*Bob Barr News Conference*
Barr opened with a statement on how he'd gotten to this point, and why he'd not attended the Paul event.
- In December 2007, he authored the LP's statement of intent to nominate Ron Paul for president if he lost the GOP nomination. Paul turned it down.
- Yesterday Barr sent Paul a letter (which I have a copy of, and I'll scan in a bit) asking Paul to run as Barr's vice presidential nominee. Wayne Allyn Root agreed to step aside if Paul wanted the job. Paul turned this down.
- Barr signed onto the statement of principles that Nader, McKinney and Baldwin signed, and stands by it. But he declined the offer to appear this morning.
"This is no reflection, certainly, on the tremendous and positive leadership that Ron Paul has provided to the liberty movement over the years. He recognized, for example, the strength of that movement, which has to come from the outside, back in 1987," when he left the GOP. What Barr is offering voters is...
bold, focused, specific leadership. That is not the amorphous kind that says "any of the above" or "none of the above." That's not leadershp. What is leadership is what I, and our campaign, and the LP are doing. Putting before the American people not a wish list, not a menu of things you can pick and choose, not a group of candidates, but a candidate for president, Bob Barr, who stands for very specific programs and policies and direction for this country.
Some of Paul's supporters, sitting in the back of the room, snickered at this. Barr pushed on. "The primaries are over" and the only measure of libertarian success will be how many votes the LP gets.
The print press asked for more details on Barr's offer to Paul and details on what Barr supported from the message of that earlier event. Kokesh raised his hand and started talking; Barr campaign chairman Russ Verney asked him to identify his media organization. "I'm an independent blogger," Kokesh said. Verney and Kokesh talked over each other for about 30 seconds, Verney trying to move on, Kokesh explaining what had made him so angry. "Leadership is not just about knowing when to lead, but knowing when to follow," Kokesh said. "You failed that test today and I retract my endorsement of you."
There were more harsh questions (is Barr a Republican agent trying to destroy the LP?) but nothing quite that harsh. The conference emptied out and Barr's staff kept on message: All respect to Ron Paul, but "support one of these nice candidates" is not a libertarian campaign. "Dr. Paul is allowing the Ron Paul Revolution to wither," said Barr aide Shane Cory.

This is a old thread
lets move on. :)
There can be only one.
It's to bad Mr. Barr didn't show at the press conference. He could have showed who he is. If he had he would have received a lot of support. I hope it doesn't deter too many who like his message. We need a relief from the Republicans and Democrats. I hope we can find one man to get behind. I hope all the presidential candidates can get together to support one of them. This problem is bigger than anyone mans' ego.
Bob Barr and the Libertarian
Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party can go to Hell! They have been sellouts for a long time now but this year takes the cake with the neocon warmongering drug warrior Barr on the ticket. I looked into this asshole for about 2 minutes before it became clear that this guy is about as libertarian as Hillary Clinton.
Bob Barr is an unprincipled pig and needs to be humiliated in this election even further than he's already humiliated himself with his asinine commentary on Glenn Beck's show today.
If you vote for Barr you might as well burn Ron Paul in effigy. Enough said!
Barr shoulda known...
that Paul wouldn't accept the VP slot. Ron Paul has said all along that he had no interest in a third party candidacy. Been there, done that. And isn't his consistency one of the reasons we all respect Ron Paul? Barr, being a politician and not a statesman, doesn't get this.
I think he's an idiot. Barr would have gotten lots more mileage out of the whole deal if he'd shown up and asked RP in public to be his veep. RP still would have declined, maybe been a little embarrassed and/or p.o.'ed to be blind-sided like that, but many in the RP army would have appreciated the gesture and liked Barr for it. Instead, he pulls this stunt. The man's an idiot.
I was leaning toward a Baldwin vote, though I'm uncomfortable with the overt religiosity of the CP. I didn't really trust Barr because of his record in office, and I don't quite buy his conversion. He could have earned my vote though, but now it's no way, no how, no Bob Barr.
In Spite of Baldwin's faith
I'll still probably vote for him. And recommend that most others dothe same. To wit:
Just my idea of a coordinated optimal impact.
If you live in Oklahoma, you have no choice. Write-in Ron Paul.
If you live in Montana or Louisiana, rejoice! You get to vote for Ron Paul!
If you live in New Hampshire, please vote for George Phillies (the other Libertarian).
If you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, or West Virginia, vote for Chuck Baldwin.
If you live in Arizona, California, The Dakotas, The District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin, or Wyoming, you have my condolences. You’ll need to vote for Cynthia McKinney.
If you live in Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Texas, you have my deepest condolences. You’re stuck with Ralph Nader. Sorry.
If you can’t stomach my recommendations, then, if your State permits, I guess you should write in Ron Paul.
This decision is rather painful for me, as it will be the first Presidential election for me (since 1976) in which I will not be voting for the Libertarian. It looks as though the Barr Campaign has burned that bridge, and it likely won’t be rebuilt until at least 2010.
Good post!
Why don't you start your own thread? Or do you have already. It should be put frontpage.
Dr. Paul cured my apathy
its a good post
but Nader should be given a better sentiment here for Christ Sake!

