NYT Headline: President Paul of Michigan

DIGG this here: http://digg.com/political_opinion/Op_Ed_NYTimes_President_Paul_of_Michigan
Regardless of who gets to sit in the nice leather chair in the Oval Office, Dr. Ron Paul is my President. And given recent events, I think there'll soon be many more who share my sentiment.
Here's an excerpt from the 9/20/08 NY Times article, entitled, President Paul of Michigan:
On my way out of town, I drove around most of Howell. Every second or third house was flying an American flag, but I found only one lawn with a (crumpled) McCain sign. Miraculously, the owners of one car and one house proclaimed their support for Barack Obama, and one bumper sticker still said “Hillary.”
The person who’s racking up the votes is Ron Paul. The residents sport Ron Paul signs on their lawns. They’ve painted Ron Paul in big letters on their cars. They’ve hung Ron Paul signs in the windows of their businesses (including Mama Gaia’s, which specializes in “living, parenting and healing naturally”).

this has reinspired me to
this has reinspired me to write in ron paul
hes talked against doing so as its worthless and wont even be counted. but i cant bring myself to vote for any of the other 6 candidates on the CA ballot. I cannot disappoint my brothers and sisters in michigan or any other state with a compromised vote for someone else i dont believe in.
Vote YOUR conscience
First, please take 1:28 of your time and view this.
Now...it occurs to me...
(NOTE: this is just an example. Fill in with your own analogy as you wish.)
...let's say you're a faith seeker, you happen to be in China, and you're seriously considering the Christian faith. It just so happens that this particular faith speaks to your heart as Truth.
You look around: Christianity is not encouraged here. It is not supported here. It can, in fact, be a cause of imprisonment or death or worse here. Most everyone else here subscribes to another religion, and they will all tell you that their religion is The One to follow.
Does that make your choice wrong?
Now: translate that idea into voting for Ron Paul here at home in the good ol' U.S. of A.
The defense rests.
Secession
Will Michigan secede from the Union and vote Ron Paul in as there President? If so I will be a resident of the Republic of Michigan in time for the inaugural speech.

Write in Ron Paul
Went to play poker at a casino today (dollars aren't worth much anyway) and I was sitting at a table with an enlisted marine who said he (like I) was still gonna vote for Ron Paul. I shook his hand and thanked him for his support. No matter how much lipstick the Republicans want to put on the war in Iraq, nothing says what's really going on like $$. The military is offering a $60k reenlistment bonus for infantry.
Thanks for the article fanofwalt! I will go digg it now!
I still have my Ron Paul bumper sticker on my car, but I can't BELIEVE my neighbors who are (were) Ron Paul supporters now have a McCain/Palin sign in their yard!! AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!! Where HAVE we failed them??? :-(

It's okay
Not everyone is at the same stage of their education as you are.
Someone less in the know might see McCain as maybe 1% better than Obama, and that might be enough for them.
They may be McCain supporters only with the hope that McCain kicks the bucket. That's how most "conservatives" are, now that Palin is on the McCrap ticket. Many hope he'll fall off the stage on 1/20/09 and that she'll be sworn in as president.
I know some very good people, diehard Ron Paul supporters, who feel like they should vote for McCain, and I would never question their devotion to Ron. They just see things slightly differently.

I guess it is because they are 'good' Republicans since that is
the way they always vote! But I still can't believe they'd have a sign for him in their yard! I guess they are just not that internet savvy as they are an older couple -- they think third party candidates have no chance as usual...but I STILL cannot see voting for someone who thinks 100 years of war is ok even if he were to keel over tomorrow!! :-(

I agree with you entirely
My own mother is on the fence. Her car still has RP stickers and her sign is in the yard still. But she is torn between voting third party or the glimmer of hope that maybe McCrap is even just 1% better than Obomba.
I don't agree with that way of thinking, and it is not in any way rational, but I understand why some people think that way.

I teared up
when I read about the support for our good Doc.
My signs are still up, my bumper stickers are still on, and in fact I'm getting ready to apply a new "Don't blame me I voted for Ron Paul" sticker tomorrow.
I love that so many people are catching on. Better late than never.

