Arrogant, Small Tyrants

Arrogant, Small Tyrants

Nancy Pelosi is STILL afraid of US!

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
Thomas Jefferson

Has it occurred to anyone else that almost 100% of our elected officials have turned into tyrants? From George Bush, Senator Harry Reid (D-Nv) to Nancy Pelosi and their Congressional minions, they are ignoring the will of the people and are, in fact, collaborating with the banksters to undermine the safety, prosperity and lives of We the People. Many economists are predicting a long and terrible depression and Congress's bankster bailout has only hastened and worsened the crisis.

Many of our supporters called Pelosi's office yesterday to demand that she come off of her arrogant perch and descend to the street level here in San Francisco to debate Cindy Sheehan and the other two challengers to her seat. Every one who called reported getting the notorious Pelosi run around that she made infamous by her "off the table" politics.

We know that Pelosi and her ilk care more about their bank accounts and political party affiliation than they do about this country and humanity but we will continue to press on and demand that she defend her indefensible positions and explain her inexplicable policies.

• Why did she abdicate her power of the purse string to fund George's wars of aggression?
• Why did she allow the ban on offshore drilling to expire?
• Why did she grant immunity to the administration and telecom companies for warrantless wiretapping?
• Why is she trying to gentrify the last bastion of diversity in San Francisco, Bayview/Hunter's Point?
• Why does she support privatization of national parks and energy?
• Why did she support BushCo's policy of torture?
• Why did she take the important Constitutional remedy of impeachment "off the table?"
• Why did she allow the Homegrown Terrorism Act to pass Congress and why did she not stop George's tyrannical Presidential Directive 51?
• Why did she give Goldman-Sachs' former CEO (Treasurey Secretary, Henry Paulson) 700 billion dollars to bail out the unregulated Wall Street financial pirates?

The other evening when CFC supporters were being verbally attacked by her staffers, Pelosi's Chief of Staff yelled out, at one point, "Did you all vote for George Bush?" Is irony dead?

Cindy Sheehan has been standing up to the "man" since her son was murdered by the Bush regime in April 2004. Nancy Pelosi has been standing up for the "man" since she became Speaker of the House. She has not denied George Bush one thing and CFC has a library of pictures of Pelosi fawning over George Bush.

We need to overthrow this government and we need to start here in California's 8th district by overthrowing George Bush's best friend, Nancy Pelosi.

Support Cindy Sheehan.

Pelosi is Afraid of US!

We are seeing several clear indications that Nancy Pelosi is feeling the heat of our campaign.

Two weeks ago, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club invited Cindy for Congress to their meeting to vote on un-endorsing Nancy Pelosi and endorsing US. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor to have a vote on the two questions. The energy at the meeting was incredible and we felt that we won a victory for the people that night.

Last night, the vote was held at the Milk Club meeting. Nancy Pelosi sent a handful of staffers and her SF Chief of Staff. In what everyone said was an unprecedented move, she even wrote a letter to the club touting her dubious accomplishments. Her staffers acted like right-wing Republicans by shouting down our supporters (which numbered in the dozens) whenever one of them wanted to discuss the issues. To each one of our questions regarding Pelosi's support of torture, off-shore drilling, war, warrantless wire tapping, letting George Bush and Dick Cheney escape without being held accountable, and to the banker's 700 billion dollar welfare plan, her staff would yell: "You want McCain to win." Well, no we don't but we sure don't want Pelosi to win, either, and their bellicosity proved to US how they cannot defend their boss' awful record so they have to shout absurdities a la Bill O'Reilly.

The vote went against US, but we were able to at least get a hearing and we were able to take heart that their are many, many people in San Francisco who do care about democracy over faux-progressive Democrats. Our thanks go to the Harvey Milk Club for taking the courageous step of at least considering supporting US.

Another sign that Pelosi is afraid of US is her refusal to answer our campaign on a candidate's debate in California's 8th District. We have sent her office requests and have asked her Chief of Staff about it twice (face to face) and we can't even get an answer. They are trying to run out the clock on debating as Pelosi unconscionably and inconceivably ran out the clock on impeachment.

The third indicator of Pelosi's fear is that today she announced (from Denver) that she was going to bring Congress back to DC after the elections to work on a 150 billion dollar "stimulus" plan for US. This is a completely transparent political ploy to win back some of the votes that she and her colleagues lost when they bailed out the banksters for 700 billion dollars. That stunt has proven to have had horrible consequences already and her last stimulus plan also failed miserably. We can't allow these crumbs that the elite want to toss US deter US from voting out the corrupt elite in less than four weeks.

Cindy for Congress is demanding that Nancy Pelosi show respect for her constituents and the democratic process by agreeing to debate her challengers. Not only do we deserve to air our visions but she needs to answer to the people of the 8th for her questionable record.

Please call her office to encourage her to debate her opponents: 415.556.4862

Today, Cindy for Congress received a significant endorsement from the SF Bay Guardian. Please read it!

Please donate for our final push so we can get the People's Message out to the 8th District! This has been an incredible year. We have come so far and we need your help to cross the finish line!

Please Help CFC Bailout our Constitution

Constitutional scholar and author of the new book: Constitution in Peril, Attorney Bruce Fein, visited the office of Cindy Sheehan for Congress this past weekend.

Bruce has been a leading advocate in this country to protect our Founding Document by impeaching the current Executive Administration that has consistently undermined and violated the Constitution. Bruce Fein is a Republican, but he puts his country first over his party. In contrast, Nancy Pelosi puts her good buddy Bush above everything.

Bruce Fein and Cindy Sheehan are partnering to place an injunction on the un-Constitutional corporate welfare plan that has already proven to be a disaster. (Wall Street plummeted today and September saw the most unemployment claims in five years while one out of every 11 homes is in danger of foreclosure).

According to the Constitution of the USA, "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives…" - Article I, Section 1, Clause 1-So, besides bailing out criminals who increased their profits by predatory lending and creating revenue for their companies by unregulated trading of mortgage backed securities and Paulson's (Henry Paulson, Sec of Treasury) Monster: the derivative; what Congress did last week was un-Constitutional because the Bill to bailout failed on Monday; then passed the Senate on Wednesday; then (bass-ackwards) passed the House on Friday.

In this procedural nightmare, the House of Representatives was the injured party, but incredibly, a majority injured their own Body, but 171 voted "Nay" on the bailout.

Bruce Fein and Cindy Sheehan would like to file this injunction, but we need a plaintiff. Here is the list of Representatives who voted "Nay." Reps Marcy Kaptur (D-Oh); Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh) and Ron Paul (R-Tx) were the most outspoken patriots against the Bill.

Please help us get a plaintiff. Stepping forward to halt the bailout will take an incredible amount of integrity and courage, but we are hoping there will be at least one Congress Member with the requisite boldness to help save our Nation. Call your Rep, one of these Reps, or any others who voted "Nay" and were injured by Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic/Republican leadership who rammed this bill down their throats and ours!

Let Cindy know about your progress! We will be working on our end to find plaintiffs, too...but we need to exert a tremendous amount of united and non-partisan encouragement to file the injunction on behalf We the People.