When a bear attack...
was coming, Barr jumped up a tree and left Dr. Paul to fend for himself.
Then after fighting off the bear and lying there bloodied and beaten, Barr yelled down from the tree "Hey, do you want to be my Vice Presdient?"
WHAT???
Pawnstorm
Below the Barr
Bob Barr is a joke. How dare he. Then he had the gall to ask Paul to be running mate. Barr, you're a neocon and looking out for yourself. Disgusting
We need to build political strength and political will.
Never trusted him and
I will not vote for someone like him. The Good Doctor has integrity, class and dignity none of which I see in Mr. Barr. And for the record Mr. Shane Cory, the rEVOLution has just begun!
"For with God Nothing shall be impossible"
At the Bobber news conference
"The Bobber marionette did a fine dance as his Neocon puppetmasters skillfully worked his strings, but the ventriloquism was poorly done, and rather obvious as the voice of Dick Cheney."
I got taken for a ride for two weeks
supporting this guy.
feel sick~good I only posted 2 pro Barr threads in those two weeks.

youre in good company
for awhile there it seemed that IF Ron Paul were to support a candidate itd either be barr or Baldwin- barr seemed the logical choice in terms of more popularity/name recognition.
Live Free or Diebold
(!)
"What Barr is offering voters is...
bold, focused, specific leadership"
...yeah
Looser
BoB Barr is nothing special.. So by dissing Paul he tried to draw a spotlight to himself. End of story.
Live Free or Die.
Send in the clean up crew...
the damage is done, and so is Bobby BarrSinister.
Isn't it interesting that
Isn't it interesting that Bob Barr offered for his VP to step down...
and Chuck Baldwin offered to step down himself? Baldwin stated that a few months ago...
So I wonder, who really and truly supports RP and wants him to be the leader of the free world?
Stop being stupid!
Ron Paul was given the chance to run as the libertarian candidate he refused....I don't want this movement to die...but ....unless there are ALOT of votes for liberty in November, that's exactly what it is going to do....Paul should run with Barr and shake up the election!Stop your bellowing about him!...He is the best and most viable candidate at this time!
Ron Paul can't and won't
It could cost him his ability to grill Ben Bernanke under oath, and that bird is "in the hand." Trade that for a chance to be Barr's VP on a (probable) losing ticket?
Ron Paul is too smart for that.
Now, accept that Barr is a neocon tool, and you will start making better decisions.
in many states
it is the law that only VP name can be changed on the ballot.
Get the whole picture.

