Has the two party system lost all credibilty?
After the debacle last night on the Convention floor it would be hard to argue that the two party still has a relevance. These past weeks we've seen the Political System expose us to it's rotteness. Now some may believe they can work within the party and bring things back to integrity,if they can that's very good. However I for one have some serious doubts that can be done, not without changing some things about the election process itself. There's something something wrong about candidates spending 80 million Dollars to get a job that's around 250 thousand a year.I think we should maybe push to have a Presidential election fund,a multi-million Dollar pot that everyone who is a registered candidate has equal access to.No one can outspend any other candidate because they all have to share of the whole. Also all registered candidates from whatever party they are from should have equal representation in media, whether they are Independent,Libertarian,Constitutional,Republican,Democrat or whatever other parties there may be.These candidates should be allowed to debate each other in independent forums, not controlled by the parties themselves where the party can manipulate the process and exclude candidates. Also we should push to repeal the state requirements for write-in votes, all votes should be counted whether a candidate has filed for write-in status or not ,in all states.
We should also push for a unbiased truth based media network to counter the MSM,a major alternate TV and Radio, and internet information network people have to get more information then what they receive from mass media.I also think we could benefit from a curtailment of monetary lobbying of elected officials. Not individual lobbying such as petitions of redress and the like, but corporate monetary lobbying. All elected officials should be held to operate within the confines of the Constitution, and those that do not comply it should be easy to call them to the table by the first amendment redress, parties guilty of transgress should be held accountable.Citizens should have the power to call bad laws to be redressed i.e. Patriot Act,National I.D,Article 51 etc.
Maybe I'm asking to much but I think if we do not address some of these issues soon we will keep getting the same stuff they hand us every four years. If you can add to this go ahead,
"When they take away our ability to communicate, that's when we really have trouble"-Ron Paul

wait, it had credibility??
The thing i don't like about federal campaign financing [in its current form and in the one you've proposed] is that private citizen's dollars are being taken from them to finance a candidate [whether one or many] that they might not necessarily support. How egregious would it have been that if during the GOP primaries the nation decided to take your money and distribute it evenly to all candidates, including mccain, romney, guilianni, and huckabee [not to mention obama, edwards, clinton, biden, etc] and forbidding us to voluntarily donate our dollars to ron paul. We were the top fundraising campaign in the critical fourth quarter of 07 and we still had trouble getting fair coverage. Imagine if we had the same amount as everyone else? We'd have to rely even more on media coverage because we've lost our monetary advantage, which is indicative of our passion. That's something the other campaigns didn't have on their side.
I agree about the debates and the corporate monetary lobbying. But, with regards to your media concerns, we already can counter the MSM as consumers in a free market economy. When there is a product that you do not support, you have the right [and obligation] to boycott it and seek an alternative product you do support. If you cannot find it, then create it. If you feel so strongly, it's likely others will as well and you have a market you can cater to. If the other sheep like what they're getting, then they have the right to follow FOX, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Clear Channel, Radio America, whatever.
But we're already attempting to set up our own media outlets; Revolution Broadcasting is a great organization we can all throw some support behind. We've already got the internet organizations like Infowars, Lew Rockwell and the like. If we can just be creative enough to join these efforts together and take it to the next level, we can create our own media powerhouse.

The whole game is rigged like a puppet show, but most of the public is too stupid to see the strings.
Exactly
That's exactly why we need a media outlet to compete with mainstream,a outlet big enough to be recognized alongside Fox News Corp.,CBS,ABC,NBC,CNN and so on.The only way to educate people is to stream a counter information to the mainstream propaganda. It was a sad day for the American dream the last few days,Russian TV gave more favorable coverage to Ron Paul and the Rally then most American News outlets. And at the same time that was happening John McSame was touting the great democracy of Georgia and proceeded to condem the Russians.
I understand
the money going to candidates that people might not support, but still we must have a way to level the playing field.Candidates (probably some good ones) can't even get access to the ballots without spending millions which was my point really to get equal access to all candidates without favoring others. The case for abusing the rules exists in most any proposal I guess. Thanks for the input,I'm sure when we all put our heads together we will find a working solution.