Good luck to US. As Bruce wrote in a Letter to the Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle:

"Last Friday, she (Pelosi) gave away the exclusive power of the House to originate bills to raise revenues by championing enactment of the Senate initiated financial bailout bill. If there are better ways to reduce the House to vassalage, they do not readily come to mind."

ect: Even on her home turf in the liberal Bay Area, Pelosi score

The solution to this failed leadership of Nancy Pelosi, is over-throwing her in San Francisco.

It's not about being a bad "leader," it's about going against the wishes of her constituents, time and time again!

For Pelosi and her cronies, and against US, impeachment for the criminals George Bush and Dick Cheney was OFF HER TABLE; but war-funding, demolishing FISA and the 4th Amendment, torture and bailing out corporate pirates were ON HER TABLE.

$850,000,000,000.00 More Reasons to Vote for

Cindy Sheehan

Respond to the article below which was in the Chronicle On-line today, that never mentions Cindy Sheehan and her courageous and principled stand against Nancy Pelosi:

(Notice how she collaborates so obediently with the White House!)

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi...

Bailout blues: After a rough start to the week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosiapparently wasn't taking any chances that Friday's re-vote on the big Wall Street bailout would go south.

The $700 billion package came up short on its first vote Monday, with East Bay Reps.Barbara Lee and Pete Stark and North Bay Reps. Lynn Woolsey and Mike Thompson - Democrats all - joining the "no" forces.

Pelosi's phone lines and e-mail systems were jammed with thousands of calls and messages railing against the plan as well as the speaker's handling of the crisis.

The second time around, Pelosi was determined to have a Democratic cushion to sit on - and by Thursday night she had rounded up commitments from at least half the 235 House Democrats.

She had already phoned White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and told him she wouldn't bring the bailout to a vote unless she was certain that House Republicans - who voted 2-1 against the first bailout bill - were also on board. Bolten assured her they were.

And Pelosi soon got further assurances from House Republican leaders John Boehner and Roy Blunt that they would deliver as many as half their 199 members.

In the end, the Dems got 172 of their own, including Woolsey, Lee and Thompson - 32 more than the first time. The Republicans got 91 votes, a pickup of 26 from Monday. Add it all up, and it was 45 votes more than needed for passage.

Even before the final votes trickled in, President Bush phoned Pelosi on the House floor to congratulate her - something he had never had occasion to do before.

As for Pelosi, she took off late in the afternoon for Baltimore to attend her 50th anniversary high school reunion before flying back home to San Francisco for the weekend.

The rest of the story: Despite Friday's House vote on the bailout, Pelosi may have a distance to go to repair her image.

According to Mark DiCamillo of the California Field Poll, a statewide survey conducted this past summer found that 39 percent of voters disapproved of Pelosi and 30 percent approved, with the rest having no opinion.

Even on her home turf in the liberal Bay Area, Pelosi scored only a 32 percent approval, with 39 percent disapproving.

"It wasn't a great profile," DiCamillo said.

And the speech she gave Monday before the House shot down the first bailout bill - in which she laid blame for the mess with the Bush administration and Republican misrule - "just underlines the partisan image that voters have of her," DiCamillo said.

Fortunately for Pelosi, she's still a prolific fundraiser and therefore popular among her fellow Democrats in the House - so chances are there won't be a leadership run against her anytime soon.

"Small People" by Cindy Sheehan

Bailing Out Wall Street by Selling out Main Street
Cindy Sheehan

I am watching the debate on CSPAN over HR 1424 the "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act." As you can imagine there is empty rhetoric on both sides of the issue and there is bi-partisan support and opposition. If anything, it's a little more interesting than usual.
Rep Gary Miller (R-Ca), in a rare lapse of guarded "poli-speak" said that this bill would help the "Small People." Meaning, you and I. Fundamentally, that's what we are to the Congressional-Wall Street Cabal---the "Small People."

But, watching the proceedings, I am underwhelmed how these people are all of a sudden worried about we "Small People."

Congress, under the failed leadership of Nancy Pelosi, has passed laws to undermine our 4th Amendment rights to be safe and secure in our personal correspondence, phone calls and emails. Nancy Pelosi's Congress has given George Bush over 500,000,000,000.00 dollars to age his insane wars in Iraq and now they are going to give his Secretary of the Treasure, Henry Paulson, (Former CEO of Goldman-Sachs), 850,000,000,000. 00. That's a lot of zeros!

Congressperson after Congressperson have risen to say that we must hand over billions of "Small People" tax dollars so "Small People" will not "lose their jobs" or "lose their homes." We "Small People" have been losing our jobs and our homes at record paces only rivaled in the 1930's, and not one Bill was passed to help the "Small People" keep our jobs and homes. Tent cities are arising all over the country and Congress is going to bailout an industry that caused these cities and not only that, but use our money to help keep the CEO's in the style to which they have become accustomed.

Congressperson after Congressperson have also risen to say that their constituents, we "Small People" are overwhelmingly against the bailout of corporate piracy and pillaging, but he/she will vote for the Bill anyway, because he/she knows better what is good for us "Small People." We will eat our spinach and like it, because our REPRESENTATIVES have become mini-dictators in the shadow of the Fuhrers who are exercising fascistic control over every aspect of our lives.

I would like to remind everyone that at the beginning of the year, Congress passed another "emergency" bill that gave we "Small People" a few hundred dollars that did nothing to stimulate the economy. The solution to the crisis may cost billions of dollars, but not to hand to Wall Street. The bill failed on Monday, but Wall Street did not crash.

The solution is to put our economy to work for we "Small People." Federal Jobs programs that pay living wages to repair our crumbling infrastructure and rebuild the Gulf States so "Small People" can return to their homes.

Put a moratorium on foreclosures until the housing bubble can adjust to reasonable levels and restructure loans with fixed interest rates so "Small People" can pay their mortgages and the economy will "Gurgle Up" to the Congressional-Wall Street Cabal. We need to extend food stamp and unemployment benefits to pump money directly into the "Small People" economy.

Taxes need to be raised on the top one percent of wealthy people in this country that own more wealth than the bottom ninety percent combined. Taxes need to be reduced dramatically for the bottom 99%. A .25 transaction fee for the people who gamble on Wall Street must also be levied and put into the "Small People" economy for such programs as education and energy.

Regardless, if HR1424 passes or fails, every Congressperson, Democratic or Republican, who voted to sell out the "Small" Person needs to be retired and not sent back to Congress in January.

Reject fear-based politics. We "Small People" need courageous REPRESENTATIVES that will work on real solutions for us, because, as a matter of fact, we are not the "Small People," we are the sovereigns in this Republic and we need to reassert our sovereignty and show our employees in DC that we mean business.

Help me replace Nancy Pelosi in January, she has been the biggest Bush enabler of them all. She sent a very obsequious letter to George Bush this week promising him that Congress would pass a Bill for him. Not only did she not hold him accountable for the crimes he has committed while in office, she is giving him one last victory (at the expense of we "Small People") before he shamefully rides into the sunset while our Republic is burning and Nancy Pelosi plays her fiddle, obediently. George Bush is going to leave quite a mess, and this Congress has proven that they not only do not know how to clean up his messes, but they have collaborated in the orgy that made the mess.

Update: HR 1424 just passed and Congress applauded the marauding of our Republic. We "Small People" have been given a significant defeat.