Ron Paul Supporter Since 1997
“We have allowed our nation to be over taxed and over regulated and overrun by bureaucrats, the founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with” Ron Paul
Sweet!!
Sweet!!
Realistically,
The Barr camp must feel they have an advantage over the other 3rd party candidates and are just posturing to maintain their percieved lead.
But, Ron Paul has indicated to us that debate access is crucial. We should do every thing we can to get debates between the front runners and the 4 3rd party candidates, including Barr.
Each candidate will win or lose by their own words in an honest debate.
But each of the 3rd party candidates are armed with 4 agreed upon issues that are really what the American people care about.
The 3rd party candidates would knock the socks off of McCain and Obama.
I emailed the press guy Andrew Davis
His reply after I stated that Brr not attending the forum was a snub move on his part.
"Bob invited Paul to be his VP. I hardly call that a snub."

That's really uncalled for Johnu78
I met Mr. Barr in the Target Center before the Rally for the Republic. To me he seems like a genuine good guy. He, like all of us, has woken up to the deception and coersion of the neocon mainstream parties and is trying to spread the message of freedom. I will probably vote for him in the general election.
does anyone have any video of the Bob Barr conference?

Its a testament to the importance
That no video is up anywhere. Bombsalot Barr done screwed up real good.
TRUE RP Supporters
Would want RP on a ticket in any way possible and I applaud Barr for asking and the VP for offering to step aside if Paul would take it. PLEASE DR. PAUL reconsider. I WANT TO VOTE FOR YOU THIS NOVEMBER.
It's high time to REGROUP for what we're all fighting for!!!
As of right now, the BEST CHANCE currently for RP to be voted UP THERE with what we BELIEVE IN AND FIGHTING FOR (since at this point of the election, a VP change on any party would be doable) would be with Barr.
After what had transpired at the NPC earlier today..our efforts to vote Dr. Paul to the WH at a...DEAD END??!!!
I wish Dr. Paul would take it.
If he is in agreement with Barr and thinks he is a good guy, I wish like everything he would take it. If he does not think he could be his vp for some reason, then ok, but I would like to know what that is so I won't accidently vote for him.
I want RP on a ticket too, but preferably not with Barr
I'd prefer McKinney, but Nader has access to 45 states already...at this stage in the election, he seems the wisest choice for RP to be the VP for.
The Primary Source
Here's the link to the actual letter Bob Barr sent to Dr. Paul:
http://www.bobbarr2008.co...
While I'm not entirely on the Barr bandwagon, I've come across plenty of would-be Paul supporters who said if he were on any ticket, that he would receive their vote. I'm looking at this year's election as a means of showing my displeasure with the Republican Party and will begin pushing for Paul/Ventura 2012!!

