Celebrate Constitution Day Sept. 17th - NOW With More Links!
This is probably preaching to the choir (!) but you may want to spread the word to family and friends that September 17th is Constitution Day. Often this is observed as a week-long acknowledgment, beginning on the 17th of September.
Now's a good time to stock up on those pocket Constitutions to pass out, read the Constitution aloud to friends and family, and point people to relevant websites, such as the following:
- ConstitutionCenter.org
- National Constitution Center's Constitution Day page
- The Constitution Society
- Learn About Liberty
- NEH's Constitution Day page
- Education World's Constitution Day Lesson Plans (good for homeschoolers, or anyone who wants to do lessons about Constitution Day)
- The Constitution for Kids (Kindergarden through 12th grade)
- U.S. Constitution.net
- The Preamble, broken down and explained
- Constitution Facts - take the quiz: what's your Constitution I.Q.?

Here's an idea: challenge people -- yourself included! -- to take the Boy Scout Merit Badge challenge ("even a kid can do it!"). In order to earn the "Citizenship in the Nation" merit badge, Scouts have a number of tasks to complete. Here are the requirements to earn this badge. In order to complete Step 4, it is required to read and understand the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the rest of the Amendments. Here is the worksheet to fill out when completing the requirements. If you're not an official Boy Scout, you can't earn the actual badge, but once you have completed all the tasks, you can certainly reward yourself by looking at the lovely Merit Badge and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. :)
Here's one source to order a FREE pocket Constitution which contains the full text of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Articles of Confederation, and much more! All you pay is shipping; additional copies are available at low costs. Plenty of more resources for Pocket Constitutions can be found in this thread!
And YES, by all means watch Michael Badnarik's online Constitution Class!
However you choose to recognize this day, it's a good opportunity to remind people that maybe, just maybe, we should think of our Constitution more than only one day a year.
What other suggestions do you have for spreading the message of liberty for Constitution Day?

Events affecting the Constitution
Thanks for that link! It sure provides some insight as to how the Constitution has been and continues to be impacted by events...and vice versa. I really like the point about nullification. There are many issues today that could be settled immediately just based upon that one concept.
Wow, this thread kicks ass!
So nice to have a break from apocalyptic pronouncements of financial doom and from those who feel the way to move forward in this discussion forum is to call people morons.
Love the free pocket constitutions! Come Halloween, I'll be passing that shit out to trick-or-treaters, that way I know they'll be read! I'll tape some Mike and Ike's and Milk Dud's inside for a greater incentive.
We'll see how many I can unload in the meantime...
For liberty!! *gong*
Let's celebrate!!!
In the spirit of bigmikedude's great post, I am injecting this thread back into the sidebar, which has become pretty filled up with depressing news.
Remember to spend some time today focusing on something GREAT about our country. Learn more about the document for which we are working so hard to restore; then spread your knowledge with others.
We'll be celebrating Constitution day...

What we all need to do is call our kids out of school in remembe
My heart belongs to Ron Paul, but for now my ass belongs to Chuck Baldwin, www.baldwin08.com
rance of The Constitution and to show them how important it is. From now on my son gets Constitution Day off from school, it is now a Federal holiday in my book.
I'm with you, tog
GMTA, but instead of a day off from school, mine would have a full school day devoted to Constitutional studies. Oh wait; they will. :) It's good to be the Teacher.
Why we have a national holiday celebrating our Independence from England, but : crickets : when it comes to celebrating the most stunning document establishing governance in the history of the world, I have never understood.
No disrespect to the 4th of July, but Constitution Day should dwarf Independence Day in scope and regard.
Wow - Great Links
got my Chuck Baldwin for President 08 Constitution Party yard sign
in the mail today ....looking good on front yard....
also got 2 bumper stickers CHUCK the 2 party system Vote BALDWIN 08
got em on the cars .... going to celebrate Constitution Day!
I'm so proud
Today, my son recited (with understanding, not by rote memorization) the full text of the 4th Amendment. He now has the 1st through 4th Amendments under his belt, and is moving on to the 5th.
If an 8-year-old can do this, there's no excuse for us grown-ups to be ignorant.
While you're celebrating Constitution Day, be sure to stop over at Michael's thread and see how you can take action to help resurrect the full force of the Constitution.
If you do nothing else, at least ask people throughout the day one simple question: what is the purpose of the Constitution? If they respond that it's a set of rules for the people to follow, you be sure to set 'em straight. :)
Yea for your son. Nice job mothering, fan!
Will he be running for pres in 2025?