Lets keep this short and simple

The best way to send a message is to kick the ass of the people in power and let them know the people of this country are hunting for them. It seems no one wanted the bail out to happen more then Nancy Pelosi. Not only that but she is the majority leader and Speaker of the House. What better way to show we the people matter then to kick her ass out of office!

Cindy for Congress a Progressive Response to Financial Crisis

Presently, everything is so cosmically urgent that we must put partisan politics behind us and humanity in the forefront.
Cindy Sheehan

There are four human rights that Cindy for Congress believes are basic to everyone, everywhere:

Peace: Not just the absence of war, but the absence of an economy that is always preparing for war. Not just the absence of violence, but the importance of solving problems without the use, or the threat of violence. Protection of the human right to not be "bombed to the stone ages" or not to be tortured for seeming barbaric sport, are rights that are of paramount importance.

Security: The importance of a person's right to not only be physically secure, but also secure from ones own government. Why is it "hacking" when a private person breaks into another's email, but "National Security" when our government does it? The only reasonable usage for a military is to defend our nation from attack and in case of natural disasters: not to be over-extended in immoral foreign wars of aggression to be killed or kill innocent people.

Prosperity: This is the right to education, health care, housing, healthy food, clean water and a job that pays living wages. Where our retirement is provided for and our retirement accounts can't be raped and pillaged by government or Wall Street.

Environmental sustainability: A world where fossil fuels are not needed and the capitalist polluters use their labor and profits to clean up the environment that they filthied. A world where clean and renewable sources of energy are the norm rather than the exception. A world where clean and green companies get the tax incentives and oil companies get the shaft that they so richly deserve.

Cindy for Congress believes that every individual in the world deserves these four fundamental necessities. We also believe that the parasite class is sucking the life out of our communities and families and the recent socio-economic collapse is the result of decades of a consolidation of wealth and power that is culminating in the bankrupting of our nation to benefit this parasite class and plunge working families even farther into a financial morass.

If we are to be intellectually honest with ourselves we know that the Democratic/Republican monopoly in our political milieu are co-equally responsible for the mess and that the solution is not to bail out the finance industry, but to build protections into our economy for we citizens that unknowingly or reluctantly support the rescues and profitization of the parasites with our labor and taxes.

Cindy for Congress calls for an indefinite moratorium on mortgage foreclosures and then reorganization or renegotiation of mortgages after home prices have adjusted to appropriate and reasonable levels with federal government support.

Cindy for Congress calls for an indefinite extension on food stamp and unemployment benefits as an economic and social safety net for the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters.

Cindy for Congress calls for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and the downsizing of our military industrial complex to save trillions of dollars per year.

Cindy for Congress calls for easing bankruptcy laws for consumers that also discourage usurious interest rates and predatory credit practices.

Cindy for Congress calls for state and federal jobs programs that put people to work rebuilding our rotting infrastructure and cleaning up our fragile environment.

Cindy for Congress calls for lobbyist money to be completely eliminated from Capitol Hill. Both major party presidential and Congressional candidates receive millions of dollars from financial conglomerates. Public financing of campaigns will level the playing field and force our legislators to be responsive to citizen constituencies. Nancy Pelosi owns 500,000 dollars of stock in AIG and AIG is receiving 85 billion dollars in corporate welfare thanks to our hard earned tax dollars. How is that not a distinct conflict of interest?

Cindy for Congress calls for the re-institution of the Glass-Steagall Act that was enacted during the Great Depression to prevent financial institutions from merging causing the crisis we are in today when they fail. Nancy Pelosi was a major supporter of repealing this vital act in 1999. Cindy for Congress calls for other regulatory measures that would prevent such a crisis in the future.

Cindy for Congress calls for the protection of Social Security and demands that our retirement safety net not be placed into the hands of bankers or Wall Street. The privatization of Social Security is a likely recipe for disaster.

Cindy for Congress demands that any company that gets "bailed-out" by our tax dollars (on a case by case basis and only after a citizen's review) have a strict repayment schedule and a major reduction in CEO salaries, bonuses and "Golden Hand Shakes." No blank checks or unregulated bailouts from the criminal Bush regime. A commission made up of experts, members of Labor and taxpayers must be instituted as an oversight committee on what is really a necessary restructuring of greedily destructive Capitalism.

Cindy for Congress demands that this reverse Robin Hood affect (robbing from the poor to give to the rich) end immediately.

Call your Congress person to urge a rejection of BushCo's "bail-out" plan that is good for crony-Capitalism but bad for everyone else.

Sound the Alarm: We are Being Robbed!

Cindy Sheehan for Congress demands that NOT ONE of our tax dollars be used to bail out Wall Street corporate pirates.

Cindy Sheehan for Congress demands a personal bottom-up bail out plan. The Bush crime family plan would cost each and every American (regardless of political party) over 2300.00 to help rescue an irresponsible and greedy industry that is failing because of unregulated speculation and predatory lending and trading practices.

This is our money, people, and if we don't speak up loudly to have our voices heard, we are participating in the biggest robbery in American history. We may as well be driving the get-away car. A crime of historic proportions is about to be perpetrated that you know will go unpunished by the complicit Democrats. The evidence is clear: this incestuous corporate/government co-operation throws it in our face once again that the establishment elite are in it together---against We the People. Nancy Pelosi (D-SF) is not the only Congress member that receives money from these industries or is invested in these same indstries, in a clear conflict of interest!

It is not time for a Bi-partisan solution since we know the two party monopoly is only there to protect itself and its cronies. NO, the time is now for a NON-partisan people's revolution to get to the root of the problem, not throw OUR money at it.

Cindy for Congress is calling for a demonstration tomorrow (9/25) in San Francisco at in front of the Federal Reserve Bank
Where: 101 Market St (Corner of Market and Spear)
When: 4pm to ?

Bring your past-due mortgage bills.
Bring your past-due rent or utility bills.
Bring your student loan and medical bills.
Bring your credit card bills with usurious interest rates and immoral fee structures.

Bring YOUR BILLS to send to Nancy Pelosi in DC so we can demand that WE THE PEOPLE be bailed out. No "stimulous" plans, but a bottom up, effective approach. (See: Cindy Sheehan for Congress and a Progressive Response to the Economic Crisis).

Bring your Monopoly or other play money that we can burn to symbolize our government's burning of its fiat currency in wholly inappropriate response to the economy and to show our opposition to the apparent onset of a hyper-inflation cycle.

Above all, bring your righteous and very appropriate anger.

What this government is planning now is the final collapse of our socio-economic system and WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO GET AWAY WITH IT this time!

This is the beginning of WE THE PEOPLE finally standing up and saying:
"Hell, no."
"Not with my money."
"Not with my child's future."

"NOT WITH MY CONSENT!"
Please call the campaign office for more info: 415-621-5027

Cindy for Congress is also developing an online campaign to send our personal bail out bills to Congress. Stay tuned for more info!

An Emergency Call to Action

An EMERGENCY Call to Action, Where Is Our Bailout?

Dear Aaron,

John McCain's decided YESTERDAY to "stop campaigning" to work on the emergency $700 BILLION bailout of Corporations. These Corporations fund companies like Bear Sterns, and AIG Insurance. My opponent Nancy Pelosi has HALF A MILLION in stock invested in AIG alone, which is included in this "bail out".

