Lets Order our OWN Polls !!!
---We have the money, the grassroots, the message....and the Candidate! So its time we knock that last leg that is held against us DOWN !!!
The MSM is Standing on just one leg now...... "The Polls say Dr Paul is well behind...blah, blah blah...."
Question: JUST WHO has been buying these polls?
Someone pays $$$ to Gallup and Zogby and USA TODAY...etc.
So it is time we stop letting other campaigns and news services ask the Poll questions......don't you think?
(GET CONTROL OF THE QUESTIONS: And Control the Answers)
So YES , it is time we hired Gallup, Zogby, and purchased our own Poll. The Campaign cannot do it....but we must do it.
As buyers of the poll, we have imput on what it asks and who it asks.
They will sit down with us and ask us, "What is it you wish to know?"
We would like to know how many Republicans there are that DID NOT vote for Bush in 2000 and 2004.
We wish to ask Republicans who did not vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004 some questions. We would like to know WHAT THEY THINK.
We wish to know how many people agree with each and every one of Ron Pauls posititions.
Then, we wish to know if they realize Who best matches their own positions.
Then we wish to know if they support Ron Paul.
We would like to know if they would support Ron Paul, IF THEY THOUGHT he could win.
We would like to see who they like better as Ron Paul's running mate: Pat Buchanan for example?
You see, I believe Polls are much like real estate appraisals,..... it matters a whole hell of a lot who orders it. I am sure the bank is not interested in seeing the appraisal you purchased, but rather will want to do their own appraisal.
In much the same way, WHY are we listening to the appraisal of what MSM or who ever is buying these polls? After all, Zogby and Gallup do not work for free.
Now, lets use Chip In or some way we can all pool our money and lets buy our own poll..... a few polls in fact.
Then, we can BLAST Mainstream Media back with OUR facts.
Time is of the essance. The Iowa GOP & Fox said clearly they are looking to polls.... and we need a few of our own.
Come on, who is with me? I need help here.... WHo is with me?

Polling
My thought is that no one is buying the polls. It is simply the msm being told what to print by the CFR. All numbers listed in the polls are fiction meant to develope and promote the CFR agenda.
then the cfr is buying the
then the cfr is buying the polls.
polls are crap because they can make you give the answer they want.
Google Frank luntz the king of polls, also ask your bud at pollster why they keep leaving paul off their crappy polls

I really
dislike stuff like this. Polls are not crap. They are imperfect and have their problems like anything else. My good friend is the guy who runs www.pollster.com and we talk about this all the time. Polls are not crap.

Mike
Ron Paul is my HERO!!!
"Would you support Ron Paul
"Would you support Ron Paul for president if he was the only candidate advocating an end to the Iraq War, a balanced budget, making social security solvent and cutting government bureaucracy?"
Maybe this would be a good question...
Good Question
You have the RIGHT idea... that is an excellent question.
Excellent bullseye strategy !
I think this is a great idea but I would suggest we just ask one simple question each week through all three major polls the MSM habitually reports.
That one question is :
"Who do you plan on voting for in the general election?
They either have to name a name or they can say undecided.
All the other crap is just doing what all the sleazebags do to get a result they want.
Let's just do it straight up and then we will stay on the high road. EVERY WEEK. It's the Ron Paul way to do it. Clean and simple.
I think hiring the major MSM reported pollsters is an EXCELLENT idea.
We can certainly afford it and it will be very powerful ammunition bullseye where it needs to be. Legal and organizational efforts need to begin. A website and an organization which can do it legally and above reproach according to all the campaign rules and regs etc. We can do this !
Consider this also...
When our Meetup group first started talking about this idea of phone polling, we thought the same thing as you mentioned. Just ask the one, simple question.
But someone else pointed out that it will probably take several calls before we even get to speak to a real, live person that is willing to take the poll. (A LOT of people screen out non-personal calls because all all the sales and junk-calling that goes on now - I know I do! And then there are those that just don't want to participate.)
So to make all the effort more worthwhile, let's at least try to get them thinking about Ron Paul if they aren't already.
I hate to say it, but there's a reason "the sleazebags do all the other crap" (to paraphrase you) - Because it is time-tested and proven to work.
But hey, that's just my 2 cents... Do it however you like, or maybe try it both ways and see what works better. Up to you!
we need a website to make
we need a website to make this happen. otherwise its just talk. i'm open to any ideas. i have a few.. maybe always have that one question and vote on a second question from a fresh list made by the participants of the effort. then most of the best questions would be represented at least once.
I do like the idea of not mentioning any candidate's name ever. that would be a pure poll and not a disingenuous attempt to gain name recognition. whatever. the important thing is to DO IT. like the original post says they are only standing on this one leg. we can knock it out from under them. but we cannot afford to allow them to discredit the poll and thereby justify ignoring the results.
we need a website as a place to discuss and organize the action. It won't be me I'm not talented or wealthy or experienced. sorry. but i'll be there to offer ideas and a bit of cash.
one more thing the poll must be from a totally random sample of the population. the pollsters cannot use any list.
so then no names of candidates mentioned and random sample i think these two points would keep us beyond the range of dismissal by the MSM

