Ron Paul Delegates Voted for McCain

"About a dozen Massachusetts supporters of the Texas Congressman and GOP upstart decided to back McCain only an hour before the delegates began to cast votes for the presidential pick.

“We decided the best course of action was to give a little to get a lot,” said Chris Blanc, a Cambridge resident who supports Paul. “The Massachusetts GOP really wanted to show unanimous support.”

"The four Ron Paul Nevada delegates all voted for John McCain, too. Then they claimed victory: we showed them that they can't take us for granted.

"One of those four had even solicited (& received) donations from the Las Vegas RP Meetup Group to help pay her way to St. Paul."

this is just sick and wrong....

WTF??????????????? are they brain dead?? they do not deserve to be delegates....REAGAN WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ELECTED..IF PEOPLE THOUGHT LIKE THAT !! can you imagine...the ford delegation saying "please vote for Ford..we want to show unity..."

I will say it ...any delegate that caved is a coward!!!!

..again Lincoln would never have gotten elected..had the delegates thought like you guys...What is unity??? we dont need unity we need the truth...

if I have the time and money..I would sue each of you ..who turned your back on all of us ..and Ron Paul....

I am just sick about this...

"give a little to get a

"give a little to get a lot"

What exactly did they get???

“The Massachusetts GOP really wanted to show unanimous support.”

Unanimous support simply for the sake of unanimous support? What exactly did they accomplish by doing so?

Considering we are a

Considering we are a representative republic, all those who voted for Paul and his delegates have been disenfranchised.

There were never any Ron Paul delegates in MA

Ron Paul received a paltry percentage of the vote in MA. There were no delegates bound to him. We had Paul supporters go in hopes that we'd get through the first round of votes and be free to vote for Paul but it never got that far (and he never made it to the roll call ballot anyway).

I can't speak for NV though. I don't know what happened there.

THEY ARE TRAITORS

pure and simple. I don't care what the argument on their behlf may be. NOTHING was sufficient enough of an argument for them to turn their backs on us. NOTHING. They were sent there to do something. Screw the Obama/McCain argument..it is simply more of the same party driven manipulation using fear of "the other". It doesn't matter one iota. They had a responsibility to us and their own children and I hope their just desserts are being plated right now.

You could have had the whole convention in my face and I have mentioned no other name that that of Ron Paul. I have to look in the mirror to shave...

Dr. No

Having not been there the perspective is interesting to read, BUT ... how many times has Ron stood by principle and integrity year after year in the face of incredible pressure and cast a vote of dissention?

''It's not a conspiracy or a plan,'' Mr. Paul said. ''I come to those votes because I look at each one according to my promises.''

Ron Paul keeps his word. Our delegates should have as well.

Response from one Masshole

Hi all,

I was an alternate delegate to the RNC and a RP supporter from MA. Please allow me to offer my personal perspective on this matter:

1) As soon as this went down I told my friends in my group that they embarrassed me and the first thing I was going to do when I got back was to go on the record and distinguish myself from their choice. I stood in stark opposition to those in favor of this deal. I pleaded with those involved not to accept it. I told them we could build bridges on top of character, not compromise. I explained to them that it would ignite a proverbial shit storm of the internet and would break the hearts of many in the revolution if we did this. I wasn't alone in opposing this either. There were quite a few of us, including Michael Nystrom.

2) Were I a delegate (and not an alternate) with a vote I would have abstained instead of voting for McCain.

3) Unlike some of the horror stories that came out of other states, our state GOP handled our participation in the MA delegation with integrity and respect from day one. Case and point: we had some ridiculous challenges levied against us by some embittered republicans in the state who lost to our representatives in the caucuses. The state party had all the rope they needed to hang us based strictly on the fact that we were Ron Paul supporters and they did NOT do that. They played by the rules, even though I'm sure it was uncomfortable for some of them. Even during the negotiations they encouraged us to do whatever was right for us. As far as I'm concerned the MA GOP is alright in my book. In fact I went on record with CNN and Restore the Republic TV a day before any of this happened to give credit where credit was due. I believe its important for the Revolution to know that it is possible to have respectful, open and honest relationships with people in their state party. In fact, I had conversations with members of the WV delegation and they worked well with their RP delegates as well. Not every state had the nightmare scenario NV did.