We're told every day how much EACH AMERICAN owes to these very same fat cats! If a new injection of money (700 billion) is printed out of thin air AGAIN, that will only further devalue our dollar. That will also raise the already ridiculous sum of money that each American owes!

Do you want your children and grandchildren to bear this burden? Shall the unborn be subject to pay these debts being created, while our government only profits from this kind of activity? Are you ANGRY yet?

WHERE IS OUR BAIL OUT?

Join Cindy Sheehan in our call to action!
When: 9/25 4pm
Where: The Federal Reserve 101 Market St @Speer and 1st
Bring Signs asking..Where is MY Bailout??
Bring your Bills...
Let's DEMAND Congress Pay OUR DEBT

Let's Keep this Action Rolling....

Hey Nancy.....BAIL ME OUT!!!!

Congress is working with the President to fund the largest corporate bail out in U.S. history. Every tax payer in this country must be wondering "Where is my bail out?" Don't we all have debt? Shouldn't our representatives be looking out for our interests instead of their corporate conspirators? Shouldn't Nancy Pelosi be standing up for us? Let's ask Nancy Pelosi for a bail out and send her our debts. Go here and and tell us about you and your estimated Debt then Cindy for Congress will send Nancy the bill.

Happy Labor Day from Cindy for Congress

The bookends of summer have become the Memorial Day weekend and the Labor Day weekend. To many Americans, the two "long" weekends are nothing more than that, long weekends: chances to travel (not much of that this summer, due to high energy prices); cook-out; catch up on chores, or just relax for an extra day off.

Memorial Day took on a sorrowful, yet profound, meaning to me when my son Casey (who was born on Memorial Day in 1979) was killed in BushCo's demented occupation of Iraq. I can no longer celebrate my son's birth, or think of it just as another day to sleep in.

Labor Day was made a Federal holiday in 1894 and is celebrated on the first Monday in September. It was proposed by the Central Labor Union in NYC as a "day off" for workers and was accompanied by speeches from politicians and prominent Labor activists on everything from the economy to social issues.

Labor Day is significant to Cindy for Congress because we recognize that workers courageously sacrificing for future workers is what elevated the working class to the middle class and is what elevated the working poor to a much higher standard of living. Cindy for Congress is appalled at the attempts to quash the rights of workers to organize and at unions that have leaders that seemingly negotiate for the "bosses" and not for the members.

Cindy for Congress has a labor platform that has been hailed by union activists from around the world and we would like to take this day to honor workers and to promise that we are together in the struggle for better jobs, a living wage, health and education benefits and the right to work in a safe and oppression-free work place, among other struggles. The right to work must be extended to our brothers and sisters from across the border who migrate to the US not only to survive, but also because of the "free" trade agreements that suppress wages and either send jobs to other coutnries or make them disappear all together.

Many people don't fully grasp our "People before Politics" slogan, but it is quite simple. People, ordinary people, are marginalized or ignored by the political spheres and processes in this nation where big business and special corporate interests are served before the needs of the citizenry. Cindy for Congress believes that the foremost thought in ever politician's mind should be: "How will this decision affect my constituents, and what can I do to make things better?" Cindy for Congress is fully committed to ordinary citizens that don't have the capital behind them to buy their representative's votes, legislation, or even attention.

Cindy for Congress supports Labor because we believe that organized Labor has made this world a far better place and the right to organize is a basic human right.

Cindy for Congress would also like to send solidarity to our friends and colleagues in New Orleans who have been working for the people of New Orleans and the Gulf States since Katrina. Our hearts and best wishes go to the people who have been struggling to put their lives back together for the past three years in hopes that Gustav won't be as devastating as the last natural disaster that turned into a man-made calamity.

It's Never to Late to Punish Criminals

Shall any man be above justice? Above all shall that man be above it, who can commit the most extensive injusfice? (sic)

George Mason (Founder) advocating for impeachment at the Constitutional Convention, Philadelphia, 1787

On July 23, 2007, 400 impeachment advocates lined the halls of Congress near John Conyers' (D-Mi) office advocating for impeachment. We delivered over one million signatures to him that had been collected by ImpeachBush.org and AfterDowningStreet.org. The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee not only did not concede to our demands, he had 50 of us arrested for escalating our demands into a sit-in.

July 23rd was also the date that we gave Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) as a deadline to put impeachment back, not on her "table," but in the Constitution. "Impeachment" is mentioned six times in our republic's founding document, but "God" or "Faith based initiatives" are not mentioned once.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh) has courageously introduced impeachment articles against the criminals, George Bush and Dick Cheney, and we have a short time now to show the executive branch (and the complicit members of the legislative branch) that they are not above the law and that no one can abuse our Constitution and/or commit our young people to die and kill innocents in wars for profit based on lies and greed.

George Bush and Dick Cheney are not only a stain on this republic, but they are a disease to humanity and we must demonstrate to the rest of this rapidly shrinking planet that Americans can also hold their leaders accountable. Accountability is imperative if we want true peace and healing.

Rep. Kucinich would like to deliver one millions signatures to Nancy Pelosi on September 10th: the day before the seventh anniversary of the day when BushCo began their demented war of terror in a tragic mis-response to the tragedy of 9-11. He has asked Cindy for Congress and our supporters for his help.

Please sign Kucinich's petition and pass it on to your friends, familiy and colleagues.

Please donate to Cindy for Congress so we can keep the pressure on and get our pro-peace and pro-humanity message out to the voters in California's 8th district.

It's not enough to name a sewage plant after George Bush.

Do it for the millions who have been killed, tortured, jailed, impoverished and displaced from the Gulf States to Iraq and all points in between.

Thanks, But No Thanks, On That Leadership To Nowhere.

By John Kusumi
Thanks, But No Thanks, On That Leadership To Nowhere.
Based on the Wall Street bailout, Cindy Sheehan gets an endorsement.

When did everything begin to go wrong in, or with, America? --We will all have different answers for that. There are older Americans who are adamant that the assassination of JFK (President Kennedy, who served 1961-1963) was the turning point when everything went south. As someone who is younger than that, I may be adamant that things went wrong with the presidency of Ronald Reagan (1981-1989). If you are one generation younger than me, you may believe that everything went wrong on September 11, 2001 (when the World Trade Center fell to that day's deadly attacks).

Mainstream news rarely says anything negative against the legacy of former presidents. As if they are all heroes. I may feel that George Washington was a good president, but that his successor -- John Adams, the second president -- was lousy. The second U.S. President put into place the PATRIOT Act of its day. (The Alien and Sedition Acts made political prisoners out of those who wrote and published in opposition. Similar to the PATRIOT Act, the Alien and Sedition Acts were overreaching measures, contrary to the spirit of America and the letter of the Constitution. Adams became a one-term president, and the next president repealed the Alien and Sedition Acts.)

But sooner or later, history brings out the truth. The attacks on Pearl Harbor? Roosevelt knew. He knew in advance that the Japanese were coming for that action, and he let it happen. Even though many Americans were killed by leaving Pearl Harbor undefended, it was convenient for Roosevelt to paint the picture of a naked, unprovoked, sneak attack. This made the American people outraged and ready to enter World War II. Looking back, it begins to seem like our entry into war was occasioned by a lie.