Write in Ron Paul!
I just ordered mine today, bumper stickers from Cafepress, can't wait till they come.
Ride the tide
There's a large swell picking up out there, and we've got our Ron Paul boogie boards ready to ride! Take a look at this thread over here for ideas on leveraging the current new and renewed interest in the good doctor!
I dugg it.
I dugg it.
my sign is still up!
on my truck, I mean I got my Ron Paul bumper sticker still on there, got another one still on the peel, ready to slap on something else, not sure what yet.
Yea, here in Bradenton, FL I still see Ron Paul signs on peoples homes, on trucks, etc. And a good buddy of mine just went to Montana on Vacation and he said he passed a building that had a huge "Ron Paul Revolution" mural on it, he couldn't take a pic though cause he was driving he said.

We large format printing guys
Are ALL Ron Paul supporters.
This is a very deceptive article designed to play to both crowds
This article will be interesting and seem positive to Ron Paul supporters, yet in the minds of those who don't already support Ron Paul, it will reinforce the idea that Paul supporters are right-wing "kooks."
This is high-level mainstream deception.
Ron Paul's Convention Speech
Ron Paul's Convention Speech
"Freedom brings people together." - Ron Paul
I'm not sure about this one.
Michigan is probably the most poverty stricken state right? Normally Democrat territory?
"As for me and my home. We will read Peter Schiff."
"Armed robber him need gun. Authority man him need pen.
Authority man in charge of money. Him no need gun, him need pen. Pen got power gun no get. If gun steal eighty thousand naira. Pen go steal two billion naira." - Fela Kuti
Be that as it may
You may be right about that, but, be that as it may, there's one startling fact about this article's author, and Glen Beck, and other people of the anti-RP ilk:
Even those who claim to disagree with or dislike Dr. Paul are publicly admitting that Ron Paul is right on the money (ha!) about the financial crisis.
If even his detractors are lauding him -- well, that speaks volumes, in my book!
Agreed that it might be a sophisticated hit piece
I've been happy to see Dr Paul on many news channels lately, commenting on the financial crisis, bailouts, the Fed, etc. Maybe this is a "reply" of sorts.
A close black friend had two reactions, one of them positive: She thought it spoke highly of Dr Paul's popularity.
But she's not eager to visit Howell, noting that 10 years is way to short a time to assume that Klan influence is gone. Even mentioning the Klan in an an article about a town where Dr Paul is popular will turn off some people. Maybe many, given the slew of bad publicity that followed his newsletter controversy.
I sent it to other friends & will post here if anything interesting comes up from them.
I'm sorry you see it that way
You know in my opinion we have no one to vote for that can address this countries needs right now other than Ron Paul and in my opinion if people want to have peace of mind in this troubled time we are in here and they want to vote for a man that truly loves this country and will stand behind everything it used to be then so be it! More power to the people that see things the way they should be. I believe that with all the attention the Dr. has been getting and all the things he has said in the past are now here people see him for what he is and want him to run this country. More and more will see as time goes on watch and see. These that are now in this so called race if that’s what you call it are only out to fill their pockets they don't give a damn about this country or any of us. So you go on thinking this is "This is high-level mainstream deception." This is reality my friend!
I never took down my "Ron
I never took down my "Ron Paul for President" yard sign.
I wish I had a Campaign For Liberty yard sign...

Sean57: Why Wait?
I didn't. You don't have to, either.
Right now, Vista Print is having a sale. Their yard signs are 33% off, and their car door magnets are 35% off!
Using one of their standard "patriotic/political" design templates, I created C4L door magnets and business cards. I got in on their "valued customer" sale (which ended last week), and got four C4L car door magnets for $20, plus 500 C4L business cards to pass out for $3.99!!
It's the unspoken motto of the r3volution (and, frankly, any other endeavor): if you wait around for someone else to do it, it may not get done, or at least not within your personal timeframe. If you want to make sure it happens, lead the charge and do it yourself! :)
Hey now.
If you need graphics, you e-mail me. I make you nice deal. www.hideyourride.com All R3volution designs are provided with love at very low prices. Plus, you can just tell me an idea and I'll make it snappy.
Did you see the funny money www.hideyourride.com/revolt ?

