Cost of 9/11 memorial and museum at Ground Zero expected to hit $1 billion

The cost of the Sept. 11 memorial and museum at Ground Zero is expected to soar past $1 billion, the Daily News has learned.

That's a hefty 65% increase over the $610 million price tag that planners have repeatedly cited for the last two years.

Budget-busting delays on other interrelated projects at the 16-acre site have jacked up the cost of the National Sept. 11th Memorial & Museum and yanked back the timetable for completion, insiders say.

The bottom line: The museum may not open until 2013 or 2014, and it will take a miracle to fully open the memorial plaza that will honor nearly 3,000 innocents slaughtered at the World Trade Center in time for the 10th anniversary in 2011.

Several survivors of the terror attack and relatives of the dead are starting to wonder if they'll even be around for the ribbon cuttings.

To illustrate where our priorities are as a society, the proposed 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero is expected to cost more than $1 Billion, while only approximately $16 Million was spent on the official government exposition of the events of 9/11, the 9/11 Commission, which did not even attempt to answer 70% of the questions of the 9/11 Commission Family Steering Committee. 9/11 first responders and volunteers who put themselves in harm's way to help their countrymen in the aftermath of 9/11 continue to lose their lives because of illnesses and diseases contracted by breathing the toxic air at Ground Zero in the aftermath of 9/11 that then-EPA director Christine Todd Whitman said was "safe to breathe" on 9/13/2001. Yet taxpayer dollars have been appropriated for this memorial instead of helping the heroes of 9/11 who continue to suffer?

As that tyrant Lincoln once said, "Any Nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure."

No forensically identifiable remains were recovered for 1,151 victims of the crimes perpetrated at the World Trade Center on 9/11 leaving the families of the victims with nothing to inter and there is some consensus that a monument costing One Billion Dollars must be built, some years into the future at that, to properly memorialize those peaceful and innocent people who were murdered on 9/11?

Yeah, but

will all the new structures be able to fall into their own footprints?