Some Americans would insist that everything was wrong when the U.S. established the Federal Reserve, or the IRS, or departed from the gold standard, or had Prohibition, or started the war on drugs. Can you imagine that America actually had a time before those things? For example, America in the late 1800s was free of slavery, free of income tax, and had no complaint if you wanted to drink alcohol, grow hemp, or smoke pot. Compared to today, that seems like a lot of freedom!

There are some younger people who will take the attitude, "Who cares what happened before I was born? That's ancient history!" I think that some amount of that attitude at a young age is natural. For example, I was too young for the Vietnam War; even though I was playing with tinker toys, or learning to ride a bicycle, I did not feel connected to the Vietnam issue. It was the issue of others, not me (nor of the kids around me), and I didn't feel like I had a dog in that fight. My political awareness developed in the post-Vietnam (and post-Watergate) era.

So initially, I didn't feel connected to the assassination of JFK. The magnitude of the matter and its impact on America was something I learned through contact and conversation with adults -- those older than my age group. (My age group peers would have started similarly, as blank slates on the topic of JFK.)

So, when did everything begin to go wrong in, or with, America? --Some would argue that the American Republic had a flawed birth, because it began with slavery. But, times before the Civil War (the end of that century's slavery) are not within living memory. Anyone who takes up that issue is fighting the mooted issue of a different generation. The fight against slavery was won, and there was a civil rights movement in the 1960s which resulted in more victories for the progeny of former slaves. That suggests that America has gotten better. My question was, when did America get worse -- to a condition beyond SNAFU -- to that actually worse condition of FUBAR?

(Note. SNAFU abbreviates, "Situation Normal: All Fucked Up" and FUBAR abbreviates, "Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition.")

Well, in my own memory the transition from President Carter to Reagan (in 1981) was the matter of moving from SNAFU to FUBAR. But, I suspect that the adults were right, and that JFK's assassination in 1963 was connected to today's problems. To express what happened to JFK seems like conjecture, but I suspect that LBJ (Lyndon B. Johnson, the Vice President) had JFK bumped off, and was assisted by a young CIA guy named George H.W. Bush. Later in the 1970s, a Congressional panel was investigating the JFK assassination and--lo and behold--suddenly George H.W. Bush became the CIA Director, just in time to stonewall the investigation by the committee. So, the committee (the Warren Commission) never got to the bottom of the assassination and they put out a report that was as flawed and fanciful as the 9/11 Commission report.

I believe that America was handed fairy tales in the Warren Commission report, and I believe that America was handed fairy tales in the 9/11 Commission report. Today, it is perfectly acceptable to have a bumper sticker that says, "Pearl Harbor: Roosevelt Knew." Future historians, I expect, will be able to pin the Bush administration with foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks, so that someday, we will all believe the bumper stickers that say, "9/11: Bush Knew."

In fact, we can have a special offer to collect all three of the following bumper stickers: "JFK: Bush Knew," "Tiananmen Square: Bush Knew," and "9/11: Bush Knew."

America, we have a crime family in charge of this place. And, it has been part of a two-family duopoly dynasty with the Clinton crime family.

What is the crime family up to lately? --"Bailing out Wall Street." And, that literally means looting the public treasury in full open view. As looters of our nation, they are no longer bashful about looting. There is absolutely no way that the bailout makes sense. America includes the big boys, who are now flashing cash; and, America includes the little guy, who works on Main Street and will pick up the tab for this bailout through paying taxes. To the little guy, the bailout is twice wrong: First, because a "Main Street" balance sheet does not include any derivatives, credit default swaps (CDS') or CDO's. As for people who hold those assets -- whose problem is that? Derivatives are flatly not a concern to the normal, standard, routine operations of the little guy on Main Street. Your auto repair shop deposits dollars, not derivatives. The second way in which this bailout is wrong is that it comes at the expense of the little guy on Main Street. It's a direct grab for his wallet. Why should the little guy pick up corporate welfare for the Wall Street types who like to wield more money than God?

I firmly believe that big boys are supposed to be able to pull up their own socks, and tie their own shoes. If a private sector operation in the free market cannot meet its obligations, then principles of the free market say that it should be allowed to fail. In fact, the government shows a guilty demeanor to be bailing out business leaders whom in fact it should be prosecuting. The absence of prosecutions is very telling. It is somewhat like the days immediately after 9/11. (Were I the president, heads would have rolled! In my first move, I may have fired the Secretary of Defense and the National Security Advisor, because -- what kind of defense was that? What kind of national security is this? When things are going wrong, perpetrators should be identified, caught, and brought to justice.) This administration fired nobody in the wake of 9/11, and the general in charge of air defenses -- far from going on trial -- was promoted!

Similarly, prosecutions of Wall Street CEOs are well indicated by present circumstances. In conclusion, I denounce and condemn this Wall Street bailout, and I am also taking this occasion to make a provisional and contingent endorsement of Cindy Sheehan for Congress. If Nancy Pelosi is "in on" promulgating this bailout, then Sheehan has my endorsement in her candidacy and campaign to unseat Nancy Pelosi in California's 8th district (San Francisco).

That's because

"Mainstream news rarely says anything negative against the legacy of former presidents. As if they are all heroes."

We know how many presidents were Masons or in Masonic societies. The Masons write the history books; so that's the way to get into the history books. When we learn history, we are learning the Masonic version of history, and they always exalt their own. Make them sound wonderful. Attribute all kinds of great deeds to them. Bury the bad stuff (which is much closer to reality).

Interview with Cindy Sheehan

"Some kind of populist uprising needs to happen"
Anti-war activist challenges Nancy Pelosi, Democratic House Speaker, for US Congress
WHEN CINDY Sheehan's son, Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq in 2004, she quickly became one of the country's most high-profile anti-war activists. Sheehan camped out near George Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, demanding an explanation for her son's death.
Now, the 51-year-old mother of three is running for Congress against Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as an independent anti-war, pro-worker challenger, although not a socialist. Justice, the paper of Socialist Alternative (the Socialist party's US counterpart), spoke to Cindy in her San Francisco campaign office, just days after her supporters turned in over 20,000 signatures to qualify her for the ballot.
Many anti-war activists have focused a lot of time and energy on electing Democratic Party candidates in the hope that they will challenge Bush's policies. Why did you decide to take a different path and run as an independent?

CS The Democratic Party is not a vehicle for getting us out of Iraq. Since the Democrats have taken over Congress in January of 2007 the situation has gotten far worse and they've appropriated billions of dollars to continue to fund the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. They've always said "redeploy", they've never said "withdraw". Now they are redeploying troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The Democratic Party has been responsible for many of the major wars in our history.

Vietnam is one that comes right to mind. The first five years were waged under a Johnson presidency. The two party system inherently is a pro-war machine. The Pentagon and the military are very well funded, while programmes to help people in communities, families, and the people out in the streets in front of my office are cut.
How has the Democratic Party leadership responded to your campaign?

CS A few of my friends who are very progressive Democratic activists have been warned by the party that if they're caught helping my campaign they will be banished from the party.

Nancy Pelosi's office just said she welcomes the challenge and has the highest amount of respect for me. But she's been giving most of her money to other contests. I think she arrogantly thinks she is entitled to this seat and doesn't have to come to San Francisco and campaign. I believe she has to come here and answer to her record and give me and the Republican and Libertarian candidates a chance to publicly express our platforms and our ideologies.
Let's talk about the presidential race. Do you think Barack Obama will end the war in Iraq if he is elected president? Should anti-war activists support him?

