According to the necropsy, 7-year-old Payton was shot four times, twice in the chest and twice in the head. One of the shots entered through his mouth and lodged in the back of his neck.
Four-year-old Chase was shot twice. One bullet entered the dog's back left leg, then lodged in his right back leg. The other entered his side and passed through his chest.
(Mayor) Calvo said the necropsy has bolstered his contention that neither dog was threatening law enforcement officers during the raid and that one dog was shot from behind as he fled into a back room.

A sheriff's department SWAT team and county police narcotics officers burst into the mayor's home July 29 after police intercepted a 32-pound package of marijuana addressed to Trinity Tomsic, Calvo's wife.
Police cleared Calvo and Tomsic of wrongdoing, saying they were victims of a drug smuggling scheme in which drug-filled packages addressed to unsuspecting recipients were intercepted by a FedEx deliveryman.

behind their swat mask should be made to carry their own insurance rather than hide behind the publics purse. Let them pay their increasing premium for every time their cowboy testosterone gets them in a situation like this and you would soon see them wise up. Same goes for the "Judge" who supposedly issued the order empowering these bullies. The fact that it was the County Sherrifs pulling off this raid who chose not to inform the local police speaks volumes.

What ever happened to building a case and doing a little recon?
I can't understand why they would think a SWAT raid was even appropriate to start with. Why not surround the house and knock on the door?
Are we supposed to believe anyone who breaks into our house in SWAT gear is the police? Cause that stuff is easy enough to come by for civilians. They come busting into my house shooting my dogs they better hope they are a better shot than me, because military body armor is thicker than typical police gear :)
The mayor's wife should sue the PD and whatever officer authorized the SWAT should be fired. Regardless of whether or not the dogs were a threat, they never should have raided the house in that manner.

There is no just reason to gun down two innocent house dogs.....im sure after they were shot the first time they were lying on the ground...no reason to unload seven shots into a dog....

It was not justified at all but are you saying that that is the contention? Shocking and tragic and just goes to show how barbarous people are today. Using dogs for target practice is outrageous. They will get there's someday. What goes around comes around.

here's just a few examples.....
In a massive 1998 raid at a San Francisco housing co-op, cops shot a family dog in front of its family, then dragged it outside and shot it again.
When police in Fremont, California, raided the home of medical marijuana patient Robert Filgo, they shot his pet Akita nine times. Filgo himself was never charged.
Last October police in Alabama raided a home on suspicion of marijuana possession, shot and killed both family dogs, then joked about the kill in front of the family. They seized eight grams of marijuana, equal in weight to a ketchup packet.
In January a cop en route to a drug raid in Tampa, Florida, took a short cut across a neighboring lawn and shot the neighbor’s two pooches on his way. And last May, an officer in Syracuse, New York, squeezed off several shots at a family dog during a drug raid, one of which ricocheted and struck a 13-year-old boy in the leg. The boy was handcuffed at gunpoint at the time.
There was a dog in the ragweed bust I mentioned, too. He got lucky: He was only kicked across the room.
I guess the P.R. lesson here for drug war opponents and civil libertarians is to emphasize the plight of the pooch. America’s law-and-order populace may not be ready to condemn the practice of busting up recreational pot smokers with ostentatiously armed paramilitary police squads, even when the SWAT team periodically breaks into the wrong house or accidentally shoots a kid. I mean, somebody was probably breaking the law, right?
But the dog? That loyal, slobbery, lovable, wide-eyed, fur-lined bag of unconditional love?
Dammit, he deserves better.

this was a setup
i dont think anyone in thier right mind would have weed (especially 32 pounds of it) sent to thier house through the mail or fedex. and a mayor to boot. this was the mafias' way of saying "go away or else".we own the cops and we know how to use them. the pot was a plant (no pun intended) to incriminate them.

against a move in 98-99 to put 2500 more cops in an already police-saturated area. I was the mayor of a town a few miles from Cheye and I can't believe he stayed in that crazy county. its the same county that threatened to arrest parents for not immunizing their kids.

Remember these things next time you all serve on juries.
If there's any justice in the world,
these SWAT officers that committed those acts will find themselves being removed "toes-up" from the next house they raid.