4) Now, all of that being said, and having gone on the record as having admonished my fellow RP supporters who opted for this deal, I'd like to make a few things clear:

a) NONE of us were every allowed to vote for Ron Paul because he was NOT on the roll call ballot. What you won't hear about Chris Blanc (my friend and delegate from MA who helped put the deal together) is how he spearheaded the on-the-ground initiative to GET Dr. Paul on the roll call ballot at the convention. He's the one that put that together. He's the one that pushed for that AFTER Drew Ivers and the Campaign for Liberty told us to forget about trying. Chris is the one that put his money where his mouth was when it came to defending unbound delegate's right to vote their conscience for Dr. Paul. He, my good friend Frank Capone and the RP supporters from WA were down on the floor with makeshift petitions and clipboards in hand having very difficult conversations with members of other delegations trying to complete a Hail Mary (as my friend Matt put it). (Props to the WA delegates for getting the endorsement of the Virgin Islands).

b) You also won't hear about how Chris paid out of his own pocket to attend the caucus. Or how he missed his kids' first day at school to go to the RNC. Or how he was the mastermind behind the "Ronald Reagan Republicans" slate that had us sweep our district caucus for Ron Paul. Chris is a good guy and even though I was screaming in his face on Wednesday night about all of this, I'm proud to be his friend.

c) Part of what we're fighting for in this revolution is the freedom for states to choose their own destiny. That's because we believe people closest to situations are best suited to make decisions about those situations. So, while I even I don't like what happened, I can't pretend to know what was right for those who decided to back the deal. Likewise, I don't believe anyone who was not there at that moment can pretend to understand - in full - what went down. I saw my friends TORN APART by this decision and I didn't like it one bit.

The next day I apologized to my friends. Not as a concession of my beliefs (I stand by what I would have chosen were I in that position). Rather because I was unkind to them. I was unkind to assume to have the right to choose for them. And while I had an opportunity to petition them to take my opinion to heart, when they didn't, I reacted, accosted them, accused them, judged them and berated them.

You know where that got me? I felt like an asshole. I felt awful because, when I looked in their eyes, I saw how sad they were.

I wish you saw how hard this was on all of us. This is coming from the main decenter in the group. I believe these are good people, patriots and Americans who had a tough choice to make and they made it. They chose. They could have run. They could have hid. But they were men and women about it - adults - and they own their responsibility and choice in the matter. And I respect that.

Life doesn't always throw softballs at you people. American politics at this level is definitely hardball. And while I'd like to think I'd never make another mistake in my life, I understand that's unlikely. There's a reason why Dr. Paul stand alone as Dr. No in congress - it's because this shit is NOT easy and it's not always clear what the right thing to do is... especially when you're young, inexperienced and under pressure.

I hope I don't come off like I'm making excuses for what happened. I told my friends they would have to pay the price for their decision and getting dragged across the coals is part of that. Unlike the liberals, I believe pain is a valuable teacher in life. That being said, I am petitioning you for compassion. Compassion like this:

"Love is patient, love is kind... it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

I believe what is done is done and while I don't like what happened, I respect my friend's right to choose their own path. In fact, that's a big reason why I joined this movement - to embrace others' freewill. I believe in time some of them will come to understand why I (and many of you) believe it was so important to stand in defiance.

In liberty,

Re

What do you mean by saying some Ron Paul supporters were elected as delegates? Your not elected as a delegate unless it it for a certain person. Are you saying that Ron Paul supporters are elected as McCain Delegates or that they are unbound delegates, free to vote for the person they wish? If the former, then I agree with the vote, if the latter... They are sell outs. Pure and simple.