CS He has not said he will end the war in Iraq. He has the same exact position as the Bush administration: when conditions on the ground allow it, we are going to redeploy troops and put them in Afghanistan.

Many of my friends and people I respect greatly are saying it doesn't matter if Obama appears to be selling out now. We hope that his actions won't match his rhetoric because he just has to sell out to get elected. But there's never been any evidence of that happening.

When you look at polls, every poll shows McCain and Obama in virtually a tie. McCain is a doddering old fool. What does Obama do? Instead of standing up and saying all of the Republican positions are wrong, we want no offshore drilling, we're going to bring the troops out of Afghanistan, I'm against the death penalty and completely 100% for a woman's right of choice over her own body... he moves closer to the Republican position.

If they showed more daylight between their position and the Republican position, Obama would be at least 20 points ahead of McCain now.

If you want to support someone who wants to increase military spending, who wants to drill offshore, and who is not for universal healthcare, vote for McCain or Obama. But if you are truly a progressive and you want to see this country go in a different direction, you need to support and send your money to either Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader.
The mainstream media usually portrays you as a one-issue candidate. But you're also talking about creating a national healthcare system, supporting immigrants' rights, and repealing free trade agreements...

CS I support single-payer healthcare. I don't want health insurance companies involved. The Democratic leadership will say they are for universal healthcare but they want to require every American to buy healthcare and that money goes to their donors, the health insurance companies.

I believe in private delivery of healthcare but being paid by the government. Decisions should be made by patients and their doctors, not HMOs. [Health Maintenance Organisations, a form of health care coverage in the USA -Eds.]
You also propose nationalising the oil, gas, and energy companies.

CS They're our resources and they belong to the people not to companies. The oil companies in our country get so many advantages-we wage wars for them, our children are killed for them, the geopolitical system all rests on these immoral profiteers. We are never going to have an energy policy that gives priority to wind, solar, geothermal or any other kind of clean renewable energy while the oil companies pull the strings of our politicians.

The energy bill that Nancy Pelosi is so proud of sets miles per gallon standards to 35 by 2019; that's way too little, too late. We have to eliminate America's dependence on fossil fuels, not just reduce it but eliminate it.
That begs an obvious question: if the profit motive has meant disaster for the majority of Americans when it comes to healthcare and energy, isn't that true for the rest of society as well?
Can we ever have an equitable society that supports human development under capitalism?

CS I think one of the main problems with our society happened back in 1886 when corporations were given the same 14th amendment protection as citizens. Our corporations get more from the federal government than people do. It's capitalism in profits but socialism in bailouts.

I've travelled around the world and been in capitalist countries that have socialised medicine and education and see that those systems work very well.

I think the crux of our problem here in America is the utter devotion that we have to the military-industrial complex.

We need to repeal free trade agreements, repeal the Taft-Hartley Act [Anti-trade union law passed in 1947], drastically cut the money spent on the military-industrial complex, we need children to get affordable education, we need jobs programmes, and we need to have apprenticeship programmes that come with a strong union.
Yours is the latest of several high-profile campaigns by Greens and independents like Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney, and Matt Gonzalez, who ran for San Francisco mayor in 2003. They've all endorsed you. What about joining forces to build a new political party, one that would unite the anti-war movement and other working people and be free from corporate influence?

CS That's definitely my vision. No matter what happens in November, win or lose, I have an excellent relationship with the Nader-Gonzalez campaign and the McKinney-Clemente campaign. Both of them have an enormous amount of integrity, and they're my role models of how one can do this and maintain one's integrity. One day I was having a conversation with Matt Gonzalez and he said Cindy, once you sell out that's it, it's so much easier to do it the next time and the next time. So every day I guard against that.

'Independent' is the fastest-growing voter registration everywhere. My vision would be to unite these campaigns, all these disaffected Democrats and Republicans, and have somewhere for these people to channel their energies into. Some kind of populist uprising needs to happen and if there's ever a time that we can do it, it's now, when people are realizing that the abuses of the last eight years don't belong just to one party and don't just belong to the last eight years.

"I would rather vote for the Peace Mom than a hockey mom"

Today, Cindy received a very prestigious award in Norway: The Eric Bye Memorial Award for a person who has dedicated his/her life to positive change and standing up to the establishment. A very appropriate award for Cindy!

Erik Bye is an icon in Norway. He was a journalist, poet, filmmaker, singer and songwriter. Eric was very adamantly against the invasion of Iraq. He passed away in 2004 and before his wife, Tove, ( a political activist in her own right) passed away last year, she said her fondest wish was that Cindy receive the award. The award has been given since 2004 and Cindy was the first non-Norwegian to receive it.

Anne Bye presented Cindy with the award and said that everyday her mother would ask her: "What is Cindy doing today?" The photo is Cindy with Anne Bye and her daughter (Erik's granddaughter who sang his most famous song at the ceremony), Marianne.

Dagmar Karin Soboe , a past vice president of Womens International League of Peace and Freedom, said in her speech that she would rather "Vote for a Peace Mom, than a hockey mom."

Cindy has had the privilege of traveling around the world since her son, Casey, was killed in Iraq and she understands better than many people that true international peace will only be attained when the citizens of each country make a concerted effort to understand each other; their different cultures; their different religious practices, etc, but also, more importantly, the things that we have in common. Every person in this world wants the same things for themselves and their families: security, relative prosperity, and an environment that is sustainable and clean.

The jingoistic mantra of "My country is the greatest country on earth" can only be understood from the perspective of someone who has visitied enough countries to compare and contrast. Norway is by no means a perfect nation, but every citizen has the right to free quality national health care and free quality education. These things are just an example of two of the improvements that Cindy wants to make for San Francisco and the nation.

In San Francisco, we have the opportunity to "Vote for the Peace Mom," and show the international community that we understand the challenges facing our planet today.

A vote for Cindy is a vote for peace.

A vote for Cindy is a vote for the people.

A vote for Cindy is a vote for our planet.

A vote for Nancy is a vote for continued war.

A vote for Nancy is a vote for the wealthy establishment.

A vote for Nancy is a vote for offshore drilling and continued dependence on fossil fuels.

Reflections on 9-11 by Cindy Sheehan

Reflections on 9-11 by Cindy Sheehan

The 7th anniversary of September 11, 2001 is approaching and it seems like a good time to reflect on what our nation has lost since that tragic day and what we can do to go forward.

I do not think that anyone alive on that day will forget the shock that struck our nation when the symbols of US capitalism and militarism were struck out of the clear blue sky. I was in panic mode for a few days, because I did not hear from Casey who was stationed at Ft. Hood on that day and his base went into lock-down and he was too busy to call. Even though we mourn with our fellow Americans, the loss of over 3000 innocent people and the pain their families have had to deal with, the attacks of 9-11 have touched every American.

There are several ways to look at 9-11:

• 9-11 was planned and executed by the US government.
• BushCo did not plan 9-11, but they knew it was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it and, in fact, may have allowed it to
happen.
• 9-11 was planned and executed by a group of 17 terrorists (14 of them from Saudi Arabia) without the fore knowledge of the US
government and we were attacked because the terrorists "hated our freedoms and democracy."

