Two Republican Conventions in 2008: An Eyewitness Contrast

A political party that needs that much security to keep people out of their convention, is probably enforcing unpopular rule over the people.

That first image really says it all - a main street downtown, blocked off with fences, every vehicle entering being stopped and the people detained and searched for bombs.

It reads STOP in big red letters across the gate, and "Road Closed" on the side, but there should be a sign that says, "Welcome to the 2008 Republican convention. Please get out of your vehicle and wait while we search your car for bombs."

I thought he did a good job of summing it up. The C4L should adopt this as its slogan.
1) War versus Peace
2) Security versus Freedom
3) Deficit Spending versus Sound Money
4) Welfare versus Personal Responsibility
5) Government versus Liberty

I'm the tall guy whose face is partially obscured by the right hand of the pretty brunette holding up the RP sign toward the right side of the shot. 2 more Oregonians are standing next to me.

BTW, some of those plastic zip-tie cops showed up in the R4R, too -- but only during the Sara Evans concert at the end. I saw them standing near the passage from the VIP seating area to the SRO area around the stage, where I was at that time. When the concert was ending and everyone was filing out, I saw a group of about a dozen of these cops exiting along with everyone else. They looked kind of bored/relaxed, which prompted me to almost ask them a question. I would have if I'd been able to formulate the wording of it in time, but I was pretty tired by then. The question would have been something like "so, did we keep you guys busy with all our violent behavior tonight?" LOL.

Thanks for posting this! So much of our taxpayer money was wasted on that farce....

Lurked for about a year, but now from the shadows I have come.

to see this pop back up. I lost it and wanted to blast it out to my email list.

My opinion is, yes of course I have one, that the RNC is paranoid and seem to have some reason to believe that someone might want to do harm to them!!!! Wonder why?

I'm really wondering how many people attended the RNC, and how many came to the RFR. If we mustered even a tenth as many people as the RNC did, that's a great start for a movement as new as ours.

Make no mistake the RNC and the elite political establishment are nothing short of f^*#!%g enraged at being upstaged by Dr. Pauls wonderful day long CFL rally in Minneapolis and especially the way Ron made them look like fools for not letting him attend let alone speak at the convention. The rally dominated C-span for an ENTIRE DAY! right smack in the middle of the dog and pony show across the river as well as being plastered all over the media with accolades. They just can't turn off the switch I mean here is Ron on Glenn Beck, here is Ron on Colbert stumping his awesome book ... here is Ron Paul ... here is Ron Paul ... here is Ron Paul. All that money was spent for security in St Paul because they were itching to beat the shit out of Rons supporters but they got tricked because we were all in Minneapolis having a ball in front of the cameras while they were chasing anarchists like retarded chickens. Our delegates were treated like they were because that is the only stupid game that could be played out of the many wicked things they had planned for us, Dr. Paul stuck it to them but good and they are ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed reading that. I had no idea the contrast between security for the GOP and R4R was so stark.

Maybe it's just me but throughout this week watching the differences between the conventions I came away with the following thought: There were many more real American's at the Rally for the Republic.

The GOP convention was a dog and pony show for the special interest groups. Every time they panned down on the crowd at the GOP I only got the feeling I was looking at lobbyists and friends of the elite. When I watched the Rally for the Republic I felt like I was among fellow American's. When they smiled I smiled, when they cheered I cheered. Not for the man but the concepts. What a sad bunch of people inside the GOP convention, most likely have sold their soul for a bit of extra money.