Let me tell a story, when Goldwater came to power, he attacted a groundswell of support. Later, that support went to Regan. He was close in rhetoric to Goldwater. So much so that even Ron Paul supported his canidacy. However, he showed himself in office to not be what he sold himself as to the people that put him in power.

This mattered not. The supporters of Goldwater looked in pride at their "acomplishment" and did not realise they had sold out (Ron Paul was a rare exception). They called themselves Goldwater/Regan conservatives. Oh sure, they reasoned, Regan was not as conservative as we expected/wanted but he WON. We voted for a WINNER.

With such platitudes they continued their voting. Hey, did you notice that a conservative that adopted liberal policys got elected? It seems voters want that. It's the only way we can stay in office this term, maybe next term they would be ready and we can be more ideologically pure then but that time is not now. So they vote for a slightly more liberal man. Even though he's more liberal, they can use him to somehow slip in conservative values. It's sure to work, right?

Except that never happened. We now come to McCain. He is the most liberal "conservative" we have nominated yet but still the platitudes remain. Just get our guy in office and we can use him to bring across more conservative values. Except you can't because the abandoning of said values is exactly why "conservatives" keeps winning. The nominees TALK about things changing. Such as Roe vs Wade being abandoned but they don't mean it. Talk is talk.

So here we are, all those conservatives that had so much hope for a brighter future of limited goverment have become the greatest enablers of liberalism. But WAIT! Remember Ron Paul? The guy who rejected what Regan became? What discipline! For decades he voted his beliefs and never gave an inch. He was punished for it. Mocked and ostracized but he never. Gave. An. Inch. We should support him.

So we did. New people come in, they work hard, they become delegates. See themselves as the new Goldwater conservatives (also known as Ron Paul Revolutionaries) because the old genration totally sold out. They sold out so hard they didn't remember what they used to be like. We would be different. We learned form the past. We knew that even one step to comprimising our values will lead us to become what we hate.

"I went out to change Washington but in the end Washington changed me."

How many times have we heard that? It's HARD to retain your morals. We all know how hard and we must know that there will be many that just can't cut it. They WILL play ball. They WILL make what seems a trivial compromise in order to "get a lot". So they can become part of the machine. I will change the machine, they say, except, not this term. So they get elected and two years pass. Time to really show what I am made of, right? Except... if I am too conservative then they will not reelect me. I'll give a little to get a lot. So a second term comes by and they get reelected. Is now the time? No... Not yet, I must support the new liberal Republican nominee for president. I must be less conservative to help get him elected so that we can influence him to be more conservative then he currently is. I'll bend a little more to "get a lot".

Eventually, the people that voted for McCain will become what they hate and they won't even know they have sold their souls by the time it's over. Once again Ron Paul shows the way. He could have gone to the convention if he had endorsed McCain but he didn't because he understands, like the sell-out delegates do not. No one would have forgiven him if he had. Why do some people seem to think that what is unaceptable for Ron Paul is somehow acceptable for a Ron Paul delegate? That the smaller players can trade their integrity in "small" ways to get, what they believe is, "a lot"? This will only cause you to eventually abandon everything you stood for and become exactly what you hate.

No one says it's easy. In fact, we all knew it WOULD be hard and WOULD be thanklesss and might not get anywhere for years or even decades. You could work 10 terms in obscurity even but at least you still have your soul. This is why those that voted for McCain get no sympathy, this is why they deserve none. There is no need to hate them, no need to yell but they are on the road to conformity and are of no real use to this movement anymore. They need to be kicked from their positions in this movement.

Comprimise is not an option, ever.

Thanks for shining a light

Thanks for shining a light on this situation when we need it most. I agree until someone has been there, they need to be a bit more understanding of what happened. It's not the end of the world, although to a high-strung crowd like us it might seem that way. Life continues.

What this shows is that good, decent

people can be corrupted by the evil doers with the right persuasion.

We, who were not there, probably cannot understand.