Mine for Paul folks - Don't try to convert...
I just wanted to throw my 2-cents in.
We were taught not to convert anyone... only use these polling questions to filter for possible Paul supporters. Then let them know what they can do. As far as getting into the CFR and such... to much convincing at that point. Not worth it, move on to the next call.
I do like the first part of the script and will look at another one that I have here to maybe blend somewhat.
A little, gentle push is OK
My original suggestion was apparently too aggressive for some folks. I'm an aggressive guy by nature - I just don't tolerate timidity when something this important (our freedom and liberty) is on the line.
I also realize that my opinions are not always shared by others. (We all know how that goes!) As I said, the script is a work in progress.
However, you also raised very reasonable points. Please read the recent comment from MikeK (below the original survey script suggestion) for his good and constructive suggestion on an alternative wording that is less-confrontational.
Check this out too!!!
not exactly polling but could go along way for name recognition too.

It would be ironical if we
It would be ironical if we hired someone like Frank to organize the question for us. Not Frank tho as we all have a few choice words for him *cough *cough.... I like this idea, however, it needs and requires its very own website and forum as these things are expensive to have done and requires a firm amount of independent talk and discussion to get arranged and funded. I'd be willing to set-up a forum for that purpose if need be.

Yes, Gallup, Zogby and all
Yes, Gallup, Zogby and all the others who do this and have respect.
They always look at "likely republican voters" which means the last one or two election cycles.
The question we have, is how many Republicans are there out there that DID NOT vote in the last two election cycles, yet still registered to vote.
Now think about it, they HEAR from MSN that Giuliani is it... They feel powerless and stay home.
Yet if we poll these people, and learn they make up 55% of the total Republican base, then we can WAKE them up to their POWER.
We can wake up MSN to WHO Ron Paul is tapping into. We can use these polls to say hey, NEW voters are comming out ... and we will need to target our marketing campaign of Ron Paul to these republican voters who have not voted in the last two election cycles and we can remind them they are the MAJORITY... Break the cycle.

