed, Bush gets to hand pick his successor. Can you say Vice President Giuliani? (without gagging that is)

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT

The main sections of the FULL TEXT of the bill as obtained by Atlanta Progressive News are reprinted below. We redacted the individual exhibits supporting various claims, as well as the "line numbers" for flow. However, the files are available here as well: http://kucinich.house.gov...

Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Resolved, That Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate:

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, against Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for high crimes and mis demeanors.

Article I

In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests, to wit:

(1) Despite all evidence to the contrary, the Vice President actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction...

(2) Preceding the March 2003 invasion of Iraq the Vice President was fully informed that no legitimate evidence existed of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The Vice President pressured the intelligence community to change their findings to enable the deception of the citizens and Congress of the United States.

(3) The Vice President’s actions corrupted or attempted to corrupt the 2002 National Intelligence Estimate, an intelligence document issued on October 1, 2002 and carefully considered by Congress prior to the October 10, 2002 vote to authorize the use of force. The Vice President’s actions prevented the necessary reconciliation of facts for the National Intelligence Estimate which resulted in a high number of dissenting opinions from technical experts in two Federal agencies.

The Vice President subverted the national security interests of the United States by setting the stage for the loss of more than 3300 United States service members; the loss of 650,000 Iraqi citizens since the United States invasion; the loss of approximately $500 billion in war costs which has increased our Federal debt; the loss of military readiness within the United States Armed Services due to overextension, lack of training and lack of equipment; the loss of United States credibility in world affairs; and the decades of likely blowback created by the invasion of Iraq. In all of this, Vice President Richard B. Cheney has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as Vice President, and subversive of constitutional government, to the prejudice of the cause of law and justice and the manifest injury of the people of the United States.Wherefore, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office.

Article II

In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda in order to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests, to wit:

(1) Despite all evidence to the contrary, the Vice President actively and systematically sought to deceive the citizens and the Congress of the United States about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda...

(2) Preceding the March 2003 invasion of Iraq the Vice President was fully informed that no credible evidence existed of a working relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda, a fact articulated in several official documents, including...

Article III

In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and done so with the United States proven capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining the national security of the United States, to wit:

(1) Despite no evidence that Iran has the intention or the capability of attacking the United States and despite the turmoil created by United States invasion of Iraq, the Vice President has openly threatened aggression against Iran as evidenced by the following:

(2) The Vice President, who repeatedly and falsely claimed to have had specific, detailed knowledge of Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction capabilities, is no doubt fully aware of evidence that demonstrates Iran poses no real threat to the United States as evidenced by the following:

(3) The Vice President is fully aware of the actions taken by the United States towards Iran that are further destabilizing the world as evidenced by the following...

(4) In the last three years the Vice President has repeatedly threatened Iran. However, the Vice President is legally bound by the U.S Constitution’s adherence to international law that prohibits threats of use of force...

Wherefore Richard B. Cheney, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office.

doubtful

He will most likely vote no, outside shot of 'present'. (is he even in town today?).

Reason: There has been no house investigation into Cheney's alleged crimes and thus it would be out of procedure and in fact set an extremely bad precedent. Will the business of the people be continually interrupted whenever a congress critter takes exception to the policies, statements or actions of an executive branch official they don't like or disagree with?

There must be compelling evidence of a crime, it must be investigated by the judicial committe, voted on and then articles of impeachment voted on by the complete house. It is not meant to be a 'hey i think he's a *bag and lied and broken the law, lets just vote now to impeach him'.

If the house wants to go that route they should do it properly and not halfassed.

How much more evidence do we need...

There is ample evidence. That is not what's is going on here. They Impeached Clinton for far less and no one died or where tortured or outed as a spy...

What more is needed tfor people to understand this is necessary now and not tommorow.

Impeach Cheney now

It's time we show this administration the Constitution and it's remedies for criminals.

It isis obvious.. Cheny is a Traitor

Durning wartime he violated numorous laws including the Survalnece act, outing a covert agent etc.. In the colonial period they would have tar and feathered him.. Impeach and imprision is my motto for those criminals.. hey and dont forget they broke the law when he acidentally deleated his emails.. just so much its so sad...This group of Republicans hyjacked our Constitution our Judiciary and our Party....

as a Wyoming resident

As a Wyoming resident, I am disturbed to learn that Cheney did two things:

1) deceived us about his involvement in the CFR

2) laughed at us about his deception

by his own admission...

By his own admission, on video, Cheney laughs at his deception of Wyoming voters:

OMG! don't know what to say

[Reply got attached to the wrong comment, this was in response to YouTube http://youtube.com/watch?... in a different reply.]

And I thought some people witting about this were just too paranoid, but a congressman to say it out loud. I'm just blown away.

I think I know how Dr. Paul is going to vote. I would.

Impeach for what?

There may be a case to impeach Cheney, but let's make clear what it is for.
It's not about 9/11 or some kooky false flag.

It should be about outing a CIA agent (Plame) and war crimes for allowing torture. I don't believe that 9/11 was an inside job, and I don't think Ron Paul thinks so either (at least no without evidence, like me).

I think it all depends on what the reasons for a call for impeachment is for.