Thanks. It's his own synapses, though. :)
If it weren't for that pesky 35-year-old rule, I think he'd have been running this year. But only after RP bowed out.
He also has the preamble memorized and fully understood (his 6-yr-old sister, too). The other night, my son was explaining to some other boys in his grade about the three branches of government and why they're supposed to be separated out. He just expected these boys already knew about this stuff, and was a little surprised that they didn't. "Doesn't everybody know about this, Mom?"
I think I'll start charging for his lectures at local high schools.
what, don't you mean celebrate the anniversary of its death?
that might get more attention -- the fact that we still have a constitution & it has been ignored & left for dead for far too long.
instead of a birthday celebration, how about it's f-ing about time for a resurrection.
Post UPDATED with LOTS more links!!
This thread could now be referred to as The Land of Link-in', as even more pointers to great places have been added. More educational sites, references for getting pocket (or poster!) Constitutions, and that all-important link to Michael Badnarik's excellent online Constitution class.
Tomorrow kicks off Constitution Week! Introduce friends, family, neighbors and total strangers to this VERY important day!
On a side note, I sent the info in the OP to our Cub Scout group, and at last night's Den meeting, the leader actually started talking to the kids about Constitution Day and the Constitution itself, and had this whole discussion with the kids...although the topic had not orginally been planned as part of yesterday's meeting agenda. As a result, it was recognized that most of the boys (ahem, not my son) were unfamiliar with and didn't seem to care much about this "constitution thing." Consequently, it's being added to the list of items the Scouts will be delving deeper into. I suspect the surprised parents at the meeting had expected that their kids had learned about this document in their schools (ha! ha! ha!!) So go for it -- you never know who will run with the information you share, now how many folks those people will go on to touch with the joy and pride of our Constitution!
Signed,
Your Constitution Day Cheerleader
Constitution Day to you all
Ya know, if our government had of obeyed the constitution we would not be in the mess we are in today. Plain & simple!!!
Spread the word today to as many people as you can.
You said it (and quite well)
The whole mess we are in could easily been avoided if we had listened to the Founding Father's wisdom!

Thank you.... I learned it from the Wise Doctor hehehehe
I already passed out a stack of pocket constitutions. And F2F DVD's. This is just too funny not to share. I saw a group of 5 or 6 guys in their late teens, early 20's & pulled up beside them and said''' Hey I think you guys need to see this stuff! I asked if they had heard of this scam, how the income tax & fed reserve was not even constitutional & they bellied right up to my car for the info.
One guy asked what the FDIC thing was on his paycheck that gets taken out. Young people are so much quicker to question authority than my generation (myself not included).
Anyway.... I'm sure it will cause a stir in this rural/democratic area as 2 of the guys said they'd watch the dvd that night.
Ok... to the funny part..... one of those guys turned out to be the son of the chairman of the board of commissioners I will be speaking to tomorrow night as I push to make constitution day acknowledged here.
Gets even funnier... the commisioner also holds 2 other offices in this town (can we say conflict of interest) and I will be speaking on the fed reserve as an example of how, if our govt was obeying the constitution we would not be in this financial tsunami.
I feel like I'm already the new girl in town who is a bit off lol
Any prayers or good wishes tomorrow Wed nite is appreciated. But you gotta love the irony of how these things fall into place when you are on the battlefield.
Awesome story
You go git 'em, New Girl! Thanks for sharing with us!
I'll be praying. Loved your story.
The hand of Providence is guiding us through choices that we make...

Sunday viewing: share w/family, friends
It's Sunday. Traditionally a day when folks relax with friends and family.
Why not get a jump on the upcoming observance of Constitution Day (Week)? Casually mention that this is the week we observe Constitution Day, and ask friends a couple of questions about their knowledge of the Constitution -- just a couple, and keep it basic! You might, say, mention the FISA business, and ask your friends if they know which part of the Constitution that violates, for example.
Then, invite your friends and family to watch some installments of Michael Badnarik's Constitution Class. No, I don't think you'll get through all seven hours of it today (!), but, even 30-60 minutes of it would certainly be a start.
You do know, don't you, that you can hook up your computer to your television, so everyone can sit comfortably on the couch to watch these YouTubes on the TV? All it takes is an inexpensive cable from Radio Shack or some such. Just be sure to play the vids in full-screen mode!
So set up your computer/TV hook up, pop some popcorn, make that lemonade, fluff up the sofa cushions, and introduce your friends and family to the document which is central to our Republic.

Is Thanksgiving Constitutional???
What does Thanksgiving & the Constitution have in common?
Apparantly everything .... I learned something new today!
A proclamation by President George Washington and a congressional resolution established the first national Thanksgiving Day on November 26, 1789. The reason for the holiday was to give “thanks” for the new Constitution.

What's This?
Hmmmm. . . . I wasn't aware of this "Constitution" you speak of. It doesn't sound too bad. Maybe we should look into it -- do you think the public will buy it? I'm not sure the government would give up the power it now has if we were to adopt this "constitution."
It might simply be "pie in the sky."