Thanks for posting this.
Now I am sad.
Barr Not Bad
In most of the states once a party receives acceptance to be on the ballot the party may not change the nominee for president without losing its place on the ballot. However, a party may change its vice president nominee and stay on the ballot. If Paul had wanted the Presidential nomination he could have had it months ago but he did not want it. This was an attempt to still get Paul involved. I wish he would take it. He is not going to be able to run in any other way. Time is to short and in most cases has ran out for him to get on ballots in most states. This would have been a great option and if Paul really wanted to Unify the 3rd parties "HE SHOULD TAKE IT!" We need to let the Republican and Democratic Parties know there is a 3rd party that can compete with them. Then and only then will they begin to listen and hear the Americans People Voice. Right now they don't worry because they know that 1wing of the Buzzard is going to get the Presidency. It does not matter to them if it is the Right or Left wing of the Buzzard. Regardless, both wings are attached to the same bird and the bird will continue to feed on the American people as long as we let it. It's time to bring the American Eagle back into the picture and run that Buzzard off for once and all.
Agreed
Barr pushed hard for Ron Paul as the 2008 Libertarian nominee. He obviously supported the hell out of Ron Paul, so it would be a nice gesture to support Barr in return. And it's true that if the independents get high numbers this time around it could set something up for elections two or four years out.
Barr Barr
Barr is a joke for being so partisan. This is not about Libertarianism per se. This is about The Third Way and Ron Paul is the father of this Third Way, which is for Freedom, Peace and Justice.
I was going to vote for Barr, but not now
I went to the Ron Paul, Cynthia Mckinney, Chuck Baldwin, Ralph Nader and........ Press Conference The first words out of my mouth after the Conference is where is Bob Barr? to one of the LP guys there, Shame on him for not being there. I then went to the Bob Barr Conference at noon. What an arrogant little prig this guy is, and what an insane thing for him to do. Paul and the others were showing the press how rigged the system is, and that all the people on the podium agreed on the big issues that the major candidates are opposed to. Some of those issues being the Federal Reserve, Corporate Fascism, Illegal executive powers, Closed Debates, rigged election procedures, and the disregard and destruction of the Constitution.
According to Barr at his conference, he didn't want to dilute his support by appearing on the podium with the others, but that wasn't the point! The point was that there are many issues that unite us and that if asked, the majority of Americans support too, that are completely ignored by the two party candidates or actively opposed by them and that these issues should be heard by the American people and placed before them. What a great message for all of them to send! But Bumbling Bob had to torpedo it.
One reporter was incredulous at Barr and asked if he was a Republican operative out to destroy the LP. The guy might be right! By doing what he did, Barr hurt Liberty and the cause for his own misguided purposes. No way I can vote for this guy. He's more arrogant than George Bush.
No Kidding
Barr should have DEFINITELY been there.
It was disrespectful to Dr. Paul who was trying to get these other parties into the debates.
Unbelievable that he left Dr. Paul to fight alone.
Pawnstorm
sounds like Barr is playing Politics
and that's exactly what we don't want. I'm impressed by all three and would vote for any of the other three candidates. This is a little disappointing to me, but I'm still excited about what happen today despite this.
ummm....sorry but I am not united with any socialists
You may be correct that Barr should have gone, but don't associate everyone in the movement with McKinney or Nader - they are socialists.
Bedr1!
Long time no see old pal.
They Might be Socialists but,
They might be Socialists, but they were playing on our side today. Nader said to protect the Constitution first, not the flag.
Bed1 I agree with you
we are not socialist and should not vote for it but I will tell you you better start thinking about jumping off that band wagon over there. I've been going over whats happened this morning. The Republican party should be sending us money. This is the party that was going to suck votes away from the Rep party. After today thats a sininking ship. move on my brother to a better position that one is dead. You can say the Ron Paul people can be sacrificed because they don't donate money but you know yourself they do not need money to get things done. We raised alot of money because it was important to the other side not because it was important to our grass roots movement. I understand you like to move and take up positions where liberty message can get the most bang for its buck but I do not see liberty in the LP party. I see more of the same. What a ride we have been on huh Bedr1. love ya bro.
True Believer here is the problem
Most of the people in the Ron Paul movement just got here, they are kids and have no clue. I have been doing the Third Party, Non Establishment Candidates for a long time - its not new.
Most of the people ranting and raving were never Barr supporters, and never were going to be. Its just a way for them to VOTE CHUCK, but I am glad that Barr did not kiss ass for votes. Those other candidates are desperate, are not going anywhere and they know it and they were fishing for votes and Ron Paul was the bait. From what I can tell at the Rally for the Republic when Barr was there they didn't even know who he was, so Barr is not getting his votes from these people. He is getting his votes from disgruntled conservatives, some independents and party Libertarians.
I will guarantee you in the next poll with everyone saying they will vote for Chuck Baldwin he will still not register 1%
Now as for Barr, I think it was in bad taste for him not to show up without telling anyone, if thats true. But I see no reason not to vote for him, as I agree with his press release and think the 4 party unity thing is a complete waste of time and that Dr. Paul needs to get out of the McCain Party. But Dr. Paul knows there is absolutely no chance in a third party going anywhere in his lifetime, so for now its the party of McCain for him.
But I am waiting for Ron Paul's response to Barr's offer - its all over the news, just seen it on Fox, MSNBC it would be huge.
You do realize Ron Paul was not saying
You should vote for socialism. They agreed on 4 major points. Thats good to point out that Ron Paul can bring people together on a set of issues without selling out his core beliefs. That is huge why would Bob Barr not wish to show the same strength?
From what I understand,
Barr agreed to this too. He just didn't attend the press conference.
So it's not a big deal at all.