Whichever of the theories is true, one thing is for sure: the Bush regime's response to 9-11 was woefully inept and criminal and many people have been killed, wounded, displaced or destroyed because of the Bush regimes' exploitation of the tragedy to use ultra-violence against the innocent people of two nations in response to a criminal act perpetrated by a few. Watching the recent RNC was a reminder of 9-11 hysteria used to justify implementing the Project for a New American Century and excusing BushCo for the crimes they have committed on the non-existent graves of our brothers and sisters who perished that day and whose remains were never recovered.

Instead of taking a hard and critical look at the corporate-imperialistic policies of our government and trying to objectively figure out why we were attacked, we set off on a nationalistic flag waving fervor of mass fear that was only to be cured by shopping, traveling and allowing George and Dick to make a demented response to it. After 9-11 our country lost a real opportunity to search our souls and make amends to the world for our greed and violence. An apt response would have been to punish the perpetrators of the crime in a court of law and not by rabidly seeking the first country to destroy. Attacking Afghanistan was like bombing Sicily to oblivion for the crimes of the Mafia. Attacking Iraq was just for neocon kicks.

George Bush was handed a Presidential Daily Briefing in Crawford, Texas on August 6th, 2001, that read: "Osama bin Laden determined to strike in the United States." According to journalist Ron Susskind, Bush told the agent who delivered the message: "Okay, you've covered your ass." Instead, our collective asses are twisting in the wind of the abuses and excesses of the last 7 years.

Our economy is being destroyed by 7 years of seemingly endless occupations that have made Dick and his cronies wealthy, but have harmed the rest of us. The price of gas has almost tripled since 9-11, thus causing all other consumer goods to skyrocket. People are losing their jobs and homes because this war economy cannot be sustained with Monopoly money printed and devalued to cover our rising deficits. We have become the worlds' worst debtor nation and our treasury is trillions in debt.

Our famous "freedoms" that the terrorists "hated" have been eroded due to the PATRIOT ACT, the Military Commissions Act and the violent response to protest from our robo-clad police state. We can be guaranteed that any call, email or text message that we send or receive is being read and if we dare protest we will be pepper-sprayed, maced, tear gassed, tasered, or beaten with a Billy club by our employees: law enforcement; authorized by our other employees: government.

My opponent, Nancy Pelosi, has cooperated and collaborated with the Bush regime to allow torture and incarceration without due process and NSA spying on Americans without warrants. She opens her Gucci bag and doles out billions for his War OF Terror while sitting in her mansion, children and grandchildren out of harms way, while our country implodes and Iraq and Afghanistan burn. She has legitimized BushCo's crimes and refuses to hold them accountable for the destruction they have unleashed upon our world.

It's not only time for new leadership in our government, but it's time for a new 9-11 Commission that has subpoena power and is not facilitated by the crooks who either perpetrated the crime and/or collaborated with it. Government abuses cannot be credibly investigated by government commissions: A citizen's investigation that is independent from the federal government and where people like George and Dick will actually have to give their testimony in the light of day, under oath and not holding hands, must be empowered and empanelled.

If you agree with me that a new 9-11 investigation is warranted, please contribute to my campaign to unseat Vichy-Pelosi who would never agree to investigate her buddy Bush for any crimes, much less the crime of our new century.

But most importantly, Cindy for Congress sends our deepest condolences to those who lost family member on 9-11 and anyone else on this planet who have lost their jobs, homes, or lives due to George's tragic response to the tragedy of 9-11.

My son is one of the ones whose life was ended prematurely. I mourn deeply for him each day, but the way forward is towards healing, peace, accountability, environmental sustainability, and economic equality and away from the violence and greed that has colored every aspect of our lives since that sad day.

An essay by Cynthia McKinney

Seize the Time!
An essay by Cynthia McKinney
September 19, 2008

We the people must now seize the time! We have always had the capability of determining our own destiny, but for various reasons, the people failed to elect the leaders who provided the correct political will. There was always some corporate or private special interest that stood in the way of the public good. And they always seemed to have the power of the purse to throw around and influence public opinion or our elected officials. The very foundation of the U.S. economy is crumbling underneath our feet. This represents a unique moment in U.S.
history and we must now seize the time for self-determination--for health care, education, ecological wisdom, justice, and all the policies that will make a difference in the lives of the people including an end to all wars, including the drug war!

The crisis was staved off for a time for some of our major finance engines when they were able to obtain bridge funding from certain sovereign wealth funds. That option grows increasingly dim as The Federal Reserve is becoming the lender of last resort. This means that the people are becoming the owners of the primary instruments of U.S. capital and finance. This now means that the people have a say in how these instruments are to be used and what their priorities ought to be. The people should now have more say in how their tax dollars are spent and what the priorities of government and the public sector must be. We the people must now set our demands to ensure and promote the public good.

Now, as we ponder the importance of this moment to do good and serve the needs of the people, some politicians have already figured out their answer for us: win or steal the next election, prepare for more war, and leave it to others to try and figure out what to do next. While banks are failing all around us and the U.S. taxpayer is drenched with news of billion-dollar bailouts for *selected* companies, the Congress, which has utterly failed in its twin responsibilities of setting policy and Executive Branch oversight, plans to adjourn instead of setting new policies; lessening the impact of the economic freefall on innocent victims; or stopping war, expansion of war, new war, and occupation.

In a dizzying turn of recent events, we have all witnessed the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage providers, investment banks Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns, and insurer American International Group (AIG), and other companies. So far, at least eleven banks have filed for bankruptcy this year. The case of the AIG bailout is particularly curious as Merrill Lynch was denied taxpayer largesse. I wonder if AIG was the selected company for bailout because of its relationship to the U.S. intelligence community and what others would discover if AIG's books were opened in an audit. The last person to get close to AIG and its shady operations was Eliott Spitzer.

But some more fundamental issues must be explored here, relating to the underlying assumptions that have guided U.S. political and economic activity, particularly over the last eight years.

The Bush Administration's "anything goes, just don't get caught" attitude has set the tone for what we are witnessing today. To be sure these problems didn't start in January of 2001, but they sure were allowed to accelerate during the George W. Bush Administration. For example, what tone was set when the Administration shipped $12 billion to Paul Bremer's provisional government in Iraq in cash on wooden pallets for Iraq reconstruction? No wonder $9 billion of it was "lost." What I'm constantly reminded of is that the money didn't just vanish, somebody got it.
Now it's up to us to find out who!

However, the Administration's blatant disregard for good governance, the rule of law, standards of moral and ethical conduct, and even etiquette, when coupled with a laissez-faire, "go-along-to-get-along" attitude from Congress meant that no holes were barred and no hands were on the deck--a sure prescription for disaster.