Caveat Emptor
Make sure you get to approve the phone poll script before you pay $300 to Zogby... You might be financing a poll that says:
"Pick a candidate:
Rudolph Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
John McCain
Mitt Romney
Fred Thompson
...or "Other"
Sample script for Phone Poll
A nationally-recognized poll would be GREAT.
However, our local groups can also do some FREE LOCAL polling of our own. All it takes is a phone, a phone book (optionally cross-checked with a voter's list from the county clerk), and a few volunteers working from home or whereever.
I'm attaching a sample script that I'm working on for our local Meetup group to use... It still needs a little polishing and "fleshing out." But since this topic came up right now, I thought I'd share what I have so far...
SCRIPT:
"Hello, I'm [firstname], and I'm calling from [your city (or county)
name here]. I'm working with a local group to poll local voters about their choice in the upcoming Presidential Primary election on Feb. 5th, 2008. May I ask you a couple of quick questions, so your vote can be counted? It won't take much more than a minute of your time.
IF "NO" - "OK... Thanks anyway neighbor, sorry to have bothered you." (Hang up politely.)
IF "YES" - "Thank you very, very much. First Question:
"Yes or No... Did you vote in the last Presidential Primary election, held in Feb. 2004?" (Record answer below:)
IF "NO" - "OK, Which of the following best fits your reasons why you didn't choose to vote:"
"1 - Simply forgot to vote"
"2 - Dislike all of the candidates on the ballot"
"3 - Dislike voting in general"
"4 - Wasn't able to vote for unavoidable reason"
IF "YES" - "Good for you. Which party's ballot did you vote in? (In alphabetical order:)"
"1 - Constitution Party"
"2 - Democrat Party"
"3 - Libertarian Party"
"4 - Reform Party"
"5 - Republican Party"
"6 - Another Party not listed here"
IF "Democrat" - "Have you heard of Presidential Candidate Ron Paul?
...{continue script with reasons Democrats are supporting Ron Paul...)
IF "Libertarian" - "Have you heard of Presidential Candidate Ron Paul? He ran as the Libertarian candidate for President in 1988, and he is running for president again, but this time under the Republican party, because he learned that the current system is designed to exclude "so-called third party" candidates. ...{continue script with reasons libertarians are supporting Ron Paul...)
...(continue with similar scripts for other "3rd" parties)
IF "Republican" - "I'm going to say the names of all the current Republican presidential candidates, one after another... After each name, please tell me how much you feel you know about each candidate by responding either:
I know A LOT, A LITTLE, or NOT AT ALL about each one.
(In alphabetical order:)"
[Pollster instructions: Record "LOT" "LITTLE" or "NOT" after each name.]
Rudolph Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Duncan Hunter
Alan Keyes
John McCain
Ron Paul
Mitt Romney
Tom Tancredo
Fred Thompson
Based on what you know about each candidate right now, which candidate (or candidates) are you considering to vote for in this upcoming primary election?
IF "Ron Paul" - "Great choice! Say, did you know that there are
several Ron Paul supporter groups in the area? ...etc...
IF they choose any CFR-member candidates...
Republican CFR Candidates: Romney - Giuliani - McCain - Thompson
(Democrat CFR Candidates: Obama - Clinton - Edwards - Dodd - Richardson)
"Please answer YES or NO to the following: Are you aware that [name any CFR candidates they mentioned] is/are an influential member(s) of the Council on Foreign Relations, a powerful elitist organization that has publicly stated its goals of reducing American independence and to form what's being called "the NAU" or "North American Union" - which is basically an "European Union-style" regional government consisting of Mexico, the United States & Canada? YES or NO?"
IF "YES" - "Knowing this, why do you continue to support this/these candidate(s)?"
[Pollster: record their answer in brief, then continue with:]
"Thank you for your time participating in our poll... Good-bye."
IF "NO" - " U.S. Representative Dr. Ron Paul is the only candidate
that has publicly opposed the formation of the North American Union, as well as all other actions that would erode U.S. sovereignty and our right to govern ourselves. He is known as "The Taxpayers Best Friend" and - "The champion of the Constitution" - since he insists that the Federal government actually follow the laws as written, and reduce the size of the bureaucracy in Washington D.C.
Now that you know all of this, are you prepared to consider Ron Paul as a possible alternative presidential candidate?"
IF "NO" - "What are your reasons for disagreeing with the U.S. Constitution?
IF "YES" or "MAYBE" - (add encouragement here...)
ETC...
(As I said, this is just a suggestion of what you and your group can do. Modify it to suit your own tastes and to better serve your local area... For instance, it's a good idea to mention the actual primary/caucus DATE instead of just saying "upcoming primaries" as the sample shown above.)
In the poll process, remind all volunteers to always BE POLITE no matter what sort of pro-war hawk neo-con or socialist yahoo you happen to call. This is just an information gathering exercise (with the side benefit of softly pushing Ron Paul's name). Don't do or say anything to HURT the Ron Paul campaign. The Big Elitist MainStream Media has that job well in hand already! ;)
I think there is something
I think there is something psychological about putting a name FIRST.
Hence, in our poll, we would have Ron Paul first, the rest last.
"Please answer YES or NO to
The CFR question needs to be worded differently.
You need to change the format of this question. This question should not be off limits, but you have to ask it the right way. This should be more like: "If you knew that a candidate supported the development of a North American Union consisting of Mexico, Canada, and the United States similar to the European Union, with a common currency and no travel or employment restrictions between the countries would you vote for them?"
Do not use the following:
IF "YES" - "Knowing this, why do you continue to support this/these candidate(s)?"
This statement is combative and will not persuade anyone to join us. Most people will hang up or tell you to F__ off.
FINALLY! A constructive comment!
MikeK, you are so right. Thank You.
I get so frustrated with nay-sayers that just throw out a their negative opinions without thinking them through, and without offering a rational explanation or constructive alternative...
Dr. Paul cured my Apathy...
You may have just restored my faith in Dr. Paul's supporters, Mike.
No worries, glad I could
No worries, glad I could help.
I'm used to the nay-sayers who just throw out insults. I used to post on RedState. :)
Gads, don't ask about the CFR
We aren't worried about the democrats, just Republicans.
Don't worry about the trilateralist, CFR's or Bildebergers either.
Keep it simple and to the point.
Name recognition is what you are after
Most people don't even know who the CFR is.
But of course, if YOU don't like that part, don't use it. :)
And consider this: We're not "worried" about the Democrats and other non-Republicans... We just want them to know they have a better choice with Ron Paul. (It doesn't hurt to at least try to enlighten them, it's not like we're going to "lose" a Dem vote... We might just get them to start thinking about voting for the person, not the party.)
No, people know what the CFR is ...
but most of them don't care and are going to link Ron Paul's campaign with conspiracy theories, which is what your language implies.
PLEASE Don't identify yourself as part of the Ron Paul campaign
(I guess I didn't make this clear enough.)
PLEASE Don't identify yourself as part of the Ron Paul campaign!
You are NOT a member of the campaign staff, and you do NOT have the right to affiliate yourself as such, so DON'T.
This is something that I see people keep misunderstanding...
What we do, at the grassroots level, is NOT a part of the Ron Paul campaign. PLEASE Don't mislead people otherwise.
If you have concerns about this, when you call to identify yourself on the phone, make sure you say that you are NOT a representative of any candidate's official campaign.
Please remove the CFR part...
I would hang up at that point, and I imagine so would several people.
Why do you think the CFR is off-limits?
I'm not trying to be confrontational with that question... I really want to know.
Why do you think mentioning the CFR is off-limits? It's not like the CFR is some sort of "secret conspiracy organization" or anything. They have publicly stated their goals and intentions, and the American voter NEEDS to know about that.
For any real patriot, a candidate's membership in and/or support of the CFR should disqualify that person. (I'm not saying "call them CFR bastatds dirty traitors!" - Which they are, of course... But we don't need to go that far.) Just get people wondering what that "CFR-thingy is up to." If they ever bother to actually look the CFR up online, they'll know a lot more about what the real problems facing America from within truly are.
CFR needs to be off limits.
CFR needs to be off limits. Older Americans have no idea what it is, and they will immediately write you off as a lunatic if you go into this stuff.
People don't like being on the phone that long anyway with strangers ... especially someone discussing all this stuff. I would probably hang up myself, as well.
Frank Luntz has a book, lets not remake the wheel
As much as we think Mr. Luntz rigs polls, we can use their own tactics to create the poll needed to get a poll that isn't skewed in a certain direction.
I will see if I can find a copy in PDF format that gives some clue on how to ask the questions.
I have the book.
A very interesting read, worth buying it just to have it.
Don't buy it
Don't give a dime of your money to Frank Putz, after the way he has disrespected Ron Paul..
Check it out from the library... Pay for an Inter-Library Loan if your library doesn't have it, but just don't buy the damn thing.