To me, there is NO excuse for giving up what we fought for. To "unite" the Republican party is the worst reason!

Don't have to look up their kilts....

to see the lack of Cajones. Didn't have to be there to know they weren't tortured. Don't have to listen to any explanations because there is none that is adequaste short of an immediate death threat to their loved ones.

**“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.” ~ Mark Twain **

They prob just offered them

They prob just offered them money!!! why is that so hard to figure out?

Hmm...

The question that runs through my mind as I read the various justifications of why delegates gave in is: Does the end justify the means? To say "yes" to this question leads one down a very slippery slope, in my opinion. The thing that bothers me even more is that, even after compromising, one can't be assured that they will be granted "the end" that they hope for. In that case, one has gained nothing and lost their integrity in the process.

Compromise

The end never justifies the means. Our only hope is to cling to principle.

"In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit." -- Ayn Rand

maybe some of the paul

maybe some of the paul delegates were really neo con infiltrators? and were trying to destroy our morale by these reports of delegates switching over ... true paul supporters would never switch over

Sadly, that would make me feel better.

This pisses me off

but, keep in mind. Even though I never heard Ron Paul say it directly, I believe he "folded", "was tricked", "caved in", whatever you want to call it. I belive he voted for George W Bush.

I'm not condoning or minimizing. I would like to think I would of been able to hold out and stick it to these scoundrels, but I wasn't there. I do know the pressure, threats and frustartion would of made me sick, maybe that's what the constituates saw in me and never elected me as a delegate in the first place.

Expose These Traitors

We should expose these traitors and let everyone know exactly who they are so that they cannot repeat this again.

Let us not be taken over the hump again by these low lifes who explain themselves like used car salesmen.

Liars and Traitors will be there mark till they die!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

agreed

Wow. What a bunch of

Wow. What a bunch of spineless cowards.

WWRPD?

I'm not sure I agree with y'all

Granted, on the face of it, it looks like a sell out. But... when these folks get back to Massachusetts, they will be in with the Republican establishment. They will be looked at a little skittishly, but they should be able to participate in the party. As the old party regulars move out due to age or lack of interest, or whatever, these folks will still be there. In the mean time, we can continue to grow and young revolutionaries will have a person who's been there and can show them the ropes. If we go along to get along, we will eventually take the party back. They are shrinking, we are growing. If we fight them inside the party, we will be stonewalled at every turn.

Allowing your vote to be manipulated is no way to gain respect.

Just used. I'm sure the McWar campaign was more than happy to add
these new tools to their war chest and having a good laugh at the expense of us all. I feel especially bad for Ron Paul.

I feel for Dr. Paul also

One thing he has stressed was not to compromise his principles by falling behind McCain or Obama because they are far and away from his principles. These delegates compromised Paul's principles for their own for party unity.Party unity doesn't mean doodly squat if you compromise your principles.

really?

when these folks get back to Massachusetts, they will be in with the Republican establishment.

The GOP machine is massive evil from the top-down not bottom-up, so I respectfully doubt the Ron Paul "supporters" who actually supported MCcain will get state GOP positions. If this does happen, please let us know! Until then, these "supporters" sold out.

Fair enough

Let's see what happens. I think they "played ball" so there will be some return. I may be wrong, and if I am, I'll be the FIRST one to admit it.

I donated to these traders!

never again. can we go to these people and personally ask for our money back? wow. I'm done donating. who can we trust? I want to know exactly WHO did this?

Stockholm Syndrome?

I cannot imagine the pressures and hostility directed at our delegates who did make it to the national convention. From what I've read here, some were threatened with expulsion, some were robbed, they were shadowed by creepy security guys, mikes were shut off, and some decided that they were making progress incorporating the Constitution into party considerations. From afar, I don't agree with voting for McCain but I am not in their shoes.

"Millionaire heiress Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army. After two months in captivity, she actively took part in a robbery they were orchestrating. Her unsuccessful legal defense was that she suffered from Stockholm syndrome and was coerced into aiding the SLA." http://en.wikipedia.org/w...