In my reading over the course of the last few years, I had to become somewhat conversant with the language of the new economy: bundled mortgages, securitization, SPEs, SIVs, derivatives. But in addition to the old concepts that always seemed to be with us--predatory lending, redlining, no affordable housing amid "the housing bubble,"-- it soon became clear that basically folks had figured out a way to make money off of a ticking time bomb. Kind of like prisons for profit. And even though the Enron scandal was supposed to have cleaned up a lot of this, unfortunately, even Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regularly engaged in some of these practices and that's why you and I own them today. I believe it is true that the very foundations of the U.S. economy and conventional political behavior have been shaken. Now is not the time for business as usual.
And although this is by no ways exhaustive, here are a few things that I think the Democratic-led Congress could work on now instead of adjourning:

1.
enactment of a foreclosure moratorium now before the next phase of ARM interest rate increases take effect;
2.
elimination of all ARM mortgages and their renegotiation into 30- or 40-year loans;
3.
establishment of new mortgage lending practices to end predatory and discriminatory practices;
4.
establishment of criteria and construction goals for affordable housing;
5.
redefinition of credit and regulation of the credit industry so that discriminatory practices are completely eliminated;
6.
full funding for initiatives that eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in home ownership;
7. recognition of shelter as a right according to the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights to which the U.S. is a signatory so that no one sleeps on U.S.
streets;
8.
full funding of a fund designed to cushion the job loss and provide for retraining of those at the bottom of the income scale as the economy transitions;
9.
close all tax loopholes and repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the top 1% of income earners;
10. fairly tax corporations, denying federal subsidies to those who relocate jobs overseas repeal NAFTA.

And since the Congress plans to adjourn early and leave these problems to The Federal Reserve, The Federal Reserve should operate in the interests of the U.S. taxpayer and not the interests of the private, international bankers that it currently represents. This, of course means that The Federal Reserve, too, must undergo a fundamental ownership and mission change.

This crisis does not have to be treated as merely a "market correction," or the result of a few rotten apples in an otherwise pristine barrel. This crisis truly represents the opportunity to introduce fundamental changes in the way the U.S. economy and its political stewards operate. Responsible political leadership demands that the pain and suffering being experienced by the innocent today not be revisited upon them or the next generation tomorrow. But sadly, instead of affirmative action being taken in this direction, the Bush Administration ratchets up the drumbeat for war, Republican Party operatives busily remove duly-registered voters from the voter rolls, and our elected leaders in the Congress go home to campaign while leaving all of us to fend for ourselves. For the Administration and the Democrat-led Congress, I declare: MISSION UNACCOMPLISHED.
For the public whose moment this is, I say: Power to the People!

Mondale and Me (More FISA Revelations)
Cindy Sheehan

I was flying back to the states from Kristiansand, Norway, after receiving an award and was flying on the leg from Oslo to London. The flight's purser pointed out one of my "countrymen" sitting in 2D. I had already been recognized on the flight by the crew because I had won the award and been on Norwegian TV. The purser pointed to seat 2D and told me that it was Walter Mondale.

I looked and did a double take, because he did not look so much like Mondale from about 10 feet away. I was eventually convinced that it was Walter Mondale (Former Senator from Minnesota; Jimmy Carter's VP, Democratic presidential Candidate in 1984 and Ambassador to Japan during the Clinton administration). So being the shrinking violet that I am, I immediately went to introduce myself.

After we established who I was and that he supported "Nancy" even though I was a "wonderful person," he looked at me and said: "Boy wasn't the FISA thing awful?" I said, "Yes, it's awful and my opponent supported it." He returned with: "Oh, I don't think she was really for it." My last question went unanswered: "Well if she was against it, why would she allow it to go to a vote, as Speaker, and then vote for it, as a member?" Note: On many controversial votes, Pelosi often does not vote, on the FISA Act she voted the wrong way.

Our chat was then over because he said: "Nice to meet you, good luck with everything," and looked back down at the paperwork he was reading. I had been dismissed for asking a question that has no reasonable answer. Nancy allowed the Act to come to a vote and voted for it, against the wishes of our liberal district, because SHE WAS FOR RETROACTIVE IMMUNITY. Not only are telecoms some of Pelosi's biggest donors, she has been in on the illegal wiretapping crimes from the beginning. As a member of the Democratic minority leaderhip's "Gang of Four" with Jane Harman (D-CA), Steny Hoyer, (D-MD), Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), not only was the gang briefed on Bush's FISA felonies, they were also briefed on torture. There was and is a rightful outcry on the FISA abuses (if the crimes weren't retroactively legalized, the penalites for breaking FISA laws are steep), but to me, torture is a crime against humanity and, in my opinion, that issue, and lying to a nation about going to war and funding war, are the ones on which the Gang of Four and the Bush Crime Mob should be held accountable.

Ever wonder why "impeachment" has always been inexplicably "off" of Pelosi's table?" Ever wonder why the most criminal and corrupt administration, in this country's long and checkered history that is liberally peppered with corruption and violence, is going to walk away and be allowed to live the rest of their lives in relative comfort and ease? Ever wonder why Pelosi's Congress has an approval rating under double digits? It's because the twin parties of corruption are the "Lawmakers" and the "Lawbreakers." How can Mondale credibly say that Pelosi did not "support" the legislation when she voted "Yea?" Did he mean that it is common for one to sell out his/her constituents and his/her principles when money and crime and punishment are involved?

Walter Mondale (a man whom I voted for three times) has been a political insider for generations and would not even broach the subject of accountability with me. Ever wonder why the system was allowed to decay so far that it appears that only a miracle can save it now from total socio-economic destruction?

This nation is in dire straits partially because of blind allegiance to a two-party monopoly (I used to say "duopoly," but what's the use?) that only exists to perpetuate itself and the unscrupulous system that supports it. That system built of popsicle sticks and set on a shaky foundation will soon go the way of all Empires unless our "leadership" becomes more responsive to the people's needs and less concerned with their bank accounts and personal power trips.

"Change" will not come from inside the monopoly. How much more proof do we need?

Vote for true change.

Vote for Cindy.

Cindy for Congress

Today, in the New York Times there was an op-ed written by the editorial board imploring Nancy Pelosi to schedule a vote on contempt charges for Bush's Brain, Karl Rove. Karl Rove ignored a subpoena to testify before the House Judiciary Committee this summer and Cindy for Congress is in total agreement with the NYT: Rove must be held in official contempt as he is held in unofficial contempt all over the world. Instead of appearing on Fox News, as a political contributor, he should be appearing in Federal Court. Karl Rove can be the domino that knocks the rest of the crooked administration over.

There are a wide range of issues that CFC believes need to be addressed before Congress can even begin to think about recessing. George Bush is attacking Pakistan and rattling his deranged saber towards Iran and Russia and the illegal and immoral occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan continue.

Instead of confronting our energy crisis head on by working for complete fossil fuel independence, Pelosi is caving into the oil companies, Republicans and pandering to Blue Dog Democrats and the lowest denominator in the country by scheduling a vote on "Off-shore drilling" that would not only be disastrous for our already fragile ecology, but would have no affect on high gas prices at the pump.

Our economy is in frightening free-fall and when Congress-members go home, George Bush and his crony-capitalist friends will have free-reign to dig this country even deeper into an economic quagmire that no amount of "hope" will ever be able to fix. Our brothers and sisters are losing their jobs and homes at record rates. CFC believes that foreclosure moratoriums and jobs programs that pay living wages are just two things Congress must do immediately to help the working-poor class instead of continuing to use tax-payer dollars to bail out our nation's parasite-class.

George Bush is the lamest of lame ducks, but he has over four months left to wreak complete havoc on the world. Pelosi has just a few weeks to stop acting like a collaborator with the Bush Mob and she must reset her table to hold the George Bush administration accountable. As the Times noted: It is an issue of paramount national interest.