Arggg...
I agree, it should be a "respected" poll (whatever the hell that means) Zogby, Gallup etc.
I'm soooooo tired of the MSM claiming Ron Paul an illegitimate candidate because of this sh#t.
How much could this really cost, they normally only call like 1000 people anyways.
BUUUUT I have a few questions:
#1: How can we assure we'll reach "likely voters"? If we ask people randomly, the more well known candidate would just win, in fact McCain albeit almost dead as of now, would poll much higher than the doctor. Or by past voters who maybe many have been disillusioned by their party (haven't voted for years), too young to vote (will definitely vote this time around), or people who were fooled into the fear-mongering of Bush but have since turned a leaf. etc etc
#2: How do we reach the powerful (at least for us) younger audience? When so many have no landlines or aren't bored enough to talk with a poller.
#3: How do we convince the media we haven't loaded the poll ourselves?
Bump?!
Nobody can take a stab at my questions?
Bout time we did our own polls
Bout time we did our own polls.
And don't bother hiding who's behind the poll when you publish the results. That will get out on it's own.
My suggestion is to be transparent and frank about the poll's origin. Try to make the emphasis on your polling methods and data integrity.
A few suggestions for questions
These are some questions that we used in a survey our meetup group conducted. It really gave us some insight into how people were thinking locally. We just tested issues not RP when we did the survey.
I am listing these here to start a brainstorming session for possible questions. I didn't want someone to have to totally reinvent the wheel.
From survey:
Next, I will make several statements. As I read each of them, I will ask you to rate them on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being Strongly Agree and 1 being Strongly Disagree. (Circle the appropriate number for each response.)