On the other hand, some of our delegates and Rally speaker Kokesh disrupted McCain's speech and were dragged out.

I favor

the delegates that spoke out and Kokesh they did what was right ,not become part of the problem. They acted, got carried out but I saw them on the videos, heard their voices.Their voices were our voices, our voices fell silent when the delegates chose to abandon Ron Paul and fall behind McCain and party unity.Unity doesn't mean doodly squat if you comprimise your principles.

An interesting analysis,

An interesting analysis, however I would remind everyone that when a polite young Nazi invites you to get on a train for a nice vacation, you should RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

If one is to be a victim, one should at least have the guts to be an unwilling victim.

I thought this Revolution

I thought this Revolution was about principals before party?
I'm feeling sick and betrayed. Excuse me while I go throw up.

Me Too

These delegates did a huge disservice to the Revolution in that their actions might make us doubt the loyalty of others in the cause. I believe that most of them will regret their actions when they realize what they have done. They had a golden moment to remain symbolically true to liberty, but they chose to help the forces of tyranny earn a propaganda victory instead.

But remember, the Campaign for Liberty has gathered 98,000 supporters.

You are not alone.

Let it be said, "Ron Paul, I've got your back. You can count on me."

After getting "neoconned"

After getting "neoconned" last night, I can see why they may have done it. RP had NO WAY to make a dent in the system, nor become the nominee. The Republicans want to beat Obama, and are looking for "team players" to rise up in the party. If they had not done that, all the work they HAD done for infiltrating the GOP would have led to nothing. It seems like a travesty to us, but we were not there. If they were a member of the "team" for their state, and if the state Chair told them to vote Mc and they did NOT, they could kiss their "position" in the party goodbye. It may have been a very good move, under the horrendous circumstances. You got to know they were ALL true RP supporters. It costs thousands of dollars and a lot of effort within the party to become a delegate. Even if we helped raise money, we did not raise enough for all their expenses. Please do not think of these people as traitors. They may have done what they did to win the war, not this battle.

Silly

That attitude seems silly and insincere to me.

I remember as a youngster watching national conventions where real voting was done, and there was more than one ballot. The idea was to register the true will of the primary voters on the first ballot. Eventually the support solidified around one candidate and the party united for the fall campaign.

This modern notion of "unity" on the first ballot refuses to reflect reality.
What harm would have been done if Ron Paul's 35 or so delegates had had their votes faithfully recorded, and Romney's and Huckabee's as well. At that point McCain would have already had a winning majority, and they could have introduced a motion to make it unanimous at that point.

Instead, the way they did it, it makes it look to the unobservant public like Ron Paul and the others had gotten no support at all. It is as though the entire campaign, and all the contributions and hard work had produced absolutely no result. That is what the neocon McCainites wanted to accomplish, and they got what they wanted.

They got their "unanimous" vote, but it left a very bad taste in the mouths of many of us, and may have done more to destroy unanimity than an honest approach to voting would have done.