Well.. get ready for some counter-reaction.

Ralph Nader: "Things Are a Lot Worse than We Thought!"
http://youtube.com/watch?...

Why he only going after just Cheney though? lol wonder.. >.<

It is a method they need chaney first

If not, you get bush out then who is in charge? Cheney thats why.

I think that Ron Paul will

I think that Ron Paul will do the right thing. I trust his judgement, better than my own, to be honest, because I suspect he does not give in easily to feelings that affect his judgement. That is why he is so amazing. I can support him no matter how he votes, because I know he will be voting his conscience, and from a Constitutional perspective. If only all the "Representatives" were like him.If it were me, I would have a hard time with this one, because I think it is unjustified, yet my negative feelings for Cheney might sway me.
Many politicians, particularly Republicans of late, have said that they won't vote based on polls, or make decisions based on polls. They must take that stance from Ron Paul, because he is the only member of the House who has the record to back it up.

I don't think Ron Paul is going to vote for it

He said few times, that first there should be an investigation.

Congress shouldn't vote for impeachment only because congress doesn't like somebody. Somebody must clearly break the law (the interview on TV is not under oath so it doesn't count).

I disagree

A public official has a duty to tell the truth at all times. I'm not sure which TV interview you are talking about, but if Cheney was lying to the public, that would be impeachable.

There must be any number of ways to impeach Cheney.

Famous Quote from Justice William O. Douglas

"The Constitution is not neutral.
It was designed to take the government
off the backs of people."

Impeachment is the investigation

If evidence of wrong doing is found then he is removed from office and criminally charged if necessary..

I don't see himvoting on this...

It's not because it might not be the right thing to do, but the most important thing is for Dr. Paul to gain the presidency. Therefore he will go the positive route and spread the message instead of drawing criticism from his own party.

what if

there may be no presidency, if Cheney and Bush aren't impeached. they could easily declare an emergency military state if an attack occured. they're anxious to nuke Iran. I say get them out at all costs as soon as possible.

I think it can only help him...

Imagine what the world will think when these people are brought to justice. It will show the world that WE THE PEOPLE stand for justice and that we can take care of business. Politics is not a reason to forfeit what is the duty of the Congress.

I hope he does what''s right..

Good night everybody and great job yesterday!!!

It wont matter...

what the Rep Party will think about his vote. The Rep party doesnt care for him in the first place.

Even if he pulls a greater number of primary wins I doubt the Rep Party would nominate him, so I say he ought to vote YES on bouncing the veep for 3 reasons 1) Uphold the rule of law 2) Appeal to the 30% of the nation that is moderate/independent, 3) Give the media another reason to 'take a closer look' at RP to show that while his political philosophy is not in the mainstream, it is consistent and principled.

I would say that impeachment

I would say that impeachment should only be cast if there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing. I'm sure RP wouldn't jump the gun, and there seems to be a sort of mob mentality with people lately. We should sit back and see how this plays out. I just don't believe we could possibly have all the information with the media manipulating it so heavily.

Outing a CIA agent.. for one

Let's not forget what the Special Prosecutor said about tis case. He said it points to Cheney himself. It was obstructed by Libby of which he was convicted and immediately pardoned.

I think I know how this turns out if we just sit back and watch.

The American Revolution 2.0 will not be televised... It will be downloaded!!!

I'm 100% in favor, but it's tricky

Voting to impeach someone in your own party is risky. No matter how good the reasons, there will be a big backlash. Will there also be a lot of support? He's got mine, but I also know Repubs who would get skittish over that and quite likely turn against him, which could hinder the campaign. Honestly, I don't know what I would do in his shoes. I do recall him saying he thought more investigation was warranted before bringing charges, which isn't a firm position in either direction. That was months ago now.

Do you mean the Republicans who already against him?

The GOP is working against him as it is.

Most of his support comes from outside the GOP and from those Republicans who still believe in justice for all. I don't see how this could be a negative for him. I think if he doesn't it may become a negative simply because he voted to Impeach Clinton.

I think it would be a mistake to politicize this issue so as to not ruffle feathers. There is ample evidence of wrong doing and I think principle matters most. I think it would send a strong message.

The American Revolution 2.0 will not be televised... It will be downloaded!!!

no, I mean rank and file Republicans

Sounds to me like you may not know very many of them. ;-)

It would be great if everyone were as on top of things as those on this site. Most aren't, and we have to deal with things as they are. There's a line between pragmatism and principle and there's also the complicating factor of multiple simultaneous goals: getting elected vs. taking stands on controversial or even politically dangerous issues. Sometimes the choices are clear, other times not so much.

The party establishment is largely against us, but the base is split.

Get into your local GOP meetings like we are doing here. Things there are probably different than you think they are. Our next Ron Paul meetup meeting is in our state GOP HQ. They're locking us in after hours to hold our meeting there. We can use their office equipment. Our slim jims are on the table in the front office. What do you think impeachment would do to that scenario?

It really is not a simple question, and again, I don't know what I would do, but I support Ron regardless, because I trust him to do what is best and most pragmatic, within the limits of honor and integrity.

Cheney must be brought of answer for his actions and I think it would be important for Dr. Paul to join the call for Impeachment.