Yes, the 2 party system...
sucks, and unfortunately the average Joe American that is not paying attention will suffer for it because they will be voting once again for crap.
We do not really choose the
We do not really choose the President. And we do not really choose the nominees of the two major parties, either. But we are convinced, as a nation, that we do.

Indeed
The two party system is two sides of the same corrupt coin. The two party system has hijacked American politics for arguably 100 years. The two party paradigm is not accounted for in the Constitution. I believe the founders at times were smarter then we give them credit. The founders knew that political parties could become corrupt. We are supposed to give the Presidency to the candidate that receives the most votes for President. The person with the second most votes for President is supposed to become the Vice President. In my opinion this was supposed to be another check and balance. You would have a President and Vice President that disagreed on matters and made decisions for the good of the country and not the good of some stupid political party. It is obvious the Republicans and Democrats have hijacked our system so that they always control who gets elected. They will never allow a 3rd party to gain power. Look at how far the R's and D's go to keep 3rd party candidates out of debates, off ballots, away from media exposure, etc. The declaration of independence states that we the people can over throw our government if it becomes too overpowering and corrupt. With the obvious 2 party paradigm in my opinion this maybe our only solution. Unless some miracle occurs and a 3rd party starts to win seats in Congress, State Legislatures, Executive office, etc. we the people will have to put up with this absurdly corrupt democracy. It is time we restore the Constitutional Republic given to us by our forefathers.

YES
Thank you republicans, from 94 thru present, most specifically W, for giving me freedom, political freedom. I can now vote 3rd party with complete confidence there's no difference between R's and D's.
A special thank you to John "I served with the guy" Kasich. You sir are much better at writing about heroes than being one. While you and your self serving blowhard buddies are busy moving an agenda....Ron Paul is moving a nation.
What exists in the US
is a one-party system.
It represents the State.
What we think of as the two-parties are actually only 2 factions of the same party.
They have brainwashed most people to think of "Left/Right" political spectrum, and have purposely ignored the "Top/Bottom", which is the true political spectrum.
The Top/Bottom spectrum is the polar opposites of Statist control vs freedom.
What we've been conditioned to vote between are the two sides of Statism, and those are Socialism and Fascism. Left and right sides of the Statist end of the true spectrum. The people are not even informed that there is a "Freedom" end of the political spectrum, because they don't want us to know about that, or think about that.
Until people realize that we've not even been informed of the true political spectrum, they make their choices based on a false premise that the only choice is which Statist form they select to be their master.
The 2 party system never had
The 2 party system never had any credibility, we weren't supposed to be a 2 party system or any parties for that matter. It burns me up when folks today think that this is how it is supposed to be. We are all nuts and Dr. Paul is nuts because we want things to be done the way it is supposed to be, the Constitutional way.
A lot of people actually think that having 2 parties is in the Constitution, I saw Charlie Rangel on Larry King I think when Ventura was on as well talking about how no one else had a right to be on the ballot because it went against "our 2 party system"
Thank you Dr. Paul for making my act on what I already knew was right.
Yes, they've lost it all. I
Yes, they've lost it all.
I was thinking the best way to take advantage of the two party system and make it even more irrelevant would be for Jesse Ventura to run for President in the Democratic party in 2012.
This way he'll get to participate in the debates while he blatantly disregards the Democratic party platform... Deeming the party label irrelevant.
Not to mention, all his supporters will surely change party affiliation to vote for him just like we did to vote for Ron Paul.

I think we should
break their fingers so they can't vote. Peace
And right now
the people are believing the MSM broadcast of McSame's acceptance speech claiming that he's bringing change to Washington. There's some ocean front property in Arizona.........