well they had to count them

that way. Can't let the public think the RP movement actually got any support it might grow. Its not enough to win you must crush dissent. You must make it invisible. It actually isn't that they voted for John McCain. It's the fact that as each of them did vote for him every supporter and that supporters hard work started getting invisable and the McCain folks got brighter and started glowing. So not only do I have to set and suffer the knife in the back I got at my state convention from the enemy but now I have to walk around for 4 years with my friends knife in my back also. My 18 months of service as now been made as if I never done it. I lost my Job for this cause and they where afraid they might not give the people that stuck a knife in my back at the state convention a victory. My meetup learned this lesson at our county convention We gave these people 40 delegates cause they cried and at our state convention they surrounded us and made us invisable. Remember next time when they cry like a baby seal club them in the head a few more times make sure its dead. Something our side needs to remember is these people show no mercy we need to toughen up and give as good as we get. It would have been better if they all got thrown out of the convention at least then people would have known this movement actually accomplished something. Now to the common guy who is watching this at home it looks like the Ron Paul movement really was 12 guys in their moms basment. Think what that will do to our recruting over the next 4 years. "knock knock Would you like to join the revolution SLAM" yeah we will really grow now. People love to go around and have the doors slammed in their faces and laughed at. We will be lucky if we can ever be taken more serious than 12 guys in a basment. I mean our own people have painted us as such. The only way this helps us is if they do not know the names of our delegates. Then it gives you stealth but the question that remains unanswered is will any of them gain a power position by stealth? If we gain any power positions then it works but if not we shot ourself in the foot. No matter what it still does not stop the pain of all these knives in our back. I am thinking about the story one of you guys just wrote about the guy who told you about all these wars that America has been in that nobody knows about. Is this what they did to our delegates? Did they take them in a room and tell them all these stories about all these things going on that the public doesn't know about and make them feel like they were important because they now know something that seems top secret. Did they get Neocon'd Do they now feel part of the big secret that us little people could never handle. Are they now our new protectors. The new group that will give us security and prosperity. Be carful you might just become what you once hated. It happens every day. I don't know what to think anymore this is just getting to be to much to take thats all. The game of polotics is corrupt and the people who seek it are the ones who tend to be the most easely corrupted. Maybe the answer is not inside the game.

how would

"Dr No" have
voted in th same position?
Live Free or Diebold

Jinc

You got that right.

good point!

No Excuses

This above all; to thine own self be true:
And it must follow, as the Night the Day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

These delegates are traitors. I have nothing but contempt for them. I'm still voting for Ron Paul, after all. It would be nice if the delegates we elected would do the same. The way it turned out, it's like the Ron Paul money bombs were just McCain/GOP money bombs in disguise.

Sickening.

Horsewhipping

...is too good for these people.

Seriously.

(No actual horses were harmed in the posting of this message.)

Traitors and Stupid!

These traitors from Massachusetts are not fully to be blamed, you see, we have many, many, nay, MANY very STUPID people who reside here in this state and the facts are that they keep electing the same people over and over and over again. My guess is these traitors were sent by the Kennedy, Kerry, and Stephen Lynch delegation!
All traitors to the people of the USA.
Those who took their oath of office and swore before the people and Almighty God to uphold and defend the constitution of the united states of America and then thumb their noses at everyone.

May God give them their just reward

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Just my thoughts on this....

Is it possible that they weren't even real Paul supporters to begin with? Think about it for a moment. All of us have been planning a stealth surprise with Ron Paul delegates. I think it's highly likely that in many cases, once that plan was figured out by the party, they infiltrated the Paul camp and put fake supporters in there, ones who would vote for him in the primary, ones who would act like they really supported him at the conventions, etc.

Did anyone really think they were going to let us just march into town and take over the convention? The delegate process is there so that the people can toss out a bad candidate and nominate someone who is worth it. But it's rigged from the beginning now days. McCain was the chosen one, and they were not going to let opinion be voiced otherwise.

So they do eveything they can to shut down our delegate revolt and any dissenting views. Dissent = treason, didn't you know?

Country First! Service!......... kind of makes me think a draft is possible. And if you don't want to fight in the military for empire, then you don't belong in this country. That's what I get from that message.

It reminds me of the bumper sticker that says something along the lines of "sacrifice for the state" ~ The State

Way to go.

JM
Now we not only have to fight the corrupt political system, we have to fight our own delegates. There must be some kind of mind control system taking hold of our delegates. Man, I find this hard to grasp. I've surely died and gone to hell.................

Double speak

It sounds like 1984 double speak. We abandoned our principles but showed them they can't take us for granted. They even were able to brainwash the delegates, maybe our delegates should have had psyhic warfare training before they went to the Convention to represent America and the Ron Paul platform.

it is clear

THE WAVE!!!!!!!!!!! needs to go out with THE TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!