Yes, I actually just looked at your funny money. That phrase, "just paper," should be on our FRNs. Only with a warning label about the paper's actual toxicity.
Have you seen this? Or this?

I still have my Ron Paul yard sign up too.
Our two vechicles have Ron Paul Hope for America bumper stickers...I have two bumper stickers on my vechicle:)
We want a Campaign for Liberty yard sign to hang outside the business, which is at a major corner.
gigione
The signs are up all over the place
here in Idaho. I drove down a street the other day and every pole had a Ron Paul sign on it! I just smiled as I drove! It was the coolest thing I ever seen! And yes we still have ours up also.
There's a busy intersection
There's a busy intersection in a nearby town where a Ron Paul sign still stands. It's a bit weathered and leaning, but not a single person has taken it down. I've yet to see a McCain or Obama yard sign anywhere.
Bumper Sticker
Iv'e got 2 bumper stickers on my car:
Ron Paul for President 2008
Ron Paul R3volution
I love them both and they will always remain on the car forever as a witness!
I'm still hangin' signs too!

where
is your "Abolish The Federal Reserve" sticker? Do you know how many people have no idea what that means?
My Ron Paul sign is
My heart belongs to Ron Paul, but for now my ass belongs to Chuck Baldwin, www.baldwin08.com
still in my yard. I kind of never want to take it down.
Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine
The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!
My RP sign will stay up for eternity if I have any say about it
Mine will stay up as long as it physically remains viable (winter is on the way, and it may begin to get weathered soon).

Nice !
No one can make Dr Paul go away, I love it :-) These people who still have signs up in their businesses, homes, cars etc are so cool, that's real support and dedication. We are a unwavering bunch :-)

2010, we put our people in Congress
2012, we want our country back
Keep those cards 'n' letters coming, folks!
Today, my family took a much-needed break and drove out to enjoy a day at the beach. On our way back, we got a little turned around, and ended up accidentally entering a military base -- twice, in fact, at two completely separate entrance points (it's a large base!).
Each time we came through to ask, er, how to get out of the base, we received cordial directions from the officers on duty...and noticed that other military members staffed at the gates pointed at my Jeep's "Ron Paul for President" signs and started talking with each other. Neither time could I hear their conversations, other than, "Hey, look, Ron Paul...", but I saw them nodding at they viewed the Magic Magnets, and no signs of displeasure crossed their faces.
Yes, that happened at each gate. Say, maybe I should drive through the military base more often!
People's ears are perking up all over, kids. You can't hardly swing a dead cat without finding Ron Paul referenced in the media. Now is an EXCELLENT time to reload and FIRE.
And thanks, riverrun, for adding in the date of the article!

Entitled President Paul of Michigan
Will be read by millions. Unfortunately it doesn't mention anything about Ron Paul other than the fact that many of his supporters still exist in the hinterlands with their yard signs and bumperstickers. No idea what it is about Ron Paul that so many find so appealing.
Perhaps a letter to the editor will follow with something of substance in it.
Anyone here volunteer to write a letter to the editor?
You know if the million plus who voted for Ron Paul would spontaneously revolt that might get some attention. I understand that on Bastille Day in France in 1793 or so, the people dragged the printing presses out into the streets and destroyed them. Andrew Dickson White wrote a book entitled Fiat Money Inflation in France about that hyperinflation. He is also the author of The History of the Warfare Between Science and Theology in Christiandom which is a must read for all believers of all faiths.
Maybe if we just show up in front of the Federal Reserve Building in Washington wearing the V for Vendetta uniform every so often in growing numbers until the media covers it. I saw nothing in the media about Bob Schulz who demonstrated in opposition to the bailout of AIG recently a few days ago. Nothing!
I have some yard work to do!
